"So, what did your mom say about Ares' proposal?" Elena asked me once more, leaning into my cubicle.
I chose to ignore her and focused on my work, stealing a glance at Ares' still-empty office. Elena was already beside me, eyeing my arm.
"What happened there?" She asked, her tone serious and a bit threatening.
I swiftly adjusted my dress, pulling down the blouse's sleeve to cover my arm. I avoided her gaze and started stapling the scattered papers.
"Aren't you going to take any action? I'm swamped with work, Elena. Let's talk later," I evasively replied, but she didn't seem to take that for an answer.
She grabbed my arm, making me look at her. She looked at my bruises. I winced as she raised her eyebrows. That was where Matthew gripped me last night. I couldn't even come up with an excuse because his fingers had left scratches that turned into bruises.
"Has Sir Ares seen this?" She pressed on, and I simply shook my head.
"We haven't spoken about it," I replied sparingly. Then I heard her sarcastic laugh.
"I can't believe you're still allowing your brother to do this to you. It's too much, Ana, just so you know," she began and sat down next to me.
I turned my gaze to the computer and let out a tired sigh.
"Because I didn't follow his orders when—"
"Girl, you better be joking. Your excuses won't change the fact that he's been abusing you all along. The audacity! You're already giving them money, and they're still hurting you. What's wrong with your family?" She said, her patience clearly worn thin.
Before I could respond, I saw Ares hastily entering his office, appearing quite displeased. I glanced at Elena and motioned that we'd talk later. She simply stared at me and hurried back to her own cubicle.
Once she was gone, I hurried to organize the papers that Ares needed to sign and adjusted my demeanor before heading towards his office.
I knocked before entering. As I stepped inside, I immediately heard the anger in his voice as he spoke on the phone.
"Stop making excuses. If it weren't for dad, I wouldn't have allowed you to come back here after what you did!" He exclaimed emphatically to the person on the other end.
I debated whether to continue or not, but in the end, I approached. I quietly placed the folders on his table and looked at him. He turned towards me.
"You've been a major disappointment to our family since then. Why should I even bother— No! I'm not competing with you. You're just his illegitimate child!"
My mouth fell open upon hearing that. His tone was filled with anger, so I figured he was speaking to his half-brother in another country. This is how he spoke every time he talked to him. I'd always wondered why he treated his brother like this, but I couldn't help but ask him the reason. It dampened the mood every time it was brought up.
Later on, I heard Ares unleash a string of expletives before hanging up the phone. I even caught a glimpse of his mild shock when he saw me.
"You're here..." He said promptly and approached me, kissing me on the forehead and pulling me into a hug. "I'm sorry. I didn't even notice you coming into my office. What's wrong?" He said softly, his gaze fixed on me.
"I just brought the clients' contracts for you to sign. Are you okay?" I inquired, noticing the furrow on his forehead as he watched me. He seemed troubled.
Instead of answering, he gestured for me to sit on the sofa and quickly headed to his mini pantry.
"Did you have breakfast? I couldn't pick you up earlier due to an urgent meeting," he changed the subject. I simply looked at him while brewing coffee.
Noticing my silence, he turned his gaze toward me, pausing in what he was doing as if he'd just realized something. He quickly closed the distance between us.
"I'm sorry..." he muttered while looking at me intently.
My forehead creased. "Why?"
"You waited for me, I know. I just … damn …" He almost whispered to himself and slightly rubbed his forehead, then closed his eyes firmly.
I swiftly took his hands and kissed them, causing him to look at me again.
"Tell me what happened, and I'll forgive you," I simply told him, still holding onto his hands.
He was about to speak when there was a knock on the door, and we both turned in that direction. Shortly after, it suddenly swung open, revealing a stunning woman. Tall and fair-skinned, she looked like a model.
I released Ares' hand and stood up, and Ares did the same. I wanted to maintain professionalism and not bring any personal matters between Ares and me into the office, even though many already knew. If I could move to another company, I would have. Ares didn't want the case.
"Lorraine, what brings you here? Our meeting is over," Ares' voice was serious and troubled. I stood silently beside him. I saw this woman glance at me for a moment, he called her Lorraine, and then she smiled.
"So, this was your doing while I was away, huh? Is that why you neglected the partnership my dad offered you?"
I bit my lower lip upon hearing that. Maybe she wasn't referring to me, was she?
"Don't take everything personally, Lorraine. I already explained the reasons in our earlier meeting," Ares replied coldly, turning back to his desk. He gestured for me to stay, so I just nodded.
I observed as the woman approached Ares' desk, standing in front of him with her arms crossed over her chest. I sized her up from head to toe.
Judging by her attire, it was clear that she also hailed from a wealthy family like Ares. She exuded sophistication and a formidable presence. Though we were about the same height, I was slightly fairer than her. Who was she?
"Isn't this getting personal for you now? Dating your secretary—"
"She's my fiancée now, Lorraine," Ares firmly interjected, cutting her off. I looked at him, surprised by what he said.
I caught a glimpse of shock on the woman's face, even though I could only see her from the side. After a moment, she turned abruptly and focused her sharp gaze on me, causing me to instinctively take a step back.
"So, she's really the reason why dad didn't pursue the partnership with your company. How low," she remarked arrogantly, scrutinizing me from head to toe.
Upon hearing that, my frown deepened. At the same time, Ares strode quickly in front of me, making me blink in surprise.
"I was the one who chose not to proceed, and you can inquire about the real reason from your dad. Don't involve my personal life here, especially Ana," Ares firmly stated to her in his baritone voice.
The woman's face wrinkled even more. "But Ares, you can still reconsider—"
"I will never change my mind, so please leave and don't come back here trying to insult my soon-to-be wife," Ares cut her off. I sighed in relief.
I remained silent as I watched them exchange a tense gaze for a moment. Eventually, the woman stormed out with a huff, and Ares quickly turned to me. I greeted his concerned expression with a reassuring smile.
"I'm fine," I quickly stated, anticipating what he was going to ask, but he ignored it.
Instead, he wearily sat on the sofa and suddenly pulled me to sit on his thigh, causing me to let out a loud yelp.
"Ares! We're in the office!" I shyly reminded him, attempting to extricate myself, but he hugged me even tighter. I even felt his head sink into my chest, leaving me stunned.
"Stay here. I just need to rest. I'm so tired..." I heard him whisper, accompanied by a lazy sigh, making me feel more fatigued as well.
"What happened? Who was that?" I asked, tapping his back gently. He continued hugging me.
"She's the heiress of the Chua clan. I withdrew the partnership her dad proposed to me a month ago," he replied in a lazy tone, which widened my eyes.
"Are you serious? Why would you do that? Haven't you wanted to merge your companies for a long time?"
In fact, he had been eagerly awaiting the Chua family's response to the proposal made by Don Damien for several months, and only last month did they respond.
The Chuas were the second most successful business tycoons in the country, with the Aragons being the only ones ahead.
Leading the way were the Galvez, who, to my knowledge, were also distant relatives of them. Ares had been eager to surpass them since then. So, when he received the response from the Chuas regarding Don Damien's partnership proposal last year, he was thrilled.
And now, he withdrew it just like that?
I heard Ares sigh once more, his hug around me tightening.
"I found out they've been involved in fraudulent activities recently. I know Dad; even if he favors them, he wouldn't want our name associated with illegal activities. It's better that I discovered this early," he explained to me, and I simply nodded.
I wondered why Lorraine seemed so angry at me earlier.
"I'm sorry for what Lorraine said to you earlier," Ares apologized. I shook my head and hugged him tightly.
"It's okay. I'm used to it," I laughed, being truthful. "Just rest, Ares. I'll stay here for a while until you're feeling better," I changed the subject.
Instead of responding, he suddenly pulled away from me and looked up. His eyes were already gentle, making me feel even more remorseful. He clearly hadn't had proper rest yet.
"I talked to your brother earlier before coming here. I'm sure he won't do that to you again, but please let me know if he does anything to you. I'm really angry, but I don't want to ruin my relationship with your whole family," he told me seriously, and my mouth fell open.
I didn't know what to say because I wasn't sure if he already knew. I also didn't know how I would react to what he had done, so I just nodded.
"I will. I'm sorry ..."
"Let's have lunch together if you want me to forgive you. Come on. I'm hungry," he quickly declared, and I just laughed, gazing at him.

"Just tell Sir Ares about it later, okay," Elena told me again while we were in the elevator.
I looked at her and frowned. "Why?"
Elena looked at me meaningfully and winked. "Riley and Via are going home now. We've arranged something for you," she seemed excited to tell me, so I shook my head immediately.
"I don't want to," I stated firmly and stepped out of the elevator ahead of her.
"You don't have a choice this time, Anastacia Solei. I've already informed Sir," she chased after me, and I turned to her. She just smiled and walked past me.
"You're getting married, so you should try new things before tying the knot. You might regret it," she said and left me there.
What else does she have in mind?
I shrugged and headed to my cubicle, typing a text to Ares about what Elena had mentioned. While waiting for his reply, I noticed a man swiftly passing in front of me and heading straight into Ares' office. I even caught a whiff of his cologne that lingered in my vicinity for a while. When I looked at him, I could only see his broad back in that coat. He was tall and clearly muscular. I wondered who that was...
"Are you sure you don't want me to take you there?" Ares asked again as we reached the front gate of our house.I turned to him and took my bag. When I looked at him again, I noticed he was yawning and struggling to keep his eyes open."Just rest. I'm sure Elena will pick me up," I reassured him. He took my hand and gave it a gentle squeeze."I wish I could rest with you in my room," he confessed, looking visibly exhausted. His eyes were soft, and he seemed like he could fall asleep right there.I gave him an apologetic smile. I didn't know how to respond because even though we'd been in a relationship for two years, we had never shared a bed or even been left alone in the same room. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't give in. It had never crossed my mind. Luckily, he understood my situation."I'm sorry..." I whispered to him and hugged him. "We're getting married, so...""Hush, it's fine. I don't want you to think that I'm excited to marry you just for that. I understand," he said gentl
"Where were you? You're taking forever!" Elena greeted me as I reached their table."Oh my gosh, Ana! It's true you're engaged! Can I see your ring?" Riley exclaimed loudly, quickly grabbing my hand to inspect my ring."How long have you been here? We were starting to think you weren't coming," Via said, her usual seriousness in her tone."The bartender at the counter chatted with me for a bit. There was even a guy—""Oh my god! Please tell me you didn't drink the wine Christian offered you?" Elena interrupted, and I looked at her."How did you know? I didn't drink because—""Thank goodness! Never accept drinks from that man or anyone here. You don't know what sort of
If only I could turn back time to that night and change what occurred, I would, a million times over. But it's too late now. Far too late.Waking up from a nightmare is bad enough, but waking up next to a stranger and discovering you're now married is far beyond what I imagined. Especially when you realize something happened between the two of you."How did this happen? I didn't... what... What did I do? Damn!" I kept whispering to myself. The frustration was overpowering because I had no memory of what happened. I glanced again at the man beside me, feeling a surge of panic. I closed my eyes tightly and hastily got dressed, gathering my belongings, though I still felt weak throughout.I rushed out of that hotel and hailed a taxi to take me home. I had no idea how to fee
"Hey Ana, we need Sir Ares' signature on this Galvez contract," Nikki said to me.I glanced up at Nikki and acknowledged with a nod, taking the papers from her."Why weren't you here yesterday? Sir seemed off without you," she commented, making me cringe."There was a family emergency. I'll get this to him ASAP. He's still in a meeting, right?" I shifted the conversation and nodded at her. She seemed like she wanted to say more but left instead.I peeked at Ares's office. He wasn't there; he was still in the conference room. I had just arrived and really wanted to avoid crossing paths with him. Even though I knew I couldn't escape once he confronted me, I was trying to steer clear for now. I was afraid he might see something in my eyes.
I've committed numerous wrongdoings in my lifetime, and amidst all of that, I've been able to acknowledge them to myself and those I've wronged. It's given me a sense of peace and a stable conscience. However, I feel this sin, this secret, might now be my undoing. For reasons unknown, I sense that even though everything that happened that night was accidental, I am truly to blame. I should know what transpired on that fateful night. And now, I find myself trapped in his arms. It's just that simple, and I can't do anything about it.LoveDon't dress too formally. Casual attire will suffice.I smiled as I read that text from Ares once more. I couldn't help but smile whenever he texted. Aside from
Unknown NumberI'll see you again, my wife.I frowned upon reading that. I chose not to reply and instead glanced at Elena, who was engrossed in her phone. It was our lunch break, and she was accompanying me since Ares couldn't make it due to an important commitment."Do you know how much an annulment costs?""Holy shit!"Both Elena and I were taken aback by her exclamation. I saw her defeated expression on her phone screen, which made me laugh."What? What annulment?" she asked in shock. "I lost. Tsk!" she added, sounding disappointed, leaving me perplexed.I bit my lower lip and recalled what the mysterious man had
I felt dizzy as I sensed something cold against my forehead. Slowly, I opened my eyes and saw a woman's face in front of me, causing my brow to furrow. She was gently wiping my forehead with a cold, wet towel, adding to my surprise. Where was I? What had happened?"You're finally awake," she said, offering me a smile.I gradually sat up and glanced around. This wasn't my room. The entire space was neat and tranquil. The decor was sleek, mostly black with hints of gray. The appliances and furniture looked luxurious, even the bed I was on. The ambiance, too, hinted at wealth. Clearly, this was a residence of affluent people."How are you feeling? Your body temperature is still low. You need plenty of rest," she continued.I turned my attention back to her as she spoke. She
I stayed in that room for a few more hours until the door slammed again, and I quickly sat down. I thought it was that man again, but it was Elena who rushed into the room and hugged me."Oh my god, Ana! I thought something happened to you!" She exclaimed, looking at me."What the fuck!" She winced as she saw my cheek. I hadn't seen my reflection yet, but from her reaction, I knew it was really bad."What happened? Why? Damn it, Ana! Why did you get beaten up again?" She said hysterically, not knowing what to do.I grabbed her arm and forced a smile. "Ares... can I borrow your cell phone—”"Ares is also unreachable. I would've brought him here, but he left the office right when you suddenly disappeared. I can't ev
"They are healthy. You will see them when you are well, so get stronger soon," he told me softly and brought his face closer to my cheek.I closed my eyes. I feel the extreme fatigue in my whole body and the pain of the wound in my stomach. I had a C-section. The last time I remember, I really tried to make it in normal delivery but my body gave up suddenly. Everyone gave in to me, so everyone immediately decided for me because if not, my children will be in trouble.I could feel Hector's tight grip on my hands so I looked at him again. He closed his eyes while his face was still buried in my neck. Apparently, resting... or praying? I smiled and almost cried when I remembered the first time I gave birth and he was not by my side during those times. It was normal delivery yet it was hard for me to carry. Because I'm all alone. Everyone was there for me, cheering me, but I still felt loneliness during those times. But now, despite the pain and fatigue that my whole body feels, I feel
Hector’s POVOne thing about Solei that I love the most—she is different—she still looks up even when the stars aren't shining. She made the broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She wasn't simple. She was a beast in her own way. She's mystical. Anastacia Solei is deep and I am always willing to dive into her mind and soul—no matter how deep it is.I looked up at him. The flower crown on top of her head is not enough to beat her beauty. She looks like a fairy in her long white dress. It's simple but her beauty is so beautiful. Her brown hair looks so shiny while they were swaying by the strong winds. She smiled and focused her gaze on me. It pierces my soul. I feel like my heart is going to explode because I love him so much.I am so in love with her that she makes me feel sick to my stomach.I can still remember the second time I saw her after so many years—after that incident.Inside that bar, he was the only one I saw. He seemed to be glowing while dancing in the middle
"Ares was right about you. He told me you're different than the other women out there. And I know he regrets that he used you in all his plans. What happened to us after that night, it wasn't the first time I saw you—the first time was when I rushed you to the hospital that day your father was shot by Ares. I knew I had to protect you because his group was also aiming for you. And then I never saw you again. I just found out that you are with Ares. That's when I found out everything he was planning and I had to rescue you again. And it pains me to see you hurting despite your genuine kindness. So when I saw Matthew hurt you, I almost destroyed his face after warning him about you. But he didn't listen. Your half-brother underestimated me, so I had to give him a lesson..."I felt surprised when I heard that. I suddenly remembered Matthew's broken face that was not done by Ares. So, that was him. Why is he only telling me this now? Why does he know more about me than I know about my lif
I could feel the anxiety and pain slowly engulfing me as we crossed the road to the hospital. I didn't listen properly to what Leon said and the only thing that stuck in my mind was when he said where it was—he was rushed to the hospital!I immediately looked at the nurse's counter. "M-miss, Hector Aragon..."That's all I said because I couldn't understand what was happening around me. He seemed to understand what I said. He looked at his monitor for a moment before turning to me."Still in the emergency room, Ma'am."I frowned. "Huh? I thought he was—""Ana, I found them!" I heard Leon scream so I looked at him quickly.I didn't waste any more time. I immediately followed him as he led me to the emergency room. I can still feel my surprise because I know that his condition is critical. Why is he still in the ER?My mind became even more confused when we reached a room that was only blocked by curtains. I tried asking Leon what we were doing here but he suddenly stopped and Hector w
Why do you need to keep this from me, Hector? what are you planningI didn't answer. I just stared at him. Measuring his gaze and how long he will go on lying to me. When he didn't really speak, I just got tired and looked away from him. I calmly went to the bed and lay down there. I suddenly felt a strange nervousness for an unknown reason."Hey..." I heard him call me.Next, I felt him sitting next to me. He caressed my cheek gently. I turned my back to his direction and tried to stop myself from paying attention to him."Baby..." he called me again. I closed my eyes tightly."Just go, Hector. I'm done talking to you," I told him lazily without looking at him.He kept caressing my cheek so I just closed my eyes.Where is he going? Does he know where his daddy is hiding so he will go to him? What will he do there? Why does he have to hide that thing from me?"I'll be quick. Don't be mad, please..." he gently said to me.I felt his hot breath on my cheek. After a while, his soft lip
"Don't you want to join us there?"I turned to the person who spoke and saw Leon carrying wine glasses. It stopped at my side."I wish I could," I answered him regretfully. I suddenly felt sad for some unknown reason."You still can. Unless Hector doesn't want you to hang out with us anymore," he said to me seriously so I looked at him.I crossed my arms on me and looked at him intently."What's your problem with him?" I asked him. Leon suddenly smirked at me and shook his head. "His father killed your parents, Ana, as well as you. He tries to kill you many times and he couldn't do anything about it. Do you think I can easily accept that? You know me," he answered in his baritone voice.I heaved a sigh violently. I somehow understand where he is coming from. Between the two of them, Ulysses is the one who is over-protective of everyone. If Ulysses has been given and allowed all my luxuries and passions from then until now, he is not. This is one of the inherited habits of Lolo Leonc
Everything he said did not enter my brain. I don't understand anything at all. He's giving up? Why? Why is he suddenly saying this? Where does it come from?"So, is it true? That because you love Leandro Alcaraz so much, you intend to betray mom?" I asked him in disbelief. That's because I'm still hoping that he might have another reason. That maybe this wasn't really his real reason why he did that. But instead of answering me, he suddenly stood up. I just followed him with my eyes until he arrived in front of the glass window of the study room. He looked there. His gaze was far away from nothing so I kept my gaze on him."Only my children know how much I love them... equally. What happened to Leandro was his own fault and he was the only one to blame for it. That maybe I was lacking in them that's why he did that. But it's not because I love him more than Ariza and Gascon. I did that because... it was your mom's will. He always wanted to give up but your dad just stopped him. We did
I'm catching my breath because of the anger and pain I feel while watching her just looking at me and I can't even see any sympathy in her eyes. And I understand that. But it still hurts.Agatha laughed sarcastically. "And you're hurting now because? What right do you have to be hurt after the bad luck you brought to our family? Do you think you'd get my sympathy because we didn't love you enough?""I didn't ask anything from you since then, Agatha and even more so now. Do you even know what Ares did to me?" I asked her trembling. I looked up at her big belly. I remembered what mom told me when she visited me last week."Congratulations on your pregnancy, anyway," I said and cried again when I remembered what happened to my pregnancy."I was supposed to be pregnant, too, but Ares took that from me. After he tried to rape me, he caused my miscarriage and I couldn't even do anything to make him pay for everything he did to me. He died without difficulty. Do you think that's fucking unac
"Where are you going?"I turned to the person who spoke and saw Hector who had just entered our room. It just woke up and maybe it came from Amari's room because they both slept there. His forehead was wrinkled as he watched me from head to toe."You didn't say you had something in mind today," he added and sat on the bed, watching me again while fixing my hair and face."Only at the law firm. I just need to talk to someone," I answered him then looked at him.His mouth was open so I looked at his lips. It was red and seemed to be calling me to give him a kiss. Even though he just woke up, he still looks very handsome. He is even more handsome with his appearance."Who?" He asked more. He slightly moved my chair closer to him and held me in his arms."It's Doña Valeria..." I hesitantly answered him.His forehead furrowed even more. He even licked his lower lip while clenching his jaw. "Why?" He asked again in his baritone voice. I swallowed."I'm not sure if she's there now, but Uly
