His words lingered in the space between us, hanging like a heavy mist, thick and unyielding. I could almost see the unspoken thoughts swirling behind his eyes, like shadows of a storm brewing just beyond the horizon.

He was smiling and seemed to be in a good mood, but there was something deeper—an undercurrent of emotion that was darker, more complicated.

It was as if he was holding back a tidal wave of truth, and I was left standing on the shore, waiting for it to crash.

I wanted to ask him a hundred questions, to open the doors of his mind and let the truth spill out.

But instead, I nodded a small, silent gesture that gave him the space to speak at his own pace. I hoped that by not pushing, he would feel safe enough to tell me everything when he was ready. My heart pounded in anticipation of what he might reveal.
