Chapter Four

Ryan's parents took the left turn and drove to the grocery store to get some food stuff , the one they bought for the previous month was exhausted. 

Their marriage had gone through a lot lately and the couple decided to spend more time together to make the marital  bond stronger,to build the broken trust and to rekindle their love once more.

Ryan's dad halt the engine and they alighted the car. They entered the grocery store to get what they need.

"So what do you think we need at home? "Ryan's dad asked.

"Uhm... Am not really good at remembering things .... I think we need milk, flour, eggs, butter, pasta, noodles .... And something so I can't remember." 

"Ok, all I know is that can't be all." 

"Let's just go around and pick things randomly." She suggested. 

"Great idea."

So they picked the items that were needed and put them inside a trolley. 

"I miss my babies." Ryan's mom said. She stopped and turn to her husband, "They must be bored and lonely." 

"Don't worry, they are fine, they will take care of themselves with or without anyone's supervision." He said and squeezed her hand gently and kissed it, "Point of correction, they are not babies, come on they are grown." 

"To me, they are my babies." She insisted. 

"Ok if they are babies, go get them infant formula instead of all these."  He said and they both laughed.

When they finished shopping, they presented the trolley filled with food items to the cashier for recording .They paid and she smiled.

"Thanks for patronizing us, we hope to see you again. Have a great day." she said and gave them the food stuffs in plastic bags. 

"You too." the old couple replied.

They stepped out of the grocery store , each holding two filled up plastic bags.

"Hey, help me open the boot, "Ryan's mom said.

"It's opened." 

"He opened it and put all the bags inside the boot. He closed the boot and walked to the door of the car but they were stopped by two boys.

"Excuse me ma'am." 

"Excuse me sir." The two boys shouted making the couple stop.

"Excuse me?" Ryan's mom asked looking down at the boys to see their faces clearly if he recognise them, "I don't think I know you." 

"You are Ryan and Sarah's parents?" One of the boys asked.

" Yes, any problem?" The parents chorused.

"We will like to give you this." The other boy said stretching an envelope to the couple.

"And what is this?" Ryan's mom and dad looked at each other. 

"Your children." The boys chorused.

"What about them?" Ryan's mom asked already worried.

"I think they are into each other like doing things that is not supposed to be heard of, there by breaking the town's rule." 

"Did you see them do anything?" Ryan's dad asked.

"No. But they act like they are in love with each other." The boy tried to explain. 

"Come off it. It's not a crime to love your sibling and show affection." 

"But it is a crime when you kiss and hold her to close in the public, because if they can do that in the public what do it think they will do to each other in the private? Who knows?", They tried to explain.

"Look, stop monitoring my children, and wherever this may come from is not true." He said and raised the envelope up, "I don't believe it." 

"Sir, try to understand ......" 

"I should understand you accusing my children wrongly?" Ryan's dad fired, "no way will I ever believe that." 

Ryan's mom was still in shock, she couldn't believe what she was hearing, whether it is true or not she didn't know.

"So...you are saying ...that ....that my kids are lo....lovers?" She stammered with her hand on her chest. 

"No darling, don't tell me you believe that. This is clear nonsense" He touched his wife. Who was still trying to give a reasonable meaning to what was said.

"Look, my children knows the law governing this small town and they can't go against it so I don't know what you are talking about" Ryan's mom said when she finally found her voice. 

"Ok. I suggest you watch them closely and inspect any abnormal behaviour." The boys said.  

"Ok. Thank you." The couple said and turned to leave.

"Anytime, bye" The boys said and watched the old couple made their way into the car." They don't believe us, maybe we shouldn't have told them, because I know one day they will surely find things out themselves, nothing is hidden forever under the sun." His friend said still looking at the direction of Ryan's parents car. 

"Seriously am embarrassed, I mean highly, did you see the way he defended those bitches he called his children?"

"I am surprised myself." 

"If I was asked to write the most embarrassing day of my life, this will be on the top list, it will come first."

"Me too."

"Don't worry, as you said, nothing is hidden under the sun forever, they will find out the truth sooner or later." 

"So... What will you do about the other copy?" He asked his friend. 

"Simple, I will give the chief whip so he can investigate on the matter himself." 

"Ok, good, I hope the outcome is positive, I can't be embarrassed the second time." 

"Are you talking of embarrassment or the punishment that will be attached to speeding fakse rumours." 

"Oh my.." 

"Do you know what will be done to us?  If they investigate Ryan and Sarah's case and they price to be innocent?"

"No." 

"Fuck you, you never know anything,  you are just living  in this town for nothing." His friend said.

"Ok, do you know what will be done to us if they investigate Ryan and Sarah's case and find them innocent?" He asked his friend.

"How do you expect me to know." 

"Fuck you dick head, you never know anything, you are just living in this town for nothing." He said hitting his friend on the chest  and they laughed. They left to meet the chief whip of the town.

Ryan's dad was driving when he noticed his wife staring at the printed picture. They both stared at the picture of their two lovely children, Ryan and Sarah, holding each other so close almost kissing each other, the way their posture was, one would think they were in love.

"Darling, I still don't believe it." Ryan's dad said taking another look at the picture.

"Me too. I can't believe we went for vacation for some days to spend more time together and ease off stress then I came back to see this?" His wife raised the picture up. "What if it's true, Ryan will be banished and my lovely Sarah....." 

"Will you stop this talk." Her husband shouted. "Why can't you be optimistic for once, don't be filled with negative thoughts. It is not true  and I believe no one has the right to monitor my children  Sarah has this brotherly love for her brother and Ryan love protecting his sister so I don't believe this shit." He said and flung the picture at the back seat. 

"Whatever it is, I hope it's not true." His wife says with her hand on her fore head. 

"Hey, forget about that." Her husband said touching her with one hand and driving with the other.  "Am sorry for breaking our bond lately, am sorry I don't give you and the kids much time , am sorry for everything. Hope am forgiven?" 

"You are you fuck face." She smiled.

"I love you very much." he told her.

" I love you too " she replied.

"I promise to give you and our kids adequate time and not to break your trust again. All those shit will never happen again."

"Okay." She replied."So after going on vacation for a couple of days, what will you get for the kids?"

"It's a surprise." He said.

"And I love surprises." She smiled.

"Can't wait to get home." 

"Me too." 

 "Can't wait to eat you." He looked at her with the corner of his eyes.

"Brat! " She hit him in the shoulder.
