Erica nodded and fixed her gaze dead ahead on the road. We passed a sign that said Harrison was only fifteen more miles. I waited as Erica took a deep breath and then finally started talking. “You and Andrew are making this whole thing so much harder than it needs to be.”

I nodded, and she took that as a sign to keep going.

“All a relationship really takes is love, respect, and a willingness and eagerness to make it work. If that’s not there, then there is no point in fucking around and wasting time pursuing something that a few years down the road still won’t be what you want. Do you see where I’m going with this?”
