Nicholas Frost, Edward's personal assistant, looked alert as he saw his boss walking down the Quantum building corridor towards his office. Edward had returned from Indonesia a few months ago and decided to resume leading the Martin family's construction and mining company in London. Although he hadn't officially become the CEO, he was already busy with various complex tasks that needed to be completed.
Luckily, Edward had a capable assistant like Nicholas. Besides being intelligent, Nicholas was also highly loyal. He had made countless sacrifices to help advance the company's progress.
"Finally, you're here," greeted Nicholas as Edward stood in front of his office. "Mr. Hans has been waiting for you inside for nearly 30 minutes," he continued.
"Good Lord!" Edward whispered. "I forgot about my appointment with him this morning." He quickly entered the office and approached Hans, who was sitting on the sofa. The big-bodied man looked annoyed after waiting for him for so long.
"No wonder Mr. Alexander is reluctant to appoint you as the CEO," Hans said as he saw Edward settling down on the sofa. "You really don't value time, Ed," he added.
Rather than getting offended or angry, Edward laughed. He knew that Kenzi Osborn's personal bodyguard was genuinely irritated because of his forgetfulness about their appointment.
"I apologize, Hans. It was truly unintentional. I had too much on my mind and completely forgot about our meeting this morning," Edward sincerely apologized.
Hans shrugged. "Forget it. Let's get straight to the point now. What did you call me for? You know I have plenty of work to do. Not to mention the tasks from Kaivan are not easy to handle."
Edward understood exactly what Hans meant. He was Kaivan's right-hand man, just like Kenzi or Kenzi Osborn. Both of them often relied on Hans's ability to solve various problems. Due to his expertise, Edward was now interested in seeking help from the big man. Who knows, after this, the problems he faced might be resolved.
"I want you to investigate a woman named Chloe," Edward replied.
Hans furrowed his brow, staring at Edward as if demanding more explanation.
"Chloe? Is she your latest prey?" Hans asked casually. He spoke without any burden. "You're speaking as if I'm a womanizer, Hans," Edward felt offended.
"Everyone knows who you are, Sebastian Eduardo. So, which artist or model are you dating this time?" Hans retorted nonchalantly. It was no secret that Edward always dated actresses, models, or socialites from the same social class.
"I don't know. I think this woman is not an artist or a model. I'm just curious. Not... not..." Edward shook his head multiple times before continuing his sentence. "I'm not just curious; I really want to know who this woman really is."
Hearing this, Hans became even more puzzled. "Can't you tell the story clearly? How am I supposed to help you if you give me half-baked information like this?"
"The story is quite long, Hans," Edward sighed softly. He seemed reluctant to share the whole story with Hans.
"As long as a memory lane? I'm even ready to listen to it for you," Hans replied, undeterred.
Edward took a deep breath and changed his sitting position from leaning to sitting upright. He then focused his gaze on Hans.
"Well, a few days ago, I met a woman in Liverpool. All I know is her name is Chloe. I have no idea about her family background. Long story short, we had a one night stand. Unfortunately, she turned out to be a virgin. It's not my fault. She was heavily drunk, and even then, she seemed aggressive and took the lead in the act. For a virgin, she was quite skilled. I even felt like I was being raped, Hans."
"Uhukk..." Nicholas, who was standing not far from Edward, looked surprised and even coughed upon hearing his boss's story.
"For real, Ed!" Hans exclaimed. "There's no such thing as a woman raping a man. Especially if the man is you, a playboy." Hans shook his head.
"Good Lord, I'm telling the truth, Hans. I tried to stop her madness, but she didn't care. I could only submit to her control. Luckily, she's very beautiful."
Hans just chuckled and looked at Edward with a scrutinizing gaze. He was somewhat similar to Kaivan, claiming to be a playboy but never bringing women to his bed. Even more so for Edward, as a nobleman, he was very selective in choosing his dating partners. But after hearing Edward's recent confession, Hans became curious about who this Chloe really was. To make Edward surrender and break his own commitment.
"So, what's the problem? Is she pregnant? Asking for your responsibility? Setting you up? Or what?" Hans bombarded him without pause.
Edward sighed, preparing to answer. "Let alone asking for responsibility. I even offered her money, but she flat out refused it. She clearly stated that she's not interested in me at all. Can you imagine how I feel, huh?"
Instead of showing sympathy, Nicholas and Hans burst into laughter together. It seemed like Edward had lost his self-esteem. He was used to being adored by women, but this time he was not even noticed. It was truly a blow to his status as a handsome and wealthy man.
"I'm sorry, Ed. You must feel like you have no value. Imagine a woman who's not interested in the most handsome man in this country. Doesn't that sound ironic?" Hans teased openly.
Edward exhaled a long breath. He was truly frustrated now. Moreover, Hans and Nicholas were not helping but busy laughing at him.
"Oh, come on. I called you here for your help, Hans. Can't you be professional now?"
Hans stopped laughing, his face turning serious. "Alright... alright, forgive me. Now, I ask again, do you have a picture of her? I'll track her down today."
Edward shook his head in response. He didn't even have a picture, let alone her full name. Their encounter was very brief yesterday.
"So, you don't have a picture? Then how am I supposed to find her? I'm not a psychic who can guess, Ed."
Edward sighed softly. "I stayed at Kaivan's hotel in Liverpool yesterday. You can ask the hotel to show CCTV footage. Her face should be clearly visible there."
"Good Lord, you're crazy!" Hans exclaimed. "It's like you're asking me to work extra."
Edward responded to Hans's remark. "Come on, Hans. I know I can rely on you. You've unraveled mafia networks before. Now, I need you to find information about this woman. It's not much compared to your expertise. Don't worry; I'll pay you right away. Just name your price."
Everyone knew who Hans was and what his abilities were. He had been an elite force in the army unit for years before becoming Kenzi Osborn's most loyal bodyguard. He was skilled at tracking and uncovering secrets with ease. Somehow, Hans met Ferdy Osborn, Kenzi's father, and eventually became the most faithful protector of the Osborn family.
Hans leaned forward. "Okay, deal. Give me a maximum of 2x24 hours to find all the information. I'll contact you
Alexander Edgar Martin was enjoying green tea in the CEO's office. Today, he deliberately visited Edward because there was an important matter he wanted to discuss. Accompanied by his bodyguard, he waited calmly while reading a thick book he had brought along.
"Why did you suddenly visit me, Dad?" Edward asked as he entered his office.
Alexander lowered his reading glasses, closed the book he was holding, and looked at Edward, who was now seated in front of him.
"In the near future, I will hold a general shareholders' meeting. There, I will also announce the transfer of the CEO position. And the next step is to announce to the public who the newest CEO of Quantum will be."
Edward gazed closely at his father's face without saying a word. Alexander still looked healthy and fit at the age of fifty. Apart from maintaining a healthy diet, he regularly exercised. However, that was not what was on Edward's mind. When he thought about it again, Alexander was still capable of leading Quantum for another five or even ten years. So, why should Edward rush to replace him?
"I'm asking you to find a potential wife soon, Ed. One of the requirements to be a CEO is for the man to have a companion. If you can't find one yourself, don't blame me for arranging a match for you."
Edward was taken aback by his father's threat. "Why does it have to be this soon? I'm only 30 years old. Isn't it too young to get married at this age?"
Alexander narrowed his eyes. "Then at what age do you want to get married? 40? 50? Or perhaps you're not even marriage material? Just pretending to be a playboy?"
Hearing the mockery coming from his own father, Edward sighed in exasperation. "Good Lord, what kind of father insults his own child like this? You should be proud to have a son as handsome as me, Mr. Alexander."
"Tsk, handsome but not marriage material, it's still useless. What's there to be proud of?" Alexander sneered.
"Oh, my God!" Edward shook his head in disbelief. "You're really insulting me, Dad."
"I don't care, Ed. You must find a potential wife by your mother's birthday party. I'll give you one month. If within that time, you still haven't brought me a prospective daughter-in-law, be prepared to accept whatever decision I make." Alexander was serious this time. He felt he could no longer postpone the transfer of the CEO position.
Meanwhile, Edward remained composed and looked at his father with an incredulous expression. Despite often speaking harsh words, Edward respected Alexander deeply. He had always been his role model and guide in making important decisions. No matter how harshly the old man spoke, Edward was never offended.
"I will try my best. Just pray that when I return, your handsome son will have found a good woman on the side of the road and will be willing to be a potential wife," Edward replied half-heartedly.
Alexander shrugged dramatically. "It's okay. You know, even though we come from a noble lineage, I'm not a picky man. Even if you pick up a woman from the side of the road, it's up to you. You're an adult, Ed. You can differentiate who's good for you and who's not."
Edward swallowed his saliva. Alexander's response had hit him hard. He was well aware that one of the requirements to be a CEO at Quantum was to be married. Of course, his father was concerned. How could he pass on the CEO position to Edward if he was still single until now?
Being too immersed in playing around, he considered marriage not essential. Until he didn't realize that he was no longer young. And now, he was getting into trouble.
Could Edward find a potential wife that met the criteria within a month? Shouldn't that be possible for someone of his Playboy stature?
Ah, suddenly he felt sorry for Richard now. The man was in the same situation as him. Having to find a companion within a month.
No, this wasn't just sorry. It was clearly Edward's karma. Because in the past, he and Kenzi provoked Aunt Cassandra to pressurize Richard to find a potential wife. Now, he felt déjà vu with what he had done in the past.
Edward quickly walked when he heard the doorbell in his apartment ringing repeatedly. Still in his pajamas, he casually opened the door and found a man standing there with an annoyed expression. "Don't tell me you just woke up?" he asked, investigating. "What time are we leaving? You're the one who asked all of us to be there," the man grumbled. Instead of feeling guilty, Edward laughed. "Oh, Rich. Why are you always so easily irritated? I thought after getting married, your temper would go away. But it's still the same," Edward teased. Richard rolled his eyes in exasperation. His patience had run out. "Stop talking. Hurry up and take a shower! I'll be waiting for you in the lobby," Richard said and left without waiting for his friend to respond. Edward and Richard were actually neighbors. Both of them chose the One Hyde Park Penthouse as their residence several years ago. Edward had his reasons for choosing that place. Besides its premium location, the penthouse had fantastic fa
"Finally, I found you." Chloe Hazel blinked her eyes once. She immediately turned around to confirm the owner of that voice. Shortly after, her brow furrowed. A tall man with an athletic body stood before her, smiling mischievously with a hint of teasing in his eyes. Every afternoon, Chloe spent her time specifically at L'Elysee Artisan Cafe and Patisserie. There, she would usually read books while sipping cappuccino, eating salads, or tiramisu. She did this every day without ever feeling the slightest bit bored. Due to this habit, with Hans' help, Edward was able to find her. After nearly forty-five minutes of waiting in boredom, the woman he was looking for finally arrived to take a break. "Why do you look surprised like that? Are you dazzled by my handsomeness?" Edward said, running his fingers through his hair while smiling. "Sorry," Chloe replied. Before continuing her sentence, she scanned Edward from head to toe. Observing his appearance, she spoke again, "We don't know eac

"Chloe... please... help me...""Please find this man for me." The woman's voice sounded hoarse. Her breaths were labored and appeared to be struggling.Chloe leaned in, trying to understand what the woman next to her was saying."Which man? And why should I find him, sis?" she asked, confused. She couldn't grasp the meaning behind Nathalie's words. A teardrop fell from Nathalie's eyelids. She struggled to answer her sister's question, but there was little she could do. Her entire body felt stiff."Because only you can find him," she whispered weakly. This time, Chloe shook her head repeatedly."No! You have to get better and find this man yourself," she firmly refused. She openly declined Nathalie's request. "I don't have much time left..." Nathalie uttered softly, her voice getting weaker."The man's business card is in my purse. Please, find him for me." Chloe reached for Nathalie's wrist, holding it tightly as if afraid to be left alone."Why do I have to find him, sis? Did he c
Edward is sitting in his office chair, carefully reading the report just handed to him by Hans. His forehead furrows as he tries to understand the information on each page he reads. "So, Chloe used to live in the Saint Luca orphanage for years?" Edward looks at Hans as if he can't believe it. A big question mark arises in his mind. Why would someone like Chloe, who is a child of the conglomerate Dylan Arley, spend years in an orphanage? Across from him, Hans nods confidently. "That's what you read. But let me explain in detail so you can understand better." Hans adjusts his sitting position, preparing to give an explanation to Edward. "So, a few years ago, Dylan Arley and Patricia Hazel were forced to divorce for a cliché reason. Dylan's extended family refused to accept Patricia because she came from a lower social class." "You mean they were forced to divorce even though they already had children? Isn't that excessive?" Edward protests. Hans shrugs his shoulders. "From the inform
"Mister, aren't you going home?" Nicholas, who was still in Edward's office, asked. "Don't forget, you have a dinner party with Mr. Alexander tonight."Edward lightly tapped his forehead. "Oh my, I almost forgot." He had been engrossed in chatting with Hans, which made him forget about tonight's obligatory engagement. "Nic, what do you think? Should I still go to the party tonight?"Instead of answering right away, Nicholas chuckled softly. He knew his boss would probably be reluctant to attend such dinner parties. Rather than discussing business, these conglomerate events often turned into a showcase of wealth, something Edward tried to avoid."If you don't want to make Mr. Alexander angry, you better hurry home now. He already reminded you twice today to be present at the event.""I know exactly why that old man is forcing me to go."Nicholas laughed again. "You should be happy, Mister. Who knows, you might find a potential wife there. Remember, the CEO succession is getting closer.
"How? Do you agree to join?"Edward seemed to ponder. The man then brought his eyes to reread once again the cooperation proposal offered by Emaar Properties from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with renowned contractors like Vinci Construction, famous for the Louvre Museum in France, and Mace Construction, the contractor for The Shard London Bridge, the tallest building in the European Union. They invited Quantum for a joint venture in a mega project. As Edward read in the proposal, Emaar Properties intended to construct the longest building in the world. To realize this ambition, Emaar Properties intentionally gathered construction companies from various parts of the world to join."Our team will be even stronger if you participate, Ed. Remember, this project offers a net profit of tens of billion dollars." Thomas, the representative from Mace Construction, spoke again, trying to convince Edward to join.As an established construction company, Quantum's credibility was beyond doubt. Un
Edward drove his Lamborghini Reventon at a moderate and cautious speed, navigating the streets from Knightsbridge to the upscale residential area in Kensington, London. When the car arrived at one of the Neoclassical-styled luxurious houses, a security officer politely assisted him in opening the car door. He then led him inside the house. When the house door opened, a middle-aged man greeted Edward with a wide smile, welcoming his arrival."Finally, you've come, Alexander Junior," Dylan Arley expressed his enthusiasm. He immediately gestured for Edward to take a seat."I could never forget such an important promise, Mr. Dylan.""Ah, you're so formal, Ed," said Dylan. "You can call me Uncle, or even Dad if you like. It's fine."Edward smiled meaningfully at Dylan's offer. It was evident that the middle-aged man hoped that the relationship between Edward and Chloe would go smoothly."Don't exaggerate, Dad."From inside the house, Chloe walked slowly, responding to Dylan's earlier remar
Today was a historic day for Edward Martin. The major project he had been handling for Emaar Properties was finally inaugurated. AlphaBeta had even received an award as the most competent construction company to undertake this prestigious tender.Edward felt truly grateful. He knew that this achievement wouldn't have been possible without the help of the solid team who worked diligently on their tasks. Especially Samuel. Despite being new to the company, he had dedicated all his best abilities to help Edward achieve his ambitions."Thank you, Sam. I didn't make a mistake in choosing you as the head of this prestigious project."Samuel smiled contentedly, feeling proud that his hard work was appreciated."I also thank you, Mr. Martin, for giving me this valuable opportunity. It's rare for a big company to entrust such a project to someone who just joined."His gaze then shifted to the beautiful woman standing next to Edward."Mrs. Chloe also contributed to this success. If she hadn't a
Speaking about marriage will never end. Everyone knows what marriage is, but only a few truly understand the meaning of marriage and life afterward. In essence, marriage is based on love and affection. Both partners must have a strong bond, both physically and emotionally, to navigate married life with loyalty, sincerity, and patience. In the past, Edward never believed in commitment, let alone marriage. He always thought that serious relationships would restrict his freedom and hinder him.Until he met Chloe. He became obsessed with having the woman who had once rejected him. He was determined to marry her, even though they didn't love each other at first. As time went by, genuine love truly blossomed. Not from one side, but from both of them, they fell in love with each other. They needed each other and now didn't want to be apart.God was kind, and after overcoming many challenges that came their way, they were blessed with a baby in Chloe's womb. Edward couldn't wait for the birth
Edward hurriedly ran through the corridors of one of the major hospitals in the middle of London. He had lost count of how many times he glanced at his wristwatch, hoping not to be even a minute late this time. Ever since the incident when Chloe got angry and ordered him to sleep on the couch, Edward made every effort to be punctual. It felt so regretful to miss one night of embracing her.Upon reaching the second floor, he headed straight to a room dedicated to pregnant and nursing mothers. Amidst the sea of mothers, his hazel eyes finally caught sight of his wife. She was a beautiful woman dressed in a navy midi dress, engaging in casual conversation and occasionally laughing with other patients."Sorry if I'm late," Edward said after seating himself right next to Chloe. He was catching his breath from rushing to be by her side on time."No worries, I have two more patients ahead of you in line," Chloe replied. Without being asked, she handed him a bottle of mineral water she had be
During pregnancy, it's common for every woman to experience mood swings, where they can feel extremely joyful and enthusiastic one moment, but also very emotional and sad, even crying over trivial matters. Sometimes, they may not even know the reason for their mood changes.Mood swings during pregnancy are caused by various factors, including hormonal changes, physical discomfort due to bodily changes, and natural worries about facing future life changes. From Edward's encounters with married men, almost all of them mentioned that their wives' moods would improve during the second trimester. However, it seemed not to be the case for his wife. Even as she entered the third trimester, Chloe's mood swings didn't seem to get better; in fact, they were worse than ever. She was more easily offended, cried more often, and even had fits of anger."Mister, you look like someone who's exhausted. If you're not feeling well, you should rest," Samuel said as he entered Edward's office. He had been
On a bright morning, accompanied by birdsong and the still-refreshing air, sat a married couple engrossed in a light conversation. This was actually a result of Chloe's boredom. She realized that her husband might be feeling the same way she did at the moment. So, she took the initiative to invite Edward to relax in a corner of the garden and enjoy the morning air together. It had been seven days since Edward had been under intensive care. The good news was that his condition showed significant improvement day by day. The doctor had even given permission for him to decide when he wanted to go home."Last night, after you fell asleep, Samuel contacted me. He asked for some time to meet with you. There's something important he wants to discuss about some projects currently running at AlphaBeta," Chloe said."Tell him to meet me after work," Edward replied without turning his head. His eyes were focused on the beautifully planted row of flowers not far from where they sat."So, do you wa
Chloe walked clumsily towards the treatment room with a chaotic state of mind and heart. The feelings of love and happiness that she had just experienced were now overflowing, replaced by deep sorrow due to the recent misfortune that befell her husband.Patricia and Liliana were well aware that Chloe was not doing well, and they decided to continue accompanying her. They did this to keep the pregnant woman away from unwanted stress, fearing it might affect the unborn child."It's okay, dear," Patricia reassured when the three of them stood right in front of the room where Edward was being treated. "Believe me, your husband will be fine. Mama is very confident that he will recover soon."Liliana nodded in agreement. Her hand reached out to push aside a lock of hair covering her son-in-law's cheek. The tired and sad expression was clearly evident on her face."Don't be sad all the time. Edward will surely wake up, dear. There's no way he'd willingly leave behind a beautiful wife like yo
After going through many stages of trial for the crimes committed by Damian and Nicholas, today is the scheduled date for the judge's verdict. As victims, Edward and Chloe were asked to be present to listen to the verdict. However, due to Chloe's condition, she was unable to attend, so Edward chose to come alone this morning. Upon arriving at the courthouse, Hans was already waiting for him outside the courtroom. When everyone had gathered and was ready to begin the trial, Edward was asked to enter. "I hope today's verdict meets our expectations, Hans." Hans, who had just taken his seat, nodded. "I assure you, Damian will spend quite a long time in prison. He is entangled in multiple charges for the crimes he has committed." Edward pulled the corners of his lips into a smile. It was not wrong to have chosen Hans to handle the case that was affecting him. "I can't wait to see Damian's expression when he hears the judge's verdict in a moment." After a few minutes of waiting, the tr
"I love you... Want you with all my heart. Even if God plans to separate us, I will do my best to persuade Him not to do it."Hugging Chloe's body, Edward chuckled softly. This morning, when he woke up from sleep, she couldn't stop hugging and kissing him. Acting all affectionate, like a woman who desperately wants to be loved. She had been showering him with sweet gestures countless times. It was nothing like the usual Chloe."How many more times do you need to say that? No need to repeat, my love. I know now that you truly love me," he replied, gently kissing his wife's forehead. He found her behavior this morning both adorable and exasperating."You know, Ed?" She tilted her head and asked. "I feel so foolish for often ignoring you and arrogantly rejecting you before."Edward laughed again. "So, you've truly fallen in love with me now?"Confidently, Chloe nodded. The long-haired woman was no longer ashamed to admit that she was head over heels for him now. "Maybe it's more than jus
The white-themed living room was beautifully transformed this afternoon, adorned with an abundance of flowers. Various kinds of cakes and heavy dishes, along with an array of drinks, were neatly arranged on every corner of the table.Everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the celebration party organized by the only child of the Martin family. Amidst the excitement, laughter, and classical music playing in the background, the atmosphere exuded an intimate feeling for everyone present. However, in the midst of the created buzz, everyone's attention was slightly diverted when Edward intentionally asked Sisilia, the house assistant, to bring someone along to join them.Chloe and Dylan both showed surprise on their faces. The appearance of a middle-aged woman, whom Edward brought in the middle of the party, captured their attention.Especially Dylan Arley. Feeling certain about what he saw, the middle-aged man immediately walked over to her. Without hesitation, he embraced the woman Edw
