Observing the students running round the oval, I spew out another sigh. I got done with my share of laps and I’m so bored right now. And Ria just happens to be one of them heaving their lungs out as they start their tenth lap.
“So boring…” I sigh again, my palms cradling my face and I glance through my peripheral to see that annoying group walking towards where I’m seated.
The boredom zips off and is replaced with a bold frown literally carving on my face like a perfect mask. What do they want now?
I bolt to my feet, drilling my hands into the connected pocket of my azure hoodie and is turning the opposite way when a snicker behind me has me retaining my position.
“Oh you’re alone. Where’s that kid- what was his name again?” Ignacio’s snickering voice rings irritably in my ears, making my frown engrave deeper.
“He’s called Silver” Another measly person speaks in response
“Sweetie tell me what’s wrong…are you hurt? You don’t like it there?” The worry in her voice makes me cry more, badly in need of her right here with me.“Mom…I hurt…” My voice breaks at the memory but I push on, “…I hurt my friend…it wasn’t intentional- b-but… he’s not letting me apologize…. I think he hates me now”.The sobs explode from my lips and I find myself allowing it to control me as I cry freely, forcing the hurt out of my heaving chest.“Baby please don’t cry…it’s not your fault, he just didn’t perceive you correctly. It’s not wrong to make mistakes but it is when you don’t try to fix it. I’m sure he just needs time… he’ll come around and you-“Who the hell is that bastard?! Making my little princess cry! Harlow we’re leaving right now”. Oh no…if they
Never have I felt so evaded to the point of utter frustration. He's been eluding me to the point where I can simply take no more. With a disgruntled look on my face, I step out of the change room. The hallway is almost empty as the students are already leaving for home after training classes."You look like a wild animal let out from the zoo. Are you planning to eat him alive?!" Ria gasps dramatically, her hands flying to her mouth and my eyes twitch with annoyance."I was going to start with breaking his legs but I think you'd make a fine tryout. Don't you think?" I smirk at her, ghoulishly and she backs away."Scram Ria, I've got a prey to catch" And I stride forward, whipping my head side-to-side in search of his traces. Then I find him at the school courtyard that's at the back of the front building. This time, I don't hide my presence as I rather blare it, running towards him."Silver!" His body jolts from my shrill call an
Shit! Shit!! Shit!!!He's even hotter on my tail as I slide on fallen leaves, going smoothly beneath a fallen tree just as his wolf bolts over the log. Before he lands, I dive in the right direction and accidentally roll over the dirt ground and keep rolling as I bite my lips shut. After rolling a few more harsh times, I slam my body against a large tree root that stops me from motion with a grunt.Gosh! I hurt all over. Thankful though, that he's lost me and a bit away from that since I've fallen into a place I've never been before.I grimace, rolling my shoulder and turning around. The tight cluster of trees rakes a cold shiver down my spine as I lift my leg over some rocks on the ground. The wind hits colder, bringing with it an acrid stench of- my eyes narrow to slits. Rogues!Could this day get any worse? I look around, trying to detect how many they are and discover an appalling result. Six of them, wild with rabid intent.
Silver is a wolf, a white wolf from the myths. Granny only ever told stories about them but I never believed they'd actually thrive in existence.Itching, itching badly to open my mouth but I feel engraved into the promise I made. A secret so big it crushes my shoulders...yet, I must not tell a soul.I must not defy my words. But...it's hard to contain it. "Heather you have to hold it in".That murderous intent in his subtle orbs as he took out the remnant of life from that wolf...he was so clam and unfazed. Like he's been into the act for long.Shivers run down my spine at the hideous memory. "A bloody, god-damned white wolf...right under our noses all this time. And we had no idea".I kick the air, pacing back and forth in my bedroom. Chanting to myself that I must tell no one. Gosh! I suck at secrets! I tell everything to my- Mom!That's it! I can just tell her and for sure she'll understand. I'll talk to Silver about it once we see
One day...three days...a week...two weeks and still, I've been unable to even say hi to him. He's been avoiding me and it's been hurting badly since I can't control the urge to talk to him.Watching him talk to no one, sitting there in his seat all by himself...the regret worsens. And now everyone knows what he truly is.Screw that prick Ignacio for spreading it round the school and plunging the resentment Silver must have for me."Heather...please don't look so sad and broken. He just needs time to blend into the new order of things. It's his whole life that's changed now".Ria starts her sensational speech again and it only scratches at the guilt in my heart.I made him insecure and placed him in a spot, cornering him from all sides. Even with the interrogations, he never spilled anything and only pleaded to be left alone. There's so much he's going through all by himself. And to think that I just went ahead and.... God, I'm a
"As hyperactive as always, happy birthday sweetie" He says softly, a kiss being pressed to my temple and my eyes brim with a flood of emotions. Can't believe I got so under the cloud lately that I absolutely forgot my own birthday. Hayes giggles at me, punching the tip of my nose."The look on your face says it all. It slipped your mind again didn't it?" He teases and I pout like the spoilt child I am, "Go away".Back on my feet, I look around ecstatically, "Did mom come with? Where are Harry and Harlow? It's odd not to see them with you, Hayes".Hayes sighs, "They're locked inside the car. Dad threatened them not to step out".That's just normal too. Geez! I'm so happy they're here! And it's my birthday too!"Dad why isn't mom with you?" I always love to act spoiled around him. He stares down at me with a warm smile."Weslee shifted for the first time and it gave him quite the fright and Yohan and Zach are down with a flu. You do kno
I'm about to shift back and confront the rogue when a huge blur cuts me off. Like a flash, twigs and branches snap, loud whimpers and sounds of struggle ring in the air and I'm shaken back into the scene playing a few feet away from me.Twice my size, deep coffee-brown and spilling with a menacing stench of hostility. An aggravated aggressive male rogue tackles the female rogue to the ground, snapping its dentition in her face and digging it's claws ferociously into her flesh. My wolf tenses with anger and charges at them. Channeling my energy into a single move, I knock the bulky bully off the female rogue and he's sent on a rolling spree. The wolf on the ground looks in a very bad shape that fuels my rage and I try to get it to follow me before the wolf returns by nuzzling its face. The wolf stands and I lead the way, heading anywhere but away from that rabid beast.
Silver's POV."...oops! I better go check on them now. You can enjoy your sweet nap, I'll be busy at the backyard!"And hurrying feet lets me know she's dashed off, making me roll on my side with eyes shut and a faint smile lifting my face.Heather...what a weird and funny girl. She could go on and on about everyone in her family, the joy and pride beaming through the vigor of her voice and her contagious laughter....Bringing about a swelling ball of warmth I'm so reluctant to accept, despite how nutso it drives my being. To just be around her...always, and at all times.Bleeding comfort...a dreadful chill that slides down my spine, pressing a frown onto my face as my mind drifts off into random desolate spaces in my tranquil mind.Along the scattered pieces of memories I've tried to bury underneath my mind...I begin to see familiar plains, valleys and sketches of settlements that has me reliving the cold, old times.Af
