(Cassie POV)

When Aaron and I walked into the small conference room hand-in-hand, Jason growled. Aaron was immediately possessive and protective, pulling me onto his lap and kissing me on the temple.

I loved Aaron’s attention, but I was confused and bothered by Jason’s behavior. Our rejection was mutual, wasn’t it? Yes, I had to convince Jason to see reality, but he clearly saw me as a sister or friend and not as a mate… otherwise my little stunt would not have worked. So why is he acting like this now?

“Cassie’s family is about 20 minutes away, so let’s get this meeting started,” Alpha Blake announced.

One of the elders stood up. “Alpha, I’m sure you will tell us what this meeting is for momentarily, but I have to ask why the she-wolf that was previously introduced to us as Beta Jason’s mate is currently sitting in the lap of your son.”

“Yes, Elder Nicholas. That is actually what the meeting is about. It seems that there have been some recent developments, and I am not totally

(Aaron POV) I have heard friends and pack members talk about meeting their future in-laws many times over the years. During those conversations, I have never heard anyone describe it as being a fun or stress-free experience. However, I’ve also not heard anyone describe those initial meetings as resembling anything like what Cassie and I experienced. Of course, Cassie was already loved by my father and Josephine before she became my mate. That definitely made it easier on her, but even so… I don’t think any of us will ever forget the look in their eyes when they first saw her standing next to me in my room, freshly f---d, with my mark on her neck. And even then, the awkwardness of that moment cannot begin to compare to what it was like for me when we sat down with Cassie’s family to talk about the events that led up to the breaking of Cassie’s pack link with White Howlers. I had only been half-joking about wanting to buy tickets to Europe to avoid the whole d—n thing. Cassie’s f

    (Nine Months Later) (Cassie POV) I sat next to Aaron in the front row of chairs, as we eagerly waited for the bride to make her entrance. The wedding ceremony had been set up outside, against a beautiful backdrop of trees, lilies, and roses. As we waited for the wedding to start, Aaron rubbed his thumb lovingly across the sapphire wedding ring on my left hand, while his other hand rubbed my lower thigh. When the wind blew my hair out of place, Aaron gently tucked one of the strands behind my ear and kissed me ever so sweetly. Aaron and I have now been married for six months. We made good on (almost) all of the promises that we made to each other that first night – I planned our first date and he planned both a formal proposal and our wedding. For our first date, I decided to take him to an amusement park in human territory. I have never had so much fun or laughed so hard. We rode roller coasters; we ate hot dogs and cotton candy; we made funny faces at each other in the fun house;

**** Author Note…… I was originally going to end the book at the Josephine’s Wedding chapter, but I decided I wasn’t ready to let Cassie and Aaron go just yet. Plus, I can’t leave Jason hanging. Get ready for part 2 of this very bumpy ride. Part 2 will focus a lot more on Jason, but we are far from done with Cassie and Aaron.**** (Jason POV) Does the Moon Goddess hate me? I am definitely starting to think so. I am currently standing at Alpha Blake and Josephine’s wedding reception, staring at my beautiful second-chance mate. Unfortunately, I can tell from the look on her face that my mate is shocked, scared, and slightly offended by our pairing. And I can’t honestly blame her. As my wolf continues to go crazy in my head –-begging and pleading with me to not to mess up another mating— I can’t help but think of all of the events that led us here. Just to recap: I met my first mate at a wedding dress boutique while she was trying on wedding dresses. When I met her, I wrong

(Aaron POV)Well, isn’t this interesting. Jason has a second chance mate.Cassie and I had been talking to some of the other couples by the bar when Josephine tossed her bouquet and Jason shouted “mate.” What a fascinating scene it soon became.“Oh no! Aaron, do you think it is Candy or Maggie? Can you tell?” Cassie whispered to me.I thought for a moment, taking in the scene. “I’m not sure. Both Candy and Maggie look pretty freaked out.” Then I started to laugh. I couldn’t help it.Cassie gave me a side-eye look. “Why are you laughing?” she asked.“Because whether his mate is Candy or Maggie, it could not have happened to a better wolf,” I replied, taking a sip of my champagne. “Karma really is a b---ch, and the Moon Goddess clearly has a sense of humor.”“Candy and Maggie are my friends, Aaron,” Cassie gently chastised me.“Yes, and when we get a chance, we can send our condolences. But I don’t think you need to worry; it’s going to be next to impossible for Jason to win

  • My Mate's Wedding Drama    Chapter 63: Candy

(Candy POV) The Moon Goddess either has a cruel sense of humor, or she has a blind spot when it comes to Jason Baxter. Either way, her near-perfect batting average for pairing mates seems to be slipping. To be fair, had you told me a year ago that Jason Baxter was my mate, I would have been thrilled. I might have even gotten on a table and performed a happy dance. After all, I had had a secret crush on Jason since I first moved to this part of the country. I knew he was a womanizer, but in every picture I saw of him, there was something in his eyes that spoke to me and my wolf. Because of some of the things that happened to me at my original pack –and at some of the other places I’ve lived since leaving there-- I learned early on how important it is to do your research before moving somewhere. In my case, I found that it was especially important to know the names of all the packs within a 4-hour radius, as well as the names of their alphas, betas, gammas, and heirs. I also nee

(Jason POV)The dance floor is filling with happy couples, but Candy and I continue to be frozen in place, staring at one another. Even from here, I can see the wheels in her brain spinning. I can only pray to the Moon Goddess that at least a few of Candy’s thoughts are positive ones.Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Aaron and Cassie head to the floor and begin to dance. For a moment, my wolf urges me to take my eyes off of Candy and watch the two of them.“What they have, Jason, is what we can and should have with Candy,” my wolf tells me.“Is it too late? Will she forgive me?” I ask my wolf.“It is never too late when it comes to love,” he replies.Wow. Who knew my wolf was such a romantic. Heck, who knew my wolf could say more than two sentences to me without calling me a moron. As I continue to watch Aaron twirl Cassie around, my heart fills with longing, but also hope. Maybe, even with all the mistakes that I have made in the past, I can finally get this one right.

Finally, I reach her. “Candy!” I say in a softer voice. I reach out and grab her gently on her arm, and I feel powerful sparks shoot through me.“Go away, Jason,” she says softly, still not turning around.“Candy, please,” I beg. My heart is pounding inside of my chest. I can already feel the power of the connection between us. My wolf is right; I cannot let her go. “Candy….”*****(Candy POV)As soon as I heard Jason call my name, the single tear running down my cheek became a river of tears. (Aaron POV) After almost three years of planning, rescheduling, and planning again, my father and Josephine are finally married. All things considered, I think today’s event went perfectly. The ceremony was beautiful, the dinner was delicious, we made some good connections with wedding guests from other packs, and we even got some free entertainment in the form of Jason finding his second-chance mate. Once my father and Josephine said their good-byes to the guests, and once Cassie’s family turned in for the night, I was ready to do the same. I swept my beautiful bride off of her feet and I started to carry her, giggling, back to the packhouse and to our room. Unfortunately, just before I made it out of the reception area, Jason came running in. “Aaron!!! Aaron, where is Josephine?” he asked me. “She’s with my father.” “Where?” I looked at him annoyed. “Jason, it’s their wedding night. Where do you think they are?” “I need to find Josephine,” Jason responded frantically.

And that is a wrap! I hope you all have enjoyed the journey. I will definitely miss these characters. They definitely took on personalities of their own as we went along. I cannot tell you how many times I sat down planning to write one thing, only to find the characters demanding we go a different direction. Thankfully, we will still get glimpses of the key characters in Book 2, which will focus on the Moon Goddess's decision to pair Maggie and Alpha Paul. That book will also pick up where this book left off, in terms of Bobby and the Moonlight Six. I plan to start Book 2 in a few weeks, after I take some time off for a couple of family vacations. Thank you all for reading!!! If you have enjoyed the journey, please leave a gem and/or positive review!

  • My Mate's Wedding Drama    Epilogue

(2 ½ months later)(Jason POV)The last few months have been an absolute whirlwind, but I can honestly say that I have never been happier. After our big fight the night of Duncan and Moira’s cake-tasting, Paige and I stayed up for hours talking… and fighting… and making up again. We realized that we both like to be challenged, and once we both agreed to take rejection completely off the table, we found that we are really good at being one another’s “safe place” to have heated or difficult conversations.Instead of Theo flying out to Texas, Paige decided that we should go back to Blue Moon together. She arranged for other wedding planners to handle all of her Texas weddings except for Moira and Duncan’s. She understandably wanted to keep their wedding, but everything left to do could be done remotely until the weekend of the wedding itself. Once we are a bit more settled, she plans to open a part-time wedding planning business just outside Blue Moon territory.... at which she wil

(Paige POV) Neither Jason nor I said anything to each other on the way home from the bakery. It was just as well. Thankfully, Moira did not seem angry about Duncan and Jason leaving… and we were able to successfully pick flavors for their wedding cake… but the whole thing was still embarrassing and unprofessional. The moment we walked into my apartment, Jason headed to the kitchen. He peeked inside the refrigerator and calmly asked me what I wanted to eat for dinner. “Really? That is the first thing that you are going to say to me? Not ‘I’m sorry for embarrassing you,’ or ‘I’m sorry for having my head up my a— since you got back’ or ‘How did the rest of your tasting go? I hope I didn’t cost you a couple of clients.’ Hell, at this point, I’d even take ‘Hey, Baby, I’m craving tacos, does that sound good to you?’” “Why do I feel like you are itching for a fight, Paige?” “Maybe because I am, Jason! I cannot live this way anymore!!!” Jason turned around and glared at me. “Liv

  • My Mate's Wedding Drama    Chapter 108: Jason & Duncan

(Paige POV)So it turns out that Jason not only upgraded my flight to first-class… he booked himself a ticket as well. Jason explained that he had decided that he was going to go where I went for the rest of my life… or until I rejected him for the third and final time. He also told me that his plan was for Theo to stay with Jason’s parents for the first couple of weeks, and then —if I had not kicked him out yet— Theo would come and join us.But for everything else, I probably would have found Jason’s decision to come to Texas with me to be a really sweet gesture. However, over the next week, Jason’s behavior continued to be bizarre. Worse, his constant presence began to feel suffocating and overwhelming. Even Carly, who loved having her mate nearby, was becoming concerned.Among other weird things, Jason:—continued to insist on making me breakfast in bed every. single. day. I could not even grab a piece of toast or a granola bar without Jason freaking out. —refused to disagree

  • My Mate's Wedding Drama    Chapter 107: The De-Brief

(Paige POV) As I get on the airplane, my heart feels heavy. I know that I need to get back to Texas, but even after spending the morning talking to Jason and most of the afternoon de-briefing with everyone else, things still just feel… unsettled. I had hoped that talking to Jason would give me some better insight on our relationship… but more than anything, this morning felt…. awkward. In addition to bizarrely shaving his head and insisting on serving me breakfast in bed, Jason spent almost the entirety of our conversation either apologizing or agreeing with everything that I said. It sort-of felt like I was talking to a wall; the normal, opinionated Jason was not there. As much as the normal, opinionated Jason irritates me at times, I could not help but wonder where he was. I definitely like the normal Jason better than the shell of a wolf that he was this morning. Oh, well. At least if I am going to have a heavy heart on my flight back, I will be comfortable. (Somehow, my

  • My Mate's Wedding Drama    Chapter 106: Big News

(Cassie POV) I wake up to Josephine’s voice in my head. “Cassie, Sweetheart?” I moan. “I am sleeping. What is up, Josephine?” “It is one o’clock the afternoon.” “One in the morning?” I respond back groggily. “No, Sweetheart. It’s the middle of the afternoon.” “That’s not possible,” I groan. “We did not get home until five o’clock.” “Five o’clock yesterday, Baby.” Realization hits me. I must have been more tired than I realized. The last thing I remember was having a hot shower with Aaron, eating more food than I want to admit to eating, having a second round with Aaron in our bed, and then asking Aaron if we could talk after a took a quick nap. Apparently that nap was the longest nap ever. I try to stretch my arms, but one arm hits something hard. I blink open my eyes and see Aaron laying on his side, with one arm supporting his head as he stares at me. He smiles as soon as our eyes meet. “Good morning, Sweetheart,” he says. “Good morning, Aaron,” I smile back at

  • My Mate's Wedding Drama    Chapter 105: Reunion, Part 2

(Paige POV) When we finally made it back to Blue Moon, my emotions were a muddled mess: —I was relieved to be back. —I was happy to be alive and unharmed. —I felt both sad and betrayed about everything involving my sister. —I was horrified about having watched my sister be murdered in front of me. —I was scared and nervous to see Jason again, after having rejected him for the second time less than a week ago. —I was still upset with Jason for having knocked up my best friend. —I was still in shock that Granny Apple played a role in Sarah getting pregnant. Complicating my mess of emotions even more was the reality that I was hungry, dehydrated, and exhausted. When I saw Aaron race from the packhouse to greet Cassie, my heart felt happy for the two of them… and a little jealous too. I could not help but wonder if Jason and I would ever get to that point, or if my happiness —like that of Aaron and Cassie— would be found in the arms of a second chance mate. Carly growled in

  • My Mate's Wedding Drama    Chapter 104: Reunion, Part 1

(Aaron POV) As soon as I heard that Cassie was at the border, I took off running. I shifted into my wolf in order to run faster, not caring that I was shredding my clothes in the process. I did not bother to mind-link anyone; I knew my father would do so. All I cared about was getting to Cassie. I reached Cassie within just a few minutes. I was vaguely aware that Paige, a baby, and a few of our border guards were standing nearby, but no one else mattered to me in that moment. I quickly shifted back to my human form and wrapped Cassie up in my arms. I am not ashamed to admit that —as I clung to her as though my life depended on it— I buried my head in her neck and cried. They were happy tears, but tears all the same. For her part, Cassie clung to me just as much if not more than I clung to her. I could feel her tears on my bare shoulder, so I knew she was crying just like I was. After a couple of minutes, I finally —although reluctantly— pulled away from her just a little bi

(24 hours earlier)(Cassie POV)“I… I have so many questions,” I tell Bobby after listening to his story.“I do, too,” Paige whispers. I glance at her and can tell that she is in shock. So much of what she has thought and believed for the past several years has been turned upside down in the matter of a single 10-minute conversation. “I’ll answer what I can until Shelly gets here.”“After all Shelly and the Moonlight Six did to you… why are you dating Shelly?”“Keep your friends close; your enemies closer,” Bobby responds as though it is nothing.“Don’t you feel like you are… cheating on your mate?” Paige asks.If my handcuffs would allow it, I would reach over and slap Paige upside the head. Seriously, that was the first question she asked Bobby? I remind myself that she is in shock and going through a lot, but I also chuckle a little bit as I realize Jason would likely have asked the same question.Instead of answering Paige, Bobby growls angrily. Paige seems to realize her
