VIVIAN’S POV

I pulled up to my mother’s house, feeling the weight of the past week pressing down on me. The familiar walls promised some relief from the storm brewing between Coby and me. But as soon as I spotted Hannah’s car in the driveway, my stomach twisted. Why was she here?

Stepping out, I considered leaving, but my pride kept me rooted in place. This was my mother’s home, not hers.

Pushing open the front door, I was greeted by my mother’s warm, delighted smile. “Vivian, darling! Come in, come in.”

I forced a smile and scanned the room. Hannah sat on the couch, her posture relaxed, her expression smug. She didn’t even try to hide her satisfaction at my discomfort.

“Mother, what’s going on?” I tried to keep my voice steady, but it held a hint of frustration.

Before my mother could respond, Hannah jumped in, her voice laced with mock sweetness. “Oh, relax, Vivian. I just came to visit Mother. If I’d known you’d be here, I’d have picked another day.”

But… it’s worse than you thought.”My heart dropped, and my voice came out as barely a whisper. “You’re sure?”She nodded, her gaze steady. “I’ve seen them together, and I’ve heard things. There’s… a plan. A plan to bring you down.”A smile tugged at the corner of my lip. “That’s not true. I mean, Coby wouldn’t dare,” I said, but my voice sounded small and unconvincing, even to my own ears.“Well, that’s where you’re wrong. Coby’s already picked a side—and it’s not yours, dear Vivian.”I stared at her, feeling as though the ground was slipping away beneath me. “But… why? What does he stand to gain?”Eva’s face was grave. “It’s about his son, Vivian. Coby has a lot to gain by staying close to Hannah’s child, who is also his.”My world crumbled. What child was she talking about? Coby’s child with Hannah? What sort of sick joke is this?I felt hollow, as if something c

VIVIAN'S POVI entered the house, and there he was—Coby, standing by the window, shoulders stiff, gaze unfocused. He didn’t turn as I approached, but his body language spoke volumes. Guilt rolled off him like a sour scent.“Vivian,” he said, his voice cracked and low. He glanced at me, eyes pleading. “I... I can explain.”“Explain?” I spat, cutting him off sharply. “Explain how you planned to betray me?” My voice dripped with bitterness that had been festering inside me. “How dare you even think of stabbing me in the back… for her.”He flinched as though I’d struck him. His face paled, then his jaw clenched in a poor attempt at control. “Who told you that?” he demanded, trying to maintain a shred of composure. But I could see right through him; he was crumbling.A bitter laugh escaped me. “Don’t play innocent. After all we’ve done together? Don’t insult me.”His eyes darkened, a flash of anger twisting his features before fear settled back in. “Vivian,” he began, his voice low, almost

Doubt snaked its way into my thoughts, unsettling me, stirring up a confusion I’d buried deep.Had I really been so blind all this time? Or was it simply desperation—a need to believe Jackson was mine? Was it pride, blinding me to the manipulations Hannah might have spun?Andrew’s face surfaced in my mind, the haunted look in his eyes that night. Andrew wouldn’t lie to me, would he? I replayed every detail, the tension in his voice, the flash of fear as he spoke of secrets too heavy to carry. But then… there was Hannah. Had she deceived me all along?Driven by a need to end the torment, I tracked her down. She was in the Pack’s communal area, laughing easily with the women and children, her face relaxed, her movements so natural that it felt surreal. XAVIER’S POVI leaned back in my chair, scanning the map of our territory spread across the table. Afternoon sunlight slanted through the window, casting shadows across Kas’s face, his features lined with tension.“Alpha, our patrols reported increased rogue activity along the eastern border,” Kas said, his voice low but tight with worry.I nodded, my fingers tapping against the chair’s armrest as I ran scenarios in my mind. “Double the patrols. I want eyes on every inch of that border, around the clock. We can’t afford to let them get through.”Kas nodded, already scribbling notes in his worn leather notebook. “I’m on it, Alpha. But this can’t go on forever,” he added, his voice a little softer. “We keep reacting to their moves instead of taking control.”I rubbed my jaw, the rough stubble scraping my palm. “You’re right. Let’s bring in the warriors for a strategy session. We need to start anticipating, not just responding.”Kas’s mouth twitched into a faint smile. “I’ll set it up,”

My hand reached up to my neck, rubbing the sore skin where his fingers had gripped so tightly. How could he? My heart pounded, disbelief and fury flooding every corner of my mind. Xavier had known all along—everything I had revealed about Hannah, my plan to expose her, had meant nothing to him. He wasn’t angry with her; his rage had turned on me instead.“Why?” I muttered, my voice trembling as I stepped into the late afternoon sun. It was blazing, sweltering, but I hardly felt it over the numbness spreading inside me. Why was he protecting her? How could he still want her, even knowing she had given birth to another man’s child? My phone buzzed, snapping me back to the moment. I fished it out, seeing Vivian’s name light up the screen."Eva!" The confrontation with Coby still replayed in my mind, like a thorn I couldn’t pull out.How could he even think I’d lie about my own child? The sting of his accusation made my skin crawl. If it were up to me, he never would’ve known about Jackson at all. He’d said he wouldn’t be long, but the silence of the empty apartment felt heavy. My fingers hovered over my phone, tempted to call, when Jackson stirred against me, letting out a soft whimper.“What’s wrong, sweet boy?” I whispered, rocking him gently. “Are you hungry?”He relaxed again, his little mouth forming a tiny “O” as he drifted back to sleep. XAVIER’S POVWhen I walked in with Jackson in my arms, I half-expected to find Hannah where I’d left her—probably curled up in bed, either crying or staring at the ceiling in exhausted silence. Instead, the sharp, rhythmic sound of a knife against the cutting board greeted me.She stood at the kitchen counter, sleeves rolled up, dicing vegetables with a precision that bordered on mechanical. I stopped in the doorway, the sight hitting me harder than I expected. Her movements were smooth but rigid, her shoulders tight, her jaw clenched. She wasn’t just cooking dinner—she was trying to hold herself together, gripping that knife like it was the only thing tethering her to the ground.I set Jackson in his high chair by the table. He giggled, his little legs kicking with unfiltered joy.“Stay here, buddy,” I whispered, brushing a hand over his soft curls. As I moved closer to Hannah, I softened my footsteps. She didn’t look up, didn’t even acknowledge me. Her focus was unyielding, each cho

HANNAH’S POVTwo days later, the Shadow Moon Pack gathered beneath a gray, brooding sky, heavy with unshed rain. The damp earth clung to our boots as if nature itself shared in our mourning. Grief hung thick in the air—almost tangible—pressing down on every chest, every breath. We hadn’t yet recovered from Ella’s death, and now we stood here again, burying Cecilia. The ache was relentless, a gaping void that refused to be filled. The whispers about Vivian’s death had not died down. They lingered, a low murmur of unanswered questions and unspoken fears. Her mysterious and unresolved passing hovered like a ghost at the edges of our collective mind. No one dared speak of it during the ceremony, but I saw it in their eyes—a quiet unease weaving through the crowd like a thread pulled too tight.I stood at the head of the grave—Cecilia’s grave. Her name felt foreign and jagged in my mind. As the only family she had left, the task of leading the rites fell to me. My voice didn’t waver as I s

The doctor’s words replayed in my mind, relentless and cold: Her heart is getting weaker. What if she woke up and I wasn’t there? What if the moment I left, she slipped away? The thought clawed at me, suffocating. So I stayed rooted by her side, refusing to move an inch. The dim hum of the monitors was both a comfort and a threat, the steady rhythm of her heartbeat a fragile promise. I watched her chest rise and fall, willing each breath to continue. Her skin was pale—translucent almost—as though the light of life inside her was dimming.By morning, exhaustion wrapped around me like a heavy coat. I rested my head on the edge of her bed, the blanket warm and worn beneath my cheek. "You don’t scare me," I hissed. "You’re nothing but a coward hiding behind your power.
