Isaac’s face goes blank, his eyes widening as the words register. “An emergency... C-section?”

The doctor nods again. “Yes, it’s the safest option for both her and the baby. We need to move quickly.”

For a second, Isaac doesn’t move. He doesn’t speak. He just stands there, staring at the doctor as if he didn’t understand a word that was just said. But I can see it—the way his brain is racing, trying to process the decision he’s being asked to make.
