KATIE’S POV

I glanced down and saw the tray on the floor. Glass cups shattered to pieces beside it, and their contents spilled. However, that disaster was nothing compared to the one in my heart. This was a foreign feeling to me, more painful than being sold away by my stepmother, more painful than being falsely accused of murder.

I was vaguely aware of the eyes that were staring at me and the whispers that filled the room. They must be whispering about me, too. But none of that registered in my brain; all my attention was on the screen, and I watched Blaze tell our story the other way around.

You beast, I thought, shaking with anger. Now, I was well and genuinely unredeemable. Worse than that was the fact that I was helpless in this situation. Not a say in the whole matter, not a way to defend myself. I never felt as powerless as I did at that moment.

Then the television screen went blank, and I blinked. I could still see Blaze's image on it, printed in my mind. I wished I could rea

AUTHOR’S POVBlaze stared at the unknown number that was calling skeptically. He was starting to dread answering unknown callers, and he didn't want someone else to pop out of the blues with some hidden secret of his and give him more trouble. He had only barely escaped this one. His saving grace was that Axel already had everything ready by the time he got back from Bill's, as opposed to him saying it could wait till the next day.Well, since everything was set, he thought, why not just do it and get it over with? Then, some normalcy would be restored to his life. Maybe this person calling was one of the reporters who hadn't made it in time to witness and capture the live speech. He sighed, shifting away from Lily's embrace. She looked up at him, her almond eyes questioning, and he smiled apologetically. "I'll be back," he told her and exited the roomHe had been surprised to see her in the house, and of course, she had her questions. He has been able to offset that and use her to p

BLAZE’S POV"Hi, Lily and Cicely," Hunter said, letting the two ladies in with a massive smile.I glanced up at them, pausing the crazy tap dance his fingers were doing on the laptop. Now, why did the ladies decide to come over today? Last I checked, it was Maverick who always invited them over. Well, I guessed that with my progress with Lily, she was a family member now, and I would be seeing a lot of them from now on. "Hey babe," I said as Lily walked up and wrapped her arms around my neck. She smelt like vanilla, her honey-blond hair soft on my skin. "To what do I owe this honor?" I put forth and watched her giggle.“Well, Cicely wanted us to come over and spend time with you guys. Plus, I missed you.” She answered."Yup, that's right," Axel's girlfriend butted in. "This house must be pretty boring without a female in it. You know, all you guys do is sit in front of your systems and ignore each other all day. How do you even survive?""By doing exactly what you said," I muttere

BLAZE’S POV"Hmm, this isn't half bad," Axel grunted, biting into the pancake he was holding. Ultimately, the family activity was over, and the girls finally let us out of the kitchen. It was a laughable sight, seeing us in aprons with flour on our hands. I wondered what the servants were thinking."Half bad?" Lily yelled, her eyebrows arched. "It would have been perfect if you boys didn't join us.""Oh please, spare us next time," I countered, and laughter filled the air."Anyways, thanks for this, Cicely," I gestured to her, and she nodded."Leaving already?" Lily asked the second I rose.I nodded, startled that she rose too. "I'm just going to sit in the parlor,""I'll come with you." She responded, shrugging. I pulled my lips apart to say something, anything, but there was no reason to tell her to stay back. You might as well start getting used to her clinginess."What are you thinking about, Blaze?" Lily asked as she lay on the couch beside me, her head resting on my thighs. I le

AUTHOR’S POVThe air felt suffocating, and the mood of the whole hall was off. Hunter looked around, and of course, everyone was dressed in black. He had on a black suit too, and he sat between his brothers, trying not to let the tears slip. Because they weren't crying, even though he was sure they wanted to, and he could be strong like them. They were the only ones he had to look up to now, both of them successful men, and if he couldn't even follow in the tiniest of their footsteps, then there was no way his life would be as good as theirs."You good, bro?" Axel whispered, leaning closer to him. He had been watching him through the corner of his eyes, and his lower lip kept trembling. He didn't want him to start bawling right here.Hunter nodded, a tense look on his face. "I'll be fine."He looked up as Blaze rose, right in the front seat of the gathering, and left with a stone-cold expression on his face."Is it just me, or does he look angry?" Axel asked as Blaze disappeared thro

KATIE’S POV"I promise you, it's not going to be a distraction," I assured, flattening my palms on the table and leaning closer to the woman sitting opposite me. Luckily, I wasn't getting morning sickness except for the dizziness and sleepiness. She lifted a hand, fingers brushing aside her ginger hair from her eyes. "I'm sorry, miss, we can't have you here."I grit my teeth, feeling desperate. This was the second college I had applied to, and she told me the same thing. What does my pregnancy have to do with my studies anyway? "The baby isn't due till months to come. By then, I must have covered a lot of ground. I swear I can fit into your school schedule.""It's not just that, Miss Tessa." She took a deep breath, preparing to explain what I already knew she would say."Very soon, the pregnancy will start showing, and then what? You'll need to be skipping class for checkups, and we don't allow that here. The maximum amount of days you can skip class in a session is a week, and tru

KATIE’S POV"There must be a huge mix-up", I muttered, tapping on my email. I sent a complaint to the help email address on the portal, hoping I would be replied to quickly. I needed this to go on with my search for a college.I still had two more on my list to check out, and they couldn't just reject me. Whatever I had done wrong was not enough for karma to be this cruel. As I arranged my documents to keep them back, my eyes caught a number and name I had scribbled down sometime before. It was labelled 'Mallory', and the name rang a bell. I gasped; she was a friend of mine back then. Perhaps she would be able to do me a little favour. I dialled it in at once, hoping that she would pick up. She did, and I gasped in relief."Mallory, good afternoon," I said."Afternoon...""You're speaking with Katie..." My voice trailed off when I realised I had said my real name out loud. My eyes scanned the area around me; it wasn't empty like I would have preferred. But no one was paying any atten

HUNTER’S POV"Do I need to go today?" I asked, crossing my fingers behind me, hoping they would let me skip school today. I had already played the grieving brother card on them to skip school yesterday and the day before. I was sure it wouldn't work to keep me home today."Are you running from a bunch of teens?" Blaze asked in between a bite of pretzel. The way he said it made me sound like a coward, probably because that was what he thought I was at the moment."That's not what the Griffins do, Hunt", he continued, tapping his fingers forcefully on the table for emphasis. "We face things head on, and we do not rub from people."Easy for him to say. He wasn't the one going to be in a class whole of nosy people. And thanks to him, my situation just got worse. They now had the speech he gave to defend himself to torture me with. I bet they didn't think my family was that messed up. If they had sympathised with me before, they would probably be rolling on the floor on my behalf now. And

HUNTER’S POV"Hey, Coach Jordan,” I called, walking into the open office. I waved at Mason; he'd accompanied me here, and it was a huge relief to focus on his chatter instead of bearing the prying eyes that followed me. He would have come with me into the office, but he told me he felt this would be a private discussion. The burly man looked up from what he was writing, blond hair falling over his eyes as he did so. He flashed me a smile. "Hunter boy" I grinned at the nickname he gave the members of the baseball team. He always added 'boy' to our names, and I found it annoying until I found out that he only referred to his prize team members that way."How're you holding up?" He asked I shrugged. "I'm okay."He raised an eyebrow. "How okay? Because you missed two days at school, this must be hard for you."Great, I could imagine that this was what I would be getting from most of the teachers today. I moved forward and placed my hands on the chair opposite him. "I'm fine. Mason said

Axel followed the man who came to take him out of the cell. He wasn't sure how long he spent here, but long enough to be really glad to be out. The smell of soap lingered on his skin, a bit too strong, but he welcomed it. It had been a long time since he used soap."There's your ride," the man said, pointing at the sleek red Camry parked in the parking lot of the station. In front of it stood Katie, arms crossed around her protruding middle.Axel felt a sad smile tug at the corners of his lips. Even in jail, he heard of the marriage between Katie and Blaze when Cicely came to visit. His smile disappeared as he remembered her expression when she spoke. The wistfulness in her eyes... It was obvious that she wished for her wedding, and she couldn't even have it soon.He had long made up his mind to marry her immediately after he got out of jail. He was able to beg her forgiveness, and she must really love him for actually letting all he did go. She assured him she'd wait; that was the onl

Author's pov Axel sat on Cicely's bed after several minutes of pacing the area and waiting for her to show up. Where the hell has she gone? He was considering going out to search for her when the door opened. But it was not Cicely who stepped through; and it was Lily with a painted expression on her face. "Axel," she began. He already knew what she wanted. Now that their plans had flopped, she probably wanted them to come up with a bigger plan."Save it, Lily, we're through." He shook his head in regret. "I was so foolish ever to think that this would actually work.""What do you mean by we're through?" Lily asked. "We're in this together, right?"Axel sighed. "Let it go, Lily. Find a way to get a new life...""A new life?" She looked devastated. "But I'm pregnant... I have nowhere to go, and you can't just leave me alone.""I have to," Axel replied. "I have to make things up with Blaze, and I know I'll be able to do that if I try.""And what about me, Axel?" Lily said, raising her v

Author's pov Blaze grinned as Tristan made his way to the dining room, where he and Katie were seated. It was a miracle how he could track his location with his phone number and then check all the buildings around for them. He never would have asked for a better friend; Tristan had already proven himself in more ways than he could count.Katie looked up from her phone. "Is that the man going to give us updates?" she asked.Blaze nodded. He was surprised Katie wasn't running from him by now. She even let him stay in her house without him asking. It made him wonder if the past few days' events had softened her towards him instead of making her hate him. He tried not to get his hopes up, though; her niceness didn't mean she'd like to end up with him, as he started to hope for. He couldn't help hoping, no matter how ridiculous it sounded. He wanted Katie back in his life despite all that had happened. As far as he was concerned, he was done with Lily. Katie should have been the one fro

  • My Stepson Is a Bully   CHAPTER 131: MOMENT OF TRUTH

KATIE’S POVNo way, I thought, staring at him and searching for any resemblance to Maverick. I could see none, but then again, I could barely see Maverick's face clearly in my mind. It had been so long ago, like another lifetime."You're lying," Blaze accused. With how he looked at Dylan, I was almost glad he was restricted from doing anything to him. Almost, though, in truth, I wished Blaze was free."Am I now?" Dylan said quietly, coming closer to Blaze. "When my mother got pregnant for your father, he left her, all because he saw a richer woman. You see, Maverick was a coward. His only way to survive was to milk off others' profits, and that's really who you're defending," he asked, turning to me.I stared at him, taking each word with a pinch of salt. I didn't want to believe him since he was the reason I was trapped here, and he even tried to kill me at the end of all this. But then, there was no other explanation for the absolute hate in his eyes as he spoke of Maverick. And why

  • My Stepson Is a Bully   CHAPTER 130: OR THEM?

Katie's povI gasped, staring at the limp bodies of Lily and Axel. "Oh my gosh, are they dead?" I exclaimed."Not dead, darling," the woman said. "These are stun guns," she waved the gun in her hand for emphasis."What kind of stun gun allows the victims to talk to?" Lily muttered against the floor. It was a comical sight seeing her lying there helpless when a moment ago she was gloating over us."The type we use, obviously," the woman replied. I squinted at her, unable to bear my curiosity anymore."Who are you?" I was trying to decide if she was a hero or a villain. She teetered on the edge of both, and I wouldn't say I liked that. She turned to me with a sigh and took off her mask. I gasped, eyes widening as I stared into the face of my former savior. The one person who believed me when I said I didn't kill Maverick and who helped me escape.Right on time again to get me out of this situation. "Doris?" I asked."Not just her." The man beside her said, taking off his mask too. I gas

Chapter 133Author's pov Blaze raised an eyebrow. "I'm surprised." The answer was clear: if their places were switched, he would eliminate Axel before he could ruin the big plan."Surprised?" Axel asked. "You didn't think I'd be able to kill you if necessary?""No, I'm surprised we might think the same way," Blaze clarified. He saw the twitch in Axel's jaw, showing that he was irritated by that statement, which made him smile."Not the same way, brother. I'm way ahead of you.""Correct me if I'm wrong, but are both of you arguing about who thinks better right now?" Katie asked, turning to Blaze.Blaze nodded. "I'm trying to make sure there isn't a bigger brain behind this plot of his. Hard to believe it's just you, Axel."And not only that, he was stalling for time. Anything to keep Axel from rounding off his plan soon because if that happened, he would kill both of them so quickly. He wasn't afraid for himself, but Katie concerned him. She was already broken, and having no hope of s

  • My Stepson Is a Bully   CHAPTER 128: THE INSIDER

Author's pov Katie gasped, staring at Axel. Of all the people she would have suspected, he wasn't even near her suspect list. Tears blurred her vision as she remembered what he said about her daughter."You beast!" she screamed, lunging forward. Curse these ropes; she would have been able to do something terrible to him. She wanted to hurt him just as he hurt her."How could you? All this while, after how close I was to your family, this is how you treat me? Why?" It was pointless straining to reach him; she slumped against the wall in defeat."I'm sorry about the child. That was not my intention. But it is what it is," Axel began, shrugging as he spoke. He had been shocked to hear."Fuck you, Axel!" Blaze thundered. How could he say he was sorry now? For killing his child, someone he hadn't even met in person.Blaze took a deep breath to calm himself down. The level of anger he was feeling was overwhelming, and the fact that he had no means to channel it out was the worst thing abou

Author's pov No, Katie gasped as Blaze fell to the ground. All that came out, though, was a frantic intake of breath, as she could not speak through the gag she hated so much. After all she had tried to tell Blaze, this stupid piece of cloth prevented her from saying anything. She wished she could rip it off, but her hands were bound, too. They had been since the first day. She glared at the man who knocked Blaze out, wishing she could wipe that smug grin off his face.He turned to her. "Don't look at me that way; he was foolish to come alone."He crouched to her level. "And if he did alert the police, then I'm afraid we'll have to kill you immediately. Either way, our mission will be accomplished."If looks could kill, he would be burned to smithereens by now. First, he wouldn't tell her anything about her child, and now he was threatening to kill her. After keeping her here for days, he did not even have a clue what to do to get him to free her."Just tell me what you want. Why do

Katie's povI blinked, confused. I could have sworn that my eyes were open, but surely, if they were, I would be able to see something. As it was, there was just nothing—pitch-black darkness, the oppressive kind that seemed to close in on you.I shut my eyes again and opened the—same thing. Now I was getting worried. In a rush, it all came back. I was in the car, just discharged from the hospital. There was music, and there was my baby in my arms.A baby that was no longer there since my hands were bound in front of me. I could barely feel my hands, and they were bound so tightly. I shifted, noting that there was a wall behind me, which I was leaning on.My feet were bound, too, most likely with the same material. I hated being tied up. It reminded me of the time when I was sold to the Griffins, a time I never wish to remember anymore. But at the moment, that was the least of my problems. Where was my child? Whoever had taken me couldn't have taken her away, too.It only became hard t
