Ava wandered through the quiet walls of the mansion, the warmth from her morning coffee doing little to ease the sense of distance lingering between her and Alexander. Their night together had been more than she expected—more than she thought he could have cared . Yet, his cool dismissal that morning left her wondering if it had meant anything to him at all.

As she approached his study, she heard low, muffled voices from the slightly ajar door. Curious, she hesitated, her hand hovering over the knob.

“...No, I don’t think it’s Linda,” Alexander’s deep voice said. “She’s been loyal for years. This lead doesn’t make sense.”

A second voice, one she recognized as Old Man Stan, responded cautiously. “With respect, Alex, loyalty can be deceiving. The connection to the waitress is there—clear as day. I think you should investigate further.”

Ava’s breath caught in her throat. Linda? Waitress? What connection? She pressed herself closer to the wall, her pulse quickening.

“I said drop it,” Alex

The clock ticked steadily on the wall, the veins, the blinding fear when the men cornered her. And Alexander—his face dark with rage as he stormed in, a protective force shielding her from harm. But now, hours later, that protective moment felt like a distant memory. The man who had shielded her from those predators seemed like a figment of her imagination, overshadowed by the Alexander she knew all too well: cold, distant, and utterly indifferent. The sound of the door creaking open jolted her from her thoughts. She stood abruptly, smoothing the wrinkles from her dress as Alexander entered. He looked as composed as ever, his tie slightly loosened, his sharp features unreadable.“Did you find anything?” Ava asked, her voice breaking the heavy silence.Alexander set his briefcase down on the table, letting out a tired sigh. “Not much. The investigation suggests it was just a careless mistake by one of the waitresses. Someone probably slipped something into your drink without thinking.”

The morning sun filtered through the delicate lace curtains of the grand living room as Grandpa Pascal prepared to leave. Ava stood near the door, her hands clasped nervously in front of her, her heart heavy at the thought of his departure.“You’ve done well, Ava,” Grandpa Pascal said with a warm smile, his kind eyes crinkling at the corners. “But now, it’s time for you and Alexander to figure this out. No relationship thrives without effort from both sides.”Ava nodded, though her throat tightened. His words were meant to reassure, yet they left her feeling exposed. She glanced toward Alexander, who stood a few feet away, his face a mask of polite indifference. His posture was relaxed, his hands buried in his pockets as if he were merely waiting for this interaction to conclude.“Take care of her, Alexander,” Grandpa Pascal said firmly, his tone carrying a warning beneath its warmth.“Of course, Grandpa,” Alexander replied smoothly, his voice devoid of genuine sentiment. As the door

Ava’s mornings had become her sanctuary, a precious reprieve from the invisible wall that separated her and Alexander. As the first rays of light painted the bedroom, she slipped out of bed quietly, not wanting to disturb him. It was a ritual now—her way of keeping the peace in a marriage she’d vowed to make work.In the kitchen, she prepared his breakfast with care. Though Alexander rarely acknowledged her efforts, she found solace in the simple act of doing something for him. Perhaps, she thought, one day he’d notice. But today, Alexander did notice. He emerged from the bedroom earlier than usual, his tie slung loosely around his neck, his hair still damp from a quick shower. Ava paused, startled to see him there.“You’re up early,” she said, her voice soft.“I have a meeting,” he replied, his tone neutral. But his gaze lingered on the table.A plate of freshly made omelets, toast, and a cup of his favorite coffee sat waiting for him. Ava’s heart fluttered with a mix of hope and anx

Alexander had never felt so numb in his life. The moment he had discovered the truth about Ava’s sacrifice—her giving him her eye—he felt a surge of regret and guilt that swallowed him whole. But nothing could have prepared him for the blow that came next.It started as a normal visit to the hospital. Alarms blared, nurses and doctors rushed past him in a blur, and the smell of smoke filled the air.A fire had broken out in the ward where Ava had been recovering. His heart dropped. • My Ex Husband Wants Me Back    Chapter 32

Three years had passed since Ava’s disappearance, but to Alexander, it felt like a lifetime. The fire that had destroyed the hospital where Ava had been recovering—the same fire that had stolen her from him—was still a wound he couldn’t touch without bleeding. He had come to understand the emptiness that had settled in his chest, a void that had only grown with each passing day.In the days after the fire, Alexander had thrown himself into work, pretending to bury the guilt, the heartbreak, the regret. But it was impossible to avoid the truth. He had made a terrible mistake. Ava had sacrificed everything for him—her career, her health, her love. And what had he given her in return? A cold marriage, neglect, and the ultimate betrayal when he had chosen Linda over her. Now, as the years went by, that choice haunted him, and Alexander was determined to make things right, even if it meant swallowing his pride and facing the painful truth. He had spent countless hours, months even, seeking

Three years had passed since Ava disappeared, but for Alexander Pascal, every day without her felt like an eternity. Now, as he stood before her door, the world around him blurred into insignificance. His hand lingered on the edge of the doorframe where she had left him standing moments ago, waiting for her answer. And then, like the faintest crack of light in a dark tunnel, she stepped aside.“Come in,” she said, her voice even, neither inviting nor dismissive.Alexander hesitated before crossing the threshold. It was the first time he’d seen her in years. Ava’s hair was shorter, her posture straighter, her eyes harder—but they were still the same eyes that had once looked at him with an unguarded love he’d taken for granted. Inside, the air was warm and faintly scented with lavender. It was nothing like the cold, sterile penthouse they had once shared.Ava motioned to a modest couch. “Whatever you came to say, say it.”Her tone was clipped, a stark contrast to the warmth of her home

  • My Ex Husband Wants Me Back    Chapter 34

Ava had always found solace in the quiet hours after a long day at the hospital. The rhythmic beeping of machines, the hushed voices of her colleagues, and the sterile scent of the surgical ward were familiar, almost comforting. Since leaving Alexander, she had poured herself into her work, earning a reputation as one of the most skilled and empathetic doctors in the city. She had become a fixture at St. Michael's Hospital, her expertise and compassion lauded by her colleagues and patients alike. But the accolades, the praise, none of it filled the hollow space inside her that had once been occupied by the love she’d thought was real. Despite her success, Ava couldn’t entirely escape the shadows of her past. The memories of Alexander—their life together, the pain of betrayal, and the loss of their child—haunted her in quiet moments. But she had learned to push them aside. The past was behind her. She wasn’t the same woman she had been four years ago. And yet, there were times whe

Few weeks LaterThe gala hall was alive with the sparkle of luxury, reporters mingling with socialites, all eyes on the glittering figures in the crowd. The low hum of chatter filled the luxurious lounge of the hotel as Ava entered, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. She scanned the room, her gaze locking onto Linda almost instantly. Seated at the center of a small group, Linda exuded confidence, her laughter ringing out like a bell as she entertained her entourage.Ava’s presence didn’t go unnoticed. The moment Linda’s sharp eyes landed on her, the laughter stopped. A flicker of surprise crossed her face, quickly masked by a cool smirk.“Well, if it isn’t Mrs. Pascal,” Linda drawled, rising gracefully from her chair. Her tone was syrupy sweet, but the underlying venom was unmistakable. “To what do I owe this unexpected pleasure?”Ava stepped forward, her chin held high. “We need to talk. Privately.”Linda’s brow arched in mock surprise. “Oh? This sounds serious. Ladies, if you’ll excuse me.” She gestured to her companions, who hesitated before reluctantly dispersing.Once they were alone, Linda’s mask of civility dr

The quiet hum of the bathroom fan was the only sound between them as Alexander emerged from the shower, his movements relaxed but purposeful. Ava, standing by the vanity with the phone still clutched tightly in her hand, barely glanced up as he wrapped a towel around his waist. Her thoughts were a chaotic storm, Linda’s cutting words replaying in her mind like a broken record.Alexander, ever observant, caught the subtle stiffness in her posture. “Everything okay?” he asked, running a hand through his damp hair.Ava forced a neutral expression, slipping his phone onto the counter. “Linda called,” she said simply, her tone clipped. His movements stilled for a fraction of a second before he picked up the phone, his brows furrowing slightly. “What did she want?”“She didn’t say,” Ava replied, crossing her arms over her chest. “Just that it was urgent.”Alexander sighed, placing the phone face down without returning the call. “I’ll deal with it later,” he said, his voice calm but dismissi

Ava was in the middle of tidying up the living room when the sound of a car pulling into the driveway caught her attention. She glanced toward the window, a flicker of surprise crossing her face as she saw Alexander's car parked ahead of schedule. He was early—far earlier than he usually was for their tense dinners. The moment felt different, charged with anticipation. But as she stood there, her heart racing for reasons she couldn’t quite explain, she quickly masked the smile that crept to her lips.It wasn’t like her to feel this way. She'd spent so much time guarding her emotions, building walls between them, but something about tonight felt different. Maybe it was the idea of finally addressing the issues that had been quietly growing between them. Maybe it was the unexpected chance for them to reconnect without the weight of their families hovering over them. Either way, she couldn’t let herself get too hopeful.A moment later, Alexander knocked softly on the door, and without wa

The morning after the storm, Ava woke with a heaviness that had settled deep into her chest. The rain had stopped, but the remnants of the night still lingered—both the storm outside and the one inside her. She lay there, staring at the ceiling, her thoughts a jumble of old emotions and new doubts.Alexander was in the next room, likely still asleep. His presence was a strange comfort, but it also made her question everything she thought she knew about herself. Hadn’t she moved on from him? Hadn’t she convinced herself that she could be happy without him?But seeing him again had opened a door she thought was sealed shut. His apology, his vulnerability—things she had never thought she would hear from him—had cracked her defenses wide open. It wasn’t just the words, though. It was the way he had looked at her. How could she ignore that?Ava sighed, sitting up. She needed space, time to think without him watching her every move. As she moved toward the bathroom, her phone buzzed on the

Ava had spent the past three years building a life she could be proud of, but tonight, she allowed herself a rare indulgence—attending a prestigious charity gala. Alexander. Her heart skipped a beat. He stood across the room, looking sharper than she remembered. But when he had first reached out, there was no joy, no warmth in her response. Only distance. She had spoken to him, but each word felt like a wall she was putting up between them. The first time he had messaged her, apologizing for everything—what he had done, what he hadn’t done, how he had failed her—she hadn’t responded. Not for days. When she finally did, it was brief.“It’s over, Alexander. We are over.”That had been the first blow. It hurt, more than he had expected, but he couldn’t stop himself. He kept reaching out. He called, he messaged, he wrote letters. He was still dressed in his tailored suit, though his tie was slightly loosened, giving him a more approachable look.Ava stood, clutching her phone. “You didn’t have to come so fast.
