Meredith and Brayden stepped off the elevator together. They had arrived at the thirty-seventh floor in the Maxwell Sharpe Marketing building. It was Meredith's first day back since her honeymoon adventures. She was excited to get back to work.

Meredith loved the work she did and felt if she didn't have her job she would definitely have gone insane already. She was wearing her black wrap coat and black leather over the knee boots with a stacked heel. She still had Brayden's scarf wrapped around her neck because she had forgotten hers.

Abigail was already situated at the reception desk for Brayden's floor. She usually got there an hour early on her days to work. Her twin sister, Mercedes did the same on her days. Abigail was busy typing something into the computer and didn't look up as she greeted Brayden.

"Good morning, Mr. Maxwell," Abigail glanced to her side where a stand with papers sat. She was typing something from the pages.

"Good Morning," B

Meredith was sitting at Taylor’s desk in a practically empty department. To be honest the whole floor was pretty much empty with the exception of the cleaning staff that worked during lunch hour. Taylor had given Meredith her desk chair and grabbed her cubicle neighbor’s chair and rolled it next to where Meredith sat with Taylor’s desk at her back.Meredith had been recounting her week’s trip to Switzerland for about fifteen minutes. She gave as much detail as one could in fifteen minutes. Well, sans a few things like Mizuki being there, how she almost got Meredith killed, and She and Brayden had a strict kiss don’t tell from the start of their wedding.Rather, since Edward Maxwell started poking around where he didn’t belong. Whenever recounting anything that was or should have been romantic, Meredith was always very v

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 126: Sigh

Brayden was thinking that he had to do more. Marrying Meredith and showing up here and there for practically mandatory events just wasn’t enough to assure him the CEO’s seat. Meredith’s falling for him alone wasn’t going to be the ride he needed. He knew it would take a collaboration of ideas to climb those ladder rungs. He sighed. He had been doing a lot of sighing. The sad thing was he didn’t really have any other friends, outside of Mizuki. There were two guys that weren’t the highest societal figures in the least. They were the unknown sons of a couple of very rich old men, who kept them well out of sight as much as possible. They tried to rub elbows with Brayden all throughout college.Another sigh and Brayden shook the thought. He had to figure this social aspect

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 127: Suggestive

Brayden had asked Meredith to help him figure out how to solve the social requirement to his fathers stipulations for the next CEO. She was pensively thinking before she remembered that she was eating and she could very well eat and think. She slowly brought another bite of her lasagna to her mouth as she continued to think about Brayden’s dilemma. His dilemma was her dilemma by default. She wasn’t sure what would happen if he didn’t win the CEO’s seat. She imagined that it would mean the entire Death Contract was void. That would be as amazing as it would be detrimental. She was slowly eating as she thought with even more fervor in light of the idea that she would be released from her cage. But she knew she would enter a new one which would pertain to her mother and father’s issues and how involved she should or even could be.“Didn’t you mention that I was somehow the answer to both the family and social requirem

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 128: Lunch is Canceled

Brayden and Meredith were joined in between their seats as they held hands riding to work together. Brayden was on his phone and Meredith was looking out the window and trying to think of other ways to make Brayden seem more social. That was a very difficult task considering his personality didn’t exactly scream ‘party’ or anything. She had to think of things that made sense and would be convincing as something that he would actually do. The Baxtons inviting Meredith and her better half over for a garden party made sense. Brayden could claim he was dragged along by his wife who was politely accepting the invitation from a client. Meredith sighed. Brayden’s sighing the day before had become contagious. Or maybe it was just the task at hand was a difficult one because Brayden was so standoffish. Meredith wondered if he was always like that. Maybe that could be the key to this conundrum they were in. “Bub,” She started while still looking out the w

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 129: Reflections

Meredith was on the elevator and she had no idea what she was going to say to her shrink. The last time she had seen Dr. Hershman she had so much she wanted to say and couldn’t even get a fraction of it out.But as she got off the elevator she didn’t know what she wanted to say. She assumed her shrink would ask her about her ‘honeymoon.’ She wasn’t sure what she wanted to mention about that either. And she hadn’t been doing much reflection at all. She kept following the flow and doing what she felt like but putting off the reflection part of it all. Meredith sighed as she checked in then sat down and looked at the random magazines neatly arranged on the table in front of her.She wished her life was that neat and organized. Brayden’s was. He had nearly everything

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 130: Dinner Preparations

Meredith had finished her meeting with Dr. Hershman and Sean dropped her off at home so she could pick up the Bentley. That had been hours ago and she was at work diligently knocking out design after design and getting all the quicker things done so she could focus on the larger projects hopefully over the weekend. Her watch vibrated letting her know that it was time to wrap it up before Brayden showed up at her desk. As much as she had worked on ignoring and living with the whispers and stares, they never really died down and she never wanted to add fuel to the fire by having Brayden there longer than needed.Meredith had locked her computer and was putting on her favorite wrap coat when she looked down to see she had a message from Taylor.“I can’t wait!! I promise I didn’t get anythi

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 131.1: The Dinner Guest

Meredith opened the door and stood there in the doorway to her condo as she waited for her best friend. Brayden crept up behind her silently. She could feel him just behind her. She knew the feel of his body heat as it reached out to hers. She resisted the urge to turn around. Something was happening and she wasn’t sure how to describe it. She did illuminate quite a bit earlier in her session with her doctor. Meredith took a deep breath and decided she would deal with that later. Just as she saw Taylor she felt Brayden’s hand slide to her lower back and rest on her hip she leaned into his touch and found his hard solid chest behind ready for her to rest her body into. Taylor’s eyes lit up seeing her best friend and her best friend’s David. Sean was not far behind Taylor as he had escorted her up. He gave Br

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 132: How to Suvive Dinner

Brayden had said he had an idea that would help Meredith get through Dinner with his family Friday night. But Meredith was skeptical. She wasn’t so much skeptical that the idea would help her to relax and get through the toughest night since she had gotten married.Meredith was skeptical as to whether Brayden even had an actual idea. The only thing he had talked to her about since he mentioned it was the fact that she had Jacob create files on both Brayden and Mizuki. That wasn’t helping her relax or feel better about the dinner she was expected to attend. It was already dinner time and Brayden had yet to mention anything. Meredith had pretty much lost any kind of faith that she thought she had in Brayden’s abilities to get her through the upcoming family dinner.Brayden could tell something

Meredith was thoroughly enjoying the garden party. There were immaculate flowers, greenery and shrubs delicately sprinkled around the greenest lushest lawn Meredith had ever seen. She had gotten so many compliments on her outfit. Of course, she gave all the credit to Brayden who had picked it all out. Brayden charmed all the women without even saying anything, when he did they were almost faint.Meredith shook her head at it all and went about the party trying every bit of the au d'oeuvres that were presented. If she found one that was exceptional she would pop it in Brayden’s mouth. Brayden didn’t complain because he loved watching Meredith doing this little dance of the foodie. The Baxton’s finally caught up with Meredith and Brayden near the sushi station where Meredith was trying a mini dragon roll. Brayden was talking to a well known architect and promising to stop by and take a look at his home designs.“I see you two made it okay,” Dave Baxton greeted he chuckled watching Mere

Meredith and Brayden had finished their fourth and last jump of the day. They had been at the Chicagoland Skydiving Center for nearly the whole day. They were having so much of a fun time it felt like time flew by and before they knew it they were on jump four and starting to wear out a bit. They thanked Steve and scheduled to come back in a week to go over more ground training and get some more jumps in. Then they headed on their way.“I’ll drive. You’re exhausted, babe,” Brayden said and he opened the passenger seat for Meredith to get in.“It’s just an excuse to drive my car.”“Maybe”“Did you like it really?” Meredith asked with a yawn as Brayden slid into the driver’s seat.“I loved it! I think we should do jumps on Saturday and Sunday. Eight jumps a week and we can get to two hundred in no time.” Brayden looked like he was grinning, which to anyone else would look like a small smile. Meredith knew her husband was excited and so was she. Brayden drove towards Schaumburg and foun

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 209: Mystery Date

Meredith woke up earlier than usual for a Saturday. She had a long night and had only managed to squeeze in a few hours of sleep. Still she felt refreshed and with excitement that her husband was slightly afraid of. He of course had been up long before she opened her eyes.Brayden recalled the kayaking date, which was fun with a hint of danger being him falling into the river with Meredith laughing. But that was nothing compared to her jumping down the Swiss Wall. And while they were separated Brayden had no idea what Meredith had been up to. Jacob had been very vague with his reports.Brayden, who wasn’t sure how to dress for wherever Meredith was taking them, opted for casual attire. He wore a pair of Bruno Magli Italian leather sneakers in a dark burnished chestnut color. He had on a pair of Brunello Cucinelli navy cashmere creased sweatpants and a white Tom Ford t-shirt under a black The Row cashmere zip up hoodie. He followed Dino into the kitchen where he first fed Dino then pre

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 208: Advantage

Meredith and Brayden took the elevator down to Brayden’s office. Brayden seemed to be deep in thought so Meredith decided not to interrupt. Finally just as they entered Brayden’s office he turned to her and raised an eyebrow.“What?” Meredith asked, confused.“What’s going on tomorrow?” Brayden asked in a serious tone.“I just decided to pick up a new hobby and thought it would be great if you came with me,” Meredith gave her best I’m-an-angel smile and puppy dog eyes.“As long as you aren’t planning on jumping off the side of a mountain again.” Brayden moved in close to his wife and searched her eyes.“Not at the moment,” Meredith smirked. Brayden leaned in to kiss the smirk off Meredith’s face. She reached around his waist and he wrapped her in his embrace as they both sighed a calming peaceful sigh simultaneously.“If you want to move back to the condo let’s make it happen.” Brayden conceded. “I don’t care where I live as long as I’m with you.” Meredith looked up into Brayden’s sin

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 207: Nervous

Meredith was on her way out the office to have lunch with Brayden before they went to see his father to talk about the CEO position. Brayden had felt very strongly about securing the title. So much so that he had coerced a random stranger in the elevator into marrying him. Meredith sighed in relief as she walked out of her building and saw Sean waiting with the familiar Mercedes to take her to the Maxwell Sharpe building. She had on her black belted pleated short sleeve Burberry dress and her strappy Louboutin stiletto sandals. “It’s good to see you, Sean. Thank you.” Meredith said as she reached the car. “It’s good to see you too, Mrs. Maxwell.” Sean responded. Meredith smiled and got into the car and they were soon on their way. Meredith was slightly nervous about

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 206: Cold

Meredith felt that familiar thumping and the pounding through her body as her feet hit the treadmill mat in her building’s workout room. She looked out the window at the natural light shining in the already bright workout space and smiled. She no longer needed to run as an escape or to be strong enough to push things down in order to be a perfect Maxwell. This time she had chosen Brayden and they truly were a united team going into things. As she was running she remembered her parents’ had been suspicious about her relationship with Brayden. Maybe they should look for a new home. It would be weird if Meredith had told her parents that they were getting a new place and they just kept the old one. Meredith shrugged to herself, and started her cooldown. Technically her apartment was a new place for them. And t

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 205: Meredith's David

Meredith woke up in her husband's arms and didn’t want to get out of bed. She sighed and picked up her phone and pressed the button to light up the display flashing the time before her eyes. Another sigh and a light groan later and she was getting out of bed and headed into her shared walk-in-closet and chose something to wear from her work wardrobe. She picked a Tommy Hilfiger pencil skirt with front faux zippered pockets. She paired it with a pair of BCBG black pumps and her Eileen silk top. Meredith got washed and dressed and grabbed her Michael Kors bag and headed out for work. She texted Jacob as she walked from her apartment to her job and made sure that was going to send Brayden home on time and make sure that he ate lunch. Meredith decided she was going to nag about this for the week. She d

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 204: Death Contract

“No secrets, Mere.” Taylor was looking Meredith up and down and her outfit. She knew Meredith had kept her ‘billionaire wardrobe’ at Brayden’s for whatever reason but was now suddenly wearing them. “I can’t wear them?” Meredith tried to feign ignorance to no avail. Taylor just gave her a look and Alyssa was still confused. “Isn’t Brayden your husband?” Alyssa asked, having never met him but heard stories. “I don’t understand. Do you have separate homes?” “Yes. Sort of.” Meredith responded and Taylor raised an eyebrow as the server dropped off more drinks. “We separated.” “What!” Alyssa gasped while Taylor casually picked up her drink and waited for Meredith to get to the part she was interested in; why Meredith was wearing clothes that were at Brayden’s. “We missed each other. He's moving in my place and we are working things out.” Meredith shrugged then began to sip her drink as well. She had gotten a lemonade so she wouldn’t have to worry about Clinton popping up and carrying he

  • My Death Contract   Chapter 203: No Secrets

Brayden wanted to help Meredith get rid of her Christian problem. Meredith didn’t really want Brayden involved at all. If she had needed help she would have called Jacob but she wasn’t ready to go that route. In all actuality, Meredith was hoping Christian would get the clues and bold hints she had for him that she wasn’t interested.“If it gets too much for me to handle, I’ll let you know.” Meredith told Brayden over some twenty-three layer chocolate cake that she had picked up earlier. Brayden picked the dessert wine and as always Meredith was loving the combination and they accented one another.“I was worried you would say that. Meredith, I want to be with you. Hopefully that’s a little more obvious by me moving in but for this to work I think we are going to need some sort of structure.”
