All I could see on my desk were roses, lots and lots of them. They had to be more than a hundred—no, thousands of them.

I wasn't going to deny that they were beautiful. All the deep, blood-red petals were everywhere.

They flooded my desk, spilled onto the floor, and climbed up my chair like a living thing.

I didn't know if they were glued to my entire damn workspace.

Some bouquets sat upright in expensive crystal vases, others were scattered like and instead of the usual scent of coffee and printer ink, the office smelt like sweet roses.

It seemed as if immediately they saw me they stated gossiping.

“Oh my God, Sophie.”

“This is insane who even does something like this?”

“It has to be Ethan.”

Of course, they all assumed it was Ethan. Who else could it be? Who else had the power, the arrogance, to pull something this dramatic?

Everybody was screaming excitedly like this was the most romantic thing they had ever seen and even though it did look romantic I wasn't excited because I knew

From the way he was walking like a man with a purpose, I knew I was in trouble and the worst thing was that he still hadn’t put me down. His arms locked around me with an effortlessly tight grip. I could feel the tension rolling off from him, his eyes looked very focused like he was holding everything back.“Put me down,” I snapped, squirming against his hold, but he just ignored me.The elevator dinged, and in three steps, he carried me straight through the underground parking lot.I looked around, wondering what the hell we were doing here, but he wasn't saying anything and all I could do was to try and get cozy while he carried me like my prince charming from hell.I raised my brow in confusion when I saw his sleek, black jaguar, I started thrashing again as I realized what he wanted to do.“Ethan, don’t you dare—”He didn't reply to my question instead the motherfucker just unlocked the door with one hand and then put me inside as if was light as freaking air. I stormed back into the office, my heart still racing from our argument in the car. My face was beet red as whispers filled the air. I mean, Ethan Blackwood had carried me out of the office bridal-style. Maybe they all thought we went for a quickie. The flowers at my desk were gone. Thank God. If I had to throw another temper tantrum, someone was getting set on fire and it was going to be Ethan. I collapsed into my chair, finally accepting the harsh truth—Ethan Blackwood was the weapon fashioned against me. And I needed to end this, t job, this situation—whatever the hell this thing between us was. Before I could think twice, I clicked open my email and began typing my resignation. Dear Mr. Blackwood, I hesitated for a minute as my fingers hovered over the keyboard, but the words blurred in my mind. What was I even supposed to say? That I was quitting because my boss was an arrogant, insufferable control freak who made me feel things I didn’t want to feel? That I needed to run

I should have known Ethan Blackwood wouldn’t just book a regular flight like a normal human being. No—he had to go over the top, proving once again that being extra was practically his full-time job. The moment I arrived at the airport, there was no check-in, no security lines—just a sleek black luxury car waiting to whisk me straight to a private jet. Because of course, Ethan Blackwood wouldn’t fly commercial like the rest of us. His initials, EB, were embossed in gold on the side, just in case anyone forgot who the plane belonged to. At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if he had hand-picked my wardrobe for the trip. Everything had already been taken care of. My passport, my visa, my itinerary—probably even the contents of my suitcase. It should have infuriated me. Instead, I found myself gripping the handle of my suitcase a little tighter, because something about how easily he took over my life was making my stomach flip in ways I didn’t want to acknowledge. Ethan was already

My heart pounded with every nerve screaming in anticipation.I should move. I should say something, but I didn’t and then there was a loud unwelcoming knock.I jerked back so fast I nearly fell off the seat. My face burned with embrssement and my lips still tingling from the kiss that almost happened but he didn’t even flinch his gaze just stayed locked on mine for a second longer than necessary, his fingers grazing my wrist before he finally let go.The person knocked again even more insistent this time."Come in?" The drive from the airport was seamless in the luxury car. I slid on my sunglasses, enjoying the the feel of the sun as the sight of the ocean that sparkled like I was in a movie. palm trees lined the road swaying gently in the breeze, and the salty air carried was almost intoxicating, a girl could get use to this kind of treatment. It should have been breathtaking, but I could barely appreciate it—because of the man sitting next to me.Ethan Blackwood. He lounged in his seat, scrolling through his phone like he didn’t have a single worry in the world, while I sat stiffly beside him, still trying to wrap my head around the reality of this trip.A full week in the Philippines. With him.I crossed my arms and shot him a glare. “Are you finally going to tell me what these ‘special plans’ of yours are?”He didn’t even glance up. “No.” he said in a monotone.I clenched my jaw. “Seriously?”Only then did he look at me, his lips curving into that his usually infuriating smirk. “Patience, li

I loudly said every curse word I could think of as I dragged my suitcase inside—something that Ethan should be doing instead of standing there, all relaxed, leaning against the doorframe like this was some kind of luxury vacation.Which it was!"You're being dramatic, Sophie," he said, finally setting his phone down on the nightstand. "It’s just a bed."I turned around to glare at him. "Just a bed?" My voice came out in an annoyingly high pitch. "It’s the only bed!"He just shrugged my tantrum off. "It’s big enough for the both of us," he said, as if it were the simplest thing in the world."I am not sharing a bed with you.""Suit yourself." He casually unbuttoned the cuffs of his shirt and rolled them up, revealing his forearms in that effortless way that only made him more infuriating and... annoyingly hot. Then, to make things worse, he walked over and sprawled onto the bed like he owned the damn thing."You are an absolute prick."He only stretched his arms over his head, smirking

Since Ethan had decided to pack my bags, I might as well wear the most tempting dress in the pile after all. If he wanted to drag me into this game, I would play. I could already imagine his reaction when he saw me, the way his jaw would tighten, and the look eyes before he forced himself to act unaffected. He thought he was untouchable, tonight I would make sure he wasn’t. When I stepped out of the bedroom, I was not disappointed, he was standing near the suite’s minibar, fixing his cufflinks. The moment his eyes landed on me, I saw the way his jaw drilled, his eyes accessed my entire outfit as I knew he was more than pleased. Sophie’s POV If there was a bigger way to describe the word awkward, I would, because that was exactly how this car ride felt. It was immensely silent as Ethan stared out of the window with distant eyes, his jaw clenched as if he were still back in the elevator, confronting his father. I had never seen him like this before—exposed, with all his emotions laid bare. Even though it was anger, I could relate with how he fells because I know how many times I wished I had confronted my mother the way he did his father And I appreciated the fact that I could see the almighty Ethan Blackwood to be a man with emotions and not a robot or something like that. But it just didn’t make sense. At the dinner where my mother introduced me to them, Ethan had seemed perfectly okay with his father. Then again, come to think of it, there was minimal interaction between them. Almost like… tolerance for peace sake and not even an atom of affection. I wanted to say something, anything, to break the sil

Ethan’s POVMr. Ventura was talking something about the potential collaboration, design inspirations, how impressed he was with the hotel’s architecture. I should’ve been listening. I really should’ve. But lI couldn’t hear him. Not really. My father’s voice was still ringing in my head. That smug, calculated tone, smug face and that condescending tone. I hated the way he always walked into a room like he owned it—even when he didn't, the man always used to pretend like he gave a damn when really, he was just here to take over — like he always did.“I'll see you tomorrow Ethan.” Mr. Ventura said Sophie gave my hand a gentle squeeze and I felt peace, she had a certain effect on me like she was the only thing keeping me grounded in a world that constantly tried to set me on fire.I gave him an obviously fake smile, he turned to look at Sophie, I didn't know why but he genuinely liked her, she had that effect on people I guess.I didn't deserve her.She wasn’t saying anything, just hold

Mr. Blackwood Sr. took a confident step forward not even bothering to reply Ethan as he was gesturing smoothly toward the elevators like he owned the entire deal. “Let me show you to your room, Mr. Ventura. I personally made sure everything was prepared.”Ethan moved fast, reaching out to stop him with a hand on his arm. “This is my business deal,” he said under his breath, as he was sounding as if he was trying to control his anger. His father didn’t even flinch. He just turned slightly, smiling in that polished way that made my skin crawl. “And what would you know about handling a client of this caliber? You still think business is about charm and pretty offices.”Ethan’s jaw clenched. “The only thing you’ve ever managed was marrying my mother and—”I stepped in quickly, slipping between them like it was the most natural thing in the world. My hand found Ethan’s hand as I was gently squeezing his fingers. He looked at me, eyes still burning.“Please don’t.” I mouthed, just for him

I was still fuming when I followed Ethan out of the apartment.I didn’t wait for him to speak. I didn’t look at him, he didn't even deserve my look right now.It didn't matter that he kept glancing at me like he wanted to say something, the fact remained that he didn’t.At least when it mattered he didn't speak and now, apparently, I had to be the perfect little businesswoman, smiling at Mr. Ventura like I hadn’t just been accused, betrayed, and silenced all in one day.A perfect day in the life of Ethan Blackwood's whore. As we stepped outside I couldn't help but blink because two sleek black cars were already waiting for us. Of course they were. Ethan Blackwood didn’t do things halfway. He walked ahead of me like I wasn’t burning holes into his back with my eyes. A driver opened the back door of the first car and Ethan waited for me to get in first.Ethan took the driver seat while I assumed the driver was doing to drive the other car.I didn’t say thank you or anything at all, lik

I was barely outside the café when my phone rang with a notification. I took it and saw it was a text from Ethan. I didn't even know why my heart started beating three times faster when I saw he had sent a reply. Ethan: Come over. Now. “Taxi!” I yelled, waving my hand like my life depended on it. The driver looked startled but stopped. “Up Street,” I said, breathless. Ethan had replied and now It was time for answers. *** Ethan’s apartment always felt like a museum—too perfect and cold, much like his own personality. The only warmth came from the scent of sandalwood. I took in deep breaths as I pressed the doorbell. He didn't even waste time opening the door. "Didn’t expect you to show up so fast," he said, his expression looking very annoyed. I couldn't help rolling my eyes. "I wasn’t sure you would respond so fast." "Yet here we are," he said in a monotone. “Are you going to let me in or?” I said, letting the question stretch. “By all means,” he said, parting aside so I co

I rolled my eyes at her obvious pretense, but she wasn’t done talking. “How has life been so far?”She was talking like we were fucking old friends. The audacity!I stared at her, daring her to keep pretending like she wasn’t the bitch who had stabbed me in the back and helped burn everything I built.Lily was immaculate, as usual. She sat up straight, her posture perfect, her makeup flawless, and her clothes pressed. She looked every bit the image of power and control. Her smile was calculated to make her seem like the untouchable, perfect woman she always thought she was.And then there was Alex. He was the complete opposite. He stood up like his spine had turned to rubber. His eyes were hollow, his face drawn, like a man who had been completely drained of all pride and strength. He had the look of someone who had given up before they even fought. A man caught in a storm he couldn’t weather. “You shouldn’t be here, Lily,” he stammered, stepping toward her like a puppet. “This wasn’

The. Fuck. Down. Now.” I said as I intentionally placed emphasis on each word so he could see how freaking serious I was. He exhaled as I could see his chest rising and falling. He looked as if he was preparing for something far worse than a mere conversation. He sat down and I let him go, smiling as I took my own seat.“I—I don’t know where to start, Sophie,” he stammered, his fingers twitching against the table. “It wasn’t supposed to go like this. None of it was.”I leaned in closer, every part of me wanting him to feel every ounce of my anger. But I wanted the truth. I needed it now, even if it hurt.“Start with why you thought it was okay to destroy me. Why?”Alex’s face darkened showing regret, but I knew him well enough to know that he didn't regret h

Sophie POVI wasn't a crying mess anymore thanks to Rachel, there was a movie playing in the background, but I wasn’t really watching. Rachel sat beside me, curled up with a pillow, her eyes moving between the screen and me.“I like how you handled Ethan,” she said out of the blue as she stuffed her mouth with a handful of popcorn. I nodded not wanting to talk about him but he kept on going. “You sent him right out the door. That’s exactly what he needed.”I let out a small laugh that didn't quite reach anywhere. “You know how stubborn he is, but I had to.”Rachel nodded, looking extremely satisfied. “If he comes back, you do it again. You don’t need him messing with your peace.”Her words felt reassuring, after all she had been by my side through everything, my rock when I needed one the most.Without warning the front door opened and I cursed myself for not locking it after Ethan left again, because there he was again obviously not learning his lesson that I didn't want to see him a
