Juliette
Two weeks to Nov. 15th It's my stepdad's birthday. One of the days I'd definitely not been looking forward to. No offense, but I wasn't close to him or my stepsister; I had only maintained acquaintance with them because he's the man my mother married. Something I wasn't sure was the right decision. I shook that thought out of my head as I tied my hair up into a messy bun, and I slipped a gold necklace around my neck before matching it with some gold earrings. "Hmm, good." I said as I looked at myself in the mirror, and I smiled. The gold went well with the red dress, and the red dress would go well with the black suit I had brought out for James to wear. It wasn't a large event, but I'm sure my stepdad had invited the whole country, if not some paparazzi too. He liked the spotlight, so also Vanessa, my stepsister. I slipped on my heels and carried my bag, taking the steps one by one to the living room, and I did a double take when I saw my husband in a blue suit. Well, he wasn't wearing the jacket, but he had the pants on. Blue pants. "What's wrong? We agreed to match?" My black heels and bag with his suit and some red details on his shirt with my dress. He shrugged and headed for the door, not even bothering to look up. "I changed my mind at the last minute. Are you ready?" He glanced up at me when he got to the door and waited, and I decided to just let it go. He must still be angry or sulking over something I did. I wondered what though. The lipstick on his shirt incident? He already said it was his secretary who collided with him, and I didn't argue, so what was wrong with him now? He started the car and drove out of our compound, not saying a word till we got to the venue, and I intertwined my arm with his when we got to the entrance. "There's no need for that." I tightened my arm around his before he could remove it. We walked in and got led to the party hall for the event. It was already bubbling. Celebrities and important people drinking and talking as some music played from the mini-stage, and I paused in my steps when I saw her. Stunning maxi dress. Slits, a v-neckline, thin straps—everything that could make a dress pretty, including its very blue color. It was so blue, you would have thought I was the imposter with how similar it was to my husband's pants. It looked like they were matching. "Jules." She came forward to greet me, kissing me lightly on both cheeks, and I smiled... Quite tightly. "Vanessa. Been a long time." "I know, right?" She moved back and smiled at James, "Oh my God, we're matching." I know, right? She shook his hand lightly and held onto it as she led us to my stepdad. "William. Happy birthday." I said as I greeted him with a kiss on both cheeks, and my husband did the same, smiling and alive. They were actually quite acquainted; his family, my stepdad, and the business—they were all connected. But I wasn't so sure about Vanessa, though. From what I know, they don't really know each other well, so why was she smiling and striking up a conversation with him like they were friends? I grabbed a drink from a waitress nearby and tried to include myself in the conversation. "I know, right? He comes home late, but he tries his best to be there for us still." "Right? Where are your... children?" She asked after taking a sip of her drink. "With my friend. She's helping me babysit them." "Oh, that's nice of her. I must say, motherhood really looks good on you, though. I mean, you look all fat and pretty now." Okay, Vanessa and her backhanded compliments. "Aw, thanks. My husband tells me that most of the time. It’s actually nice to have someone who appreciates the real me." "Hmm." She smiled, "Excuse me then." She said as she walked past us to another guest, and I took a sip of my drink. "I'm coming, honey; I need to use the restroom." James said a minute later as he removed my arm from his, and I watched him head out of the hall to wherever the restroom was. Well, let's get another drink. "Juliette, my God, it's been long since I saw you." A tall man about the same age as my stepdad said as he came closer to where I stood, and I smiled at him. "Mr. Parker, nice to see you again." He placed a kiss lightly on the back of my palm and smiled back. "You're looking really good." "Thank you. You too." "I must say I miss having you around at the company. You used to give such good advice." "I'll take a wild guess that my husband is doing even better." "He's good, but not you." I smiled, "Come on, he has been at it for four years now; he must be better." "Which brings me to the question: Are you ever planning to return as the CEO?" CEO of Winchester Properties, the company my mum left me. I would love to, but as James had advised when I got pregnant with our twins, "I think I'll just focus on family for now. It's better for the children." "Hmm, shame, but it's okay. Great decision even." I nodded and smiled, "Thank you." "See you around then," he said as he left, and I took a sip of my drink again. James... Shouldn't he be back now? I glanced around the hall to see if I could find him, but I didn't. "Okay, this way, everyone." An organizer directed everyone to another hall where a seating arrangement had been made, and I glanced around for James again. Still nowhere to be found. Didn't he mention just wanting to use the restroom? Well, he'll find me at my table. He did find me about an hour later, blank-faced, and I glanced at Vanessa, who had walked in at the same time as him. I hadn't even realized that she wasn't in the room.Juliette One week to November 15th"Do you think he even knows?"I raised my eyebrows and scoffed at Summer, who asked that question. "What do you mean, does he know? Of course he does; it's our fourth wedding anniversary.""Yes, but you're the one who said he's been getting distant. You've been saying it for weeks now.""It's because he's busy. The company and everything, it's possible to get distant.""Denial is a river in Egypt, my love. Hold that man accountable for his shortcomings and stop making excuses for him.""I'm not making excuses. I just need to get this dinner prepared and have a great night with him. You said you'll take the kids for me, right?"She nodded after a moment."Aw, thank you."She groaned and scrunched up her face when I tried to hug her. "Let's just go make this pasta or lasagna or whatever you call it."I rolled my eyes. "It's spaghetti and meatballs, and you know that."She shrugged and got out of the car, taking her bag with her."So what are we buying
Juliette Arghhh!! James... Harder..."I tried to will out those thoughts as I stumbled my way to the parking lot a few minutes later. He hadn't stopped. He hadn't even shown any remorse. Yes, he did show surprise after finding out about my presence by the threshold, but after that, they had gone so cold and blank, I could still feel the shiver running through my body. How could he...I mean, why...Why would he...I felt my hands tremble multiple times as I tried to start my car in the empty parking lot, but it just wasn't working.I had seen the signs...Those little things that made me question if what we really had was true, but I had defended him in my mind then.It couldn't be.He wouldn't do that.I was just overthinking it.Well, look at me now.I chuckled slightly just as the car finally started, and I drove out of there.Maybe I was imagining this too.I chuckled more at the thought. It was actually ridiculous.Vanessa and James. My stepsister and my husband.I tried to see
Juliette. The paparazzi did attempt to eat me alive using this accident as time went by but James managed to put it under control. The family of the driver was compensated, and I was discharged the day after that, making it exactly twenty-four hours that I spent in the hospital.During that time, I managed to convince myself that I needed therapy and had probably only imagined everything. There was no way this loving guy had done all that I saw.It must be my imagination.I smiled slightly at him and closed the door of the car with his help once we made it to his car outside.Mine was at the mechanics for repairs."Thanks."He shook his head and kissed my forehead after getting into the driver's seat."The kids will be so happy to see you."Well, I couldn't wait to see them too.Thankfully it was the weekend, so there wasn't the case of them needing to go to school."Yeah..."I smiled slightly when he slipped his hand around mine as he started the car and we drove like that in comfort
Juliette "Wow. She must be losing it, huh?"I slipped to the floor, still laughing while they both stared and watched me."I guess it'll just make things easier. Don't you think?"I had just about another minute of numbness and hysterical laughter before I felt a sting on my neck. The darkness after that was more than welcome. At least it'll shield me from the reality that was now my world.****I woke up to another ceiling hours later, maybe a day later; I wouldn't know, but what I knew for sure was that my whole body was sore.Fuck!Where was I?I tried to take in my surroundings and paused when I suddenly felt a restraint on my hands and legs. What?I tried to figure out what it was, pulling hard with both my hands and legs in an attempt to break free, but the struggle only made the leather bite into my skin more. What the fuck is going on?I paused in my attempt to break free when the only door in the room opened suddenly to reveal a man in a shirt and a doctor's coat.Behind him
Dominic "Breaking news—renowned real estate mogul Juliette Winchester-Wright admitted to a mental facility after a recent attempt on her life. According to her husband, who is also the CEO of Winchester Properties, James Wright, the now mother and wife had actually been diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression for almost a year now, which had led to her disconnecting from reality and making multiple attempts on her life. She..."I closed up the article I was reading and checked the date it had been released with a sigh.Five days ago.Almost a week."Yet you still haven't found the mental institute?" I asked my assistant, Luke, who looked up at me through the car mirror."No. Most of the known mental institutes in the state have no record of Miss Winchester's admission.""And outside the country?" Maybe her husband had decided to get her help abroad for extra privacy or decided to admit her under another name for that same reason."I'm yet to get conclusive data on that.""Make i
Dominic"No!" James spoke first, breaking the silence. "My wife is fine and well, so why would I take over her position?""I never said she wasn't fine. Just suggesting you take over since you're the CEO anyway, and do you really think the public and major players in the industry would trust someone who has been to a mental institute as the chairperson? No offense."James looked genuinely annoyed by that."Okay, settle down...""Mr. Lee.""Mr. Lee. Such a proposal should have been made properly before the meeting, you know the protocols, not brought up in the middle of a meeting. You should know better.""Sorry, sir.""Mr. Polanski..." The chairperson pointed at another shareholder who raised his hand.Oh no, I knew where this was going almost immediately."I do agree with Mr. Lee, though. Yes, it's informal, but he isn't lying.""And I'm not saying we're not going to discuss this. We'll just have to leave it to our next meeting after a formal request has been made."The chairperson a
DominicThe ride went on for a while with many twists and turns, the car making its way out of Manhattan and into New Jersey, and we were on the road for about another hour before we both ended up on the outskirts of town. The fuck? The car was making its way into a pretty empty facility now, which could mean nothing but... Nah, it was obvious this meant something.I drew closer to the facility after the gate locked behind the car, its surroundings looking too sketchy and quiet as I glanced around, and I parked further up on the empty street after a little while. We were going to go in and check. But first, I had to change from this shirt I had on to a black tee; thankfully, I had one in the back seat of my car, which I immediately put on.Next, contact someone.I had only one person I could trust, and even though he was going to kill me for disrupting his plans, I had no other choice but to call him."Ugh, I'm so going to kill you if this ends up being nothing." He ended the call wit
DominicI found the room the guy went into a few minutes later, stuffing the rest of the syringes I had found in the doctor's pocket after finding out how effective they were, and I gripped one of the syringes in my hand as I went.If I had any more luck left, I would be able to snuff the guy with this and leave with Juliette.Guess I didn't have any left because the first thing that greeted me on entering the room was a bullet to my head that I barely managed to dodge. The next thing I knew was a fist hitting my face and the breath leaving my lungs as the guy slammed me straight to the floor, and he climbed over me almost immediately. The fuck?!How did he...It was almost as if he knew I had been coming."Who are you?"He asked as I finally managed to see past the pain that had spread all over my face, thanks to his punch, and I took in his features. The brown eyes, the sharp jaw, the crooked nose...The fact was I didn't know him; neither did he, because he had asked that question,
Dominic Just after a month of Juliette apparently getting admitted into a mental facility and then being announced dead due to suicide, guess who became the major shareholder of Winchester Properties.Yes, you guessed right.James Wright, her husband. The one person I really didn't want to associate with after my knowledge of everything he had done."Mr. Cole." I put on a smile anyway and shook his hand the next day after he was made the major shareholder and chairperson in Winchester Properties, looking like the grieving father and husband he apparently was.God, I was fuming, but ..."Mr. Wright." I maintained my smile and led him to the seat opposite my desk in the office after I pulled my hand away from his."So how are you doing?" He asked."Good, I guess, and you?""Well, as good as anyone who is still grieving the death of his wife." I smiled tightly and picked up a document to hide the scowl in them. I couldn't really hide after sitting down behind my desk."So... You said y
JuliettePresent day,God, it was cold. The air, my bones, and the thin top that was barely wrapped around my frame—it felt as if the cold was seeping slowly into my skin, then bones, like a nightmare of a drug."F-f-fu-c-ck." I wrapped my arms around myself and tried to stop the intense trembling of my teeth.I shouldn't dwell on that though—the cold. I had more important things to do, like looking for her. Olivia.I moved forward through the woods and tried to listen to her voice that I had heard about a minute ago.It was faint, but I had heard it distinctly—the desperate feel and the fear in it."Mum..."I whipped my head around and tried to wade through the darkness again."Mum...""Mia!""Mum!""Ethan!"My God, where were they?I couldn't see through the darkness, and the thorns weren't making it easy to wade through the forest."Mum!" I heard it again, but this time, very close to me and sharper. I turned around only for something to grab me and drag me down into an abyss of
Juliette Five years ago,His smile.Or should I say nervous smile. That was the first thing I had noticed in the tall—but not intimidatingly tall—dude when he handed me a napkin a few minutes after spilling his drink on me in front of everyone in the main hall.It had been an accident, obviously, but that doesn't excuse the fact that he had just caused a scene and embarrassed me at such an important event.Ugh, I couldn't believe it.I collected the napkin and turned away from his sorry face to clean myself, dabbing aggressively at the large stain on my white dress."I'm sorry. I didn't mean...""Of course I know you didn't mean it; you already said it like a million times, so you can go.""I...""This is the female restroom. In case you haven't noticed.""Oh."He glanced around the place like he was just realizing where he had followed me into, and he stepped away, flustered."Uhm... Sorry, I'll wait outside."I rolled my eyes and groaned again when he finally made it out, realizing
Dominic"And why would you think that?" I asked after a few moments of silence."The fact that it took you that long to say anything... among other things.""Other things? What other things?""You aren't denying it."Fuck.It was almost as if I was playing into his hands and doing exactly what he wanted. "I—""You also have quite the history with her. Friends as kids, or was it just the relationship between your parents that brought you guys together? The nerdy kid and popular girl, it must have been tough hiding your crush from everyone."Fuck! He was—he did do his research, didn't he?How did he even—I flinched and glanced down at the glass in my hand when he proceeded to pour out another glass of whiskey for me.What...I didn't even realize I had finished the first drink."What are you doing? Why are you doing all this?" He raised an eyebrow as I slid the now-filled glass of whiskey away from me. I just didn't like this feeling at all, the way things were going."What?""This—
DominicI put on my jacket later that evening as Luke went through the information I had gotten from Jude beside me in my bedroom yet again. I collected the tablet from him and dumped it on the bed."Staring intently at the information won't give you a more dangerous reason why I shouldn't go alone. It's already dangerous enough, and I'm still going.""But at least let me go with you.""And let your mother kill me?""We'll probably both be dead, so it wouldn't matter."I smiled slightly and placed the black cap I had worn the other day on my head again. "Just sit tight and wait here. Putting both of us at risk doesn't make sense; besides, I need someone to be here to take over if things do go sideways.""I..."I looked away from the mirror against the wall and gave him a look. "It's going to be fine mostly, so don't worry."At least that was what I was hoping for since it was quite certain that the person I had fucked over due to interfering with his job wouldn't welcome me with wide
Dominic "Wife of Winchester Properties CEO, Mrs. Juliette Winchester-Wright, announced dead one week after admission into a mental institute. Sources say..." Shit! Shit!! Shit!!! I couldn't believe him. Really? He announced her dead?! Did he do that as a part of his strategy or because he didn't know what had happened at the facility? I mean, something could have happened to make him clueless, but I wasn't sure about that. Luke adjusted himself beside me in my study and waited for me to say something. I really had nothing to say, to be honest. Her best friend knew nothing about her whereabouts, I knew nothing about her whereabouts, and she was still nowhere to be found, meaning she could as well be dead. Arghhh!! I ran my hand through my hair and sat back down behind my desk. What do we do now? Well, I did have an idea of what I wanted to do, but I needed a plan. One strategic plan that isn't going to end in a dead end. Ah! I sat up in my seat and tu
Juliette Oh God. They were inside already. I could hear the pleasantries they were exchanging along with the unnaturally high voice of Summer trying to warn me. Oh God. Who was it? James? Vanessa? Nah, there was no way Vanessa was here to see Summer. Summer literally hated her guts and didn't even hide it most of the time, so it wasn't her. As for James, I hope not. I don't know who else could possibly be here and chatting so brightly with— "So, Mr. Cole... What can I offer you?" Mr. Cole? Which Cole? I only knew about two to three Coles that I couldn't even bring to mind now because of how exhausted I was, but I did know most of them to be business partners I've related to before. Wait, is it that Cole? I leaned closer to the door and strained my ear in the guest room where I was hiding when I heard them start their conversation again, though I couldn't really hear what they were saying now. "... Juliette..." I felt my heart skip a beat right before
Dominic "Dom..." "Can you hear me?" Arghhh! I winced once I tried to move on the bed, where I opened my eyes hours later, and I found my friend's face right in front of mine when I finally saw past the blur that had greeted me once I came to. "Dom, can you—" "Yes. Fuck! I can hear you!" I managed to sit on the bed with his help, groaning at the pain that went through my whole body, not to talk of my arm that felt like it was glued to my shoulder. Ah… a cast. Fuck, I was in the hospital; it was quite obvious by the beeping machines beside me and the very distinct smell of antiseptic. I glanced at Luke when he sat down on the stool beside me, "What the fuck happened? I met you unconscious by the roadside." Right! Juliette. Fuck! I sat up even more, or tried to, making him more alarmed. "What?!* "Juliette. What of Juliette?" "Juliette? Oh right... You said she was with you... Wait..." He paused when he saw the look on my face. "Fuck! Was she... Oh my God, was she in the ac
