Chapter 4

Jason's POV

The air was thick with tension, and if something wasn't done about it, I feared it would ruin the rest of the night. Apparently, I wasn't the only one with that thought process. All around me, the rest of the party goers shuffled their feet awkwardly, each and everyone of them not wanting to meet the host’s gaze. When hushed and slightly raised voices began to reach my ears, I just knew it was gradually blowing out of proportion.

“Did you see that?” Someone whispered. His tone was pensive with a hint of mockery at the same time. “I never expected to witness so much drama tonight.”

“I think I'm glad this happened.” Another voice spoke up, and it belonged to a woman this time. “The party was beginning to get a tad boring.”

I tuned them out immediately, before pushing my gaze towards the scene in front of me. Mike had his back to me, and with the posture of his hand, it was obvious he was still cradling the spot where that lady had slapped him. With how loud the sound had resonated all around, I really didn't need anyone to tell me that it must have hurt as hell.

“Listen up guys.” Literally every pair of eyes turned to face me. I wasn't exactly a stranger, so it wasn't a hassle drawing the attention of the crowd. “ Starting from now till the end of the party, all drinks are on me.”

A loud cheer erupted, and that was all it took to get the party started again. As a good amount of the crowd scurried to the bar, I took the chance to go scout for Mike.

“Hey.” I caught up with him in no time. “You good?”

“Yeah.” My best friend was lying through his teeth. Mike wasn't the least bit fine; his cheek was glowing a bright shade of red, and I could bet my life that his cheek wasn't the only thing that was hurting. His ego had been affected too. “I'm fine.”

I knew better than to push Mike. If he said he was fine, then it was best to leave him till he was ready to talk about it. I huffed, before sneaking a glance around the party. The guests had quickly settled back into the party atmosphere, and just as I was about to turn back to Mike, something caught my eye.

No, not something. Someone.

I didn't have a clear view, all I had was the way her ass seemed to jiggle as she ran off. Her bikini didn't help matters either, as the pink material only left a handful to one's imagination.

“Did you see that?” I turned to Mike once she was gone. “Tell me you saw that, Mike.”

“What?” Mike still wasn't in the best of moods. “What are you talking about?”

“I'm talking about that lady who just ran off.” My gaze darted between the spot she was at just a couple seconds ago, before jumping back to Mike's face. “The one in the pink bikini.”

“Hey!” Mike snarled, totally cutting me off guard. In just two steps, he was standing close to me, our noses almost touching. He was staring at me eyeball to eyeball, and if there was any emotion that was clearly dancing behind his orbs, it was pure rage. “Don't you dare talk about my sister like that.”

“Liliana?” I couldn't believe my ears, or eyes either. “That's her? I swear I had no idea.”

Everyone knew in the pack knew Liliana. Just as they knew she was Mike's sister, everyone also knew she was wolfless.

I had barely gotten the thoughts out, before another one popped in my mind. From the corner of my eyes, I imagined Liliana standing where she was a couple of moments ago. She'd changed so much I barely recognized her.

Her bathing suit flattered her body, perfectly accentuating all of her curves and hugging her in the right places. The image of Liliana I'd just witnessed didn't last long though. A picture of Liliana wearing glasses popped up in my mind, pushing the previous one behind.

She was a good girl, but definitely not my type.

“Stay away from her.” Mike seethed. “I mean it.”

“Me too.” I threw my hands in mock surrender. “I really had no idea it was her, and you have nothing to worry about. You know the type of girls I like right? Huge breasts, sexy, with long legs and beauty overall. That, and the fact that she has to be great in bed. A literal beast.”

“Yeah.” Mike's lips lifted into a wry smile after that. “She's really not your type.”

The party going back into sync seemed to put Mike in a better mood. In no time, he was chugging down drinks, with the rest of the crowd cheering him on.

A small ping from my shorts interrupted my sightseeing. With scrunched up eyebrows, I pulled my phone out of my pocket just to come face to face with a notification on my screen. It was a message from an unknown sender at that too.

“Meet me at the wine cellar.” I read out its content slowly. “There's something for you.”

The text made no sense. First, I had no idea who had sent this and they were asking me to go to the cellar?

All it took was one last glance at the party before I made up my mind. With my hands stuffed into my pockets, I made my way towards the wine cellar.

It didn't take too long for me to get there.

“Hello?” I called warily, before stepping into the cellar fully. Perhaps if I had known what was waiting for me, I wouldn't have done that.

I had barely stepped into the cellar before the lights went off, but that wasn't even the surprising part. As I tried to figure out what had just happened, I heard rustling from a corner of the cellar.

I wasn't alone. There was someone else in here.

Putting one foot in front of the other, I slowly made my way towards the direction I'd heard the sound from. I had only taken a couple of strides when I figured out it was probably clueless walking in the dark.

I pulled out my phone, an attempt to light up the place, but before I could switch on the flashlight, someone slammed into me, knocking my phone down in the process. Like that wasn't enough, whoever it was pushed me, causing my back to come in contact with stone wall.

“Hey!” I exclaimed loudly. “What the hell was that…..”

The rest of my words hung at the base of my throat as someone's lips came crashing hard against mine.

Shit.
