EMMELINE POV

I sat in my bunk bed, my mind reeling as Lord Cedric's words echoed in my head: "Become my concubine." It was a command, not a request.

Before I could respond, the pack delta, Marci, burst into the room, citing an emergency. Lord Cedric dismissed me, saying he'd request my presence later.

As I sat there, lost in thought, Elara entered the room. "What's bothering you? You've been sighing," she asked, eyeing me with concern. I forced a smile and shrugged. "It's nothing." Elara looked skeptical but didn't press the issue. She climbed up to her bunk bed, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I ran my fingers through my tangled curly blond hair, feeling a bit frazzled. The silence between us was palpable until Elara spoke up. "We're getting another roommate tomorrow."

Since Bertha and Bethany were beheaded, their beds have been vacant and I expected people to replace them. But not this soon though.

Elara leaned down so that she could face me, “aren't you curious to k

CEDRIC POV As I pulled away from the kiss, Emmeline's pupils dilated, her eyes locking onto mine with a desperation that bordered on madness. I yanked her closer, my fingers digging into her waist as our lips clashed in a frenzy of teeth and tongues. The world around us melted away, leaving only the two of us, suspended in a sea of desire."Call me master," I whispered, my breath hot against her ear. The words sent a shiver coursing through her body, and she arched into me, her moans growing louder.I licked the column of her neck, my teeth grazing the tender skin. The urge to mark her, to claim her as my own, was overwhelming, but I restrained myself, barely. "Say it," I growled, my fingers tangling in her hair as I pulled her head back.Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as she parted her lips, the scent of arousal wafting up to tease me. "Mas...ter..." The word was barely audible, but it was enough.I smirked, my hands slipping into her garment as she blushed a deep crimson

  • My Enemy, My Mate   CHAPTER NINE

EMMELINE POV For days, I had been packing the new belongings I'd received as Lord Cedric's concubine into his chambers, just as he had instructed me. The servants all gave me disapproving stares, but none dared confront me, fearing that Lord Cedric would behead them if they crossed me. As Elara and I finished packing, we sat on the bed, panting heavily. "This is the last of it," Elara told me. I used the back of my hand to wipe the sweat off my forehead. Elara turned to me with a curious glint in her eyes. "Everybody is saying that you have seduced Lord Cedric." I frowned, skeptical. "How could someone like me seduce Lord Cedric? He has seen so many women." Elara scoffed, "You're a fair lady, though due to circumstances, you had to serve as a maid in the manor. Your skin is soft as silk." I laughed at her words, but there was no denying the truth in them. Without bragging, I knew I stood out from the other servants in the manor - not just because of my physical appearance, but als

CEDRIC POV "Lord Cedric, the carriage has arrived," Marci informed me, pulling me out of my thoughts. I dismissed him with a wave as I left my room and walked to the waiting carriage outside. We were headed to Dowin to meet with Alpha Venus, the city's duke, who shared my hatred for the Council. I aimed to secure his alliance with my pack. If Lord Carlos decided to remove my pack from the treaty, I would need at least one alliance with a werewolf pack. The carriage was warm, thanks to the lamp inside, as winter had already set in in Dowin. I had chosen a plain carriage to avoid drawing attention to myself and blend in as a commoner.Marci and I climbed in, and the coachman urged the horses forward. My aunt would oversee the manor as my second-in-command until my return. Hours passed, and we remained on the road, but I could sense our proximity to Dowin due to the increasing cold."Any specific information I would need to know about Alpha Venus that will help us?" I asked Marci, seeki

EMMELINE POV The warm sunlight streaming through the window illuminated my face, and the sweet melody of birds chirping in the trees outside gently roused me from my slumber. I lay still for a moment, disoriented, before realizing I was still in bed, clad in the same attire I had worn the previous night. A flush of embarrassment spread across my cheeks as memories of the master's calloused hands on my bare skin flooded my mind.I shook my head vigorously, attempting to dispel the unwanted, sultry thoughts that clouded my mind. Gratitude washed over me as I realized I had awoken without the master's presence in my room. I wasn't sure how I would have handled the embarrassment of facing him after the events of the previous night.A soft knock at the door broke the silence, drawing me out of my reverie. I glanced towards the door, noticing that it wasn't locked. "Come in," I called out, my voice slightly husky from sleep.Elara entered with a bright smile, carrying a basin filled with

CEDRIC’S POVThe journey back to Elgin proved to be a grueling one, with the heavy snowfall in Dowin slowing our progress. Despite Venus's initial hostility, he had graciously provided us with a carriage, which had allowed us to take shelter at his manor the previous night. As I rode in the carriage, Marci noticed my chapped lips and handed me a luxurious fur coat. "My Lord, please wear this," he suggested. I gratefully accepted, wrapping the coat around me. The extra layer of warmth was a welcome relief.Given the simplicity of our carriage – deliberately chosen to avoid drawing attention to ourselves – there wasn't enough space for me to lie down. I stretched my legs out as far as I could, trying to get comfortable.Hours passed, and the carriage continued to move steadily along. Marci dozed off, his head bent forward. As the temperature rose, I shed the fur coat, no longer needing its warmth.I leaned forward, calling out to the coachman, "Hey, how much longer before we reach Elgin

  • My Enemy, My Mate   Chapter THIRTEEN

CEDRIC’S POV It's been two days since I rescued Emmeline from the dungeon, but to my surprise, she still hasn't woken up. The physician suspects poison, but strangely, she couldn't find any traces of it. I've kept Emmeline in my room, refusing to let anyone near her. I just can't trust that someone won't try to harm her.Just then, Alfred, my personal guard, interrupted my thoughts. "My Lord, Beta Colima is in the lounge, insisting on seeing you today."I've been avoiding my aunt, unsure if I can control my temper after what she did to Emmeline. "Tell her to leave," I instructed Alfred. "I'll see her when I'm ready."Alfred hesitated, his eyes narrowing as if there was something he wasn't telling me. "Speak, Alfred!" I commanded."Alpha Anthony Robbins of the Moonlight Pack is with her," he revealed."What!" I exclaimed, alarm rising within me. Why would my aunt invite a member of the Council to my manor without warning me? I dismissed Alfred, instructing him to inform our guests th

  • My Enemy, My Mate   CHAPTER FOURTEEN

EMMELINE 'S POV It had been days since I'd woken up, and my recovery process had taken longer than expected. I suspected poisoning due to the prolonged recovery time, but since no one had entered the dungeon after the guards locked it, I doubted my theory. Now back in my room in Lord Cedric's chambers, I felt relieved to no longer be under constant surveillance. "Lady Emmeline," Juliet said, bowing as she set the tray on the table.I smiled, turning to her. "Please, Juliet, just call me Emmeline. No need for formalities."Juliet let out a sigh of relief. "Thank the goddess! Calling you Lady Emmeline makes you seem old."I burst out laughing at her words. Only my parents and Nima had ever called me by my name; everyone else had addressed me as Lady Emmeline since childhood.Since my return to my room, Juliet had been serving me more often, and we'd grown acquainted. She wasn't a bad company, and I found her pleasant.Juliet helped me out of bed and handed me a cup of cinnamon tea, my

CEDRIC'S POV I settled into my throne, listening intently as Marci read out the message from Lord Carlos. The annual Blood Moon festival, a grand ball where supernatural creatures of Elgin mingled, was to take place tomorrow night. And I was invited."Why would he invite me?" I asked Marci, curiosity getting the better of me. As a rogue wolf, I was deemed a disgrace to the goddess and never received invitations to such ceremonious occasions.Marci folded the scroll, his expression thoughtful. "I'm certain he's up to something." I sighed, rubbing my forehead. It was too early for this headache.Marci's eyes widened as if a thought had struck him. "Why don't you ask Ava?" My frown deepened at the mention of her name. "And why would I do that?"Marci's tone was matter-of-fact. "We all know Ava fancies you, but she'd never admit it because you're a rogue." I shook my head. "I won't ask her anything. She's obviously spying for her father.”Marci opened his mouth to counter my words, but a

EMMELINE'S POV My body froze, caught somewhere between shock and confusion as Devlin pulled away. He gave me a sly smile.“I’ve always wanted to do that,” he whispered near my ear.A shiver ran down my spine- not one of pleasure, but something else entirely. Devlin’s smile faded the moment he saw my face. “I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have…”I didn’t let him finish. I stood abruptly, the chair scraping back behind me, and bolted from the room like my feet were on fire. He didn’t follow. Maybe he understood that I needed space. Or maybe he just didn’t know what to say.I slammed the door shut behind me and locked it, then threw myself onto the bed. My heart was pounding so hard it felt like it might burst through my chest. Why did he kiss me?I chewed on my fingernail, spiraling through a mess of thoughts. Does he actually like me?No. No, I couldn’t go there.I couldn’t let myself believe that—couldn’t believe anyone else would find me lovable. Not after what Cedric did. Not when my own m

EMMELINE'S POV I stared at the sky with a paintbrush in hand—I had requested a canvas from Devlin out of boredom. But unfortunately, I had no zeal to paint anymore. I sat there, staring blankly at the paper as if I had forgotten how to use a brush at all. With a sigh, I dropped it. It’s been like this since I left Elgin. No matter how hard I tried, every thought led back to Cedric—it was almost impossible not to think of him.I couldn’t understand the torture the moon goddess was putting me through. Why give me what others desire so deeply, only to make it feel like a curse? The worst part was that I still couldn't stop thinking about how the pack was faring… even after everything they did to me.A knock on the door pulled me out of my thoughts.“Come in. The door’s open,” I muttered, barely glancing up.Belle strolled in with a grin stretched across her face. I frowned immediately—days of being around Belle had taught me to be wary of that grin. It always meant she was up to someth

CEDRIC POV I watched the rain droplets as they fell into the fountain. The door creaked open, and Ava walked in—she had surprisingly been avoiding me.Without a word, she headed to the inner room to take off her wet clothes. I didn’t bother acknowledging her presence. My mind lingered on the memory of seeing her that night by the lake, talking to an unidentified man. By instinct, I’d started observing her more closely. I noticed she left the manor more often than anyone else.“Where were you?” I asked, turning to face her.Ava frowned, her glare sharp with fury. “It’s none of your business, Cedric!”I rolled my eyes at her outburst. If anyone had the right to raise their voice, it was me. But I needed to tread carefully—I still had no idea what the Council’s plan was.“With the witches ready for war, it’s dangerous to walk around so carelessly, don’t you think?”She scoffed. “As if you care about me, Cedric. Besides, the witches are no longer a threat. We’ve already subdued them.”Su

  • My Enemy, My Mate   chapter fourty five

EMMELINE'S POV For a whole week, I hadn’t stepped out of my room. Belle had been kind enough to bring my meals, never asking too many questions, just offering small smiles and a few gentle words before disappearing again.Lord Devlin had come by more times than I could count—but I’d managed to avoid him every time. I still couldn’t wrap my head around it… he brought me here not just for safety, but to be his bride? It felt like betrayal all over again.A knock pulled me from my thoughts. “Matilda, it’s Belle,” her voice called softly through the door.I stood and opened it and there he was.Lord Devlin stood beside her, his eyes meeting mine, unreadable. I bit my lower lip, not sure what to say or how to act. I couldn’t slam the door in his face—not after all he’d done for me.So I forced a smile and stepped aside, letting them in. “Greetings, Lord Devlin.”He gave me a gentle nod, returning the greeting with that same calm smile that used to make me feel safe. Belle walked in behind

  • My Enemy, My Mate   Chapter fourty four

CEDRIC POV My blood boiled as the last warrior returned with the same pathetic report.“I’m sorry, my Lord... we still can’t locate Lady Emmeline.”I was on him in a heartbeat, my hand closing around his throat like a vice. His eyes bulged as I lifted him off the ground, my voice low and venomous.“Keep searching for her,” I snarled. “Don’t return without her or I’ll skin you alive.”His legs kicked as he struggled for breath. I released him, and he collapsed to the floor, gasping.“Get out now!”He scrambled to his feet and ran like death itself was at his heels.I sighed, dragging a hand through my hair as I paced the room, boots striking the marble floor in an impatient rhythm. A full week of relentless searching. And still—nothing. No trace. No scent trail. No signs of struggle. Just... gone. After Ava's pathetic attempt at deception, I forced her to take me to the dungeon where she claimed Emmeline had been locked away. But the room was empty- completely abandoned, not even a sp

  • My Enemy, My Mate   Chapter fourty Three

EMMELINE'S POV The journey to Dogar was far more stressful than I’d anticipated. The rain was relentless, drumming steadily against the carriage roof like an unending echo of my thoughts.I leaned against the carriage wall as the coachman pressed on through the downpour. Lord Devlin remained silent throughout the trip—lost in his own world, it seemed. His brooding expression mirrored the storm outside. My fingers tapped endlessly against the wooden paneling, a futile attempt to clear my thoughts of Cedric. But it wasn’t working. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t erase the image of his eyes when he told me he loved me.How could that look have been a lie?Maybe my father had been right all along. Maybe I was too naive to survive in Elgin. But then again… his actions had left me with no choice.“Are you alright, Emmeline?”Lord Devlin’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. I turned to him with a smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes.“I’ll be alright,” I replied, trying to convince m

  • My Enemy, My Mate   Chapter fourty Two

CEDRIC POV I stood in my room, staring out the window as rain battered the rooftops of Elgin. It poured relentlessly, like the sky itself mourned the choices I’d made. The wine burned down my throat, but it did little to quiet the storm within me. The silence in the room was loud, oppressive.Ava’s help came with a price—marriage. To protect my pack, I agreed. It had to be done.I slipped the ring from my finger and tossed it into the cupboard without a second thought. There was no love in my heart for Ava. Not even a flicker. I knew what I did had shattered Emmeline, and though it gutted me, my pack would always come first.Still… I couldn’t shake the feeling that the Council had their own reasons for approving the union. Their timing, their push—it all reeked of manipulation. But I’d deal with them later.Right now, there was a war knocking at our gates, and I had to lead. When this is over… I’ll find Emmeline. I’ll fix what’s been broken. Even if it kills me.The door creaked open

EMMELINE'S POV Tears streamed down my face as I stumbled into the room. My legs gave out, and I collapsed to my knees. The pain hit me all at once; it was sharp, suffocating. Like someone had reached into my chest and ripped out my heart with their bare hands.“Why?” I gasped, my voice hoarse and cracked. “Why did you make me believe you loved me?”Was this my punishment for my father's sins? Maybe I was never meant to be happy. Maybe the goddess had never forgiven me.The door slammed open behind me, and I flinched. I turned slowly, dread sinking into my stomach.Cedric.He stood in the doorway, breathing hard, eyes locked on mine. My breath caught in my throat.I let out a bitter laugh. “Don’t,” I hissed as he bent down to help me. “Don’t touch me.”I shoved his hands away, anger surging up through the heartbreak. “What, Cedric? Did you come here to finish the job? Or maybe just laugh in my face?”His jaw tightened, fists clenching at his sides, but he said nothing. My eyes dropped

  • My Enemy, My Mate   Chapter fourty

EMMELINE'S POV I stared out the window with a soft smile. Ever since Cedric’s confession, I’d been in such a good mood. It felt like the goddess had finally taken pity on me… or maybe, just maybe, I’d finally redeemed myself.Grinning, I dipped my brush into the paint again and brought it to the canvas. I’d been working on a portrait—one of Cedric and me by the lake. I couldn’t shake the look on his face when he told me he loved me. It had etched itself into my memory so deeply, I had to capture it.I was so lost in thought I didn’t even hear the footsteps until there was a knock on the table beside me. I jumped slightly and rushed to move the painting.I carried it to the inner room and quickly draped a sheet over it. I didn’t want anyone seeing it—not yet. It felt too personal, too precious. When I turned around, a smile stretched across my face at the sight of Cedric standing in the doorway, holding a tray of food.I raised a teasing brow. “A lord bringing food for this lowly con
