Every minute of the three-hour ride raised my anxiety. I kept shifting in my seat as if it was the most uncomfortable chair I had ever sat on. Patrick had noticed it a few times, and then gave me a warm, soothing smile, which helped me remain composed… until another wave of restlessness drew air from my lungs, bringing me closer to a choking state.

Seeing the road sign informing us that we were 50 miles away from Greystoneville sent chills down my spine. We entered the Southern Woods Pack's territory. The long line of black vans drove through the road crossing the vast forest area that surrounded Greystone Mountain, a perfect place for wolves to hunt… or set up their battles while keeping their existence hidden from the human eye.

Greystoneville had been built, starting at the foot of the mountain and climbing uphill. The lower parts, further away from the woods, were mostly inhabited by humans and low-ranked wolves. The upper districts belonged to t

I took my phone from the soldier who held it in his hand and called Draven again. This time, I even lost the signal and any possibility to connect. I glanced meaningfully at Patrick. He immediately pulled out his phone and tried calling Draven himself. Like mine, his phone was out of range."Neal." Patrick jerked his chin up at the soldier standing next to me.He grabbed his phone, looked at the screen, and shook his head."Damn it!" Patrick clenched his fist, then slowly scanned the area, processing our situation. He ordered everyone to retreat deeper into the forest, hoping that whatever was jamming our signal was coming from the mansion. Half an hour later, we knew that it wasn't the case. The signal came and went in brief waves, but once any of us broke through with the connection, the other end of the line went dead. Nonetheless, no one but me experienced this odd strike of disturbing sound while trying to make the call. When I brought up that subjec

  • My Most Precious Human   Looking for closure

Draven led me to the top floor of Randall D'Apolito's mansion. As a precaution, six warriors from the Moon Hill Pack followed us. There were no live signs anywhere, but that didn't mean that any corner of this place was safe to walk around. Each floor of the residence was covered in blood. Corpses were lying on the floor, slaughtered and dismembered. The gruesome odor penetrated our nostrils, making it harder to breathe. Who was capable of doing something like that? What kinds of monsters were able to defeat all the best fighters in the pack, literally tearing them apart? Thinking that I could face the ones responsible for this bloodbath scared the hell out of me. Draven held my hand with a strong grip while we were climbing upstairs. I figured that he wanted to give me the courage to face my father, and I was grateful for that. Nonetheless, my greatest concern at that moment didn't involve my father in the slightest. I was terrified of the unknown danger, hoping tha

I collapsed to my knees, staring at my father's dead body lying on his throne. Draven was standing next to me. He leaned down and put his hand on my shoulder."Are you all right?" he asked."I… I don't know…" I muttered, "Are you?"I felt all sorts of emotions, some of which I was unable to name, and I could understand if Draven felt frustrated because, in the end, he couldn't avenge his father with his own hands. When I lifted my eyes to meet his, I saw anger and relief mixed in his expression."Someone must have hated him even more than I did." He stretched his lips into a thin line."Randall D'Apolito ruined a lot of lives. He finally pissed off someone powerful enough to kill him." I shrugged, trying to act as if looking at my father's corpse meant nothing to me."At least he can't hurt you anymore." Draven gave me a warm smile and reached out his hand to help me stand.I took his hand, pushing away my uneasiness and

"Don't listen to him, Lilith!" Draven's voice violently pierced the air between me and Sariel. "He may not write those texts to you, but it doesn't mean he's telling the truth now!"I sighed angrily, hearing his tone, and closed my eyes. One punch he got from Sariel wasn't nearly enough for what he did to me. Nonetheless, he was right. How could I be certain that Sariel wasn't lying to me, just like Draven did?"Look at me, Lilith." Sariel gently lifted my chin. "Look at me and you'll know that I'm not lying."I opened my eyes to meet his beautiful grey pupils, filled with longing and pain. I carefully examined his expression, enjoying the view, I didn't realize I missed so much. The depth of his sight seemed more profound than before. The shield protecting his emotions that I had once seen was gone as if he could no longer hide anything from me. This powerful man looked vulnerable standing before me."I won't ever lie to you. • My Most Precious Human   Let's talk

I was told that Draven should recover in a day. The cut he received from Sariel was quite deep, but it was meant to make him unable to fight, not to kill him in an instant. Of course, it would have been deadly for a regular wolf, but it was way not enough for a strong Alpha whose healing process started immediately after his flesh had been torn.Even defeated, Draven kept his position in the pack. Sariel couldn't care less about becoming the werewolves' leader. Besides, I doubt he ever had their complete loyalty. Certainly, it didn't make Draven's position any less complicated, and I bet his dreams of becoming a king would have to wait for a while. Nonetheless, the Moon Hill Pack deserved to rule over the entire north and south, and that automatically made Draven the leader of the werewolf race. The fact that Alpha Randall D'Apolito had been killed by some unknown creature was hidden from the majority of the packs' members. Only a few knew the truth. Sariel, Leo, Beta

  • My Most Precious Human   Before we fight…

I needed a moment to process Leo's words. I was so preoccupied with everything around that I never asked Leo or Sariel what had happened when they'd lost communication and how they had managed to get to Greystoneville. I looked at Sariel. His eyes were blazing red, and his expression was completely different than when his eyes were on me."How much time do we have before they'll enter the town?" he asked, gritting his teeth.Leo replied immediately, "Three hours tops."Sariel reached for my hand and pulled me to stand close beside him. "Draven should speed up his healing. We'd need all of his dogs ready. Call the meeting in fifteen," he said in a firm tone.Leo nodded and quickly dashed to execute Sariel's order. He watched Leo disappear into the corridor, silently processing the situation before turning my way.He cupped my face in his hands and locked his eyes on me. "I want you to stay out of this fight."I stroked his hands on my face an

Hybrid. This one word bounced inside my mind as I tried to grasp the meaning of it. There was no reliable information about creatures being a mix of werewolf and vampire. According to the legends, there was a tiny possibility of a child of a vampire and a werewolf being born, but no records were found to prove that. To give us any information, Leo read the notes that Doctor Will Duarte provided after examining the body of one of the degenerates. Will found many similarities between them and vampire commoners, which could suggest that the one creating the degenerates had to be a vampire noble or at least have a lot of noble genes. At the same time, their insatiable hunger could only be compared to those who were born to live with a commoner vampire's bite: the vampire degenerates. The hybrid degenerates didn't have fangs but massive jaws with sharp teeth. Their claws also resembled those of wolves rather than blade-like vampire claws. They were all at least 6.7 feet tall, with

  • My Most Precious Human   The new kind of fight

The monster standing right before me lowered its massive jaw, exposing its blade-like teeth. My ten-inch knife was still stuck in its chest, but it didn't seem to weaken it at all. Its breath felt burning hot against my face as it tried to sink its teeth into my flesh. I ducked and pulled out my knife, cutting the monster wide open.It let out an awful howl, making my ears ring. I jumped to the side, dodging the sharp claws trying to reach me. That creature was fast, and its movements were more agile than those of an average wolf. Risking getting into the range of its claws, I swung my knife across its stomach and then leaned back, avoiding the hit, but my moves weren't swift enough. Four of its claws pierced my flesh right below my ribs. I screamed in pain and raised my head to meet the pair of monster's vicious eyes. I could have sworn that it seemed to be enjoying my suffering. Its jaws were getting closer, preparing to tear my skin, flesh, and insides apart. It was the on

Fucking Adragna! I could barely stand sitting in front of the Marquess or his sons, knowing that they were the ones who planned the attack on my parents. I should have squeezed my fingers around their necks and watched smug smiles disappear from their faces in agony, and yet, I was forced to keep calm, pretending I didn't know because I had no way to prove it. Those fuckers were good at killing witnesses. I hated them just as much as I hated those mongrels from the Southern Woods Pack. I was the Duke and a future king. I had the strength to crush those bastards to dust, but I had to sit there doing nothing. Why? Because King Mael said so! This old vampire thought that it would be refreshing if our annual meeting were held in his mansion in the Blue Valley, completely ignoring the fact that it was in the middle of fucking nowhere. I couldn't stay there a minute longer. I didn't care if King Mael would be pissed. I wouldn't lose his favor anyway. I was the strongest of all the

  • My Most Precious Human   The Coronation

"My friend will finally wear the crown!" Martha's enthusiasm nearly made my eardrums explode. Truthfully, I couldn't care less about the crown. It was the wedding dress that was freaking me out. Who would have thought that the vows "till death do us part" would actually mean being together for at least a few centuries? I didn't doubt Sariel's love or mine for him, but still… I still hadn't sorted out the whole "vampire issue". After a month of living as a super-duper-commoner, I knew that I didn't need human blood; drinking Sariel's blood was enough for me. I was ecstatic to find out that he didn't need to drink any other blood than mine either. Will told us that it was a "mates' thing", and that this dependence would bind us forever as well as make us stronger. Yet, it didn't solve all the issues that made me anxious. Commoners lived forever, literally, and nobles had extended but limited lifespans. Would I be forced to live without Sariel? The thought of that formed a knot

"Good morning, my Queen."I would never get enough of hearing it. Sariel made it sound amazingly enticing. His smiling eyes were eating every piece of me. The intensity of his gaze made me flush. We were both naked, although I couldn't recall the moment I lost my silk nightgown. Sariel's arms were wrapping me tightly, and our legs were tangled. The air around us was saturated with arousal, so electrifying that the mere spark could cause an explosion. As my eyes roamed down from Sariel's eyes to his lips, I saw a smug grin. One breath later, his hands cupped my buttocks, lifting me slightly so I could feel his erection against my sex. I gasped."I see you're all healed," I chuckled nervously."Almost…" he smirked. "Now I need a different kind of therapy."His lips blocked mine before I could say anything else. He pinned my hands down on both sides of my head and deepened the kiss with passionate, lush licks. As I surrendered to his caresses, his han

  • My Most Precious Human   Destiny

According to the legendWill found, the mate's blood had the greatest effect on the full moon. Well… no surprise there. Conveniently for us, the full moon was tomorrow. The problem was that the whole ritual was quite risky since it required unplugging Sariel from any monitoring equipment in order to grant us an intimate environment. The healing ritual should have been performed between the two mates alone, without any disturbances. I could actually agree with that last one. The moment when we exchanged blood last time, well... I wouldn't want anyone to be around when it happened. Still, I was restless. What if we unplugged Sariel because we believed the legend, and he would die because of this choice?I asked Will if I could read everything he found about that legend, and he agreed to bring me all the centuries-old books that had mentioned something like "mates" among vampires. The moment I began to read it, my heart started to pound. The words describing the bond

  • My Most Precious Human   Numb

After coming back to the Palace, I was dragged away from Sariel. The King was unconscious, and the reign of the kingdom had to be settled immediately. I was led to the study, where I met Gabriel, a group of lawyers, and Leo. I had no idea what my role was in all of this, and I didn't care. I would rather sit by Sariel's bed until he woke up, yet Leo firmly held my hand, convincing me to stay. He told me that there was a certain protocol I, as the queen-to-be, should follow. Reluctantly, I gave up and decided to listen. One of the lawyers stepped forward. He held a sealed envelope. He showed everyone the unbroken seal, and then he opened the content. It was an emergency protocol. It was only supposed to be open if something happened to the King. Acknowledging the reason we were gathered in that room made my head spin. I was suffocating. I stumbled, taking a step back. It was too much. Sariel wasn't dead! I couldn't bear to do anything as if he had already died!"It's on

  • My Most Precious Human   To die for love

When I saw Jarred standing over Sariel, who was lying on the ground, my heart stopped beating. My King was bleeding heavily from multiple cuts on his chest, his shoulders, his arms… When I ran into the arena and stopped in the middle, everyone's eyes shifted to me. I struggled to take a breath as the tears flooded my cheeks. Jarred growled and gestured at two standing-by guards so they could take me out of there. Jarred should have known better than to send two rogue werewolves against me. As I roared warningly and pulled out my claws, the wolves stepped back, recognizing my strength.I knew that I couldn't interfere in Sariel's fight. I was no match for Jarred, nor did I want to take away Sariel's pride. The only thing I could do was to bring back his will and courage. I couldn't lose him when we had just gotten each other back. As he turned his head towards me, I met his eyes. Their fire was slowly dying. The view devastated me, but I was not allowed to give up.

  • My Most Precious Human   Fight or die

I ran towards the screen, processing the situation. The arena was surrounded by a rising ring of metal constructions with wooden boards lying on them, creating a provisional place to stand or walk. A few seconds later, Sariel and Jarred were joined by the audience. They stood on each floor of the construction. They were Jarred's men: rogue wolves and commoner vampires, hiding their flesh under the thick hoods and robes. The outcasts. They were all chanting Jarred's name and spitting underneath Sariel's feet. I could hear their spiteful voices coming through the speakers. Hearing their hatred tore my heart apart, but Sariel seemed unmoved. My King stood proudly, glaring at his enemy while he enticed the crowd, fueling their furious shouts. "Where's Lilith?" Sariel clenched his fist, seeking my presence in the audience. Jarred raised his hand, silencing the crowd, before speaking, "My Sister is safe. She is resting in her room." He curved his lips into a smile, but his

I turned towards the door and observed the overly tall shape of a man emerging from the shadows of the corridor. As he passed the threshold of my cell, I stepped back, soaking my bare feet in the puddle of Ian's blood. My instincts forced me to keep the right distance despite the circumstances. His dangerous aura filled every corner of the room, making every breath more and more uncomfortable.A second later, I saw a man with wavy, naturally ruffled black hair. The irises of his eyes were green with light shades of gold, captivatingly glowing in his olive complexion. He had strongly underlined cheekbones and a sharp jawline, giving him a highly intimidating look. As he entered, his eyes were locked on me. He never spared a glance at Ian's bloodied corpse. He stepped forward, and I instantly stepped back. Once I did, his full faint-pink lips formed a wicked smirk. He walked my way until my steps back brought me against the wall.He easily towered over me, shutting me in

"Lilith." Someone cautiously called my name, pulling me back to awareness.Waking up was hard. It instantly brought me pain before I could even open my eyes. My mouth twisted in a silent scream as I felt my body burning from the inside. My senses were dull, and I could barely feel anything except the pain."Silver is still in your blood. Try not to move; it will be less painful that way," the low voice advised. As more of my consciousness came back, I found myself lying on the bed. I opened my eyes and saw my hands in shackles, restrained by chains on both sides of the bed. There was also a cold metallic collar on my neck. The advice I heard was accurate: the pain lessened as soon as I stooped to move, yet I needed to find out more to evaluate my situation. I slowly turned my head to the source of the voice and saw Ian standing beside my bed.I instantly frowned. "Traitor," I mumbled. He smiled wryly. "I merely chose to be someone better than a dri
