Falling Star

I reached home late in the evening and I was exhausted. I went straight to my bed and wanted to change my night clothes and retired for the day but when I lay down on my bed I didn't notice I fell asleep immediately.

Ring, Ring, Ring...

I jolted from my sleep and picked up the phone.

"Hello", I answered with a sleepy voice.

"B are you sleeping already? my best friend questioned.

"Yes, but thanks to you I am all awake now, why did you call this late? I answered with a grumpy voice.

"Sorry B, I thought you would be still awake I just want to catch up with you today but it looks like you are damn tired". her voice got sad.

"It's okay T, I'm awake now and it will be hard for me to go back to sleep at any moment, tell me how's your day gone?

I went out of my bed and went to the bathroom to change my sleepwear dress. While I'm changing I switch it to the speaker phone and listen to my best friend. She told me all the details that happened to her for the whole day. After I changed I went to my minibar and got some wine to refresh my tired body and mind. I went outside of my balcony and stared into the night sky with bright stars. I settled in one of my chairs and continued to chat with my best friend.

"T guess what, I'm really awkward at the office today."

"Why? Is it related to your new boss?

"Yeah, it is, you wouldn't believe it. Remember my new neighbor Isaac, that we had dinner this last weekend?

"Yes, I do but why? don't tell me he is your new boss.

"Unfortunately, Yes. you know how I felt when I saw him this morning in our meeting, I wanted to open the floor and eat me. It's really awkward and distracting on my part."

"B you are being dramatic queen again, why on earth are you feeling awkward? He is kind, I think being your neighbor and boss is a good thing. You can know him very well if you wanted to."

"You won't get it, being my neighbor is okay but being my boss it's kinda awkward you know. I mean I will be interacting with him more in the office. I will address him formally and it's just felt weird".

"B it's so simple when you are at the office he is your boss and when you are at home forget that he is your boss just be your neighbor. Don't complicate simple things maybe it is fated to happen like that. Just get to know him more if you wanted to. You are the one who told me that he is new in town make friends with him. We don't know what gonna happen in the future anyway.

"Okay, I will think about your advice. Let's find out what is gonna happen in the future".

"That's my girl, so B talked to you again I'm going to retire for the day. You go back to sleep as well". Love you B.

"I'm going to finish my wine first, Good night T, Love you too". and I hung up

After the chat with my best friend, I stayed outside for a while. I stared at the beautiful sky night with the brightest stars. I saw a fallen star and I close my eyes just to wish. I know others are not believing in any of it but here I am still believing. It just become my habit. It give me a surprise when I heard someone call my name.

"Oh my god, what the h*ll", I felt my heart beat faster than normal.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you", Isaac said. He is outside on his balcony.

"Ohh, it's okay I got easily startled, I thought no one is around so I'm surprised when someone called my name". I shyly answered.

"My fault I just saw you when I come out, I wanted to check if you were alright I thought you already fall asleep there". he explained

"No, I just saw the fallen star and make a wish for it, do you believe in it?". I smiled at him.

"No, I don't see the logic about it". he just stared at me.

"Oh, I see but you can try sometimes so you can have an experience". I'm going in Mr. Jones, goodnight", I'm going to go inside when he called again.

"Bettany, wait. Can I ask a question? Are you avoiding me? he asked.

"Me? No, why would I? Why did you think of that?

"I felt you don't want to talk to me anymore and you really uncomfortable every time I bumped into you". he said with a confused face.

"No Mr. Jones, I'm just really exhausted today so I wanted to retire and call it for the day.

"I don't believe, you become so formal with me. And now you called me Mr. Jones and I thought we settled on Isaac before?".

"I mean you are my boss now so I thought it is right to call you Mr. Jones, it is really weird calling you Isaac now on my part".

"I'm also your neighbor am I right?".

"Yeah, but". I couldn't finish my sentence when Isaac interrupted me.

"Alright, you can call me Mr. Jones when we are in the office but when you see me outside of the office call me Isaac, is that okay?".

"Okay, I think I can do that Mr. Jones, ahmmp I mean Isaac".

"Good, let's head in see you tomorrow, Goodnight". he smiled.

"Goodnight", and I finally went inside.

Isaac POV

Being a new CEO of the company is not easy, I went home late just to finish the documents piled up for my signature. It's an exhausting day for me, I am grateful that my staff at the other companies are doing great without my supervision. I need a good night's drink. I went outside of my balcony with a drink in my hands. What a nice view, the sky night is bright like the stars above. I saw a familiar figure on the other side.

"It's Bettany, is she sleeping out there? She looked so calm and bright like the stars. Should I wake her? It's really cold outside maybe she will get cold tomorrow if I just leave her there."

"Bettany, I called. She's startled and curses. I think she's not asleep then. She's kinda cute when she's cursing. I smiled at that thought. Here she goes again calling me Mr. Jones, is she avoiding me? Is she doesn't want to talk to me anymore? I need to clarify this one before I go to bed. So I asked her and I found out that because I am her boss now. Is being her new boss weird to her? Forget it I will not make her feel awkward and uncomfortable.

"Good night Bettany, see you tomorrow", and I head in to get my sleep.
