I wake to the sound of loud beeping noises in a strange room, surrounded by bright lights and white walls. Confused and disoriented, I tried to sit up but felt a headache and noticed tubes and wires connected to me. Everything felt scary and unfamiliar, and I couldn't remember how I got here. The beeping sounds from the monitors made me even more anxious, as I struggled to figure out what was going on.
I try to recall what happened, but my mind was blank. A nurse walks into the room as I attempt to get down from the bed, she rushes to my side."No, no, no, miss D'errico. You're not in the right condition now. Please lie down, you need more rest" She gently pushes me back down."What happened, why am I here? What's going on?" I ask anxiously in a loud tone."Calm down Mrs. D'errico, you were involved in a car accident this morning and was rushed here shortly after."My head was spinning with questions. An accident? How long had I been in the hospital? Then it hit me. Memories of the crash flooded back to me. Pieces of broken glass, the color red and darkness."Do you remember anything from the accident?" She asks, watching me carefully.I tried to remember but I couldn't remember anything. I shake my head. The door opens and my mother rushes in, looking very distressed. She looked like she'd been crying and her hair was disheveled, I wasn't used to seeing my mother like this."Emily, you're awake thank goodness!" She kneels at my side, taking her hand in mine."Please be gentle ma'am she just woke up, and she isn't fully recovered yet," The nurse says. She ignores the nurse and continues to squeeze my hand tightly." I'm so glad you're okay," my mother continues, her words a mix of relief and worry, some kind Samaritans had you rushed to the hospital. How did it happen?"."I don't know mom, I went to do some shopping and on my back, the next thing I saw was darkness" I tried to remember any crucial information but nothing came to mind. Maybe the crash caused some amnesia."It doesn't matter now baby, you're okay now. Oh thank God. Giovanni had you placed in this private suit upon hearing of your crash".Giovanni was here?At that moment the door burst open and Giovanni's burly figure walked in, he had to bend his head down to enter the room. He ignores the nurse and advances to my side."How do you feel?" He asks softly."I-I feel fine," I say. His expression changes slightly into one of relief. The doctor walks in. She had a clipboard in her hand. She greets him and my mother."How do you feel, Mrs D'errico?" She asks."I feel fine," I say."Good but you still need to run through some tests till we determine if you're fit to go back home.""I want to leave now," I say firmly. The doctor, maintaining a calm demeanor, responds, "I understand you want to go home, Mrs. D'errico but we need to run some tests to ensure you're truly ready. It's for your safety. Once we get the results, we can discuss the possibility of you leaving. Please be patient"."Do you recall anything from the accident? anything at all?" She asks.I strain to recall the events leading up to this moment. My mother's worried eyes searched mine for answers, but my mind remained a foggy maze.My head throbbed, making it difficult to concentrate on anything beyond the dull ache."You're not the police so let her be, she doesn't need to remember anything for now. It's causing her distress" Giovanni says, a hint of annoyance in his voice. The doctor nods "Right, of course.""What happened to the driver? Is he alright?" I ask him."He's in terrible condition, he got affected the most from the crash, he's in another ward." He responds. "I should have not allowed you to go anywhere. Fuck. I'm sorry." He looks at me."It's not your fault, you didn't know something like this would happen," I say trying to comfort him."She won't be working at your company anymore" My mother suddenly says.I turn to her in shock. She had a determined expression on her face."No I'll keep working, it's just my first day," I say."Honey, you've just been involved in an accident," She says exasperatedly."I know but that doesn't mean I should stop working" I reply back"Have you seen the news, you're all over the internet, you need to keep a low profile from now on" She says firmly."I—"A blood-curdling scream cuts me short as a nurse runs into the room grabbing the doctor by her clothes."Doctor, h-he's dead, he's dead, a patient is dead. It's a murder.""What!!" The doctor exclaims."It's the man that was brought alongside her", She points at me. Giovanni looks at my mother and then at me before going out of the room with the doctor.I was unable to get down due to the tubes and I'm sure my mother wouldn't want me to anyways."Emily, honey, it seems like there's something more going on here. We need to stay calm and let the authorities handle it," she says, her voice filled with concern.I say nothing and look back at her in fear. What's happening? As I sat on the edge of my bed, I took a deep breath and reached for the tubes attached to my body.My mother put her hands on me."No you can't, you'll hurt yourself,' she said, placing her hands on mine. I could see the worry in her eyes. I tried to control my breathing, but my mind was spinning. The constant beeping of the machine and the sterile hospital smell made matters worse. The door opens and Giovanni walks in calmly. 'What happened, who was murdered?' I ask frantically, my heart racing and my mind filled with fear and confusion. I catch the quick look he gives my mother, and my anxiety only grows."The driver, apparently someone snuck into his ward and killed him," Giovanni responds in a calm tone, almost as if he's talking about the weather. My mind goes blank for a moment as I process this information. Oh my God, I say to myself, putting my hand to my mouth in shock."You'll be discharged today," Giovanni continues, his voice still calm and collected. I can't believe what
"Emily, I need to talk to you...in private," he emphasized, his tone serious and urgent. I looked at him with astonishment, wondering why he couldn't discuss whatever it was in front of us. Did he have no shame?"It seems Mr. Lockwood has lost his manners". Giovanni says cooly.Zachary looked like he wanted to punch something. He gave me a hard look, when we were married that look meant that I was out of line and wanted to keep me in check. "We have nothing to discuss Zachary", I say, slowly wrapping my hand around the fork, trying to control my breathing. "Emily, we need to talk about us," He says. I look at him in shock. Giovanni lets out a small chuckle. "Zachary, what the hell are you talking about? There is no us" I say. "I don't care about your current husband. I'm not sure what kind of messed up relationship you have with this man, all I know is that it won't last" He says completely ignoring Giovanni's presence.I look up at him, "We're divorced for a reason, there's nothi
I stare at the text again and again, a shiver running down my spine. An eerie feeling wraps around me as I attempt to call the mysterious number, only to be met with the chilling response of it being invalid.Returning to the room, Giovanni, casually pouring himself a glass of wine, senses my unease. He drops the crystal glass on the table as he notices the distress etched across my face."What's wrong?" he inquires, his sharp eyes probing mine.Attempting to mask my anxiety, I mutter, "Nothing, just a wrong number."His gaze intensifies, and he presses, "Who called you?""Just a mix-up," I say. Unconvinced, Giovanni steps closer, concern etched on his formidable face. He cups my chin forcing me to look up at him as he demands the truth. I reluctantly bring out my phone and show him the ominous text message. He examines it silently but a visceral feeling radiates off him and the room becomes cold. The room charged with an unspoken threat."I'll get to the source of this, don't worry
"Emily dear, how are you? it's been such a long time." Her smile is similar to the big bad wolf's. I had lived with her all those years, I wasn't moved nor fooled by it. "Aren't you going to ask me to sit?" She queries impatiently. I reluctantly gesture to one of the chairs In front of my desk. Her eyes scan my office not missing a single detail, I watch as a slight frown comes across her face. "This is nice. It's homely," She praises in her way. Mama Lockwood doesn't give out compliments freely. I smile stiffly, "Thank you, ma'am.""Let's get down to why I'm here, it must come off as a shock to see me here this morning. Emily dear I know we've not always seen eye to eye and I want us to set our differences aside. Come back home to Zachary, I'll be willing to forgive you for leaving. I know you wronged Zachary but he's willing to take you back and that's fine. You love him don't you?" She says. I look at her incredulously. What?!!"With all due respect Mrs Lockwood, your son che
I sip my coffee and try to relax."Is everything all right?" Her voice filled with worry as she asked me. I look around the café, trying to gather my thoughts and make sense of the situation. The bodyguard was standing by the car and I relax a bit but at the same time, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in my mind."Um... everything's fine," I said finally, trying to reassure Salma and myself. But deep down, I knew that everything was far from fine.My phone rings and Giovanni's name pops up on my screen. My heart skips a beat as I answer the call."Emily, where are you?" Giovanni's voice sounded urgent."I'm at a cafe, it isn't far from the office. Why, what's happening?" I reply my voice shaky. "Your mother sent a concerning message to me," Giovanni continued, "She said she got a scary message and asked if I was with you."My mind raced as I tried to think of what could have scared my mother so much."Get out of wherever you are Emily, it's not safe. I'll b
"We need to report this to the police Mom," I say to her."No-no, there's no need for that," She says shaking her head vigorously. She looked distressed. "What do you mean there's no need? This is a serious matter, I'll just grab my phone from my bag and tell them about this," I retorted, rummaging through my bag for my phone. "No, Emily. You will do no such thing. Don't involve the police in this situation," my mother insisted, her tone becoming more serious.I am taken aback by her sudden change in demeanor as I look at her in astonishment. I look at my phone and then back at her. I didn't know what to do. "Okay Mom, let's just wait for Giovanni to come back home." I finally say, dropping my phone. She nods her head. I spend the rest of the day, telling her about father's company, Salma, Reynolds. I talked about anything, trying to get her mind off the message. It wasn't until evening that Giovanni arrived. I was so relieved to see him that I didn't know what came over me as I
His touch was gentle, yet firm, as he traced the curves of my face. His movements are slow and soft yet urgent. As I pressed my lips against his, I could feel the electricity coursing through my body. The familiar taste of his lips, the way they fit perfectly with mine, our tongues dancing together, sent shivers down my spine. I could feel the intensity building between us, wanting more with each passing moment. His hands roamed my body, pulling me closer to him. I could feel his warmth radiating through his touch, making my knees go weak. I ran my fingers roughly through his hair, pulling him even closer as I deepened the kiss. I could feel his breath quicken, his heart beating in sync with mine. Our bodies molded together perfectly, as if they were made to fit together. The heat and passion between us burning strongly. As our lips parted, I looked into his eyes and saw the desire in them, he wanted more and so did I. I couldn't resist the urge to taste him again, to feel the rush
Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang. My car door was banged on repeatedly. The figure wore a baseball cap, so I couldn't see the face clearly. I hoped to God that whoever it was would just go away. The person looks up and I gasp.It was Zachary. I rolled the window down. "Zachary! What in God's name are you doing? Why are you following me? What is your problem" I yell at him. I'm relieved that it's just Zachary. I glare at him, wondering what he wanted this time and why he went all this way. Won't I ever be free of this man. "Open the door Emily, I need to talk to you?" He says in a commanding tone. That triggered me, I'd spent most of my marriage with Zachary always telling me what to do, without me talking back to him or having another opinion to what he had to say. "No I won't, I don't want to have anything to do with you again? Haven't you no shame? What in God's name do you want from me this time?"He sighs frustratedly, "Please Emily, I just want to talk to you" He pleads. I hesitat
I stood in the abandoned warehouse, my heart pounding. The plan was simple: I'd act as bait to lure Primo here. Then, our team would capture him. But something felt off. "Are you ready, Emily?" Giovanni asked, squeezing my hand. I nodded, trying to look braver than I felt. "As ready as I'll ever be." As Giovanni and the others hid, I heard a car approach. This was it. Primo entered, his cold eyes scanning the room before landing on me. "Well, well," he smirked. "Little Emily, all alone." I took a deep breath. "I want to make a deal, Primo. The gem for my family's safety." He laughed, a chilling sound that made my skin crawl. "Oh, Emily. You're in no position to make deals." Suddenly, smoke filled the room. I heard shouts and gunfire. This wasn't part of the plan! Through the chaos, I felt someone grab me from behind. "Sorry, cousin," a woman's voice whispered in my ear. "But I need you more than they do." As the smoke cleared, I found myself face to face with a woman
Suddenly, a very loud explosion shook the car and it wobbled violently, tires screeching against the ground. Before I could process what was happening, the door beside me was violently opened, and a familiar face appeared."Hadid!" I gasped in disbelief."Come on, Emily! We need to move!" she shouted, grabbing my arm and pulling me from the car. This would be the second time Hadid would hijack me from a situation it seemed.Gunfire erupted around us as we ran towards a waiting motorcycle. I glanced back to see Primo and his men stumbling from the damaged vehicle, their faces contorted with rage.Hadid revved the engine as I clung to her waist. We sped off into the night, leaving the chaos behind us."Where are we going?" I yelled over the wind."Somewhere safe," Hadid replied. "Hold on tight!"We maneuvered through traffic at an alarming speed, my heart pounding in my chest. After what felt like hours, we finally slowed, pulling into a dark, quiet alleyway.Hadid killed the engine and
As the guards began to drag me away, a desperate idea struck me. "Wait!" I shouted, my voice cracking with fear. "I... I know something about the gem!"The guards paused, and I felt all eyes in the room turn to me. Primo raised an eyebrow, a flicker of interest crossing his otherwise emotionless face."Bring her back," he ordered.I was roughly shoved back into the chair, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might burst from my chest. I had no idea what I was going to say, but I knew I had to buy time."Well?" Primo leaned forward, his eyes boring into mine. "What do you know?"I took a deep breath, my mind racing. "The... the gem. Giovanni told me it was hidden in a place where the sun meets the sea."Primo's eyes narrowed. "Go on.""He said it was in a lighthouse," I continued, the lie growing as I spoke. "On the coast of Maine. A red and white striped lighthouse, with a secret compartment in the lantern room."For a moment, there was silence in the room. Then Primo turned to one
Desperation and fear clawed at my throat as I looked around the room. These men, with their cold eyes and cruel smiles, terrified me. But I had to know."Please," I begged, my voice trembling, "what do you know about my mother? Where is she?"Their laughter hit me like a physical blow. It was cruel, mocking, and devoid of any real humor. Before I could say anything else, the door burst open. A group of armed men stormed in, their weapons at the ready. Two of them grabbed me, their grip painfully tight on my arms. I struggled against them, but it was useless. The blonde man, who had been watching me with those emotionless eyes, finally spoke. His voice was calm, almost conversational, which somehow made it even more chilling."Allow me to introduce myself," he said. "I am Primo Belluci."He paused, as if expecting a reaction. But the name meant nothing to me. I just stared at him, confused and scared.Primo scoffed, shaking his head. "My, my. You really are an ignorant little thing, ar
The person stepped closer, a strange smile playing on their lips. "Hello, Emily."As my eyes adjusted to the dim light, I felt my heart drop. It was Salvatore, Giovanni's half-brother. My mind reeled, trying to make sense of his presence here."Salvatore?" I croaked, my throat dry from fear and dehydration. "What's going on? Why are you here?"His smile widened, but it didn't reach his eyes. "Oh, Emily. You played right into our trap. It was almost too easy."I shook my head, confusion mingling with terror. "Trap? What are you talking about? Where's Hadid?"Salvatore laughed, a cold, mirthless sound that sent chills down my spine. "Hadid? She was just a pawn, my dear. A means to an end. And that end was bringing you here.""What?" I gasped, struggling against my bonds. "No, that can't be true. Hadid wouldn't... Where is she? What have you done with her?"His face hardened, all traces of amusement gone. "Shut up," he snapped, "or you'll regret it."Before I could say another word, he p
I jolted awake in the middle of the night, my heart racing. I suddenly hear a sound, barely audible but out of place in the quiet safehouse. Straining my ears, I caught muffled voices from downstairs.I moved stealthily towards the door, my feet silent on the cold floor. As I reached for the handle, a thought struck me - what if it was Hadid, finally returned? But when I tried to open the door, I found it locked. Panic began to rise in my chest. Why would they lock me in?"Hello?" I called out, my voice trembling slightly. "Is anyone there? Is Hadid back?” After a moment, I heard footsteps approaching. The lock clicked, and the door swung open. But instead of the friendly faces of Sarah and Maria, I was met with the barrels of two handguns pointed directly at me.I stumbled back, my mouth dry with fear. "W-what's going on?"Sarah's usually kind face was now hard and cold. "Get back inside, Emily. Now.""But... I don't understand," I stammered. "Where's Hadid? What's happening?"Maria
"What?! Is he alright? Please tell me he's alright. Where is he now? Who shot at him?" The questions poured out in a rush."I don't know all the details," Hadid said, tiredly. "I think it happened at the Oasis. He was also there at the brothel, Marcus must have led all of them there."I threw off the covers and got down from the bed "We have to go see him. Now. Where is he?"Hadid placed a gentle hand on my arm. "Emily, I don't think that's a good idea. It's not safe out there. You should try to get some more sleep."I shook my head roughly "No, you don't understand. I can't wait. I need to see my husband.”Her eyes widened in surprise."Please," I begged, ignoring her surprise.Hadid sighed, running a hand through her hair. "Emily, I'm sorry, but I don't think he's back at the hotel. I'm not even sure where he is."My heart sank. "Then where is he? We have to do something!""I know, and we will," Hadid assured me. "But right now, the best thing we can do is wait until morning. We'll
The next morning, I woke up with a start, my heart pounding. I quickly made my way to Hadid's room. To my astonishment, Hadid was not only awake but up and about, pacing the small room with surprising energy."Hadid!" I exclaimed, relief washing over me. "How are you feeling?"She turned to face me, a wry smile playing on her lips. "I told you, I won't die easily. It takes more than that to keep me down."I marveled at her resilience. "I'm glad to see you're doing better. But you should still take it easy."Hadid shook her head, her eyes gleaming with determination. "There's no time for that. I think I know a way to find your mother."My eyebrows shot up. "Really? How?""She sent me a message last month, just before she disappeared again," Hadid explained. "Now I have no idea where she is or what's happened to her, but that message might hold a clue.""What did the message say?" I ask anxiously.Hadid's brow furrowed. "Something about 'returning to the place where it all began' and 't
Marcus would suddenly release me and I fell to the ground, I quickly scrambled out of the way and watched as Giovanni and Marcus clashed, their confrontation escalating into a full-blown fight, I watched as they shot at each other. Marcus began shooting rapidly, bullets began to fly everywhere and I went down and took cover to avoid being hit. Suddenly I felt a hand grab my arm and I shriek. It was Hadid."We need to go, now!" she hissed urgently. Without thinking, I let her pull me away from the chaos. We slipped through a side door and found ourselves in a dimly lit corridor. The sounds of the fight grew muffled as we ran, my heart pounding in my ears. We burst out of the building and into the cool night air. Hadid's car was right where we'd left it. We jumped in, and she started the car driving quickly away from place. When we were at a safe distance away from the place. I finally caught my breath enough to speak. "Hadid, what the hell just happened back there?"She kept her ey
