Chapter 9

“What do you think about this one?” Mother asked, her face lit up with excitement.

Not to be a joy killer or dampen her mood, I lazily looked up from my phone. She had a huge grin on her face as she waited for my response with wide eyes.

I swished my lips to the side as I took her in head to toe. The dress she currently had on, was beautiful and better than the last seven she had tried, and the deep green color complimented her skin and eyes beautifully.

“It’s okay,” I nodded, trying to sound enthusiastic.

I failed.

“Okay?” Her face squeezed in disgust as she repeated distastefully. “I’m taking it off.”

“Why?” I almost yelled.

“I need amazing, stunning, breathtaking. Not….good,” she sneered, tugging at the fabric on her body.

I mentally groaned. “But….”

She was already on her way back into the stall before I could get any words out, and the store attendant, who could see my dissatisfaction, gave me a sympathetic smile, and I wondered how much longer this torture would last.
