Chapter 17

I didn’t even have to be bothered about what to tell my mother when I wanted to head out. She didn’t even notice me all through dinner. Her eyes were solely on Daniel. Almost as if I wasn’t there.

That was a good thing, right? Right?

Anyway, I was jittery and could barely eat half of my food because of how nervous I was. Chase hadn’t told me where he was taking me, and he hadn’t shown up for dinner.

Did he change his mind?

I quickly shook my head to clear the thought.

Chase didn’t seem to be a man that would back down from his words.

“I have to drop by at Hailey’s,” I announced as I left the dinning room, and it would have been no different if I hadn’t said anything at all.

I walked to the front door, tugging the hem of my flare dress that stopped mid-thigh. I didn’t know where we were going, but I hoped this would be an “okay” dress code.
