Chapter Three

GRACE

I turned off my alarm and got up from my bed. I took a warm bath and changed up in some baggy clothes. I brushed my long hair and put it in a loose bun.

I sighed while staring at myself in the mirror. Exiting my bathroom, and grabbing my bag pack, I descended down the stairs with utter precaution and care. The house was silent like a graveyard, and that could've only meant one thing: they weren’t here.

Grabbing the opportunity, I left the house. Studying at Saint Loren's had its perks, one of them being: being on time, always. That is, if you are a punctual kid and like to be on time.

Nevertheless, nothing was handed to me in a silver platter. I studied hard for my scholarship, so that afterwards, I didn’t have to worry about paying the tuition fees or knocking my head against the wall, figuring ways how to make money.

________

When I reached my college, I felt a sudden rush of adrenaline. And prayed for my day to pass without any trouble.

I slowly made my way inside the college while clenching the straps of my bag tightly. I sighed in relief as I reached my class without bumping into any of my bullies. Yup! Bullies in college, sucks.

I walked inside the class and saw two new faces--they were boys. They wore glasses amd face masks, they had their hoodies over their heads which prevented anyone from seeing their hair. Since our class didn’t have many students, it was easy to tell if someone new was here.

I stared at the guy with grey eyes and continued to stare at him. I guess I was staring at him for too long since he returned the favor and stared right back at me. My heart was hammering against my chest and my stomach felt a weird sensation. I looked away from him and focused on my way towards my seat. My cheeks were tainted with redness

I sat on my usual seat in the back and placed my bag on the floor, before shooting a secretive glanc back in their way. Although they seemed to be nerds, I could sense the dangerous aura swirling around them.

They say we should never judge a book by it’s cover, maybe they were hiding something. I gave my head a light shake, believing I was overthinking again.

When I looked up again, I found him staring at me and our eyes locked. His grey eyes held pure mischief and evilness. Not being able to stare him in the eyes anymore, I turned my head away from him. I felt my body on fire. For a nerd...he seemed very intimidating.

Soon enough the professor walked inside, smiling,

“ Hello class.” He greeted and we greeted back,

“ Hello Sir.”

“ Today we have two new transfers. Would you please come out and introduce yourselves to the class.” The professor said and the two boys got up, wow! They were quite tall. The guy with grey eyes was slightly taller than the other one.

They stood in front of the class and one of them said,

“ Hello, I’m Peter West.” The guy with beautiful blue eyes spoke,

“ Heath West.” The grey eyed boy spoke, his tone held a touch of menace, his voice was alluring and deep, anyone would be attracted to his voice the moment they hear it,

“ Alright, does anyone have questions for them?” The professor said,

“ Yeah, are you two related?” A girl asked,

“ We are brothers.” Peter replied and the girl nodded,

“ Why are you two wearing face masks?” A guy spoke and Peter replied,

“ Twin flu.” The class laughed at his comment and I could see Peter smiling behind his mask,

“ How old are you two and where did you came from? Another girl asked,

“ We are 18 and we came from America.”

“ But you have British accent?” A guy spoke,

“ Our mother was from Britain.” This time Heath replied, I could sense the irritation in his voice, everyone could which is why they quiet down. Peter whispered something in Heath’s ear and Heath stared at Peter, his eyes emotionless,

“ Thank you very much boys, you may go back to your seats.” The professor spoke with a gentle tone and the boys walked back to their seats, while walking towards their seats, I and Heath stared at each other and once again I felt my body on fire.

The professor coughed to gather everyone’s attention and I broke the eye contact with him,

“ So class, today we will study about....” And the class started.

After college

Today college went by smoothly and I was more than glad. I made my way towards the library to do my assignments. I entered it and smiled at the librarian, he smiled back at me,

“ Hello Mr.Jude.” I greeted lowly with a smile,

“ Hello Grace, new novels arrived today.” He said and I became excited,

“ Really? I will look over them then. Thank you Mr.Jude.” I said and he nodded with a smile, I walked towards the shelf where the new novels were kept and went through them.

As I went through the books, my mind drifted off towards Heath. The girls were discussing them after class and I couldn't help but to overhear them. They were talking about the brothers having some sort of serious illness, which can spread if not taken the necessary steps. I would've claimed it as a rumor, but why else would they wear those masks?

Finally zooming out of my world, I found two novels of my interest, and grabbed them both before  walking towards the table. I sat down and placed the novels on the table. I opened my bag and took out my books and notebooks. I opened my book and notebook and began to do my assignments.

Once I was done, I closed my notebook and book and placed them back in my bag. I grabbed my novels and got up, walking towards Mr.Jude’s desk to issue them.

I was staring at the title of the book and didn’t notice the person standing ahead. I bumped into his hard back and my novels fell down. The guy turned around and I saw Heath staring at me. I saw Peter in front of him. They still had their face masks and hoodies on.

I stared at Heath and said,

“ Sorry.” I bent down and picked up my novels, I stood straight and passed him an apologetic smile before walking out of there.

I stood in front of Mr.Jude’s desk and we exchanged smiles,

“ I would like to issue these two books.” I said softly and Mr.Jude nodded with a smile,

“ Of course.” He scanned the books and did his work. I saw Peter and Heath walking towards us with books in their hands, they were talking or should I say that Peter was talking, Heath was just listening.

I looked away from them and back to Mr.Jude, I felt their gaze on me. They stood behind me and Mr.Jude handed me my books,

“ There you go Grace.” He said and I smiled,

“ Thank you Mr.Jude.” I said and turned around, I stared at them and said,

“ Um..can you please move a side?” I saw Heath smirking from behind his mask, Peter moved a side and I thanked him while walking out.

Why did I feel like Heath was trouble? I’m overthinking again.
