Andrew

In my dreams, Lanie was beneath me, her soft cries of pleasure ringing through the room. I took her mouth with mine, claiming her, showing her that she belonged to me. No other man would ever touch her.

From somewhere nearby, a banging sounded. I blinked, realizing I’d been sleeping. Rubbing my eyes, I took in the dark room. Floor-length mirror. White wardrobe. A thin sliver of morning light coming in through the cream curtains.

And, in my arms, a beautiful woman.

I inhaled quick, shocked that the night hadn’t been a dream at all.

But for how long had we been in the hotel suite? I hadn’t meant to fall asleep. We were only supposed to stay for a few hours before I took her home. And yet I couldn’t even remember thinking about getting out of bed.

Judging by the light, morning was on its way. This was usually the time I got up, needing to jump in the pool for my morning laps before heading to work.

Secured in my arms, Lanie fidgeted. She yawned lightly, stretching an arm out

Lanie I slowed my car down as the houses became larger and farther apart. “This neighborhood is super nice,” I quietly said into the phone. “Where did you expect him to live?” Erica responded. I shrugged, though she couldn’t see me. On her end, Matt’s muffled voice said something. “What are you guys doing?” I asked.“His friend has some house party tonight, so we might swing by that. Unless your new boyfriend wants us to come over and crash your dinner party.”I smiled to myself, deciding not to correct her use of “boyfriend.” It had been three days since I woke up in a hotel bed with one of the most amazing men in the universe, and I’d spent every second since then burning to see him. Gone was the belief that a couple of fun evenings would be enough. I wanted more from Andrew. Though I was worried about putting an exact label on what I desired, the truth was I simply wanted him around. I loved it when he was with me, and I didn’t want that ever to change. For the last three da

Lanie I opened my mouth, not sure what to address first. It warmed my heart that Raven had indirectly suggested I might be her dad’s girlfriend, though we were far from that stage.“I’m sorry about your mom,” I ended up saying. She shrugged. “It was a long time ago. The shitty thing was Dad disappearing because of it. But lately, it’s been better. It’s been chill.” She nodded to herself and looked away. My whole chest warmed up. “I’m glad to hear that.”“I know it’s because of you.” Her gaze was on me again, a mixed bag of emotions. “Um, thank you? Or ...”“It’s good.”“Great,” I sighed in relief. She wrapped her hand around the ladder and swung slightly on it. “Yeah, he really likes you.”I had to bite down on my lip to stop the shit-eating grin forming there. “He’s great.”“Raven?” Andrew’s voice called from down the hall. “Lanie’s going to be here soon.”My heart flipped, and I turned in time to see Andrew emerge in the doorway. At the sight of me, his eyes went wide.“Oh,” he qu

Lanie Andrew sighed, and I gave him a timid, encouraging smile. “I don’t know what I’m doing,” he admitted. “I bet most people feel that way.”He shook his head. “It’s good that she’s going out. She didn’t used to. But now that she’s acting normal again, I’m left with a whole new problem.”“That of raising a teenager?”“Exactly.” He laughed. I lifted a shoulder. “Sorry. I wish I could be more help.” “This is your job, isn’t it?” He reached across the table and took my hand in his. Flipping my arm over, his fingers ran up and down the delicate spot there. Pleasure danced through me.“Um, what were we talking about again?”Andrew smiled. “Nothing,” he whispered. “We’re finally alone.”“Yeah,” I thickly gasped. “We are.”For a long moment, we stayed where we were, his fingers dancing across my arm. After days of yearning for his touch, getting it made me feel so good I was afraid I’d pass out. “Want to see the living room?” he asked after a while. I’d already gotten a peek at it ea

Lanie “Is that you, Lanie?” Mom called as I closed the front door behind me. “Yeah!” I hung my jean jacket up and made my way through the house, following the spicy-sweet scent in the air. As expected, my mom was in the kitchen. As I entered, she pulled a baking sheet of cookies from the oven and set them on the stove top. “Those look good,” I commented, leaning against the kitchen island. “They’re for the library bake sale tomorrow. I thought we could ice them.” She turned to me, and her eyes went wide. “That’s not what you’re wearing, is it?”I looked down at my jeans, ankle boots, and sweater. “Uh, to the bake sale? Isn’t that tomorrow?”Mom pursed her lips. The oven mitt hit the counter with a grand display of annoyance. “To your father’s event.”“What?” Realization, come days too late, struck. “Crap. That’s tonight?”“Yes. I hope you’re going home and changing.”“Mom, I forgot. I have plans.”She studied me. “What kind of plans?”“Plans with Andrew.”“Lanie—”“Mom, don’t.”“Yo

  • My Father's Best Friend   My Father Can't Find Out

LanieI opened my mouth, searching for air, but finding none. I’d been reduced to a frantically gulping fish. All I could do was stare at Andrew as the world around us turned apocalyptic.Andrew stared back, his face pale and his features tight. “How have you never met before?” my mother asked from next to me, her voice sounding miles away. I kept my eyes on Andrew, too aware of the pounding in my ears. Did we say something? As in the truth?I gulped, squeezing the sides of my chair. What would my parents say once they found out the man I was seeing was none other than my dad’s long-time friend?Andrew cleared his throat, his eyes quickly jumping to my mother. “I honestly don’t know. It’s crazy.” Again, his gaze slid over to me, the tension in his shoulders unmistakable. “You don’t go by Elizabeth.”He made it sound like an accusation. “No,” my numb tongue responded. “Helena is my middle name, so, you know, Lanie.”Andrew’s chest rose sharply with an inhale. “Right. It’s very nice.

  • My Father's Best Friend   Freaking Out

Lanie“Do your parents know about you and my dad?” Raven asked.“Um.”“Is that why you’re both acting all freaked out?”Sighing, I threw in the towel. Trying to keep anything from Raven would be pointless. I already knew she’d dig and dig until she uncovered the truth. “My parents don’t know your dad and I know each other. They wouldn’t take it well.”Her nose wrinkled. “Why?”“Because.” I hesitated. Should I really be having this conversation with a seventeen-year-old?“You’re too young for him,” she finished for me.My shoulders fell. “Is that what you think?”“No,” she quickly responded. “Jeez. But is that what your parents think?”I twisted my golden bracelet around and around. I’d been so excited getting dressed for Andrew, thinking this night would only be one of fun and passion. “Yes. They would. They believe I should only be spending my time with people my age.”“Well, that’s stupid.” Raven tossed her hair and crossed her legs, getting comfortable. Muffled applause crept under

  • My Father's Best Friend   The Morning After

AndrewFingers laced behind my head, I stared at the ceiling above my bed, thoughts running a thousand miles per hour. What were the chances of Bob being Lanie’s father? How come he never corrected me and told me she went by a nickname and not by Elizabeth? Was this moral? Was this a train wreck waiting to happen?Bob had been my closest friend for years. I couldn’t go behind his back and date his daughter. Right?Sighing, I turned to look at the pillow next to me. Every morning I woke up, the bed seemed larger, too spacious for one person. I’d thought Lanie would be sharing the mattress with me the night before, warming not only a bed but a spot in my life that had been vacant for far too long.Still, my body ached for her. It didn’t understand why my damn head hadn’t allowed her to come over. It’s too complicated, I reminded myself as I hauled my ass up. With what happened at the fundraiser and Raven not feeling well, there was too much going on. As badly as I needed Lanie in my arm

  • My Father's Best Friend   On a Break

Andrew“I get why Raven would be upset to think we’re sneaking around. I don’t want to feel like it’s that way.”“We weren’t,” she said in a small voice.“Yes, but if we continue to see each other without telling your parents, it will be sneaking around.”More silence filled the conversation, and I wished I could take back the “but” in my statement. It made the whole situation sound too precarious, like I had no faith in the two of us at all.“You don’t want to tell them, do you?”“My dad will be so angry,” she instantly said. “You must know that. You’re, like, his best friend, right?”It was supposed to be a joke, but it didn’t land its mark.“I can’t lie to him, Lanie,” I insisted.“What is he going to say when you tell him? Do you honestly think it’ll go well?”I chewed that over. Bob was a strong-willed man. An opinionated one. A pretty traditional one, as well. And protective. Even if he didn’t spend enough time with his family, I knew from the way he’d spoken in the past that he

Andrew“How are you doing?” I rubbed Lanie’s shoulder, feeling silly for asking the question. She huffed out a breath, looking out the window instead of at me.I nodded. Right, then. What was it I learned in that maternity class we took? For the life of me, I couldn’t remember one thing. My pulse was racing a million miles an hour, and all my nerves were bunching up in my stomach.Lanie exhaled again, long and low, as she had another contraction. The door opened, and the doctor strode into the room with a big smile. “Let’s check you out,” she said.Lanie just pressed her lips tight together and nodded, her face growing red.“You’re doing great, honey,” I told her.She smiled up at me, but I could see the exhaustion in her eyes. She was ready for this to be over with.Taking her hand, I held it tight as the doctor checked her dilation.“Ten centimeters,” she announced. “We’re ready to push.”“Thank god,” Lanie gasped. She gritted her teeth and squeezed my hand so tight, I thought it wa

LanieI whisked the curtains open, taking in the white beach and the sparkling blue water. Palm trees and other foliage covered the far side of the bay. A few people surfed, but other than that, the area was empty.“Oh my god,” I breathed. “It’s beautiful.”Andrew’s strong arms wrapped around me from behind. “Yeah?” he murmured, laying a kiss on the side of my neck. We’d gotten to the resort after dark the night before, and all I’d really gotten to see were the patios and the lobby. I’d pored over the brochure, though, listing all the things I wanted to do.“I can’t believe we’re here for a whole week.” I rested my arms against Andrew’s.“What do you want to do today?”“Mm.” I leaned against him, thinking about it some. “Sunbathe? Take a surfing lesson? I dunno. What do you want to do?”“Spend time with you.”I spun around to face him. “I like that answer.”A knock on the door made me look over his shoulder. “It’s so early. Who is that?”Andrew shrugged but couldn’t hide the knowing l

  • My Father's Best Friend   Mine Forever

AndrewThe door of the old house opened, and Erica came out first. She smiled at everyone over her bouquet, and a low whistle came from somewhere in the crowd.“Inappropriate,” Saxton dramatically gasped under his breath. For a moment, my nerves loosened, and I almost laughed—but Raven was coming out the door then. She wore a blue dress like Erica, just cut in a different way, with the skirt longer and no sleeves. Smiling wide, she made her way down the aisle. She walked with the slightest limp, one that might have been unnoticeable if you weren’t paying attention. It was the one leftover symptom from the car wreck, something that would likely be with her for the rest of her life, as she’d broken her leg so badly. The limp didn’t get her down, though. Overall, she’d been positive about the whole thing. Now, as she reached the end of the aisle, she looked my way and absolutely glowed.Love and pride filled my heart. Our relationship had gone through some tough times, but the last six m

  • My Father's Best Friend   It's Really Happening

Andrew3 Months Later – The Wedding“Your tie looks fine,” Bob told me.“Huh?” I dragged my gaze away from the line of trees ringing the field. “What’s that?”“You were messing with your tie again.” Bob grinned. “You ever wore one of those before?”I frowned. “Almost every day.”Bob clapped me on the back. “I was kidding, Andrew. Relax.”I took in a long breath. “Sorry.”All around us, wedding guests chatted and catering staff hurried to and from. The day was amazing, a balmy June morning. The venue Raven and Lanie had discovered couldn’t be more perfect. What was once a mansion on the outskirts of the city had been turned into a preserve complete with hiking trails and a covered area for events.“Were you this nervous?” I asked, looking Bob over.I expected him to answer in the negative—Bob was just that confident about everything. I’d only asked because I needed to keep myself busy somehow. If I didn’t spend the last fifteen minutes before my wedding talking, I’d probably die of anx

  • My Father's Best Friend   I Want to Feel You

LanieLast night, he’d pulled out every time and played it safe. I knew we were taking baby steps. Going from using a condom every time to suddenly doing away with them was a leap. But I was on birth control, which I’d told him, and immediate pregnancy was extremely unlikely. I just wanted to know what it felt like to have his come fill me up.“Please baby,” I moaned. “I want to feel you.”Andrew groaned above me, and his hands tightened on my ass. I was doing him over with this talk, and I knew it. He loved it. And he probably wanted the same thing I did. So I encouraged him again by looking over my shoulder and looking him in the eye as he fucked me.“Andrew,” I purred. “Fuck me until you come inside me. Please.”And he did. He bucked wildly against me, and I came as he shot his warm silky load inside me. It was what I had needed. A closeness that we’d never experienced before. He was bent over me and kissing my spine and my shoulder blades as his orgasm ebbed away and my body thrum

  • My Father's Best Friend   Not Messing Around

LanieI woke up in the morning with Andrew’s hand on my hip. I was lying on my side, and he was behind me. I could feel his cock pressed against the small of my back. His breath was on my neck, and his closeness turned me on immediately.I was always horny in the morning, and waking up next to him was intoxicating. It was early. The room wasn’t as bright as it would be at say, seven or so in the morning. It must have been earlier, maybe six, possibly just after five. But we were both awake, and I wanted to take advantage of it before I had to leave for work at eight thirty. My life had somehow mended itself. Erica’s weekend getaway had helped, and so had Andrew’s willingness to take a good hard look at himself in the mirror and figure out what he wanted and whether or not he was willing to do what it took to get it. He shifted against me and yawned deeply.“Morning,” I whispered. His hand moved around my hip to my belly, and he pulled me in closer to him. His cock shifted between my a

  • My Father's Best Friend   With Whipped Cream

AndrewHow had it taken me so long to figure out that this was what I needed? I hadn’t felt this good in years, or maybe even a decade, to be honest. Hell, maybe longer. My career had consumed my life. I’d nearly let it destroy my relationship with my daughter. Had it not been for Lanie, my life would have already imploded. Not only did she rescue the crumbling relationship with the person I loved most in this world, but she also showed me support and kindness and softness.“You’re a lucky bastard.” I smiled to myself as I rolled out of my chair and made for the kitchen.I chopped up some strawberries and tossed them on a bed of whipped cream. I added a sprinkle of icing sugar and some chocolate drizzle and left it in the fridge so that the whipped cream wouldn’t melt by the time Lanie came back down.I waited, much too nervous to do anything but pace the kitchen floor for a whole thirty-five minutes before Lanie appeared in the kitchen doorway. She was wearing a smile that eased my n

AndrewWhen I told Lanie that Raven was home, it took a lot of effort for us to cool down. We were all giggles and flirting as we went to the kitchen and each got a glass of water. Then we went out back to the patio and sat in the sun. Lanie kicked off her sandals, rested her feet in my lap, and let the sun kiss her bare legs. I ran my hands up and down them as she told me all about her weekend with Erica.“It really was beautiful there,” Lanie said. “We should go some time. You’d love the hot springs. I can only imagine how stunning it would be in the winter. And cold.”“I’ll take you whenever you want to go.”“I’ll tell you when I start to get the itch again.”“Good. What else is new? Tell me.”Lanie shrugged and sipped her water. “Besides getting totally pampered all weekend? Not much. I had some good chats with Erica, though, and I was able to sort through some things that were taking up too much space in my mind. Things about us.”“Oh?”“We need to be better at communicating,” sh

I’m sorry for all this shit the last few weeks. I’ve been an ass. I want to make this work. Really. I want to be with you.”I thought I might start crying. Again. But I held on to my emotions and smiled instead. “I want that too. So badly.”He kissed me again. My heart raced and tried to fly out of my chest. He broke away and threw his arm out to flag down a passing cab. We both piled into the back seat, and he told the driver his address. Then he pulled me into his lap, pushed my skirt up so he could rest his hands on my bare thighs, and crushed his mouth against mine.“What about your car?” I asked him and pressed against him tightly.“Fuck it. I’ll get it later.” He slipped his hands into my hair and pulled me down for another long round of kisses.I clung to him and didn’t care that there was someone in the car with us. He wa
