“I’m just a receptionist, so the company doesn’t care what I do on the side,” Bessie said with a shrug, her tone casual but her eyes sharp. “A few coworkers know, but honestly, no one’s perfect. I have to do what I need to do to take care of my family.”

Alex leaned back in his chair, studying her. “So, you want me to make it 20,000?” he asked, his voice calm but with a hint of challenge.

Bessie stared at him, her eyebrows shooting up. “Are you serious?” she asked, her voice a mix of disbelief and suspicion.

“Say what’s on your mind,” Alex said, his gaze steady. “And stop giving me that look.”

“This… this feels too good to be true,” Bessie said slowly, crossing her arms. “You must really want to punish me or something.”

Alex smirked, leaning forward slightly. “I’ve had a long day, and honestly, I might just use you as a stress reliever if you keep staring at me like that.”

Bessie’s eyes narrowed, but there was a flicker of amusement in them. “You must have a lot of money to throw aroun

Bessie stared at Alex, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as the corner of his lips curved into a genuine smile. “Help you?” she repeated, her voice tinged with skepticism. “How? With what? Don’t tell me you’re going to blackmail me now just because I took 20,000 from you. Gosh, I shouldn’t have trusted you.”Alex raised his hands in a calming gesture, stepping closer to her. “Can you just relax for a second? I may be a lot of things, but I don’t go back on my word. Threatening you would be childish, and I’m not that kind of person. I’m serious about being genuine friends with you.”Bessie narrowed her eyes, still wary. “Then what do you want from me? What can I possibly help you with?”Alex took a deep breath, his expression turning serious. “I might as well just confess.”“You better do,” Bessie muttered, folding her arms across her chest.“I came here for business and was supposed to leave tomorrow morning,” Alex began. “But today, I ran into someone.”Bessie rolled her eyes. “What

Genevieve’s POVGenevieve stood frozen in place, her face a mask of confusion and frustration. She hated the sight of Alex sitting there, his smug smirk plastered across his face. It took every ounce of her self-control not to lash out at him. She wished there was a way to wipe that arrogant expression off his face, but for now, she had to keep her composure. She had no idea what Alex was doing here, but she could tell it wasn’t for anything good. She had expected him to cause trouble, but she never imagined he would show up at her office, of all places.Beside Alex sat a man she didn’t recognize, dressed in a sharp blue suit. Alex Woods clenched his jaw as he pulled out his phone, his grip tightening around the device when he saw the name flashing across the screen. "Jami." A slow burn of frustration settled in his chest. He did not need anyone to tell him who it was. He already knew. For a split second, he considered rejecting the call or smashing the phone against the nearest surface, but the nagging thought at the back of his mind stopped him. His son. He had to know where he was. That mattered more than his anger, more than his pride.Genevieve’s voice cut through his thoughts. "Give me my phone." She was calm, too calm. And he hated it.Alex turned to her, his dark eyes filled with an unspoken challenge. "You told me Jasper is not with him, so why is this bastard calling you?" He needed answers. Now."Hey, babe

I have had better moments than that, and if I have been lost in thought, I promise you, it is not because of you.”“You know I am not going to believe that, do you not?”“You never believe anything I say, so why should I be bothered?”“I am glad you made that clear. We both know you have not been with another man for a long time. And before you get angry, do not think I am saying this to insult you. The thought of it gives me the strength to keep fighting for you, and I am not going to stop.”“Do not ever claim that what happened between us was a mistake because I will prove you wrong if you do.”“How?” she challenged, folding her arms and watching him closely.Alex chuckled, his lips curling into a knowing smile. “I miss this. But what hurt him the most was the look in her eyes. Pure hatred."You are being unreasonable," he said under his breath, swallowing the lump in his throat.Victoria folded her arms. "How? You said you wanted my forgiveness, and I gave it to you.""Only so you could throw me out.""Exactly." Her voice was steady, firm. "I do not want you here, Alex. Do not make me repeat myself."Alex clenched his fists. "This is the problem with people like you. You think you can just throw someone away when you are done with them. The room was quiet, save for the soft rustle of fabric and the faint sound of breathing. Alex’s eyes locked onto Gennie’s, his gaze intense, unwavering. He could feel the tension between them, thick and unspoken, like a storm waiting to break. She was trying to pull away, her hands pressing against his chest, but he wasn’t having it. Not tonight. Not after everything. He leaned in, his lips brushing against hers in a way that was both gentle and demanding. Gennie’s resistance faltered for a moment, and that was all the opening he needed.
