Ember's POV. He freezes at my words but at this point, I do not care anymore. What I cared about the most is that there must be something that would stop him from killing an innocent man. Moreover, why wasn't he killing Elise for agreeing to sleep with the warrior instead of making a mess of himself thinking that he was doing the right thing? I stared at him as a vein threatened to pop out of his neck. He was going to kill me already but I didn't mind. "See, let's find a way around it. I'm not sure that Elise would be happy that you're about to kill her fiance or whatever they are right now. I don't want you to think about it this way." Trent stormed off and I sighed tiredly, this was a great problem that I didn't know what to do about it. " Trent, wait!" I called and followed after him but stopped abruptly when I saw him glaring at me. I didn't want to push it so I just had to stop. I went back to the warrior who was bloodied, unable to do anything and I stared at him tiredly.
Ember's POVI was annoyed by Greg's stubbornness. I'd never seen someone so out of touch with reality but I made a decision that I wouldn't argue with him one bit. He needed someone to explain to him that he couldn't rule this pack. Maybe we would have to wait for his sister, Elise, to talk to him. Anyway, it was their family and I was ready to leave it to them however they pleased. I marched upstairs ignoring them completely. The headache had assaulted me again and I needed to rest. Taking a glance at my phone I discovered that it was almost eight p.m and I lay in bed slowly drifting into sleep. At midnight, the rumbles of my stomach woke me up and I immediately rose from the bed. Dry mouthed, I didn't waste time going downstairs, I headed straight to the kitchen and retrieved a bottle of water from the fridge. After that, I turned to the door ignoring my rumbling stomach.I heard the creaking sounds of the door and I peeped. it was none other than Greg trying to sneak in. Wasn't
Xander's POVYou're not even listening to me and I hate it. Why would you be making me feel as if I'm disturbing you?" Ellie thundered from the doorway, disrupting my attention.I stared at her in annoyance. She was fond of grating on my nerves. In my entire life I had never seen anyone who was so committed to making me annoyed. It seemed like that was her speciality. Always nagging profusely and I didn't want to say anything that would result in her crying profusely as though I had wronged her beyond measure."What is the problem this time?" I replied. She wouldn't allow me to have time for something else anymore. "Do you need anything?" I asked again."You're seeking a way to discard me stylishly. That isn't what marriage is all about." I sighed. I was about to be subjected to another bout of nagging. "Are you kidding me right now? This is unacceptable. I can't imagine what you just sit down and come up with. This nagging has to stop." I burst out angrily. The room went silent and
Xander's POV"What do you mean that my ship capsized at the edge of Trent's pack? That's impossible. It wasn't supposed to take that route.""Ehm... alpha Trent, we heard that someone had taken a detour but we don't know if it's willing or not though but we suspect that it was forceful. The issue now is that we can't confront him." My hands vibrated at the words. I didn't want a situation whereby one would have blood on his hands. Trent had done this no doubt, his reason, I didn't know. It was probably to get back at me for taking his girlfriend a few years ago."What the fuck? It better not be him because all hell would break loose. Well we can't know that yet unless we go to the site. Who called you? Are you there currently?" I asked. The man paused deeply. " Well, according to the information reaching me right now, I hear that the ship caught fire and people are jumping out." I paused too. This was not making any sense. A ship that capsized also caught fire. "Are you sure it's m
Xander's POVWhat the hell is going on here?" I asked warily as I walked down the stairs, seeing them standing with their throats close to each other. They were really on a roll and I wondered what caused this problem in the first place. " What is going on?" I repeated.Ellie suddenly stared at me and began to sob. I rolled my eyes and Grace followed suit. " She tried to kick me. I don't know what I did to her to deserve all of these harsh treatments. It's very annoying. She has been doing this for the longest time and I don't know what to do." She complained.I stared at Grace. It was evident that she didn't like Ellie but going as far as kicking her, that was a farce. " I don't believe that story. Tell me what really happened." She stared at me in horror but I didn't feel anything. I wasn't going to make her cause me to make the mistake I made by sending Ember away. It was one of the worst mistakes of my life though. " Tell me what happened." I repeated."I can't even believe this
Ember's POVI was not even worried about all the things that had happened in the last few days because I was just busy lounging around. I didn't know how the brothers managed to settle their disputes, I only knew that Greg had been living in the house with us but he was moody, refusing to talk to anyone and I couldn't care more. "I am going out today. I need to check out some boat or ship that was rumored to capsize in our waters close to the border." Trent said, while adjusting his collar. He looked good though.I didn't know that there was a sea around the pack area. "A sea right?" " Yeah, it's usually our port route. It's a major source of income too." " And a source of danger. Enemies could easily sail in from the port." Trent chuckled and kissed my forehead. " I don't understand you. How do you even come up with these things? We don't allow unusual movement. There are also guards stationed there who are more deadlier than these ones in my pack and they are focused unlike the
.Ember's POV"Angry? About what exactly I might add because I'm a bit lost right now and I'm thinking about another reply. You are just something else." I replied to her immediately. There was no reason why these men behave the stupid way they did except for the fact that people enabled them."Wait, it's not that serious love. I swear, it's not that serious. I was just thinking about it. I think he's as angry about his goods as he should be. He's not coming here to fight you or anything like that. Although my father would want that. Oh boy, I don't know what that man wants from us though." She muttered.I sighed in response. If Xander was planning to come try some shit with my new pack, I was more than ready to send him the hell away. It wouldn't cost me a second. "You were already worked up. I guess you're in love with this man now." She stated. An unobservant fellow wouldn't realize the amount of hurt in her tone. Probably because they didn't know her better but I saw through the
Ember's POVSurfing through the net seemed to be my best companion lately because it kept my sanity in check. Boredom was a disease that could even lead to depravity. How was I supposed to stay in this big house alone without talking to anyone for a whole week without losing my mind? Whenever Trent returned, he was already beat and didn't have the time to strike up a conversation with me. The two brothers were just polite to me and minded their business. Elise was a different ball game entirely. She was still keeping malice with me as if I was the one who made her brother take that irrational step. I wasn't in the mood to start begging someone to see things my way when there were other things I could do with my time. One of which was my newly found passion for knitting. I watched several videos about it and was confident in my abilities. I could do anything that I set my heart to do.I quickly switched off the light and adjusted on my side because it was getting very close to the du
Ember squealed. "You're a naughty boy." She replied when Xander took her inside the shower. "We are too old to be having these sessions." She replied. Xander didn't think that anything was wrong with him wanting to have an alone time with his lovely wife so he smiled at her. Ember smiled at him. "I'm sorry, I was just kidding." She told him.His eyes crinkled with mirth. "I know, right. I don't even care about what you want to say but I believe that you will enjoy today's session. It promises to be mind-blowing." He bragged. She smiled at him while stroking his beards playfully. "Do you even know what this means?" She teased him.Xander peeled off the dress from her shoulders quietly and stared at her figure. "You look exquisite. I don't think I've seen anyone like you." He muttered softly while smacking his lips for effect. She rolled her eyes at his words. He would say anything just to have his way with her. "What do I expect? It's been almost twenty years." She complained.Xande
Sixteen Years Later, Dennis bounced into the room dripping with sweat and ran down to the kitchen to get a bottle of water from the fridge but met a restriction. He looked up and saw his twin brother staring at him with a glare. "Take a shower instead, you'll feel calm." He said.Dennis went mute for a minute before throwing a punch at him but his brother was faster and had predicted the move so he ducked at the last minute."Get away from the fridge, both of you!" Ember yelled and they jumped apart. She saw that they were mad at each other which made her worried. "You too are supposed to have each other's backs not be a thorn in each other's flesh." She whispered. She was trying so much to raise children who were devoid of hate and malice. The Alpha position was an edgy one which she hoped that they didn't fight each other for but coexisted perfectly together. "Why do you feel the need to show your powers when you are supposed to be each other's best friends?" She demanded The
Three years later"Mummy, can I have a taste now?" One of the boys asked and Ember shook her head, looking down at him with a smile as he had his hands around her legs."Don't be such a baby. It's not ready yet," His twin replied, rolling his eyes as he crossed his arms. The one who had his hands around Ember's leg, shot his brother a glare."Well, I wasn't talking to you" He snapped and Ember downplayed a smile threatening to form on her lips. She stirred the pasta, before turning around to face the boys just in time, when her favorite head came into her view.Xander's hair was disheveled and sticking out. He looked like he just walked out of the shower. He rounded the counter, wrapping his arm around her waist, pulling her flush against his body."This smells delicious," He closed his eyes, taking a sniff. His stomach growled in response and Ember laughed."Easy there, big boy. Soon" She muttered.Xander leaned into her, brushing his lips against the shell of her ears."But taste be
Ember's POV. A pang of headache hit me as I felt my eyes open, my legs shaking beneath my gown. Everywhere seemed black, but the sun rays through the barred hole on the door shone brightly. I strove to stand up, taking what felt like an eternity to raise a leg. Something that felt like shaped iron clashing against each other rang in my ear, and I felt compelled to know what was happening outside. I sprinted toward where the backdoor was, my legs shaking after every step, my heart racing faster with every step I took. The sound of crashing iron and steel and the rise of cries grew closer and thicker with every step I took. I had no idea what was happening outside, all I sought was to escape from this dungeon. Most of the guards were distracted by what was happening outside, none were looking my way. I guess it was lucky, and a chance for me to escape. I walked toward the exit door, but just as I reached there, the roar of a wicked smile halted me in my spot, and I was force
Xander's POV. I was seated in my palace when an emissary holding a sealed letter was brought before me by one of my pack guards. As the emissary approached, I could sense a mix of curiosity and unease from my pack members "Greetings, Alpha Xander. I bring a message from Trent's pack." He fretted going down by reclining his head onto his knees. I took the letter, breaking the seal. My eyes scanned the parchment, and my gut twisted with every word. Trent was declaring war on us. I called a gathering with my elders. We sat in a circle, the letter passed among us. "This is madness," One of them growled. "Trent knows we won't back down." "We need to prepare for battle," Another suggested, her voice steady. "Gather our strongest warriors, Xander. We'll show Trent the strength of our pack." "I'll start scouting for allies. We can't face Trent's pack alone." I looked at my elders, determination burning within me. "We'll defend our pack" The elders nodded in unison, and I k
Ember's POV I walked down the hallway slowly, this part of the house seemed to be more empty than the path I walked through once I reached the end of the house. I frowned wondering what wild goose chase Ellie sent me on. Xander wasn't here. Why would she send me here for no reason had she completely lost it? angry I turned to leave when I spotted Trent standing there with a wicked smile on his face, holding a sword. My stomach dropped knowing there was no way this was going to end well. “Trent! What are you doing here?” He smirked, the glint of the sword reflecting in the fading light. “Hello, Ember. Fancy meeting you here.” I took a step back, feeling panic rising. “Where’s Xander? He’s supposed to be here, did you do something to him?” Trent chuckled, his voice dripping with malice. “Oh, Xander isn’t coming. Ellie sent you her for me. I’m the one you’re dealing with.” Realization hit me like a punch to the gut. Ellie must have played me, setting me up for Trent. My instinc
Author's POV. Xander walked hurriedly towards the port. He had booked a safe passage through the tunnel for Ember. It had not been cheap, but he knew it was going to be worth it since he was sure she would appreciate his efforts in helping her get her complete freedom. He arrived at the spot they had both agreed that they would meet. The port was mostly deserted at this time of the day so it was going to be relatively safe and easy for her to wall around without being found by people who work for Trent. He stood around for the next ten minutes, stifling the anxiety that was quickly growing in his chest. After ten minutes, he started to call her name as he looked around the area. It could have been possible that she had missed her way and was staying at another spot instead of the one they had initially agreed to meet. She was supposed to have been here. They had agreed that they would meet at that spot and he had been exactly on time. If there had been any delay or anything t
Ember's POV. I wasn't moved by her words because I knew that I had a higher backing that would help me out when it was time. All she just needed was the go-ahead from me. Then I knew that she would be able to go ahead to focus on getting the answer. I chuckled softly and looked at her. "Did you want us to respect you, Ellie? You should accord yourself some respect." I told her and she looked at me. "Who the hell are you?!" She challenged me. Her eyes flared at me and I smiled at her. "Are you my husband's concubine?" She asked and I held myself from saying just like you were. That would be a big slap on her face which I didn't really mind though. I liked the fact that she was really struggling to make it work. I didn't care about her and all that she was doing. All I wanted to know is that there would be a need for us to just stay for a while and rest before finally talking about our past life. In just a few years she would be controlling the whole arena but if I stood up rig
Ember's POV. I couldn't help but feel very remorseful when he came close to me. I was a bit skeptical in the beginning but after a while I finally realized that there might be something missing which I wasn't taking into cognizance. Xander reclined into the seat as he stared at me but I maintained his glare. He wasn't going to unnerve me. So what if he didn't sleep with her? All of this was still his fault. If he had not taken those steps when he finished getting her pregnant, then maybe I wouldn't resent him this much. "You didn't defend me when I needed you the most, I don't think you remember that incident, or do you?" I asked him and he shook his head. "I don't think I do. Why would I purposely not want to talk to you? I was under an influence and believe me when I say that it's something that I regret till this day because of this now we are in deep shit. Call me sentimental, but as much as I hate this man I don't feel like harming him at least not yet, do you underst
