Paige arrived at Cedric's office with the men Cedric sent and after being left alone with Cedric, he threw folders of paper that landed on her feet and asked her to read through them.
Paige rolled her eyes and picked up the paper, ignoring the heated gaze of Cedric on her face, she was tempted to ask why Cedric was staring her down like she was prey but she didn't. She just picked up the papers and skimmed through them. She looked up at Cedric in disgust, The paper folder was a contract, a very ridiculous contract and Paige was not having it. "I'm not interested in this contract offer!" She declared and left the office, which took Cedric by surprise once again. Why was she being so difficult, he thought? Cedric was aware of Paige's job hunting, he had tried sabotaging every interview she had been to and made sure she didn't end up getting the job. Even though Cedric had no idea why Paige was so in need of money, he knew she needed money desperately, he had made one of his boys look into the reason why Paige needed money so, but he had yet to receive feedback. Cedric was curious about it so much because it was suspicious to him, after the amount of money he paid for the compensation, Paige shouldn't be needing money again, but here she is job hunting from one office to another.Anyway, Cedric was going to make Paige agree with the contract, he just needed to play his cards well. So many things will fall into place if Paige accepts the contracts, especially with his grandmother's birthday coming up, Cedric couldn't afford to offend the grandmother on her birthday. "Is there anyone there?" Cedric called out, and one of his security men came running in, "You called, Sir," The man spoke,"Yes, make sure you have someone follow her at all times, and let me know when she returns from her next interview, that will be her last." "As you wish, Sir," The man responded,"Go!" The man bowed and left the office. Paige didn't feel bad for rejecting the contract, it was a very ridiculous offer and she found it downright annoying that Cedric would even think of making such an offer to her, he was really out to make her life hell and he just makes it more obvious every day.Anyway, Paige was free from him now and didn't have any intentions of going back to him again. The most important for her had been to pay for the surgery bills of her mother, and thankfully that had been settled, she wasn't desperate anymore. The subsequent hospital bills that were coming up were bills she could afford if she finds a job, and she had enough time to find a job, so Paige was determined to find a job instead of signing away her life again to a contract that could ruin her life. She had one last interview for the week and it was over until the next week, she would spend the rest of the week in the hospital with her mother. She hoped for the best. She failed again.Paige was sad, she had attended interviews in different companies, and all of them had borne the same fruit of failure, more than ten interviews, and none of them favored her. She was downcasted as she left the company building just to find Cedric waiting for her outside the company building, Was he stalking her, she thought?"Another failure?" Cedric sneered, his tone was cold and his face was expressionless,"What do you want, Cedric?" Paige asked,"To convince you to accept my offer, I know you need the money and I also know all of the interviews you went to have been a flop, " Cedric shrugged, "You should consider my offer, the payment is more than the salary all these companies would offer anyways."Paige eyed Cedric suspiciously, there was something else in his eyes, Paige had thought that Cedric made her that offer just to humiliate her, but looking into his eyes right now, she saw something else, his eyes held some kind of uncertainty. What was he uncertain about? Paige was curious,"Why are you doing this, Cedric? You wanted this divorce for so long, don't you want to be with Marlynn again? Why are you doing this to me?" Paige questioned, "It's because of Grandma Tonia, she loves you, Paige, she asks for you every single day and I have no choice," Cedric admitted, "I promised her that you will be there for her birthday, so I have to convince you to agree to my offer, I don't have much time, Paige." "You could take Marlynn with you, I'm no longer part of your family, we are divorced. There is no need to lie to her," Paige said, Cedric shook his head, "No, you don't understand Paige, she only accepts you as her granddaughter-in-law, and she wants to see us together for her birthday and family get together, can you just put up this font for me and grandmother," "You are a heartless jerk, Cedric!" Paige swore, "Why did I end up entangling my life with a jerk like you?"Paige thought hard about the situation she was in, Grandma Tonia had been the only member of Cedric's family that had been nice to her, she was the only one who had been nice to her and Paige would feel so bad if she made the woman sad when she could have helped it. But then, something clicked in her brain as she thought deeper, her failed interviews…Cedric!"Cedric, answer me a question before I give you a final response, please tell me the truth, did you have anything to do with the consistent failure at my interviews?""Hmmm," Cedric hummed in agreement. Paige closed her eyes to calm herself down because she felt so angry, she wanted to strangle him. Maybe she should move away from the city, but what about her mother, maybe she could get into the hospital to write a transfer document for her mother…?"Unfortunately, Cedric saw through her thought, grinning evilly, he confronted her..."Don't even think about it, Paige, I can find you wherever…""What are you talking about?" Paige feigned ignorance and confusion, "I know exactly what is going through your mind, don't even think about it, I'll find you wherever you go," Cedric spoke up, "You cannot escape from me, I'll hunt the whole earth to find you if you think I'm joking, try leaving this town," Cedric added quietly, his hoarse voice penetrating Paige's senses and sending shivers through her body. Paige knew Cedric meant everyone he said, he wasn't the type to make empty promises, he had the connection and the ability to find anyone any way he wanted to. He was a dangerous man and had been trained from childhood for situations like this, his domineering and cold expression didn't falter even when he was on the negotiating side. Maybe, I should just accept the offer, there was nothing she would lose, maybe a little bit of her sanity but it wasn't a bad offer and maybe she could ask for more things and she could also make some adjustments to the contract since Cedric looked desperate."I really have no other choice, do I?" Paige inquired, Cedroc nodded, "Then before I agree, do I have the right to readjust the contract to be more favorable for me?""Yes, you can do that." "Okay!" Paige agreed,"Okay? What do you mean?""I mean Okay! I agree with your offer, I'll be at your place later to check out the contract," Paige said,Paige North and Cedric Brooks Paige was no longer feeling sore and humiliated like she had felt when Cedric had offered her the contract earlier. This was all for money, she wasn't going to let her feelings for Cedric ruin this opportunity for her, whatever she felt for Cedric was going to be buried and she is going to focus on this contract from now. As she skimmed her eyes through the contract, her eyes caught on something, the secrecy of their divorce, which was intriguing, "You don't want your grandmother or any of your relatives to know about our divorce?""Yes. Do you have an issue with that?" Cedric questioned, his face expressionless, voice hard and eyes cold and it made Paige wonder if this was a negotiation or an arrest warrant. But keeping their divorce a secret was something that confused Paige, clearly, the number one reason Cedric had divorced her was so he could be with Marlynn. If they hide the fact that they were divorced, then how would it be possible for both of
Paige North and Cedric Brooks "Cedric…?" Paige muttered as she looked up to meet Cedric's eyes in surprise. "What are you doing here?" She asked,"Why? I can't be here because you are here?" He asked her mockingly, keeping his eyes on the young man who was flickering his eyes between him and Paige curiously. So the man doesn't even know who he was then?Great!"Aren't you going to introduce me to your friend?" Cedric asked,Paige shook her head after glaring at Cedric, it was obvious she was angry and embarrassed by whatever stunt Cedric was trying to pull right that moment."Of course, Cedric." She grinned mischievously, a look that Cedric was totally unaware of, he was too focused on the man. Paige had noticed that and she decided to take advantage of the situation. "Forgive my manners, This is Mr. Rains. He was a senior in my former place of work where I worked before our marriage," She rolled her eyes before she continued, "Well, he was also a suitor back then and only stopped
Cedric…?" Paige drawled unamused by the situation that Cedric was creating, "What are you doing right now? You can't just randomly invite my guest to your party without my consent!" "Yes, I can and I'm going to do it. Besides, it's not a big deal, right Mr Rain?" He glanced at the man who was staring at the couple in bewilderment, "Yes, it's not a big deal and I don't mind the invitation at all," Mr Rain answered, which was a bad idea in Paige's book. She knew exactly what Cedric was doing and she didn't want to give him the platform to do that. But it was kind of too late,"Besides, " Mr Rain continued, I told you that I want to get to know you more, so maybe this will be a perfect opportunity for that," He smiled as he admitted his thoughts to Paige who immediately stole a glance at Cedric and almost laughed when she saw the seething annoyance on his face.Oh, well, good riddance, she thought and took a sip of her drink. Seeing that look on Cedric's face spurred up something in her
PaigeShe could still hear muffled voices from downstairs as she shut the door, leaning back against it to keep herself from crumbling down the floor and bawling. After all these years, one would think that she would have gotten used to being treated like this by the mother of the only man she has ever loved but no, it hasn't ever been easy for her. She stayed in that position until she was calm enough to get her normal self back, “This is just a contract, you are no longer married to Cedric, this is just business, you are enduring this fr business,” She muttered several times to herself even though she knew there was little truth in those words. No, she isn't enduring this because of any contract or business, she is enduring it because somewhere in her heart, she is still holding onto the hope that maybe someday… She immediately sprung herself from the door when she heard footsteps approaching, and. hurried to the bed and sat there waiting in bated breath for Cedric, that was th
Paige“What is it, Paige? Eh? Did I lie?” Paige scoffed but ignored her, walking away from her and headed towards the gate where she could easily see Rains’ car, he would be picking her up in five. She could feel piercing eyes on her but she wasn't going to deal with that right now, her morning had already been foul when she woke up to an empty bed, and the sight she saw when she walked into the kitchen didn't do anything to help her mood. Right now, she just wanted to drown in a ridiculous amount of coffee to be able to function like a normal human being and not snap at the most, little inconvenient. Paige was so focused on her thoughts, rage, and worries that she didn't realize that not only had Cedric joined Marlynn outside and was watching her, but also, her ride had already pulled up in front of her. Her eyes were unfocused, staring distantly into nothing, her mind was blank and her heart was a jumbled mess of emotions. She yelped when Rain’s car horn sounded, “Are you o
Paige“What took you so long, Paige baby? I'm asking again because I've been waiting here for a long time, you know?” Cedric questioned, staring daggers at her, consciously avoiding the other man that accompanied her. As far as Cedric was concerned, this was a family moment and the man was just a stranger, an intruder and he was going to make sure the man knew that he wasn't welcome there. Those cold piercing eyes of his bore holes into Paige’s face and all Paige could feel at that moment was dread. “We stopped along the way to grab coffee, what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be ‘extremely’ busy?” Paige asked, emphasizing the extreme to get her point across, but Cedric shook his head. “I'm never too busy to spend time with my mother-in-law.”Lies! Paige wanted to scream, she knew Cedric didn't actually care, he was only acting like this because he felt threatened by Rain. Even though Paige didn't understand why the man felt threatened when he doesn't give two fucks
PaigeThe car ride to Grandma’s place was kind of quiet, tense, and awkward. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of Cedric humming an unfamiliar tune which had Paige side-eyeing a couple of times. Cedric only hums whenever he has achieved something significant and in this situation, Paige was quite confused as to what he could have possibly achieved that is leaving him in such a good mood, humming his breath away while she watched the city trying to think about the reason grandma didn't call her directly. All the times Grandma has asked to see her, she has made it a mission to call her directly, she has checked their cell phone a good number of times, and she is perfectly sure she hasn't missed a call or a text message from her. Paige tried to ignore it, maybe it was just a coincidence, the woman was an elder and could call on her at any time and through any means, but she couldn't ignore it and Cedric’s consistent hums didn't do anything to help, it just added to he
Paige With two cups of coffee in hand, Paige scans the room to find Rain; it doesn't take long before she spots the black-haired man sitting by the corner near the window of the restaurant. “Peace offering?” She says, causing the other man to chuckle, “I told you I wasn't angry. You didn't have to,”“Well, I felt bad, so just enjoy the coffee, besides I needed it too.”“Stressed?” Paige nodded, “You have no idea, the party is in less than twenty-four hours and I’m not sure I'm ready to attend. I wish I didn't have to,”“Well, I received an anonymous warning not to show up at the party.” Paige gaped at him in shock, “Who would do that?”Rain shrugged, “I was hoping you would have a clue,” Paige shook her head, “I have no idea who will go so low, are you sure it was meant for you? You were invited to the party by Cedric himself and I know him enough to know that if he didn't want you to show up at the party, he would have informed you himself.”“I'm just surprised because no one apa
PaigeIt was already dark outside when Paige woke up from her deep slumber again, she lay awake on the bed discombobulated by her environment before memories of earlier that morning came flooding her senses again. She glanced around the room and realized that she was in fact alone, did she dream that? Or did Cedric actually show up, hugging her and loving her the way he did? It was so confusing to Paige because there was nobody around to see, so he didn't need to go out of his way to do that. But he did, and Paige loved it and now she is confused if she was dreaming or it actually happened. She knew she wouldn't have answers by sulking on the bed, so she groaned as she pushed herself out of the bed, threw on a bathrobe that sat on the edge of the bed and folded neatly and Paige’s gaze lingered on the material wondering how it got there. “Urgh, this is why I hate taking afternoon naps, I barely remember anything after I wake,” she muttered to herself as she made her way to the kitc
PaigeStanding on the balcony of Grandma’s residential home, sipping on the warm tea she woke up to see by her bedside, hoping it would numb the constant pounding in her head while she tried to recount her memories of what the fuck happened last night. It’s so weird that she can't seem to recollect anything reasonable or tangible, just some floaty flashes with Cedrica and Rain, aside from that, there is nothing. Paige was so lost in thought that she didn't hear when her room door opened and didn't notice the presence of Cedric entering the room until the latter had his hands wrapped around her bosom and head nuzzled in her hair. “Hi,” Cedric hummed, kissing her hair and ignoring the way Paige’s body tensed in his hold, “You should still be sleeping, why are you out here?”“My alarm woke me up, I couldn't go back to sleep again,” she explained and Cedric hummed in understanding, “What are you still doing here? You should be at the office,”“I took the day off.”“Cedric?”“Hmmm,”“W
PaigeA fleeting expression crossed Cedric’s face that Paige couldn't identify. She only had a few seconds to process it before Cedric leaned forward and kissed her. It was one of those long kisses that Cedric usually kissed her whenever they were in Grandma’s presence. Nevertheless, it didn't stop her from feeling all warm and gooey inside, and she wrapped herself around Cedric, in a lame attempt to hide how jittery she was feeling. She wouldn't do this on a normal day or situation, right now they were trying to please Grandma. They are husband and wife right now, so they had to act accordingly. After a few seconds, Paige wriggled out of his hold, but not without pressing a chase kiss on his lips. She was about to excuse him to get a drink so that he could attend to his guest, so he could go to Marlynn but just as she was about to walk away, Cedric grabbed her back, pushing her against him until she was snuggling into his chest, an arm resting over Paige’s waist.
