Kylie’s POV
My heart smiled when I heard the whisper stir around the room, all of them were taken in awe by Elijah’s handsomeness. The man, however, was indifferent to the chatter going on around him as he was long used to it. He looked down at me and asked, “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I am fine.”
Lisa's eyes lit up when she saw Elijah. Who was this handsome man? How come she isn't familiar with him yet?
She immediately adjusted her composure and hugged Justin's arm, asking, "Babe, who is this?"
"This is Elijah Crawford, the captain of our football team."
"I see…" She cast a shy smile before addressing him, "Hi, my name is Lisa Wade, I am Kylie's sister. I hope we can be friends from now on." Lisa raised her glass to clink a toast with him. Even though her tone was friendly, the seductiveness in her eyes said otherwise.
Elijah didn't bat an eyelid at her, he ignored her existence as if she was a speck of dust, unworthy of his notice.
Lisa's hand was left hanging mid-air and her face flushed red with embarrassment. She took a quick look around to see people giggling at her, even I let out a chuckle when I saw her standing there like a fool. She quickly withdrew her hand and walked away, leaving the three of us alone.
Justin asked, "Elijah, why are you here?" The man shoved a hand inside his pocket while draping the other around my shoulders. Pulling me in a ginger hug, he said, “Accompanying my girlfriend. Congratulations on your new relationship, by the way.”
Disbelief clouded the couple’s face when they heard Elijah’s words, especially Justin who asked, “You two are dating? Since when?"
"Last night. We met at the bar." The man announced proudly.
Justin was not a fool, he knew what kind of person Elijah was and by the look on his face, I could say that he had a rough idea about what must have happened last night.
He couldn't stop the smile from disappearing from his face, "I think you said you don't believe in dating."
“Yeah but after I met Kylie, my perspective changed.” Elijah looked into my eyes as he said those words. I was surprised to see how well he was carrying this role, he was really good at it!
Justin turned his gaze at me, betrayal painted all over his features. He muttered, "I did not expect that you would move on so fast."
Elijah's phone rang and he had to leave to answer it; as soon as he left, Justin grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the banquet hall.
"Justin, what are you doing? Someone might see." I snapped at him as soon as he let me go. He looked at me and said, "I don't care about them but what the hell are you doing?"
"What do you mean?" I asked, rubbing my wrist which was currently sore.
Justin said, "Why are you with Elijah? Don't you know what kind of guy he is?"
"I don't care about his reputation. I like him!"
"No, you don't like him." Justin grabbed my hand and made me look at him, "I know you! You are doing this all to get back at me."
"What? Phfttt-" I broke down in a cold shrill of laughter when I heard his words, "Justin, you must really think too highly of yourself to believe that I still care about you."
"Are you for real? Have you forgotten me already?"
I glared back into his eyes and said, "Yes. I don't like you anymore."
Justin let go of my hand and stepped back in disbelief, he could not believe the person in front of him was the good girl who once listened to everything he said. The corner of his lips twitched violently as if he wanted to say something but couldn't. After a long time, he finally spoke up, "Gosh, I used to believe that you were a good girl but you are already warming someone else's bed right after the breakup. Kylie, you are a slut!"
"What did you say?" My whole body trembled in anger, "You cheated on me first."
"So? I told you it was a mistake, we could have gotten back but no, you had to spread your legs for some other man." Justin screamed before sushing himself at once when he remembered that there were guests in the house. He touched his temple and said, "You know what, I no longer regret breaking up with you! I hope you rot in hell with that bastard, he is just gonna toss you after he is done using you anyways."
The man did not stay there any longer and stormed off, leaving me devastated. I leaned against the door behind me and dropped on the floor. His words rang in my ears, even though he said those out of anger, was he wrong?
I did sleep with someone else just to get back at him. How would it not make me a slut!
I blinked my eyes vigorously to prevent the tears from falling from my eyes- was making a deal with Elijah a mistake?
"Lisa, are you out of your mind again? Justin just announced that you are his girlfriend and you want to break up with him already." My thought process was hindered when I heard my mother's voice come from the room. My eyebrows furrowed, did she just say Lisa wanted to break up with Justin?
Lisa replied, "Mom, I made a mistake! If I knew about Elijah, I would have dated him instead."
Hannah sighed in disappointment and replied, "You are still young. When you grow up, you will realize that looks are not important to live a comfortable life, money is. The whole world knows that the Crawford family is poor. Do you really want to marry a loser like Elijah who doesn't even have a secure future?"
"I… You are right…" Lisa said, her tone hinting at her thoughtfulness.
I was so invested in listening to the conversation that I did not notice a shadow tower over me. The person kept his hand on my shoulder, startling me but before I could scream, he covered my mouth with his wide palm.
Elijah had a mask of worry on his face when he asked, "What are you doing here? Were you crying?"
The man took me to the balcony where I told him about my argument with Justin. He listened to it carefully and followed it with a grunt, "He is wrong. You are not a slut."
"What?" I lifted my eyes to meet his solemn gaze. He nodded his head and said, "He cheated on you first and you two broke up, you are free to do whatever you want. Don't ever feel guilty about doing something that makes you happy."
I wiped the corner of my eyes and asked, "So… You don't think I am a slut?"
"No." He said and added, "I think you are a brave woman. I really admire that about you."
Warmth crept all over my heart, I never thought that Elijah had this side of himself. Even though his tone was devoid of emotions, he still managed to light a day of hope within me. This was the moment when I realized that I did not make a mistake in choosing him as my partner.
Elijah pulled his handkerchief and handed it to me, "Here. Clean yourself.
"Thank you." I accepted the cloth and started to wipe my mascara.
He said, "I don't think you have to work too hard. Your sister is already in love with another man and wants to break up with him. Their relationship won't last too long."
"Yeah, even I was…" I chuckled and was about to say something when I realized something. I asked, "Wait, how do you know about this?"
"I heard your mom and sister talk about it when I was coming to get you."
"But… They were inside the room."
"I know. I have a very sensitive hearing." Elijah replied nonchalantly.
"Oh, I see…"
"Let's go back to the party. It won't look good if we are gone for too long." He remained and led me back to the banquet room.
Lunch was served and we went to the dining room to grab ourselves a plate. "Wait here. I will be right back." Elijah said before walking away.
Lisa was already downstairs and was happily chatting with her friends. Next to her was Justin, the man was sulking and not really taking part in the conversation.
I saw Elijah standing at a distance and talking to someone on his phone.
I took my eyes off him and started looking out of the window, lost in my own thoughts when suddenly, I heard a voice scream at me, "Kylie, watch out!"
I turned around to see a dining cart rolling down at me.
"Ahhh!" My mind went blank and I seemed to have frozen in place. The cart was just about to hit me when suddenly, Elijah intervened and pulled me in his arms for cover.
With one arm protecting me, he used the other to push away the cart.
My eyes went wide in shock, how did he manage to push away the cart with just a hand? The dining cart was heavy and required two people to move it around. Not only did Elijah stop it with just a hand, it seemed to not affect him either.
Also, the last time I saw him, he was on the other side of the room. How did he manage to reach here in time?
Even at his full speed, no ordinary human can cover that distance in such a short time.
"Kylie, are you okay?" The guy started checking me and once he made sure that I wasn't hurt, he said, "Are you stupid? Why didn't you move?"
"I… Yeah, I am okay." I replied absentmindedly but my thoughts revolved around what had just happened.
Kylie’s POVThe attention of the guests was grabbed by the sound of the dining cart hitting the wall, they looked at us and sighed in relief that no one was hurt. The staff came running and apologized, I waved my hand and said that it was alright.Just then I watched how much the staff were struggling to pull the cart and move it away.I looked up at Elijah and asked, “How did you push it away with one hand?”“What do you mean?” He corrected his shirt and looked down at me.“You know, the cart. It looks heavy.”Elijah followed my line of sight and commented, “They are being dramatic, it is not that heavy.”“Okay.” I dragged thoughtfully and asked, “How did you manage to reach here on time? Weren’t you on the other side of the room?”“Baby girl, did you forget that I am a football player? Running fast is all I do.” He said before adding, “Why are you asking so many questions?”I replied, “What you pulled just now is not normal.”“Not normal?” The guy broke down in chuckles as if I had
Kylie's POVWe dropped by the canteen to buy ourselves some snacks, since everyone was already in the stadium, we did not have to wait in a very long queue like usual. There were banners all over the way and the closer we got to the stadium, the more we could hear the cacophony. Our school’s football team has been the state’s champion for the past five years and it was all thanks to Elijah. He really did contribute a lot since he was recruited into the team and was immediately promoted to the position of captain when we entered our sophomore year. He was the youngest captain in the history of our school and probably, the most skilled one too as under his leadership the Eastshore Wolves have not lost a single match."Elijah! We love you.""Elijah. Please be my boyfriend!""Elijah, you are so handsome."The football stadium was packed with people and all of them were rocking the red jersey, the official color of our football team. Everyone was holding big banners and cheering for the he
Elijah’s POVI watched her smile fade from her beautiful pink lips as her eyes looked around to make sure no one was watching us. She pulled away her hand from my grip and said, "What are you doing here? Don't you have a match ahead of you?""It's not important." I said in a solemn tone, "Stop trying to change the subject and answer my question."I stepped closer, making her take a few steps back. Trapped between me and the wall, the girl was like a lost puppy. She said, "What are you doing? Someone might see and misunderstand.""Let them. I don't care.""But I do!" The girl snapped, "I don't want to be associated with you."I furrowed my eyebrows and pulled back, "What do you mean?"She lowered her beautiful eyes and said, "Look, I know you are a good guy but your reputation is not the kind I want to identify with. It is for the best if people don't know about our relationship.""Do you mean you don't want people to know that we slept together?""Shut up! Keep your voice down, someon
Kylie's POVI ran out of the school building and did not stop until I reached the parking lot. I caught my breath and turned around to make sure he hadn't followed me outside. Fortunately, he didn't; I guess he understood that his cheap tricks to swoon me weren't gonna work.I have known men like him all my life, they would do anything to bed you and once they are done, they would toss you aside, leaving you all by yourself to collect the broken pieces of your heart from the cold floor.Elijah has been a playboy since I knew him. There is no way he had changed overnight, that too over a one night stand. My trust issues have peaked after Justin's episode, I was already hurting and there was no way I would date a playboy to get more hurt.I went to my bike parked in the parking station only to find that it had broken down, again! "Dammit!" I cursed inside my head. This bike was a hand me down and extremely old, I was forced to use this because of the lack of a better option. My house wa
Kylie’s POVBe mine! The more I thought about his words, the angrier I got.Who does he think he is? I clearly told him I didn’t want to be associated with him, so why would he put on such a public display? Also, who would start such a rumor about me? Elijah and I were worlds apart, no one would even think of associating us together.Unless… the person knew about my involvement with him.I clenched my fist, I knew exactly who did this.Jessica too came running out of the school, she was worried sick when I left like that. She asked, “What the hell was that?”“Let’s not talk about it.” I stopped her but I couldn’t stop myself from ranting, “How can he be so stupid? He literally just green-lighted all the rumors that we are fucking.”Jessica patted my shoulder and said, “It’s alright, babe. Don’t worry. It will die down in a few days.”“You think? It is Elijah we are talking about. All his admirers must be trashing me already in their group chats.”Jessica chuckled and draped her arms a
Kylie's POVI eyed the ticket in his hand, I did not know that he was already selected for the state's team. But then again, I was not surprised, he was an excellent player.I looked at him and smiled, "Congratulations on getting selected but I can't accept these.""Why not? I am not gonna charge you for these tickets." Elijah said, his hand still hanging mid-air with the ticket."That's not it." I shook my head and said, "Me being at your game would stir unnecessary conflicts. I don't want that."Elijah grunted and withdrew his hand, "I understand." He picked up a napkin and quickly wrote something on it. He gave it to me and said, "Keep this, just in case you change your mind."I took the napkin and took a look inside, and it turned out he had given me his number.I stared at the string of digits in amusement, I was one of the very few people who had his official number. It was so rare that I could sell this napkin and make a fortune.I shoved the napkin inside my pocket and said, "
Elijah’s POVI could not keep away from Kylie, her scent was so addictive that I could not help but get drawn to her. Even Fio was weirdly addicted to her, if she wasn’t around, he started to be a complete pain in the ass.I waited for Kylie to finish her shift and before I could even realize it, I was already following her home.I watched as she got inside her house and was about to leave when my ears picked on a little argument inside. Being a wolf, I was naturally blessed with a strong sense of hearing, and thus with a little effort, I could clearly hear the whole conversation.Interestingly, they were talking about me.I chuckled when I heard her father ask her if I was a good choice.Well, I cannot blame him! Who would want their daughter to be in love with a guy like me?Everything was going great until her father raised the topic of her marriage. I froze on my spot, everything was starting to make sense now. No wonder Kylie was in desperate need of a fake boyfriend, her parents
Kylie’s POVI was greatly relieved that I was out of this matrimony. Tony is an animal who is infamous for torturing all of his previous girlfriends, men like him don’t deserve to get married at all. Elijah greatly surprised me as well, he did not try to take advantage of me and was very respectful. But there was one thing that was bugging me. I asked, “Elijah, what were you doing at my house last night?”The man, who was folding his bedsheets, stopped momentarily. He said, “I don’t wanna sound like a stalker but I followed you home last night.”“Why?” I was taken aback. How can he confess to doing something like this so casually? He explained, “I know I was being an asshole to you and what you think of me is right, I am a playboy but that is in the past. I want you to see me with a new outlook.”“What do you mean?”He sat down next to me and said in a solemn tone, “I like you, Kylie. I really do. I know you might have a hard time believing it but I am serious about you.”I broke down
ELIJAH's POVThe Evening dragged on as I waited for the manager to make the call. But he was stalling, looking at me like I was a fly, a pesky fly he couldn't wait to get rid of. Well, Jokes on him, because I was stubborn. Plus, he had made Kylie unhappy. I wasn't leaving this place until someone got punished."I'm waiting for you to make the call, manager.""you… you can't just come here and make demands like this. The owner of this establishment has a million and one other things to worry about aside from having to deal with a situation like this.""ah , I see. Then you should have thought about this before you sided with your server and threatened to throw us out.""The peace and tranquility of this place was being disrupted.""Well, I'll let you know that this place will be shut down by tomorrow, if he doesn't appear. Now, call him." I said icily, "I won't be so calm the next time I say this."“Are you threatening me?”“You think yourself to be all that, don’t you? But, no. That w
KYLIE's POVThe night air mixed with low dim light, giving an evening full of peace and tranquility, in the restaurant where Elijah and I ate. I know I said I was going to keep my distance, but I was unable to refuse him when he asked me to dinner after school."It's the weekend, Ky. Come dine with me. You don't even have to have a conversation with me, you can even pretend I'm not funny and charming," he said, and I raised a brow, fighting the urge to smile. But there was a crack in my cool demeanor, and Elijah caught it."fine. I said. But don't expect to have the time of your life." I told him.But I was having a good time after all, because for all the ways I tried to keep Elijah at arm's length, I still always found myself feeling calm and safe in his presence."you know all the nicest places," I told him, looking around me. There were couples at different tables, some were having conversations, while some were eating their meals. And all of them looked at ease."Would you believ
KYLIE'S POVHe hadn't flinched. Elijah had not flinched, not after my accusation, not when it seemed like what we had was on the line. Instead, he had taken all that I said in good faith, as though he had nothing to worry about. He even asked me out on a date. A date!I told him I would think about it, and today when he asked what my answer was, I had betrayed my subtle anger and said yes. Now, I stood in front of a mirror in my room, trying to decide between a black or red dress."The red." I finally decided, tired of the back and forth. If Elijah didn't like it, then he was just going to have to deal with it.I heard a car horn and checked the time."Seven." I sighed, just exactly the time he said he would be here. I had to hand It to him, he scored great points for being on time and keeping his word.I picked up my purse and went outside. Parked beside my building was a black Bulgari, with the windows tinted, and when the driver's window came down, Elijah's cocky smile appeared."Y
KYLIE's POVThe night air wrapped around me like a warm embrace, the ghostly feelings from moments ago still playing in my mind. I wanted desperately to be held, so I hugged myself as I waited for Elijah's reply."So, let's hear it then."He let out a heavy breath and looked at me intently before shaking his head."There are some truths you can't take back once you've had them, Kylie.""Maybe you're right. But I'm tired of being in the dark where it matters. Come on, Elijah. You still think it best to give me half-truths after what just happened?""And what exactly just happened?" he asked, and I looked at him somewhat astounded."Elijah? What are you trying to do?""Nothing." he said, and shrugged, "I'm not doing anything, I'm just asking what you believe just happened?"I narrowed my eyes at him, trying to take control of my emotions. If I didn't know any better, I would say Elijah was trying to gaslight me."we will come to that." I said, after a pause, "We will come to that after
KYLIE's POVI took a deep breath as I walked through the hallways that led to the anatomy lab. Since the last situation I had with the cadaver while in the lab, I had been avoiding the place. But avoiding the lab meant I could not get my project work done, and it could no longer be put off. Not for all the unease I felt in the world. When I got to the lab, I turned on the lights and set my bag down on one of the tables. The place had an eerie feel, but I set the feeling to the side, blaming it on nerves and my overthinking, and tried to get to work."lots to do," I said to myself, trying to motivate myself. I was an hour into all the work I was doing when I decided to take a restroom break, and when I got back, nothing was different, everything was the way I had left it. Or so I thought. As I walked back to my lab stool and tried to sit, I heard a faint scratching sound, that made my heart pound hard against my chest and that had me stopping in my tracks.I waited to listen carefully,
Kylie's POVElijah was one exhausting human, after taking his body measurements, I went to the locker room to take a break. Thankfully, no one had finished their test yet and Jessica said she will cover for me in my absence.I went to the locker room and pulled out my water bottle to hydrate myself. Since I was here, I decided to check my phone for any updates.I was scrolling through my phone when I saw a text message which read that two million has been credited to my account.I was flabbergasted.I immediately checked my bank account to see that the balance had shot up from a few bucks to whole freaking millions. My hands started to shiver and I could not believe what had happened. Who put this money? Was it a mistake?I checked the bank statement and saw that the money was sent to me under the comment of ‘Lottery’.Lottery?Did I apply for any lottery?I checked the text again and found a number. I called it to ask what was going on! I had to be careful as scams were pretty widesp
Elijah's POVI got up on my feet and wiped her tears. I said, “Don't cry, Kitten. I am going to fix this. We are going to fix this together.”“Mhmmm.” She just grunted and did not say anything.Jessica came in just in time and was surprised to see me, “Elijah, you are back! Where were you? You know how worried Kylie was?”“I do. I am sorry for disappearing.” I said, “I had to go to my village to tend to some urgent work.”“Village? You mean your native place?” Kylie asked.“Yes. It's a little far and the signal reception there is not that great.’“I see. I would love to visit sometimes.” The girl smiled.“Sure.” I felt my eyes soften, “I will bring you to meet my parents.”Our conversation was cut short when we heard the coach make the announcement for the physical test.Kylie frowned, “It's today?”Jessica nodded and said, “I got my mask already. I am not taking any chances.”The chances she was talking about here was taking the physical measurements of sweaty, smelly teenage boys.T
Elijah's POVWhen I saw her walk away despite my warnings, I was burning with fury. I wanted to lift her up and take her back home, keep her tied to the bed until she regained her senses. Her parents! What kind of assholes would do something like this to their own daughter? Why are monsters like them even eligible to adopt a child? How badly I wish to claw into their chest and see how rotten their heart is but alas, I am afraid Kylie would hate me if she found out what I really was.Even though she walked away and made her decision of choosing her ego over me, I could not let her go. She was my girl and I will protect her even if she doesn't need me to.I called my Beta and asked him to immediately shut down whatever project this was.“Tell the boss if he doesn't shut down this project, I will shut down his entire business.” I spat on the phone and hung up.I looked in the direction she had just left. She is not in her right mind, I will give her more time to contemplate on her choic
Kylie's POV My phone buzzed and I looked at the notification from the calendar. It reminded me that it was the final day for the submission of fees. I took a deep breath and closed it. I could not arrange the money and I had already told the principal about it. He was pretty sad that I am being forced to drop out but he said he will welcome me with open arms if I ever decide to come back to school to finish my school.I was in the canteen waiting for Jessica to finish her class and come. When I spotted her coming towards me, I asked impatiently, “Did you find out anything?”Jessica looked a little hesitant as she revealed, “I asked around, nobody knows where Elijah is.”Colours drained off my face when I heard her words. The team had returned yesterday and the whole school was celebrating their triumph. Everyone was there except for Elijah!I was thoroughly disappointed not finding him anywhere; we had not spoken since the fight we had in the alley. I did not react much at school and
