No Precaution

My worst fears don’t come true when Christopher Moore looks away from me.

I release a deep breath I don’t know I’ve been holding. It will be terrible if he recognizes me.

I am currently having a big battle with my mind on whether to go ahead with the interview for the position or not.

It doesn’t feel normal to closely work with a man I had casual sex with. Everything screams awkward in my ears, but my current financial situation keeps fighting back.

“Can we start the interview now?” He says to Stella who quickly agrees and introduces him to us.

“…The interview lasts five minutes for each person. As soon as you hear your name from the speaker, please make your way into the room across. Thank you.”

Stella and Mr. Moore head out first, leaving us to ourselves. Before Babara can turn to me, I stand up and move my chair to the end of the room until several minutes later.

I’m the last person to enter the room across and when I do, Stella asks me to take my seat which I do.

The interview is so simple that I wonder just how ridiculous it is. Stella asked personal questions like family and relationship stuff. But her last question about being willing to sacrifice my time and give up a big part of my social life for my job entails what she is on the lookout for.

I think Mr. Moore is looking for someone who would be at his beck and call.

Stella and Mr. Moore move back to the waiting room to meet the rest of the job candidates after they are done with me.

“We are done with the interview today and in two days, you will receive a mail notification. The person who gets the position will be put on a one-week trial period and if she fails to reach Mr. Moore’s maximum expectation, the letter of employment will be revoked and someone else amongst you will be offered the opportunity,” Stella reveals.

I think this Mr. Moore is going to be hard to please. Good luck to the winning candidate and I hope it’s me because the pay cut, incentives and company car are everything I need right now.

Right when we are about to be dismissed, Barbara lifts her hand in the air and immediately I know she is either seeking attention or she’s up to no good.

She’s always up to no good.

“Yes. Go on.” Stella permits her to speak.

Barbara stands to her feet ready to throw her question but not without giving me a smug smile.

I am not affected by it. It’s not like she is beautiful or anything, and for the point of correction, she looks smarter than she actually is.

Barbara completely ignores Stella and directly fixes her gaze on Mr. Moore.

“Mr. Moore, I understand how important public image is to you at this particular moment, especially given that you were recently instated into the CEO position. I believe you would want to do everything to ensure no mistakes from your end. Am I right?”

Mr. Moore crosses his leg over the other with a fist under his jaw. “What is your complaint?”

Honestly, even I do not understand the stunt Barbara is trying to pull. None of us do.

“I have with me pictures and video evidence of one of the candidates here making a joke out of herself at a public event. Hiring someone like her for this kind of important position will bring ridicule and cause you to become a laughingstock.”

Barbara pulls out her phone and steps forward to hand it over to Mr. Moore, but Stella takes it from her instead and goes through whatever she has to show.

Mr. Moore casts his gaze on the screen to watch the video playing and then, I hear a familiar voice that brings a bad premonition to me.

Don’t tell me that’s a video of me being thrown out of my boyfriend and my adopted sister’s engagement party after causing a scene?

How did this witch get her hands on it?

“What’s your name again?” Mr. Moore asks as he lifts his gaze.

I panic, thinking I’m the one he’s referring to but I immediately let out a sigh of relief when Stella offers a response from his side.

“Barbara Collins.”

“Ms. Collins, you just displayed a character trait of a whistleblower. And you know what that means to the position you interviewed for?” Mr. Moore asks.

He doesn’t seem to mind with the evidence presented before him and immediately, I give him a hundred for having a good sense of judgement by not concluding facts with so little information.

Barbara stills by my side. The panic in her eyes are as clear as day. I’m glad she finally understands the gravity of her actions against me.

Next time she will think twice before trying to mess with me.

I’m the last to step out of the room so I stop at the reception desk to ask Stella for the restroom when I hear her speaking to someone over the phone.

“...I don’t think I will be returning to my job here in Transcorp anytime soon and I regret my actions. If only I had taken proper precaution before my wedding, I wouldn’t have been put in this condition with a baby I didn’t plan for.”

Instantly, a wave of anxiety hit me as it just occurs to me that I had raw sex with Christopher Moore.
