Xavier’s POV

As the last guests drifted out, their laughter fading into the cool embrace of the night, I turned toward Hannah. Her smile was still there, soft and steady, but her eyes betrayed her—a shadow lingering in their depths. The kind of shadow I’d learned to recognize.

“You were incredible tonight,” I murmured, stepping closer and wrapping my arms around her. My voice was gentle, a thread meant to pull her into me. “Everything was perfect, thanks to you.”

Her lips curved faintly, but the warmth didn’t quite reach her eyes. “I’m glad you think so,” she said, her voice calm but thin, as if she’d spent the last of her energy on the evening.

“Hannah,” I pressed, brushing a stray curl from her cheek. “Are you sure you’re okay? You’ve seemed... distracted.”

Her lips curved again, a shadow of her usual warmth. “I’m fine, Xavier. Just tired, that’s all.”

I didn’t believe her, but I nodded, not wanting to push her in the middle of our farewell to the guests. Still, a pang of unease lod

The faint scent of jasmine lingered in the crisp morning air, teasing my focus.Ahead, she approached the elder’s quarters, and my heart thudded as I recognized the destination—her mother’s residence. At the door, she hesitated, glancing briefly over her shoulder. My pulse quickened as I pressed myself against the rough bark of an oak tree. If she sensed me, she didn’t let it show. Instead, she knocked softly, and after a pause, the door opened. Her mother’s warm, melodic voice greeted her.“Vivian, darling!” Her mother embraced her with genuine affection, her laugh light and musical.“Mother,” Vivian replied with a small smile, her tone betraying no tension.I exhaled slowly, relief washing over me. Maybe I’d been too quick to assume she was off to see someone else. The quiet suspicion that had gnawe

The sound echoed like a heartbeat in the stillness.A moment passed. Then another. The door creaked open, but it wasn’t the young servant I expected. Instead, an elderly woman stood before me, her honey-colored eyes glinting with sharp intelligence. Her expression was unreadable, though a faint air of disapproval clung to her posture as her gaze swept over me.Her voice was calm, yet it carried weight. “Can I help you?”“I’m here to see Elder Elijah,” I said quickly, the words tumbling out before I could second-guess myself. VIVIAN’S POVI gasped, my chest tightening as air caught in my throat. My eyes darted to Elder Elijah, searching his face for any hint of humanity, any shred of doubt—but his expression was carved in stone: cold and unyielding. The thought of killing a child horrified me. I hated Hannah, yes, with every fiber of my being. But killing an innocent child? My conscience recoiled in revulsion.“No,” I whispered, shaking my head. “That’s not possible.”Elijah’s unyielding expression locked onto mine. “It’s necessary,” he countered, his eyes glinting with cold determination.“Necessary to kill a child?” The words left my lips in a trembling whisper, each syllable heavy with disbelief. My stomach churned violently. “No… I can’t. I won’t.”Elijah’s gaze pierced me, sharp and predatory, daring me to flinch. His tone was devoid of compassion—a blade wrapped in ice. “You misunderstand, Vivian. It’s not a matter of want. It’s a matter of survival. That child’s very existence is a threat to everyth

EVA’S POVAs soon as Vivian walked out, the heavy wooden door to the study clicked shut behind her. The sound echoed in the stillness of the room. I waited a beat, then stepped out from my hiding spot behind the massive bookshelf, the scent of old leather and parchment still clinging to me.Elder Elijah stood by the desk, his arms folded, his sharp eyes locked on the door. His face was a portrait of calculation—cold and meticulous.“Do you think she’ll agree to do it?” I asked, my voice barely audible, almost swallowed by the tension in the air.He turned slowly, his gaze meeting mine. His expression didn’t soften. If anything, the shadows in his eyes deepened.“That remains to be seen,” he said. “But make no mistake—Xavier’s heir won’t live to see the next moon. Not if I have anything to say about it.”The sheer conviction in his voice sent a shiver down my spine, one that wasn’t entirely fear. A wicked thrill coiled in my chest, twisting into excitement. The sweet scent of blooming wildflowers lingered in the air, carried by a gentle breeze that rustled the edges of the woods.Crickets chirped in harmonious rhythm, and in the distance, a lone wolf’s mournful howl echoed faintly. XAVIER’S POVThe security check was done. Every patrol was synchronized, and every entry point sealed. On paper, it was flawless. But the quiet—the fact that it was suddenly so quiet—unsettled me. I wished I knew what Ross was planning, but for the past few days, there had been no sign of him or his men anywhere near our pack.Silence from him wasn’t peace; it was a coiled spring, ready to snap. My fingers twitched as I pulled out my phone and dialed Taylor. Hannah and Jackson’s faces flashed in my mind, and my chest tightened painfully.“Alpha,” Taylor answered, her voice crisp and no-nonsense.“How is my family?” I asked, my tone clipped, betraying none of the storm inside.“They’re fine,” she said steadily. “Luna Hannah took Jackson to school. We’re back now. I’ve got eyes on her. Nothing’s out of place.”I exhaled slowly, the tension in my shoulders easing just a fraction. “Good. Stay sharp. If anything changes, you call me.”“Always,” she replied, her voice softening just enough

My heart pounded so hard I could feel it in my throat.Hannah sat on the edge of our bed, her arms wrapped tightly around herself, her eyes locked on me. Those eyes—deep, warm, and usually so full of life—were now clouded with worry. She was waiting, and I hated that I was about to break her heart.“Hannah,” I began, my voice low and rough, like gravel. The words felt stuck, as if they didn’t want to come out. But they had to. She deserved to know. “There’s something I need to tell you… something I should’ve told you a long time ago.”Her brow furrowed, and I saw the flicker of fear in her eyes. She shifted slightly, her fingers digging into her arms. “What is it, Xavier?” she asked, her voice soft but trembling. “You’re scaring me. Just say it.”I couldn’t stand still. Their movements were sharp and purposeful, sending a chill skittering down my spine. What’s going on? My mind raced, each thought more frantic than the last. Were we under attack? Was someone coming for us?Xavier had left before breakfast, his absence like a gaping hole in the room. I’d been missing him more lately than ever. Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones, or just this nagging feeling that something was wrong—something I couldn’t quite put my finger on yet.Having him around calmed me down a lot, and when he wasn’t here, everything felt chaotic. I hated how much I relied on his presence to feel safe, but right now, his absence was a gnawing reminder that something was off.“Mama!” Jacks

COBY’S POVMy heart dropped the moment Elijah’s face changed. The calm mask he’d been wearing earlier slipped, and a slow, icy smile spread across his lips. And for a second, I thought I’d misheard him, but his next words made every hair on the back of my neck stand straight.“I’m not going to help you,” Elijah said, his voice flat and empty. The warmth I remembered—the camaraderie, the shared purpose—was gone. “In fact, I can’t wait to see Ross take down every single one of them.”My hands balled into fists, nails digging into my palms, as my mind scrambled to make sense of what he was saying. “What—what the hell are you talking about?” My voice cracked, a mix of disbelief and anger bubbling up in my chest.I was this close to snapping at him but I clenched my fists tighter, trying to keep myself grounded. I exhaled, relieved, though my heart was still pounding in my chest.Ross turned to Elijah, his tone shifting to something more private, more serious. “We have things to discuss,” he said, glancing at me as if I were suddenly an outsider.I tensed, curious about what they needed to talk about. Whatever it was, I needed to know. But before I could say anything, Ross looked at me sharply. “Excuse us, Coby. This is between Elijah and me.”I nodded stiffly, swallowing the bitter frustration that rose in my throat. I had no choice. “Of course, Ross,” I said, bowing my head before turning and walking out.The door closed behind me with a heavy thud. I leaned back against it, pressing my ear against the wood.
