Cedric's POV

I gazed at Emmeline's unconscious form, my eyes fixed on her as the physician tended to her head injury. The physician's words barely registered, "She just needs plenty of rest, she'll be fine."

I hummed a response, my attention still focused on Emmeline. The physician bowed and departed, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

As sunrise cast its glow over the manor, the bustling sounds of the household staff filled the air. I hadn't slept a wink since Emmeline's return last night, my concern for her well-being unsettling.

Grace entered with a tray of food, bowing as she greeted me. "Greetings, my lord. How is Lady Emmeline today?"

I walked to the window, my eyes drifting toward the gardens. "Still unconscious, but the physician assures me she'll recover."

Grace sighed in relief. "Thank the goddess she's alright. I heard from our spy that the guests spent hours searching for her."

I turned to Grace, my interest piqued. "Is it done?"

Grace nodded. "Beta Colima informed me tha

EMMELINE'S POV Waking up beside Cedric had become a regular occurrence since my escape from Lord Carlos's manor. I felt a gentle kiss on my forehead and opened my eyes to find Cedric standing above me, a warm smile on his face."Good morning, mate," he said, his voice low and soothing.I muttered a greeting, my voice still husky from sleep. Cedric, on the other hand, looked every inch the noble lord in his shiny gold robe and black pants. He exuded an air of confidence and handsomeness that made my heart skip a beat."I'm heading to the pack borders," he informed me, turning to leave. "I'm not sure how long I'll be gone."I was taken aback by his consideration in keeping me informed about his plans. This newfound attitude was both endearing and unsettling. Our interactions had become surprisingly calm and normal, leaving my omega heart leaping with joy."Stay safe...mate," I whispered, hesitant to express my concern. But to my surprise, Cedric turned to me with a gentle smile. Cedric's POV Marci and I had spent several nights at the pack borders. I had received intel that a coven of witches was headed to my pack. I suspected it had to do with Juliet, who, even after undergoing a series of gruesome tortures, had refused to speak. It was both admirable and disheartening. If I could get someone like Juliet to work for me, I knew she would never betray me. However, it was disheartening because I needed to know what was coming for my pack. With a sigh, I headed back to the tent that the Warriors had set up for me, with Marci trailing behind me. "My lord, are you sure about this information?" Marci asked, concern etched on his face. "We've been camping here for days."I nodded adamantly. "Grace doesn't say things she's not sure about!" Marci sighed in frustration. "I'm just concerned because we don't have enough resources to camp here another night." I stomped my foot on the ground. "Fine, then tell the Warriors to gather the tent. We're leaving." Marci grinne

EMMELINE'S POV The crowd held its collective breath as the figure stumbled out of the cage. It resembled a werewolf, but its body was grotesquely twisted, with half of it rotting away. The creature's shriek was like nothing we'd ever heard before - it sent shivers down our spines.Cedric stepped forward, his eyes devoid of emotion. "What are you?" he asked, his voice firm but laced with a hint of curiosity. The creature lifted its head, making strange, inhuman noises. Cedric called out to Marci, who promptly handed him a sword. Blood oozed from the creature's eyes as it mouthed a word to Grace, who looked like she was about to collapse."What is it saying?" Cedric asked, his curiosity getting the better of him. Tears streamed down Grace's face as she struggled to answer."It's a rogue wolf, my lord... Lord Santo's experiments turned him into this..." Grace muttered, her voice trembling as she looked at me with sadness.I felt a lump form in my throat as I bit my lip to hold back tear

Cedric's POV Marci announced, "I have prepared the horses." I closed my book, and we both headed to the gates. Today was the emergency Council meeting Marci had arranged. It had been three days since the attack; the pack had moved on, and all activities continued as if nothing had happened. As rogue wolves, we aren't as attached to each other as other werewolves. So, it doesn't take long for us to move on when a pack mate dies. My horse, Kaelos, was standing next to Marci's horse. I smiled as I petted his ears, and he neighed at my touch."Hello, you taunting beast," I teased, as he leaned into my touch. These past months had been hectic, and I hadn't had time to go running with my horse. We mounted the horses and set off to the Council house, located in the main town of Elgin."It feels just like old times, eh?" Marci chimed, as our horses ran at the same pace. Kaelos, being a show-off, ran faster when he heard Marci's words. I was grateful; I didn't have the energy to listen to le

EMMELINE'S POV As the weeks passed since the attack, time seemed to fly by in a whirlwind. Cedric dedicated himself to training with the pack members, while I retreated to the safety of my room. Fearful of the pack's hostility, I locked myself away, seeking refuge from their sharp words.Cedric, however, showed kindness by sending Grace to fetch more oil and paper for my paintings. This small gesture kept me sane, providing a sense of purpose amidst the chaos.A knock on the door broke the silence, and I hastily put away my paintbrush. I walked to the door, unlocking it to reveal Cedric standing before me. It was a shock to see him, as we hadn't spoken in over two weeks."Are you going to let me in or keep staring at me like some creep?" Cedric asked, his brows furrowed in amusement.I apologized, stepping aside to let him enter. After locking the door behind him, Cedric walked straight to my bed, removing his shoes before sitting down. I stood awkwardly, unsure of what to say or do,

EMMELINE'S POV As morning dawned, Cedric lay beside me, his peaceful slumber a stark contrast to the turmoil that often surrounded him. The warm sunlight dancing across his face highlighted the relaxed lines of his features, and for a moment, I forgot about the dangers and responsibilities that weighed upon us.I gently raised my head, drinking in the sight of him. His chest rose and fell with each steady breath, and his lips, usually set in a firm line, were slightly parted. It was a rare, vulnerable moment, and my heart swelled with emotion. But as the sun continued its ascent, guilt pricked at my conscience. The pack's training session was about to begin, and Cedric needed to be there. I lightly tapped his shoulder, hesitant to disturb him. "Cedric... it's already sunset."He stirred, his eyes fluttering open as he released a tired sigh. For a moment, he simply stared at me, his gaze sleepy but affectionate. Then, a dazzling grin spread across his face. "Good morning, mate."As I

EMMELINE'S POV Lord Devlin's grin grew wider as he approached me, his eyes glinting with amusement. "We meet again, Lady Emmeline," he said, his voice low and smooth. Grace stepped forward, her eyes flashing with warning as she positioned herself between me and Lord Devlin. He chuckled, the sound sending a shiver down my spine. "Lady Emmeline, I saw you were stranded, so I decided to help. Please, get in the carriage, and let me drop you off." Grace turned to me, her brow furrowed in concern, and I nodded reassuringly. She stepped back, her eyes never leaving Lord Devlin's face.I forced a smile as I walked closer to Lord Devlin. "Indeed, we are stranded, but it would be unfair to burden you with such mundane tasks." Lord Devlin's expression didn't waver. "It would be a pleasure, my lady. Besides, it's nightfall already, and no coachman will come to this lane."His words were persuasive, but I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. Lord Devlin's gaze seemed to bore into my skin,

Cedric's POV The sun was already up, and the birds were chirping when I woke. I turned to Emmeline, who was still deep in sleep beside me. I ran my hand through her curly hair, and she leaned closer to me instinctively. I smiled as I pecked her lips and gently moved her head from my chest. I climbed down from the bed and picked up my clothes from the ground, covering Emmeline with the blanket.Wearing my clothes, I walked out of the room, aware of the busy schedule ahead – training and a meeting with Ava and her father. Neither of which held my interest. Upon entering my room, I found a prepared bath and food waiting for me. I quickly undressed and stepped into the bathtub. After my bath, I dressed and skipped breakfast, heading straight to the field. Marci and a few pack warriors were already there, but it was surprising to see so few. The sun had already begun to set – where were the rest of my warriors?“Greetings, Lord Cedric,” the warriors chimed as they bowed in respect. I or

EMMELINE'S POV “What! Does your name feel unfamiliar now?” she spat, glaring at me with nothing but disgust.Disgust. A look I hadn’t seen in a while not since I came to the Blood Moon pack. It hit harder than I expected.I shoved her hands off me roughly, my voice trembling. “I don’t know what you’re talking about…”Skylar let out a cold, amused laugh. “Emmeline Gray… don’t you think it’s a little too late to start playing dumb?”My heart thundered in my chest—part fear, part instinct telling me to run.“Don’t even think about it,” she growled, her eyes narrowing as she noticed the way my hands shook. Before I could react, she grabbed both wrists and twisted them behind my back, slamming me hard against the wall. The wind rushed out of me.I tried to struggle, but she was strong—too strong. A trained warrior.“What… what do you want?” I gasped, trying to kick her off, but it was useless. She sneered. “You don’t get to ask me anything, Gray’s little spawn.”Pain surged through my ar

EMMELINE'S POV “Come on, let’s go!” Belle squealed with excitement as she dragged me outside. I laughed, fixing my hair. From what I’d heard, tonight was the annual Lantern Celebration in the pack, it was a Dogar tradition. As we stepped into the courtyard, the rhythmic beat of drums and lively music filled the air. Down by the lake, people were lighting lanterns and scribbling their wishes onto them.“Guys, over here!” Quentin, my newly acquainted friend waved us over to an open spot by the lakeside. The festivities were in full swing under the night sky.“What took you two so long? The lanterns are almost gone! Luckily, I saved some for us,” Quentin scolded as we reached her.Belle gave me a playful smack on the back of the head. “It’s all her fault.”I scratched the back of my neck sheepishly as they both shot me mock glares. Then we all burst out laughing at our own silliness. We joined the queue, lanterns in hand. Belle passed me the ink and a small slip of paper.“Write your wi

EMMELINE'S POV My body froze, caught somewhere between shock and confusion as Devlin pulled away. He gave me a sly smile.“I’ve always wanted to do that,” he whispered near my ear.A shiver ran down my spine- not one of pleasure, but something else entirely. Devlin’s smile faded the moment he saw my face. “I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have…”I didn’t let him finish. I stood abruptly, the chair scraping back behind me, and bolted from the room like my feet were on fire. He didn’t follow. Maybe he understood that I needed space. Or maybe he just didn’t know what to say.I slammed the door shut behind me and locked it, then threw myself onto the bed. My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might burst through my chest. Why did he kiss me?I chewed on my fingernail, spiraling through a mess of thoughts. Does he actually like me?No. No, I couldn’t go there.I couldn’t let myself believe that—couldn’t believe anyone else would find me lovable. Not after what Cedric did. Not when my own m

EMMELINE'S POV I stared at the sky with a paintbrush in hand—I had requested a canvas from Devlin out of boredom. But unfortunately, I had no zeal to paint anymore. I sat there, staring blankly at the paper as if I had forgotten how to use a brush at all. With a sigh, I dropped it. It’s been like this since I left Elgin. No matter how hard I tried, every thought led back to Cedric—it was almost impossible not to think of him.I couldn’t understand the torture the moon goddess was putting me through. Why give me what others desire so deeply, only to make it feel like a curse? The worst part was that I still couldn't stop thinking about how the pack was faring… even after everything they did to me.A knock on the door pulled me out of my thoughts.“Come in. The door’s open,” I muttered, barely glancing up.Belle strolled in with a grin stretched across her face. I frowned immediately—days of being around Belle had taught me to be wary of that grin. It always meant she was up to someth

CEDRIC POV I watched the rain droplets as they fell into the fountain. The door creaked open, and Ava walked in—she had surprisingly been avoiding me.Without a word, she headed to the inner room to take off her wet clothes. I didn’t bother acknowledging her presence. My mind lingered on the memory of seeing her that night by the lake, talking to an unidentified man. By instinct, I’d started observing her more closely. I noticed she left the manor more often than anyone else.“Where were you?” I asked, turning to face her.Ava frowned, her glare sharp with fury. “It’s none of your business, Cedric!”I rolled my eyes at her outburst. If anyone had the right to raise their voice, it was me. But I needed to tread carefully—I still had no idea what the Council’s plan was.“With the witches ready for war, it’s dangerous to walk around so carelessly, don’t you think?”She scoffed. “As if you care about me, Cedric. Besides, the witches are no longer a threat. We’ve already subdued them.”Su

EMMELINE'S POV For a whole week, I hadn’t stepped out of my room. Belle had been kind enough to bring my meals, never asking too many questions, just offering small smiles and a few gentle words before disappearing again.Lord Devlin had come by more times than I could count—but I’d managed to avoid him every time. I still couldn’t wrap my head around it… he brought me here not just for safety, but to be his bride? It felt like betrayal all over again.A knock pulled me from my thoughts. “Matilda, it’s Belle,” her voice called softly through the door.I stood and opened it and there he was.Lord Devlin stood beside her, his eyes meeting mine, unreadable. I bit my lower lip, not sure what to say or how to act. I couldn’t slam the door in his face—not after all he’d done for me.So I forced a smile and stepped aside, letting them in. “Greetings, Lord Devlin.”He gave me a gentle nod, returning the greeting with that same calm smile that used to make me feel safe. CEDRIC POV My blood boiled as the last warrior returned with the same pathetic report.“I’m sorry, my Lord... we still can’t locate Lady Emmeline.”I was on him in a heartbeat, my hand closing around his throat like a vice. His eyes bulged as I lifted him off the ground, my voice low and venomous.“Keep searching for her,” I snarled. “Don’t return without her or I’ll skin you alive.”His legs kicked as he struggled for breath. I released him, and he collapsed to the floor, gasping.“Get out now!”He scrambled to his feet and ran like death itself was at his heels.I sighed, dragging a hand through my hair as I paced the room, boots striking the marble floor in an impatient rhythm. A full week of relentless searching. And still—nothing. No trace. No scent trail. No signs of struggle. Just... gone. After Ava's pathetic attempt at deception, I forced her to take me to the dungeon where she claimed Emmeline had been locked away. EMMELINE'S POV The journey to Dogar was far more stressful than I’d anticipated. The rain was relentless, drumming steadily against the carriage roof like an unending echo of my thoughts.I leaned against the carriage wall as the coachman pressed on through the downpour. Lord Devlin remained silent throughout the trip—lost in his own world, it seemed. His brooding expression mirrored the storm outside. My fingers tapped endlessly against the wooden paneling, a futile attempt to clear my thoughts of Cedric. But it wasn’t working. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t erase the image of his eyes when he told me he loved me.How could that look have been a lie?Maybe my father had been right all along. Maybe I was too naive to survive in Elgin. But then again… his actions had left me with no choice.“Are you alright, Emmeline?”Lord Devlin’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. CEDRIC POV I stood in my room, staring out the window as rain battered the rooftops of Elgin. It poured relentlessly, like the sky itself mourned the choices I’d made. The wine burned down my throat, but it did little to quiet the storm within me. The silence in the room was loud, oppressive.Ava’s help came with a price—marriage. To protect my pack, I agreed. It had to be done.I slipped the ring from my finger and tossed it into the cupboard without a second thought. There was no love in my heart for Ava. Not even a flicker. I knew what I did had shattered Emmeline, and though it gutted me, my pack would always come first.Still… I couldn’t shake the feeling that the Council had their own reasons for approving the union. Their timing, their push—it all reeked of manipulation. But I’d deal with them later.Right now, there was a war knocking at our gates, and I had to lead. When this is over… I’ll find Emmeline. I’ll fix what’s been broken. Even if it kills me.The door creaked open
