The next day after Zara and I attended the concert, Dad told me of a meeting with the Delances; that we would be having Dinner with them. In his words, “You will be having dinner with your in-laws in two days time. It will be an opportunity to know the family,”

So here I was with Dad, dressed in a shimmering blue gown and walking through the door with a man called “Butler Nook” We were at the Delances Mansion.

Butler Nook led us into a little hall, when I barely heard my name and was enveloped in a hug.

“Sarah!" I inhaled Damian’s mother’s perfume, it was soothing and I suddenly missed having a mother.

"Hello, ma'am" I said nervously when she released me from her hold. Then I saw the man beside her. Mr Delance. The amazing father-in-law that went on the internet to talk about my engagement with Damian.

“Hello darling,” his eyes lit up with joy as he pulled me in for a hug. But then I didn’t know when I relaxed in his hold.

Like, I’m supposed to be cold to him but there was this tenderness- a certain vulnerability I saw in his eyes that calmed my pain. "Good evening Mr Delance,” I smiled

“Call me Tim, after all, You are going to be my daughter,”

My eyes came to rest on three pretty ladies behind Mr Delance. “Hello,” I mumbled to them. Two of them snorted, and looked away, only one of them smiled back.

Leaning on the wall also was a tall boy. He was the only guy present. I wondered where Damian was. "Damian isn’t here, yet?" I heard Dad ask. I turned to see Mrs Delance look away in embarrassment.

"He will be here soon, please excuse me," Mr Delance answered, removing his phone from his pockets. He walked to a corner.

Okay, what is going on?

"Pumpkin, let's go have our seat with the others," Dad said, pointing to the other three ladies and guy who were now seated before the dinner table of every assorted kinds of food. It was a little feast. Mrs Delance, Dad and I took our seats.

Oh God,  please if they’re going to talk about my marriage with Damian, let it be postponed.

I was seated next to one of the unsmiling girls. I figured she was Damian’s Step-sister. She looked so bitter, and I wondered if they were forced to come.

The "scowling guy" was sitting opposite me on the other side of the table, and we could easily stare at each other. I wonder what was going through his mind. Mr Delance walked into the hall, frowning.

"Okay, let’s have a little introduction, right girls?" Mr Delance gestured to the three girls as he took his seat beside his wife. The maids started dishing out the meals.

"Ill go first," the one who smiled back at me said. She seemed friendly. "Im Emily, Damian’s cousin" she beamed.

Oh! She is Damian’s cousin; not his step sister. Maybe that is why she is friendly.

Daddy nudged at me to respond. I cleared my throat “Thank you. I am Sarah. Sarah Wright,” I smiled a little.

“I am Ruth,” the one beside me said, keeping a straight face. I could tell that she didn’t like me. I only nodded.

"Bernie," the last one said, chewing on her food. She looked the youngest of them all. Bernie and Ruth had some resemblance and I could tell that they were sisters, maybe daughters of the first wife.

I think I would like to meet the first wife, and by the way, where is Damian?

The scowling guy smirked before introducing himself “Call me Duke,” He said, sipping some wine and staring at me in a flirty way.

Woah.The nerve.

I gritted my teeth, and nodded “Nice to meet you, Duke”

Wouldn’t Damian show up? Of course! I should've expected this. He doesn't want to be part of this- marriage. Why would he want to get married to someone he is 2 years older than? a girl with no influence or whatsoever? I was already an adult and people from my place get married early but…

I started chewing on the vegetables, but the taste was bland on my tongue. Everything sucks. I was thinking of excuses to make in order to leave the choking dining hall, when I heard the clicking of shoes. Someone had entered, and everyone had turned to see.

Damian. He walked gracefully like a Greek god into his territory. For a moment, I was lost staring at him, his features; footsteps, powerful aura. It was ethereal.

He was wearing a black tuxedo with a blue tie that complimented my dress. Did our parents plan the matching outfits?

But why does he look so good? What was it about him that made him so perfect?

Marrying him and standing beside him would be so awkward. He was perfect and me, I am just plain. I don’t think I’ll be able to cope or be his perfect wife.

"What took you so long?" Mr Delance asked but Damian didn't say a word. He just took a seat next to his mother and mumbled something into her ears. She smiled brightly. It seemed like he complimented her.

"Welcome Damian" my Dad said and I wondered why he had to greet him first.

Why was everyone treating him so special?

"Thanks" he said simply and the maids hurried to serve him his meal. He didn't even look or acknowledge me. We all started eating silently when his mother mentioned the wedding. Sweats immediately greased my palms.

“I was thinking that Damian and Sarah should get married on the 10th,” she said

“Oh darling, it’s a school day and you’re aware that they’re in their final year,” Mr Delance said “nonetheless, it’s what they want that counts. What do you think of that, Mr Wright?” he asked my Dad.

“Actually, whatever date is fine. Let’s ask them,” My dad replied “What do you want, Sarah?”

“What do I want? Well, Dad, it’s for this marriage to be canceled!” I bit back the words from coming out of my mouth. I shrugged instead.

Mrs Delance chuckled and smiled warmly at me before turning to her son “Do you want to answer that, son?”

He walked off without saying a word. “Follow him,” Mrs Delance whispered. I sat in front of the mirror as the make-up artists kept touching up my face, in no time I had transformed into a breathtaking woman. It is happening for sure, but was I truly ready for this?“You look gorgeous, dear,” Nanny Linda said when I stood up from the chair. I gulped hard and looked into the mirror. The makeup artists excused themselves.“Thank you,” I mumbled at her. She held my cheeks warmly, I tried not to cry “You’ll do just well, darling. Someone asked me to deliver this to the bride,”“Oh, dear. Thank you very much,” Nanny Linda stretched her hand to collect the item. I flinched and turned to look at the closed door. Damian really walked out. I’d thought he was coming to me, maybe to help with the zipper but I was so wrong. Oh, how stupid of me to think that he was going to be friendly. The two instances that we have had together had been bad. I slapped him and then insulted him. I took a deep breath and sat on the King-size bed.The room was luxurious and aesthetic. It was so beautiful. I looked to my right and saw a table and two laptops on it. Hanging beside it on the wall was a guitar- the one I saw him on the stage with.Damian Delance. I sighed and covered my face with my palms. I really need to be strong. I would be Damian’s wife until I get tired or he does. After a while, I stood up from the bed and walked out of the room. I needed someone to help me with my dress zip.***The ray of daylight woke me me up. I had a wonderful sleep. If Damian’s glare could kill, I would be a thousand steps from the surface of the earth. “Thank you so much Mr Tim, and Mrs Crystal for the breakfast. We would get going,” I told his parents. Mr Delance winked and gave me a smile. His wife, Crystal, however opened her arms to me for a hug. I went in and enjoyed her bosom.Grumpy, Damian said “I will be in the garage,” with that he left the dining room and through the corridor.“Do have a lovely day, bye!” I waved before taking to my heels. “Bye, sweetheart” I heard them say.I followed the same route as Damian, and just as I was about to head out the open front door, I caught a glimpse of myself in a large, round mirror hanging on one of the walls in the hallway, situated just before it. I ran my hands through my hair and wished I did more than applying a lipgloss.“Took you long enough, ma’am,” Damian snarled at me the moment I showed up at the garage. I opened my eyes to an unfamiliar room.My whole back was pressed to the surface of a chair, and so I had my eyes to the door. Then it dawned on me that both of my legs and arms were tied with ropes to each sides of the chair, and it was almost impossible for me to escape. My mouth was tied up with something so tight to my skin, which I presumed to be a duct tape. Where was I?Then everything came flashing back, the sneaking out of home, Zara’s house, the warthog mask… The same mask the person who tried to kill me wore…Just then, the door creaked open and in came the girl who had been the one causing me mishaps, Zara. This time she was dressed in a yellow top over gray joggers. “Oh darling, you’re finally up. I was hoping not to kill you in your sleep.” She said. My eyes widened in horror. I wanted to speak but my lips was still taped together. How could she do this to me? What did I ever do to her?We were best friends!Tears started to roll down my cheeks. I felt so scared, hurt
