“We’ve investigated what happened to her right after finding her,” he began, his voice low but steady as he stepped closer to me.

His presence was grounding, but his words sent a chill through my veins. “It seems like rogues were the ones who did this to her, but…we caught another scent.”

I swallowed hard, trying to keep my voice from trembling, but it betrayed me anyway. “What scent?” I asked, the words almost catching in my throat.

Matt hesitated, his eyes darkening with something I couldn’t quite place before he let out a heavy sigh. “A scent from the Cloud Pack,” he revealed slowly, each word weighing heavily in the air between us.

“There are flowers that grow specifically in their territory...That’s what I smelled.” His words made my heart race, thudding against my ribcage like it was trying to escape.
