Morning light streamed through the hospital window, casting a warm, golden glow over the room. The soft rays danced across Chase's face, illuminating the sharp planes of his features, and highlighting the depth of his exhaustion, and my heart tugged painfully.

As I stirred, my body aching from the lingering effects of the smoke inhalation, Chase's gaze snapped to mine, his eyes locking onto mine with an unyielding focus.
