"I spent years searching for Serenity, but when I couldn't find her, I started looking for substitutes. As long as a woman had a slight resemblance to the girl I remembered, I would date her," Lucas explained.

Coco was surprised to hear that.

"How many women did you date?" she asked hesitantly.

"I can't remember," he admitted. "I changed girlfriends frequently back then. Sometimes, if things moved quickly, I might switch every month or two."

He then smiled bitterly. "Wasn't I foolish back then?"

His smile made Coco's heart ache, and she gently kissed his hands.

He trembled slightly as Coco continued, "That’s because you really wanted to find Serenity back then, right?"

She could tell he must have been desperate. Otherwise, why would a man like him seek out substitutes just to hold on to a fantasy?

"Coco, are you..." Lucas began but hesitated.

Coco seemed to read his mind. "You want to know if I’m angry with you?"

Lucas nodded slightly. It seemed Coco was getting to know him
