Taylor had been true to her word of keeping distractions away from Meredith so she could focus on her project. That being said she did send a picture of Edward Maxwell to Meredith when she woke up along with heart emojis and a text that said āFor motivation purposes. GL on your presentation.ā Edward had piercing green eyes and dark brown hair with a perfectly groomed matching dark brown beard. His nose was angled just right so as to not be overpowering but not hidden behind such a majestic beard. He was wearing a pinstriped suit with brown derby shoes and his tie and top three buttons were undone exposing his a little chest hair that had peeked up from beneath his shirt. He was built but not popping out of his suit built. He wasnāt as muscular as Ben the guard but he definitely worked out. Meredith could see why Taylor called him one of The Davids
It was Friday and Meredith, Karen, and Greg werenāt actually giving a presentation so much as having a meeting with Mr. Hubert before sending their designs to Edward Maxwellās office. Meredith wouldnāt even be seeing Edward Maxwell let alone any of his staff. Greg was going to be making the delivery before lunch and picking up any notes needed at the end of the day.
Meredith had prepared the fonts and worked with Karen all of Thursday to get it just right and set into the ads perfectly. Meredith pulled up Adobe Illustrator on her work computer and adjusted a few lines and finalized her mock ups before creating a portfolio. Karen was sitting besides her antsy but not wanting to touch anything else on the design for fear of overworking it. They packed up their things to set up in the meeting room and met Greg and Mr. Hubert there an hour before lunch.
āWow!ā Greg couldnāt help but blurt out his appreciation of the design concept and difference in level there was between him and these two designers he interned under.
Mr. Hubert raised his eyes to Greg who quickly settled down and tried to act more business-like. Mr. Hubert studied the designs each in turn then flipped them around a few times and studied them again.
āYou created a new font.ā He seemed to say it more as a statement rather than a question so Meredith wasnāt sure if she should respond so she said nothing and so did Karen. āHmm.ā He continued to stare at the designs and they all looked at their watches. They needed to get it to Mr. Maxwellās office soon.
āI have other fonts.ā Meredith offered.
āNo, this one is good. Itās classic and retro in a luxurious feel.ā
āOh, good.ā
āYes, good. Not great though. We will see how they receive it. The color palette is genius it fits the carās colors perfectly.ā
āYes that was the idea they can market each car color individually and it looks like it was the primary focus all along.ā
āVery well done.ā
āKaren these lines are spot on. Not too much, just right.ā
āThank you.ā Karen responded.
āOkay letās get these up to Edwardās office and see what he thinks. We still have a week to work out any changes.ā Mr. Hubert looked at Greg who quickly grabbed up a duplicate packet that was to be sent to Edward Maxwellās office.
āYes, sir.ā He said and was quickly out the office and on his way.
āYou two did good work. Take a break for now so you can be fresh when they send for revisions. Donāt go too far so you can be here when we get the word but make sure to take time to relax.ā
āYes, sir.ā Meredith and Karen said in unison. They didnāt need to be told twice to relax. Meredith put her stuff away at her desk and headed down to the lobby to meet Taylor for lunch.
āMer!ā Taylor was extra bouncy as Meredith got off the elevator. Meredith didnāt know how that was even possible.
āHey Taylor.ā
āSooooooo! How was your presentation?ā Taylor asked as they walked past Ben and waved. He blushed and smiled in return.
āIt wasnāt a presentation. It was just a meeting before sending the mock up to Edward Maxwellās office.ā
āYeah sooooā¦ How was it?ā
āIt went well. We have the rest of the day off, or on-call sort to say, until we hear back from Edwardās office.ā
āOh my god, thatās amazing! Half day Friday!ā
āSomething like that.ā The had reached a new cafe and Meredith raised an eyebrow at Taylor.
āI wanted to check this place out.ā Taylor shrugged.
āYou better not be cheating on your clerk from our regular place.ā
āNever!ā Taylor faked a gasp of shock then giggled as they pushed in through the door. They each ordered. This time Meredith went with a bowl of Potato soup. āI never get how you can eat soup all year round.ā
āWhat? I love soup! So shoot me.ā Meredith laughed as they found a table in the corner. It wasnāt a booth but they had their own table and that was enough.
āSo tonight is that mixer that I told you about.ā
āWhat tonight? What happened to no distractions?ā
āYeah well it was already scheduled, I canāt help it.ā
āWell hopefully I wonāt have a ton to rework. Plus I have the whole weekend.ā
āI kind of told Ben he could take you out tomorrow night.ā
āWhat?! Why? How? Taylor what the fuck?ā
āItās just two nights and I felt bad for turning him down for you. He was so adorable. And what ever happened to the not taking your work home rule?ā
āTrue.ā Meredith blew on her soup and slurped it down.
āDo you really need to slurp?ā Taylor asked as she took a bite of her spinach and strawberry salad.
āYes, I do. In some cultures it is a sign of respect to the chef.ā
āI think thatās just tea and itās not American.ā
āWhatever. It makes it taste better.ā
āSure. So tonight Iāll meet you outside your place at seven and we can share an uber.ā
āOkay.ā Meredith took another long slurp then grinned at Taylor mischievously.
After walking Taylor back to work Meredith walked three blocks to a specialty store that sold origami paper. She secretly had a passion for origami but thought it was even weirder than slurping soup so didnāt tell anyone about it. She had never even told Chad about it which made it hard to hide when he was over her place. But she had managed to get an old hat box which she told Chad belonged to her dead grandmother so he would never be tempted to open it and she kept her supplies in there. She loved how the paper could take shape similar to her graphic design but in a three dimensional form and with such intricacies.
Meredith wasnāt a huge youtuber, but secretly she would watch tons of origami youtube videos of the most fascinating paper sculptures. She had heard of a museum exhibit that would be coming into town in a couple months and she really wanted to get tickets to go see it if she could manage.
Meredith browsed around the different paper patterns and types and finally chose a few sheets that would fit nicely in her purse and headed back to work. She still had plenty of time to kill but wanted to get back just incase Edward Maxwellās office was done reviewing the mock ups.
As she walked into the lobby Ben looked at her and grinned. He cut off the other guard who was telling him some story and walked a couple of steps to the reader as Meredith searched her bag for her badge.
āAbout tomorrow night, would it be okay to postpone it to next week? I am really sorry but my grandmother needed me to take her to night bingo with the girls and she only goes once a month. I had promised her last week.ā
āNight bingo?ā
āYeah itās her only vice.ā He said with a chuckle.
āYeah itās no problem. I really do have a big project thatās due next Friday so next Saturday will be perfect.ā
āOh thank you for understanding.ā
āDo you have a pen and a piece of paper?ā
āJust a pen.ā
āHmm.ā Meredith reached in her bag with a slight sigh. She ripped the corner of her newly purchased origami paper and wrote her number on it then handed it to Ben. āText me the details.ā She smiled and swiped her badge and headed up to her desk.
Meredith had gotten an email from Edward Maxwell’s assistant, Henry saying everything looked good but the font looked old. What did he not understand about classic? That was okay because she had anticipated as much and in fact held back so as to truly wow them next Friday. She still had two fonts that she had created and she knew just which one she was going to use. She talked to Karen before heading out and called it a day. She still had to get ready for this mixer that Taylor was taking her to.Meredith arrived home and had racked her brain the whole way from the office building to her apartment about what to wear tonight. She wasn’t even sure what a mixer was. Is it a date? Is it just a coed hang out of some sort. What was it? She decided to try google.A mixer is an informal social gathering where people interact with the purpose to get to know
Meredith woke up the next morning feeling good about herself. It wasnāt love at first sight. She didnāt believe in that. The guy wasnāt even Prince Charming even though the had a princely accent. She had finally stopped saying no and went out. Even if she hadnāt had a decent time with one of the guys there she had fun. She tried sushi for the first time. And although she wasnāt excited to go try it again she didnāt find it terrible, except that weird green paste. She did karaoke for the first time and actually really liked it. The whole event was pleasant. She didnāt have to date the guy she had been paired off with but he seemed like a nice enough person to hang out with again. He was funny, he had interesting hobbies, and he was smart. She decided to text both Taylor and Jordan the same message: Thanks for last night. I had a lot of fun
Meredith avoided the pigeons and made sure she had no loose popcorn in her purse as she headed to the Metra the next day. She would take the train to Schaumburg where her mother lived. Meredithās mother picked her up at the train station and the went to Yuās Mandarin for lunch. Meredith really had been craving Chinese food since the sushi left her wanting a little more asian in her life. āSo how have you been this week?ā Meredithās mother asked her after they ordered drinks. āI got a big project at work so I have been crazy busy. Itās due on Friday so I still have a lot of work to do.ā Meredith looked around the restaurant. She felt uneasy as though someone were watching them somewhere. āOh! Meri, that's wonderful.ā Her mother had called her Meri since she could remember. āWill you get a promotion?ā
Meredith spent all day Monday with Karen in the meeting room with their laptops going over the ad campaign and adjusting and perfecting their designs. Mr. Hubert kept walking up to the glass window and just watching them without coming in. They knew he was anxious when he kept pulling out his mustache comb and running it through his mustache over and over. It just added to the creepy effect he was creating, which wasn’t helpful to their concentration.“Even if they don’t see this as amazing I’m proud of what we have going here. It truly is amazing.” Karen told Meredith as they looked at the preview on the screen. “Choosing to go with the more risky font without a backup is a bit of a gamble but it allows us time to perfect it rather than split between two projects essentially.”“Exactly. Mr. Hubert wants us to wow
Meredith showed Jordan into her apartment with a giggle. She had promised to show him her origami collection since he showed her his photography. He had phrased it: āI show you mine so you have to show me yours.ā āI donāt know how my cat Dino will take to you but it seems like he is giving us some privacy. Not many places to hide in this small apartment but leave it to a cat to find a place to vanish to.ā She said as she pulled the large hat box down from her armoire and bent down to set it on the coffee table. It took up most of the table. āNice box.ā Jordan said in his slightly slurred British accent with a smirk. He had a double meaning as he had been checking her out from behind but it went over her head. āThank you. I got it a a thrift store. I thought it would be perfect for my origami.ā She opened the box
The next day Meredith met Karen, Greg and Mr. Hubert in the meeting room and they went over their ad campaign. Mr. Hubert sat for thirty minutes not saying a word just scrutinizing it in every way possible.“And you didn’t make a backup?” He finally asked.“No, sir. We thought it would better to risk a gamble on having more time to refine and polish one rather than work on two.”“That was a good idea. Had anyone else done it I wouldn’t have agreed but the two of you are something else. Great work indeed.”“Thank you, sir.” Meredith and Karen said in unison while Greg nodded in agreement.“I want the three of you to spend as long as possible with the printers to
Meredith was woken up by a very loud alarm that Taylor had set by the bed. She groaned and rolled around but she knew she had to get up because the big day had finally arrived. She padded out Sarahās bedroom and into the the living room following the smell of coffee into the kitchen. āMorning!ā Taylor said as she flitted around the kitchen and paused to hand Meredith a mug. āI made a light breakfast just in case youāre nervous. Also donāt want you bloated or anything when youāre supposed to look sexy.ā āThanks.ā Meredith responded grumpily, half sarcastically and half actual gratitude. She was actually kind of hungry she had forgotten to eat dinner the night before. She finished pouring her cup of coffee and adding three spoons of sugar with a splash of two percent milk while Taylor set their dishes on the other side of the island in front of two bar stools.
Meredith stepped onto the elevator. She was wearing platform nude pumps, a very sexy high-waisted black pencil skirt with a gold zipper that traveled up the back, a cropped short-sleeved red satin blouse, and a very confident smile. Her hair and makeup had been done to perfection and she was, as Mr. Hubert had put it earlier, āWow.ā Across from her in the corner of the elevator one of the three Maxwell brothers stood leaning slightly against the wall. He wore elephant grey derby shoes, a solid blue three-piece suit with a skinny grey tie tucked into his vest, his dark brown hair was parted on the side and buzzed short around the sides but long on the top. His clear green eyes looked the color of mossy but with the clarity of an emerald. His jaw was clenched as though he were deep in thought and he wore a five oāclock shadow across it. Meredith had been
Meredith was thoroughly enjoying the garden party. There were immaculate flowers, greenery and shrubs delicately sprinkled around the greenest lushest lawn Meredith had ever seen. She had gotten so many compliments on her outfit. Of course, she gave all the credit to Brayden who had picked it all out. Brayden charmed all the women without even saying anything, when he did they were almost faint.Meredith shook her head at it all and went about the party trying every bit of the au d'oeuvres that were presented. If she found one that was exceptional she would pop it in Braydenās mouth. Brayden didnāt complain because he loved watching Meredith doing this little dance of the foodie. The Baxtonās finally caught up with Meredith and Brayden near the sushi station where Meredith was trying a mini dragon roll. Brayden was talking to a well known architect and promising to stop by and take a look at his home designs.āI see you two made it okay,ā Dave Baxton greeted he chuckled watching Mere
Meredith and Brayden had finished their fourth and last jump of the day. They had been at the Chicagoland Skydiving Center for nearly the whole day. They were having so much of a fun time it felt like time flew by and before they knew it they were on jump four and starting to wear out a bit. They thanked Steve and scheduled to come back in a week to go over more ground training and get some more jumps in. Then they headed on their way.āIāll drive. Youāre exhausted, babe,ā Brayden said and he opened the passenger seat for Meredith to get in.āItās just an excuse to drive my car.āāMaybeāāDid you like it really?ā Meredith asked with a yawn as Brayden slid into the driverās seat.āI loved it! I think we should do jumps on Saturday and Sunday. Eight jumps a week and we can get to two hundred in no time.ā Brayden looked like he was grinning, which to anyone else would look like a small smile. Meredith knew her husband was excited and so was she. Brayden drove towards Schaumburg and foun
Meredith woke up earlier than usual for a Saturday. She had a long night and had only managed to squeeze in a few hours of sleep. Still she felt refreshed and with excitement that her husband was slightly afraid of. He of course had been up long before she opened her eyes.Brayden recalled the kayaking date, which was fun with a hint of danger being him falling into the river with Meredith laughing. But that was nothing compared to her jumping down the Swiss Wall. And while they were separated Brayden had no idea what Meredith had been up to. Jacob had been very vague with his reports.Brayden, who wasnāt sure how to dress for wherever Meredith was taking them, opted for casual attire. He wore a pair of Bruno Magli Italian leather sneakers in a dark burnished chestnut color. He had on a pair of Brunello Cucinelli navy cashmere creased sweatpants and a white Tom Ford t-shirt under a black The Row cashmere zip up hoodie. He followed Dino into the kitchen where he first fed Dino then pre
Meredith and Brayden took the elevator down to Braydenās office. Brayden seemed to be deep in thought so Meredith decided not to interrupt. Finally just as they entered Braydenās office he turned to her and raised an eyebrow.āWhat?ā Meredith asked, confused.āWhatās going on tomorrow?ā Brayden asked in a serious tone.āI just decided to pick up a new hobby and thought it would be great if you came with me,ā Meredith gave her best Iām-an-angel smile and puppy dog eyes.āAs long as you arenāt planning on jumping off the side of a mountain again.ā Brayden moved in close to his wife and searched her eyes.āNot at the moment,ā Meredith smirked. Brayden leaned in to kiss the smirk off Meredithās face. She reached around his waist and he wrapped her in his embrace as they both sighed a calming peaceful sigh simultaneously.āIf you want to move back to the condo letās make it happen.ā Brayden conceded. āI donāt care where I live as long as Iām with you.ā Meredith looked up into Braydenās sin
Meredith was on her way out the office to have lunch with Brayden before they went to see his father to talk about the CEO position. Brayden had felt very strongly about securing the title. So much so that he had coerced a random stranger in the elevator into marrying him. Meredith sighed in relief as she walked out of her building and saw Sean waiting with the familiar Mercedes to take her to the Maxwell Sharpe building. She had on her black belted pleated short sleeve Burberry dress and her strappy Louboutin stiletto sandals. āItās good to see you, Sean. Thank you.ā Meredith said as she reached the car. āItās good to see you too, Mrs. Maxwell.ā Sean responded. Meredith smiled and got into the car and they were soon on their way. Meredith was slightly nervous about
Meredith felt that familiar thumping and the pounding through her body as her feet hit the treadmill mat in her buildingās workout room. She looked out the window at the natural light shining in the already bright workout space and smiled. She no longer needed to run as an escape or to be strong enough to push things down in order to be a perfect Maxwell. This time she had chosen Brayden and they truly were a united team going into things. As she was running she remembered her parentsā had been suspicious about her relationship with Brayden. Maybe they should look for a new home. It would be weird if Meredith had told her parents that they were getting a new place and they just kept the old one. Meredith shrugged to herself, and started her cooldown. Technically her apartment was a new place for them. And t
Meredith woke up in her husband's arms and didn’t want to get out of bed. She sighed and picked up her phone and pressed the button to light up the display flashing the time before her eyes. Another sigh and a light groan later and she was getting out of bed and headed into her shared walk-in-closet and chose something to wear from her work wardrobe. She picked a Tommy Hilfiger pencil skirt with front faux zippered pockets. She paired it with a pair of BCBG black pumps and her Eileen silk top. Meredith got washed and dressed and grabbed her Michael Kors bag and headed out for work. She texted Jacob as she walked from her apartment to her job and made sure that was going to send Brayden home on time and make sure that he ate lunch. Meredith decided she was going to nag about this for the week. She d
āNo secrets, Mere.ā Taylor was looking Meredith up and down and her outfit. She knew Meredith had kept her ābillionaire wardrobeā at Braydenās for whatever reason but was now suddenly wearing them. āI canāt wear them?ā Meredith tried to feign ignorance to no avail. Taylor just gave her a look and Alyssa was still confused. āIsnāt Brayden your husband?ā Alyssa asked, having never met him but heard stories. āI donāt understand. Do you have separate homes?ā āYes. Sort of.ā Meredith responded and Taylor raised an eyebrow as the server dropped off more drinks. āWe separated.ā āWhat!ā Alyssa gasped while Taylor casually picked up her drink and waited for Meredith to get to the part she was interested in; why Meredith was wearing clothes that were at Braydenās. āWe missed each other. He's moving in my place and we are working things out.ā Meredith shrugged then began to sip her drink as well. She had gotten a lemonade so she wouldnāt have to worry about Clinton popping up and carrying he
Brayden wanted to help Meredith get rid of her Christian problem. Meredith didn’t really want Brayden involved at all. If she had needed help she would have called Jacob but she wasn’t ready to go that route. In all actuality, Meredith was hoping Christian would get the clues and bold hints she had for him that she wasn’t interested.“If it gets too much for me to handle, I’ll let you know.” Meredith told Brayden over some twenty-three layer chocolate cake that she had picked up earlier. Brayden picked the dessert wine and as always Meredith was loving the combination and they accented one another.“I was worried you would say that. Meredith, I want to be with you. Hopefully that’s a little more obvious by me moving in but for this to work I think we are going to need some sort of structure.”
