(Finn’s POV)
Catherine, my brother’s secretary, glanced at the cake box I placed on her table, but she didn’t say anything about it. I sat on the couch and leaned back, peeking at the glass door, but I couldn’t see who he was talking with at the moment.
His secretary looked briefly at me again and then at the cake box. I knew it wasn’t the cake she asked me to bring and also had the knowledge she didn’t like it, but she was making me crazy. I stared and hissed at her.
“Just say it, Catherine,” I uttered in annoyance as my eyes followed her when she stood up to get a document from the cabinet. “You’re making me nuts.”
She looked at me and shook her head. “Mr. Mars, you really want to hear what I want to say?”
I rolled my eyes. If she weren’t older than me, and she wasn’t like part of the family already, I wanted to yell at her. First, I was too angry last night that I couldn’t get a wink. Second, Lex, maybe it wasn’t even her actual name, took all my cash the previous night. Lastly, Sky called me this morning and asked me to buy Angela’s favorite mango tart from the bakeshop near Heaven’s Avenue, but they only accept cash.
And I don’t have cash! I wanted to scream in anger.
“Just say it, please,” I was almost begging her.
She nodded, pressing her lips for a second as if thinking and choosing her words wisely before saying them to me.
“You know that Angela’s pregnant, right?” She walked back toward her table but stopped in front of me. “You know she’s craving mango tart for a week already, but they’re too busy this week, right?”
I opened my mouth to tell her they should have sent maids or their secretaries to buy it, but Catherine beat me to talk.
“You also know that if Dylan and Anya were here, they would do it for her, but they were out of town,” she continued and glanced at the cake box. “If I had the time to stop at that bakeshop, you know I’d do it for Angela, right?”
I bit my bottom lip, stopping myself from cursing. This was what I got from asking her to tell me what was on her mind.
“I don’t have cash, Catherine, and that damn bakeshop only accepts cash!” I took the throw pillow on the couch and squeezed it, gripping it tighter and imagining it was Lex’s neck.
She raised her eyebrows, and she pursed her lips for a second. “Finn Mars has no cash!” she exclaimed, shaking her head.
“Catherine, I was robbed last night,” I muttered annoyingly at her.
She blinked and was quiet for a few seconds. “How exactly were you robbed last night? I just saw you at the party, you have a car, and Jimmy didn’t mention you being robbed.” Jimmy was Olivia’s driver, but since I drank last night, Sky asked him to drive for me, not wanting me to go home alone since he saw me drinking.
I groaned, pressing my lips tighter, not wanting to answer her because if I did, she would know what happened last night, tell Frank and Sky about it, and I would be a laughing stock in my brother’s office.
“Never mind,” I said, closing my eyes and sighing deeply. “I’ll just go back later at the bakeshop and bring it to their place. I missed the triplets and the twins,” I said and opened my eyes when the door opened.
Angela and Frank exited my brother’s office, and before she greeted me, her eyes darted at the cake box on Catherine’s table.
“Long story, Anj.” I massaged my forehead. “I’ll drop by later and buy the whole bakeshop for you.”
She smirked, sitting on the couch. “No need to do that, Finn. Just the mango tart, please.” She touched her still flat belly. “You heard that, right? Uncle Finn will bring the tart later.”
I turned to Frank. “Any male secretary you can recommend? I don’t want a female secretary,” I clucked my tongue and looked briefly at Catherine. “No offense, but I already had three secretaries taking leave just because of menstrual cramps, going on an anniversary date, and resigning because of pregnancy excuse.”
Frank shook his head and returned to Sky’s private office. I heaved a sigh and turned my eyes to Angela as she answered her phone. I could stare at her all day, and I was sure I wouldn’t get tired looking at her, but she’s off limits.
“Oh, hi!” she greeted happily. “Just tell the clerk at the front desk you’re going to meet me. I’m in Sky’s office,” she said as she listened again and then laughed a bit before speaking again. “I understand. See you,” she ended the call and smiled excitedly at me. “The triplets want to learn music, so I was hoping she could spare time on the weekend for the music lessons,” Angela said, and I nodded, pretending to know the whole music lesson story.
She rose to her feet, walking toward the restroom. Catherine stood up and went to Sky’s office, leaving me alone on the couch.
When I heard the ‘ding’ sound of the elevator, I turned my head in its direction and saw a familiar face walking toward Catherine’s table.
‘Well, well, well!’ I uttered in silence, my blood boiling in rage as I blocked her way.
“Lex?” I asked, making sure she was the same woman I was with last night. Even if she didn’t answer, I knew she was Lex, the magician I met last night. Only now, she looked different, more conservative rather than aggressive like the previous night. Today she wore a knee-length overall denim jumper dress, a long sleeve white shirt under the denim jumper, and white sneakers.
“Yes?” she answered, half-smiling at me as if wondering why I knew her name.
I scoffed, realizing she was that same woman. I looked at her from head to toe, and I was right last night that she was more beautiful in broad daylight.
“Don’t you recognize me?” I asked her, leaning forward to her, meeting her brown eyes.
She narrowed her eyes for a while, then slowly shook her head. “I’m sorry, but…” she twitched her lips and continued, “I really don’t know you. Have we met before?”
“Ha!” I scoffed and wrinkled my nose. “Do you have a split personality?” I snarled at her, causing her to step back. “You didn’t remember what happened last night?” I asked angrily, but maintaining a low voice, not wanting to get their attention in Sky’s private office.
She opened her mouth and shook her head.
I didn’t really care about the money, but I was pissed at what she did to me, leaving me on the rooftop, sitting on the deck seat with my manhood exposed to the sky. Not to forget that I desired to be with her last night, wanting to thrust my member to her core.
Heat crept through my body. “Maybe this would remind you of who I am, Lex, and who you messed with.”
Forgetting I was on Sky’s office floor, I placed my hand on the back of her neck, and my other hand grabbed the cheek of her butt, surprising her. I bet her heart stopped beating when I pulled her toward me, arching my bulge to hers as I molded my mouth to her soft lips.
“Nice try!” I hissed when she pressed her lips tighter, not welcoming my tongue as she wriggled her body to escape from me. I released her and expected she would push me or step back. Instead, her palm landed on my cheek, slapping me so hard that my spirit seemed to have left my body for a second.
I was sure I heard not just one gasp but two.
Lex was panting as she glared at me. “First, I don’t have a split personality. Second, I don’t know you,” she growled, but when her eyes caught Angela looking at us, her cheeks turned crimson red, lowering her head.
“What’s this? What’s happening?” Sky asked, not angry but looking amused at what he had seen.
I raised my hand and pointed my index finger at her. “She’s the one who robbed me last night!” I looked at Catherine.
“What?” Lex asked, aghast at my accusation. She opened her mouth to explain, but I didn’t give her a chance.
“Return my money to me,” I said angrily, walking toward her to grab her hand, but Angela came in between us, blocking her from me.
“Calm down, young Mars,” she chuckled, raising her eyebrows at Sky. “Help me here, Sky,” she said amusingly.
Sky held my arm, but I continued to growl at her, not minding Frank and Catherine chuckling quietly at me.
“You could be wrong,” Sky tapped my shoulder, trying to calm me.
“I’m sure she’s that same woman!” I wrinkled my nose, ready to attack and unsure why I wanted to hold her again when I had no intention of hurting her.
She hissed at me like she was ready to attack me as well. “I’m not that same woman!”
Then, she surprised me when she calmed down and heaved a sigh.
“You must have met Lexa last night,” she said as her face changed from angry to embarrassed. “I’m Lexi, her twin sister.” She gazed at me with humiliation written all over her face.
Twin? I heaved a deep sigh, realizing I barked at the wrong tree.
Looking exactly like the same tree.
“How much did she get from you? I’ll just pay it,” she asked, upset at her sister.
“Never mind,” I calmed down because I didn’t really care about the money because what I wanted was for her sister to pay me for the service she promised me.
(Lexi’s POV)Luna made me more anxious as she followed me while I paced worriedly in the living room. I glanced at the time, wanting to scream at my twin sister. She promised me she would hurry back as soon as she got money from Aunt Becky, our mother’s sister and the only living relative we knew.We were in our last year of high school when our father, an underground mining operator, died in an accident at work. Some of my father’s coworkers and friends encouraged our mother to sue the company, but she did not push through with it because, first off, she was pregnant, and second, she was in her ninth month of pregnancy. Instead, Mom accepted the little amount she got from the company and used it to start again.Lexa was horrified by her decision, but she explained that she was only being practical, not wanting us to starve and not to stop studying. But Dad seemed sad in heaven without our mother, and just three months after his death, Mom died of hypothermia when a strong typhoon hit
(Lexi’s POV)‘I sold my soul to the devil.’ I remembered what Lexa told me last night. My heart broke, imagining my twin sister desperate to seek money for our Aliyah. How exactly did she sell her soul? It was a question I wanted to bring up last night, but Mr. Gorgeous-But-Rude just answered my question now.Fighting my tears, I took my wallet, but when I opened it, the cash I had reminded me it was enough for my fare to return to the hospital; otherwise, I would have to walk. I have never been so embarrassed in my whole life, but I couldn’t call my sister to clear her name because the moment I agreed with her to pay the down payment, I considered myself an accomplice to her crime.“How much did she get from you?” I asked again, but my voice was lower, almost not audible. I raised my head, meeting his eyes, but I wanted to jump back whenever he glared at me.“Why don’t you ask her? If you really have a twin, call her,” he gave me his phone, and it took me a few seconds to take it,
(Lexi’s POV)I imagined a small eating place, but when we arrived, it was a fine dining restaurant, and I immediately recognized the two Michelin stars. I almost couldn’t enter the door because if it was one of Frank’s pranks, I have no money to pay for his lavish choice. It was not a date, but he led me to the far corner of the dining area, and the waiter came in a hurry to get our order as soon as we sat.“The usual, Ivan,” he said, smiling at him.He nodded and left us.I didn’t see the ‘usual’ menu, not even the menu card. If only I had known this was his plan, I should have just lied about having food allergies, like eating any kind of food gave me allergies.“This is not a date, right?” My eyes were wide as I looked at Frank, sitting across from me.He shook his head. “If this is a date, I will not bring you here and let my brother torture me twenty-four hours.”I made a quick look at the restaurant and leaned my head forward. “You own this restaurant?”He shook his head. “My br
(Lexi’s POV)We returned to the office just in time for my appointment with Angela. Frank led me to the couch and told me to wait for Catherine to call me, then he returned to his table to work. I took my cell phone and checked Lexa’s messages. I didn’t hear her call, but I replied to her message that I would return to the hospital as soon as possible.Catherine went out of Sky’s office. “Lexi, you can come inside now. Good luck!”“Good luck!” Frank glanced and winked at me.My cheeks turned apple red, and I didn’t know why I felt nervous when Angela and I would only talk about the children’s music lessons. When I entered the large private office, my eyes looked for Angela immediately, but she wasn’t around.“Please, take a seat, Lexi,” Sky said, gesturing me to sit on the chair in front of his table. “My children’s nanny called, and she couldn’t stop my girls in their little argument, so Angela had to go home for a while to check on them. She said she’ll call you later, and maybe she
(Finn’s POV)Lexa! Lexi!I should have known it from a person who was born with a twin. I was too mad at Lexa and stupid to realize they were two different people. Just like my nieces, it wasn’t easy to see the difference at first glance. Besides, when I met Lexa, it was not well lit on the rooftop, but somehow, I was caught with a need and her charm, binding me in her spell that I believed in her magic.Last night, I spent many hours deciding if I should call Lexa, but every time I asked myself for a good reason why I would do it, I could not think of a valid reason for doing so. I let Lexi use my cellphone yesterday, not because I wanted to catch her if she were lying to me, but I did it because if she weren’t that person I was hoping to see again, I would be able to get her number.I squinted as I stared at the hot woman singing on the bar’s small stage. She was singing beautifully that I never imagined I would get enchanted by a woman like this. If I knew she was so desperate to g
(Finn’s POV) “They seemed not happy that you are leaving the band,” I said, noticing the man on the drums following us with his eyes. I opened the door for her, and when we got out, she stopped, closed her eyes, and raised her head, breathing out in relief. Lexa was quiet for a few seconds, only breathing in and out. She opened her eyes and looked at me. “Don’t worry about them, Finn. They’re happy for me, going home early for the first time, not just glad going out with a handsome man with me.” She chuckled. “They’re like my family, Finn, and for years of singing with them, they had always protected me like their little sister,” she explained. “Of course,” I opened the passenger door at the back of my car, letting her in before I got in. “To the hospital,” I said to Jimmy, who nodded quietly and started the car. Our ride to our destination was not long, so starting a conversation would not be wise. I waited patiently as I had already instructed Jimmy to stop the car at the café i
(Lexi’s POV)It was as if I would be sent to a lion’s den.I took a deep breath before entering the elevator to Sky Mars’ office to see Catherine or Frank, then report to Finn Mars. After my twin sister's news last night, I had to convince myself many times that everything would be fine.Lexa must be crazy, announcing to me last night that she and Finn were an official couple but must be kept secret in public. When I asked her for a reason, she told me it was her who begged him, and as she explained, I understood and agreed with her.“Lexi, Finn’s your boss, and he’s a billionaire,” she emphasized as we talked in the empty hallway before I went home.“Are we thinking the same way?” I asked her, wanting to know if she was having doubts about Finn’s feelings for her.One corner of her mouth lifted, and she scoffed at me. “Why would a billionaire whom we have just met fall for me? We started on the wrong foot, Lexi, and because of that, he almost sent you to prison.”“I know,” I said, lo
(Lexi’s POV)“But why?” I asked curiously.A little gossip for my sister would not hurt them anyway. I still need to protect her even from my boss.“Finn’s not Sky.” She sighed. “Finn’s a nice man… a good brother, a good son, and best at his job, but a bit wet behind the ears when it comes to relationships. He’s like his children, loves to play around, except for Colonel.”I nodded, showing Catherine I understood, wanting to ask her if his children have different mothers since he has many girlfriends. I bit my bottom lip because it was something I forgot to ask Lexa last night if she knew that Finn had children.“Don’t worry, Catherine,” I smiled at her, putting my hand on top of hers on my forearm. “Even if he’s the last man on earth, I won’t fall for him,” I said, then knitted my eyebrows and laughed. “I guess I would probably change my mind if he were the last man on earth, right? I’ll get my name enlisted.”I wondered if Lexa would love to share him with me if Finn would be the la
