Chapter 99 - Drop and Surrender

The laughter of one high society woman rings through the opulent drawing room. Now that Scarlet is nowhere, I am free to compare her with all the other women who flutter around like some lovely butterflies. It’s obvious that Scarlet is the most exquisite, though. She’s high on the pedestal compared to these women.

I sigh and fidget in my seat, both at the same time. I am wearing a lovely evening gown again with delicate lace—something that I need to be careful about or I will tear it.

“Relax, my dear wife,” Liam whispers as he kisses the side of my head.

Looking up at him and seeing an encouraging smile on his face, the knot in my stomach disappears. I smile back at him.

“Want some of this drink?” he asks, sipping champagne from a crystal glass. “It’s delicious.” He leans closer to me and adds, “Not as satisfying as you are, though. In bed, all disheveled and trembling.”
