Amelia was already outside Silvana's house when Silvana pulled into the driveway. Amelia's hair was up in pink curlers, she had a green cucumber face mask on, and even her purple and gold silk pajamas were extravagant. She held two steaming mugs in her hands.

"Oh!" Amelia shrieked gleefully, careful not to spill her drinks. She handed one to Silvana and said, "Pumpkin Spice and Rum lattes that I whipped up in your kitchen, along with a few daiquiris for your father. I figured some rum might help your daddy sleep so we can chat uninterrupted."

They clinked mugs in a cheers to their friendship.

Amelia ran a hand down Silvana's dress, so proud of how amazing Silvana looked. Amelia picked up a trussel of Silvana's strawberry-blonde hair and said, "Your hair's a mess and your makeup is streaked. Am I taking this as a sign that you found Mr. Hunk and spent some quality time together?"

Silvana took a large gulp of the spiked latte and through a foamy smile licked her lips and said, "Yes and no, and it's very complicated. Good, but complicated."

"The best relationships are bred from a few twists and turns, my dear!"

The two walked around the house and inside the screen door of the patched hole in the kitchen. Silvana's father had magically restored most of the heart-shaped hole, though only enough to make a sturdy wall and door that wouldn't blow away in the wind. Silvana figured that because her father was growing weaker each day, he didn't have the strength to fix the wall entirely. Then she figured that if she were around more often and a better witch herself, she may have been able to help him.

Instead, she'd broken the one rule her father asked her to never break, and met with Bruce despite being forbidden not to.

Amelia and Silvana entered the somewhat renovated kitchen and crept upstairs to Silvana's room. On the way they saw Solaris sitting in his armchair by the fire, sipping at his second daiquiri with sleepy eyes, ready to doze away.

Silvana shut her bedroom door behind her and said, "Amelia, you really are the greatest, which is why I can't lie to you, and why I need you to help me with a spell."

Amelia blew heat off her latte, shrugged, and told Silvana, "Honey, you know I'd do anything for you."

Silvana kicked away clothes on her carpeted floor underneath her bed, lifted a candle off the wall, lit it, and began pouring wax in a circle.

"Are you casting something devious?" Amelia asked, taking another candle and helping Silvana complete the circle.

"Yes, a spell to reveal a hidden object," Silvana replied, sprinkling orchid leaves in the middle of the wax. The wax transformed into a circle of blue flames with a hiss, though since Silvana was in control of this spell, focused on how it would bring her closer to Bruce, the flames did not burn the carpet or the walls, and they warmed the room the same way Bruce had warmed Silvana, his large arms nestled on her back, bringing her so close to him their lips almost touched.

"Oh this is juicy," Amelia said.

"We've got to find the potion that will heal a Spirit Scar," Silvana said, holding her hands above the sapphire flames, guiding them. Embers and wisps small as bugs floated around the room and throughout the house. With a flash, the cerulean silhouette of all sorts of objects were revealed through the walls and on every floor of the house.

"Whoa, Silvie," Amelia gasped. "This is some serious spellcasting. I always knew you had it in you, but damn, girl."

But Silvana hardly heard her. She was too deep in concentration, too lost in the thought of picking up where she had left off with Bruce, on top of him and on his bed, feeling him throb and wanting his lips on hers. She remembered when he had stitched her up, his fingers gliding across her smooth skin, and his protective voice ringing out against her father. She wanted to feel Bruce's strong shoulders again and have him over her, taking full control of her body the way he did when he separated her legs apart on his bed.

She'd been so ready.

"He makes me feel cared for," Silvana said, opening her eyes. "And that's why it doesn't matter that he's a werewolf. We'll figure that part out later."

Amelia's jaw dropped and in a whisper she asked, "He's a werewolf?"

"Not only that, Amelia, but he's an Alpha."

"An Alpha is into you? You're a bigger rulebreaker than me!"

Silvana's cheeks went red and she said, "The only thing that stopped us from ripping off our clothes was a call from his sick aunt. If we can find that potion and cure her--"

"Then he'll just have to sleep with you!" Amelia exclaimed, as silent as could be so Solaris wouldn't overhear.

Silvana frowned. "When you put it like that."

Amelia tapped Silvana's shoulder and told her, "I'm teasing! I know exactly how big your heart is. And I can see how in love you are. Let's find this thing."

Dusty pairs of shoes, sets of keys, coins caught underneath furniture, and all sorts of other abandoned objects glowed a bold blue that only Amelia and Silvana could see.

"It should be in a vial or bottle," Silvana said, "so look for the outline of that."

The two searched, pointing to various bottles of old booze that Solaris kept tucked away for special occasions.

"You're not upset that I broke code and want to be with a werewolf?" Silvana asked.

"Oh shush with all that," Amelia said. "This is the first time in a long time where I've seen you at your best. That's what he brings out in you." She sipped some more delicious latte. "And those old codes don't mean much to me anyway. Not when there's hair and nails and clothes. Who could be bothered? It's not worth it for me to be a part of a hate I've got nothing to do with. "

"I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate you," Silvana said.

"That's a two-way street, sister," Amelia said with a satisfied grin. Then she pointed to a glowing object by Solaris in his chair.

"There, Sylvie! Right by your father. In the picture above the fireplace."

The blue flames settled without a single bit of ash on the carpet. The spell was successful, and they had located the potion.

Stealthily, Amelia and Silvana crept downstairs. Solaris was snoozing peacefully, the half-finished daiquiri on a coaster by the easing flames of the fireplace. Silvana pulled the picture of her mother off the fireplace's mantle. In the picture her mother was young and joyous with bounds of hair rolling down her shoulders.

Silvana reached around the frame and tore the tape off quietly, then held the powerful potion in front of her and Amelia. Even from inside the bottle, the golden potion strengthened the two of them, and filled them both with confidence, eagerness, and dedication.

Silvana set the picture back down and Amelia adjusted it slightly so the picture fit exactly in the dusty marks that it had been lifted from.

Just as the two had set the picture back, Silvana's phone started ringing again. The two stormed out and into the kitchen where Silvana answered the number she didn't recognize, hoping that it would be him.

Before anybody greeted her, Silvana asked, "Bruce?"

Solaris stirred in his chair, yawning. The clump of his cane came from down the hall.

"I didn't mean to leave you for so long," Bruce said, filling Silvana's heart with such passion she gripped her phone. "Would you come back to me?"

"Of course, I'll be over soon," she said hastily.

She hung up before Solaris entered the kitchen, and she tucked the potion into the sleeve of her dress.

"And where are you going?" Solaris asked.

Amelia stepped forward. "Another change of plans, Mr. Sparks. Sylvie's coming back to my place." Amelia held up Silvana's arm that didn't have the bottle in it and pointed to her fingers. "She's in desperate need of a manicure, and thankfully she's best friends with the best in the city at them."

A little buzzed, Solaris nodded. "Yes, well, you both be safe and have fun," he mumbled. Solaris returned to his armchair, and right before falling asleep, the thought crossed his mind that maybe Silvana was going to see that man, the Winters boy. The man who had saved her life. The man who was a werewolf.

The werewolf who may just be the cure to his own illness.

Solaris got up again to check on his daughter, but Silvana and Amelia had already left.

The lights were on in Bruce's house, and as Silvana closed the door to her car, she couldn't help but think how Bruce left the lights on just for her, so she could find her way to him. She fixed her hair best she could and Bruce opened the front door, looking fresh and showered in a long flannel, opened shirt, and dark jeans. At the sight of Silvana he smiled and stepped aside so she could enter the house. Silvana touched a soft hand to his chiseled cheek and said, "You look like you've gotten some rest.""Is that right?" Bruce laughed, knowing how busy he'd been. He kept a large hand on her waist while they walked to his room. "I thought you might help me stay up all night."Running a hand over the massive muscles of his chest, Silvana bit her lip. She handed over the potion. "First thing's first," she said, "get this to your aunt."Bruce stared at the potion vial in his palm. He was completely stunned and lost for words. "I wasn't expecting you to get this so soon," he said,

The shower Silvana took in Bruce's house was thrilling. She sensually slid the bar of soap over her luscious skin, and the entire time, locked in the bathroom beside Bruce's room, Silvana felt this hammering in her chest, as if she was seeing into the future, where she and Bruce lived together, married and happy. Silvana dried off and applied makeup from her handbag while peering at Bruce's investigation board. It was clippings from newspapers and articles of murderers and other evil people from the city's history; chief among them, the Axeman from the red lightning that Bruce had saved Silvana from. Across the old sepia photo of the Axeman was a large red X made by a marker on the desk."He must be hunting evil spirits," she thought. "That must be why he was training to become the Alpha," she mumbled to herself, patting her shaved and smooth legs dry.Silvana brushed her hair and dressed herself in the white satin lingerie and stockings on the bed, then slid into her beautiful b

Silvana ran promptly outside, her boot heels clicking as she rushed down the manor's marble steps. Couples sat on the fountain, smoking cigars and sharing kisses. Bruce's truck was still parked."Bruce, where are you?" Silvana shouted into her phone. But she got only a dial tone, and the last noise she heard him make inside was a holler of pain. She hadn't even thought Bruce capable of pain. But where was he? Silvana observed her surroundings. Even outside, the party raged on, and as she fluttered about searching for Bruce's mask from the crowd, she saw a bolt of crimson lightning flicker above a hedge garden and illuminate the side of a well-maintained brown barn. She knew he was inside. Fast as she could and clutching her wound, she moved towards the barn, past the garden of trimmed bushes to resemble men and women on all fours and howling like wolves to the starry sky above her. Silvana unhitched the wooden beam securing the barn doors shut, and she burst through the door

Bruce lunged himself on top of Silvana, covering her body with his. Their chests touched and Bruce clamped his jaw shut and grunted as the Hellhounds clawed at his back. They nipped at Silvana's arms and legs, biting off one of her boots and tearing her stockings. They were completely surrounded by a dozen wolves surging with red lightning, and the spirit of the dreaded and murderous Cecilia Duponte cackled, "The seal has been broken."But it couldn't be. Silvana closed her eyes and screamed as she felt teeth poke little holes in her kicking legs. Her father's seal on the evil spirits had been destroyed, some way, somehow, and their worst nightmare was becoming a reality; Silvana wasn't prepared to defend herself, let alone the people of the city. All the times she skimped her training was now going to cost her the lives of herself and her lover. Her eternal mate. Then Bruce pounded his fists to the mud by her head, and when she opened her eyes, she saw that the whites of Bru

In the two long months after the supernatural attack on the Silverclaw Masquerade, Silvana dedicated herself to her father's harsh training. In the mornings, she would bury her nose in ancient spellbooks, learning the ways of incredible witchcraft. In the afternoons, Solaris lectured on the history of seals and spirits in the city, and in the evenings Silvana practiced rigorous spells until midnight, when she was afforded five hours of rest to do it all over again the next day. She was mentally and physically exhausted, though not enough to stop her from calling Bruce each and every night to be lulled to sleep by his brave tales of fighting the spirits coming from the red lightning. Some nights, she would whisper him to sleep under the cover of her blankets --warm and hidden from the world-- about how she'd like to guide her fingers to the button of his jeans, zip his pants down, and shove his big dick in her mouth and suck. On those sensual nights, Bruce would lay naked in his

Bruce tugged his jeans back on and ripped off his sweat-soaked tank top. He waved a finger at Silvana and said, "I'm serious. Do not move from this bed." Silvana's heart sank at the idea of being exposed to danger while not in any clothes. Bruce stormed out of the house, barefoot, and flung the front door open so hard that it slammed against the front of the house. "State your business here at my home," Bruce said so harshly that the dozen werewolves shuddered. They remained resilient and one strong woman with long, dyed-blue hair and facial piercings defiantly growled, "We've been told that our Alpha is dating some slutty, magic-casting witch."Silvana peered through the blinds over Bruce's bed and her palms started to sweat. Bruce was wildly outnumbered, and there was fury in the eyes of his pack."Such a disgusting relationship would make you unsuitable to be our leader," another werewolf chimed in, crossing his arms and standing strong. But he didn't stand as strong as Br

I knew I needed to be beside you right this moment."She hugged him tightly and said, "I'm so glad you came. My father just hit me."Normally, Bruce would've rushed inside and crushed Solaris. But he knew his temper had been getting the better of him, and he cared more about being there for Silvana than revenge against the old man. "I'm sorry," Bruce said, gently lifting Silvana's face to his. He inspected the red mark on her cheek, and although his stomach rumbled with rage, he planted a delicate kiss right on the mark. The smell of cooked eggs, slabs of bacon, and pan-fried potatoes startled Bruce awake. He thought such amazing food was only a dream, as the time to make such a meal was something he no longer had with all his new responsibilities. Silvana exited the bedroom bathroom with a pink toothbrush in her mouth and her strawberry-blonde hair in a messy top knot bun. She was in a lacy white nightgown and big fluffy pink slippers, and she looked refreshed and well-rested. Bruce smiled. Any remaining tension in Silvana's shoulders after his massages seemed to be gone. Bruce rubbed a knuckle to his eye and stretched widely with his big arms. "Good morning, gorgeous," he said with a massive grin. Silvana dashed back into the bathroom, rinsed her mouth, clinked her toothbrush to the sink and said, "I've got breakfast on the stove for you, handsome." A cooling, tropical breeze blew the leaves of the palm trees overhead, and Silvana stuck her toes in the warm sand as the sun beat down on her. Months later, big bells of silver adorned with blue ribbons rang loudly in the newly refurbished Silverclaw mansion. The mansion was owned technically by the silverclaw kin, but it had become a retreat for vampire, werewolf, and witch alike, and certainly required the aid and unique talent of the three separate species to be rekindled to a state beyond its former glory. Down the winding aisles of mixed company and standing at what had once been a court podium but had since been remodeled into an altar, Bruce stood tall and handsome, his chest out, ready and waiting in a dapper black tuxedo with a black bow tie. His messy brown hair had been cut and trimmed, and his face was clean shaven. He stood with a large smile on his face, though truly he was starting to get worried. Bruce glanced at his silver-strapped watch, then looked out into the stone benches filled with people casually chatting. A firm, supportive hand pressed against the top of his back. "Quit checking that thing,

Solaris grabbed the vampire's wrist and stopped her sword from decapitating Duponte. "This woman," Solaris said very seriously, "Is not the same demon who has caused us all great strife." "You speak nonsense, old man!" the werewolf next to the vampire roared. His claws dripped with Duponte's blood, staining the snow at his hind legs red. "Just because you do not have the strength to finish her does not mean I won't.""Stand down," Bruce said with a chill to his voice. He and Silvana ran over. Silvana knelt and observed Duponte's wounds. "They're bad, but she'll live," she determined. "This woman here is my family," Solaris confirmed to the werewolf and vampire, who looked dubiously at one another. "Any ill intent has been removed from her because of these two talented," Solaris paused for a moment, then addressed both Silvana and Bruce as he said, "children of mine."Bruce smirked, as he'd finally gotten the approval of the father of the woman he loved. On the snowy floor,

Bruce reverted from his massive werewolf form and back into his regular human body. His waist was covered by only the fragments of torn jeans that remained from his transformation, and he and Silvana both smirked to one another, both privy to what needed to be done now that Duponte had revealed her true form, and as the demonic energy continued to corrupt her. "You'll never be strong enough to fight me like that," Duponte angrily hissed at Bruce. Her arms grew thin and long and skeletal. Lightning whipped all around her. "I don't plan on fighting you," Bruce replied calmly and in complete control. He took Silvana's hand. "Are you ready?" he asked her. "Always," Silvana said with a smile that confused and angered Duponte. How were these two so calm in the face of her? It infuriated Duponte, and she unleashed a fierce, howling wheeze. But the truth was, Silvana and Bruce were privy to secrets that Cecilia Duponte were unaware of. It had all been inside of Solaris's journal, w

"Don't you see," Duponte said to Silvana with outraised, welcoming arms, "That I'm not your enemy."Duponte pointed to the goopy mess that was the remains of Kurt. "He, now he, was your enemy. He wanted nothing more but your blood and your father's blood."Getting even closer, Duponte pounded a palm to her chest and continued, "I, your family, want you to thrive." Silvana breathed deeply at the sight of the horrible fate that had befallen Kurt. Her heart was heavy with guilt, and for all the troubles that Kurt's mischief and sin had caused her, she still felt a sense of regret that she was not able to save him when he was in a state of delusion and pain. She stepped away from a small collection of bright orange sludge oozing towards her. Kurt hadn't been a good or decent man, but he didn't exactly deserve this. "Don't feel sympathy for this beast," Duponte said, as if reading Silvana's mind, or perhaps her crestfallen face. "Feel sympathy for your mother, for her sacrifice. For

Though Kurt's roars were strong enough to topple over trees still standing in the forest, Silvana and Duponte both stood their ground as the beast hollered. The rest of those still alive, Solaris, Angus, Amelia, and Bruce were all left frozen by Duponte's unwavering magic. Orange sludge dripped down from the blistering welts lacing Kurt's silver and black furred hide. His once amber eyes flared with the same bright, unhealthy orange. "What the hell happened to him?" Silvana asked. Duponte looked at Kurt with absolute and unequivocal disgust. She said, "He's tried, rather unsuccessfully, to enhance himself with the blood of a witch."With a tilt of her head and sniff from her nose, Duponte inspected Kurt. "Our blood, Silvana, no less, is what he's taken" she sneered. "From your father. And look at what it's done to the mongrel." Kurt howled with a raspy, unearthly voice, and driblets of orange saliva flew from his infected and rotting fangs, leaving behind acidic and flaming

Duponte walked forward leaving fiery steps behind her. A curtain of black and red lightning crackled around her skin, and her smile was both wicked and wide, as if all of Silvana's efforts were nothing more but mere entertainment. Silvana, though, could barely move; she tried to bring herself from her knee to no avail, and with one eye shut and the other squinted, she hazily watched as Duponte smacked away Bruce and Amelia, sending the two barreling into the forest. As much as she wanted to retaliate, Silvana was depleted of energy, and sealing the spirits away had drained her of any remaining magic. Duponte clutched Silvana's face with a single hand, and Silvana felt a burning that was completely unique and unlike anything she ever experienced. The pain was not like when she burned her hands ripping the bindings off of Bruce's arms when he was in her father's basement, but the burning caused by Duponte's touch was raw, unnerving, and rattled her from head to toe. Duponte glared

Solaris reached out a hand to his daughter and shouted, "Silvana!" But it was too late. Silvana was struck with a bolt of lightning before Bruce or Amelia could do anything to stop it. Her body flew into a tree that splintered into sawdust from the impact. "No!" Bruce yelled, running over. Cecilia Duponte's laughter could be heard taunting them from the reddened skies. Bruce charged over to where Silvana had landed but was stopped by the bursting of the witches' sigil. Blue sparks surrounded him though not as fast as the hundreds of hands belonging to the once-sealed spirits. They dragged him into the dark abyss as he thrashed and roared. Solaris did what he could to repel the forces, though in truth it was little. The forces all paused outside of The Forest of the Damned, taking in the thick air that smelled rotten. Most of the trees were dead, black and gray husks ready to teeter over at the next sharp wind, and the few large pines that stood firmly had branches that drooped like wilting flowers, as if the very bark had been poisoned. Lightning roared above the mess of long-dead trees, but it wasn't anything new to Bruce and Silvana, who had been fighting these evils since they had returned. What hit them both differently, though, was that ghastly, heavy air, and with each breath they took it was like swallowing toxins. Everybody felt it, from the witches to the werewolves to the vampires. It was a smell of sour blood that tainted the very grass beneath the snow they all stepped on. Angus held a hand before his mouth and tried not to cough in front of Amelia for fear of seeming weak, but as he plugged his nose, she turned away and hacked into her folded elbow.
