I might have been standing there with a “normal” face waiting for my coffee order, but inside me, a storm of epic proportions was brewing. I had fled that disastrous wedding rehearsal and ended up in this little café where I was waiting for my order. It was a small spot near Fairmount Corporation, and my final destination was the office so I could get back to work.

Work was my refuge, the only thing that seemed to be going well for me. My order was called right on time, and I picked up my cup, thanked the barista, and looked around for a small table near a window overlooking the street.

I spotted an empty one in a corner and headed there to drown in my thoughts.

“Marianne! Hey!” someone called out as I walked past.

I turned to see who it was: Matt. He was sitting at a two-person table, alone, sipping coffee with his laptop open in front of him.

“Matt… what a coincidence to run into you here, huh?” I greeted.

“It’s not a coincidence if I tell you I’ve been spending the last few we

“Are you projecting your feelings onto me? Who was the one bragging about breaking in her bed with that Matt guy? I come back, and you’re enjoying coffee with him,” Lucius said, amused. “You could be a little more discreet. We do have an agreement, last time I checked.”“An agreement? Yes. But not for exclusivity. Last I remember, you refused that,” I said, playing along.Lucius didn’t like my joke. His expression hardened.“If you’re trying to make me jealous, don’t bother. You won’t get far. What’s worked between us is the lack of drama because we’re honest about our intentions, even if they aren’t good or praiseworthy. Don’t change that.”Exactly. He said it himself. We were supposedly “honest” with each other. I had been, but had he? I doubted it.“To what extent should I trust your honesty, Lucius? You’re way ahead of me in this game,” I asked, letting my frustration slip out.He glanced at me, confused, as if he had no idea what I was talking about.“Are you mad because Cl

“Mine hasn’t been great either… If I told you the things he’s done to me lately,” I laughed, more relaxed now, noting that he still held my hand.It was too late to notice where we were heading. I hadn’t asked Lucius even once where we were going. And now that I thought about it, we seemed to be on a route very close to my apartment building.“Where are we going?” I asked suspiciously.“Where do you think? You’ve got an apartment to show me. It’s the least I deserve. I’ve been a good fiancé, much better than the last one, I can swear it,” he said easily.I could have let myself be swayed by his natural charm, but this time I didn’t. The matter with my stepmother was still unresolved. I pulled my hand away and got more serious. He glanced at me sideways.“What now?”“That’s what I want to know…” I took a breath. “I just came from the most chaotic, pathetic wedding rehearsal. Amanda threw a tantrum, said she doesn’t want to get married.”“And how does that affect us? Our wedding w

Lies, lies, and more lies. Amelia’s last name should have been "Lie," and her profession before marrying my father must have been that of a natural-born con artist. There was no other explanation. The story my stepmother always stuck to was that she was a foreign heiress, childless, and with plenty of money to invest. She claimed to have fallen in love with my father to the point where she didn’t care that he was already married. Then she gave him a daughter, Amanda. Her supposed only daughter. I remembered it clearly, all the drama from Amelia about how she had sacrificed her body for her "only child." How difficult it had been being a "first-time mother." She said it with such conviction that no one dared contradict her.“That doesn't make any sense,” I blurted out reflexively.“It doesn’t make sense that you’re falling for... our sister’s game,” he said, uncomfortable, shaking his head with his eyes closed. That reality hit me. If Amanda and I shared the same father, and Amanda

“Was Amelia really who she said she was? What else had she been hiding?” I asked.“From what I found out, she created a whole new identity,” he explained as he wandered through my living room, taking his time to analyze every detail and feel every surface. “She changed her last name and pretended she was never married or had a kid. Her degrees and qualifications are probably fake as well. I’m surprised she didn’t change her first name, though. Maybe her narcissism wouldn’t let her.”“She created a new life... but it still doesn’t add up. Your father must’ve had more money than mine. Why leave him for Serge?”By then, Lucius was inspecting my kitchen, checking the ceiling and the counters, and I followed him, puzzled by his behavior.“Because she couldn’t control him with my grandmother around,” he confessed.“What?”“My grandmother was a woman who knew what she was doing and knew exactly who she had as a son—a drunk and a spendthrift. The money was hers, and she controlled it. Am

I knew I sounded more brazen than usual, something that made Lucius even more uncertain. He stopped looking at the floor and fixed his gaze on me.“It’s not the same…” he muttered, unsure.“Why wouldn’t it be?”“You were a virgin. You haven’t been with anyone else. Stop playing with the idea that you have. You’re in love with me.”A second, more voracious and hungry laugh escaped my throat. I laughed right in his face because of the sheer audacity Lucius had. He really said that.“I’m not in love with you, you arrogant jerk. What makes you think that?” I mocked him further, even though I was lying—I was, in fact, in love with him.“You can’t resist me, and you make up excuses to push me away. If I ignored your stupid boundaries, I’d have you moaning in that bed, completely satisfied. Very satisfied,” he boasted, bringing his mouth dangerously close to mine. This closeness was unsettling, the fact that we were sharing the same air. I also didn’t like how he was slipping his knee

I couldn’t believe what I was shopping for—a steamer to touch up my maid of honor dress. It hadn’t been a rushed purchase, but it was definitely last minute as the next day would be the date of my sister’s wedding to my ex-fiance.That’s why I was wandering through the small appliance section of the department store. I had been staring at the specs of a vertical steamer for several minutes, thinking it was the most appropriate and easy-to-use option for what I needed. Then, my phone rang from my purse, and I saw Estelle’s name on the screen. She was one of Amanda’s bridesmaids. I answered.“Marianne, what time will you get to the port? We can’t afford any more delays; we have a strict sailing schedule with the captain,” she explained. Her words sounded absurd to me. They made no sense at all. The only thing making sense was the discount on the blue steamer I was holding.“Why would I go to the port? Could you clarify?”“For your sister’s bachelorette party. Hello?” she replied, a

My sister immediately reacted to the contact, ripping off her blindfold and looking at the man in horror.“What is this? Who are you?” she asked, alarmed.“It doesn’t matter who I am. What matters is that you’re the bride. A round of applause for the bride!” the stripper announced, trying to get everyone excited. The ladies screamed in delight, completely engrossed in the moment. So much so that they didn’t notice that the bride was clearly uncomfortable. The guy danced, stepping back a bit to help Amanda relax, but she couldn’t. Her face showed that she felt harassed.I looked at her so-called friends, who were more interested in taking photos, cheering, dancing, or drinking. Was no one going to stop this? When the stripper ripped off his pants and practically shoved his crotch in Amanda’s face, I had to step in.“That’s enough. Stop,” I ordered, putting my arm against his chest and pushing him away from Amanda. The room filled with confusion at my sudden action. The stripper lo

The sound of Amanda’s body hitting the water snapped me out of my daze. She had done it. That crazy lunatic had actually thrown herself into the water.“What did you do?! Murderer!” Estelle screamed at me.My face showed nothing but shock as I realized I wasn’t alone. About five of the bridesmaids were standing nearby, processing what had just happened. There was surprise, fear, and panic.“Stop the captain! The bride fell into the water!” Marissa started yelling at the crew members nearby. One girl ran to alert the captain while two others threw life preservers into the dark waters. As they hit the surface, Amanda’s arms emerged, flailing and crying for help. She was drowning and couldn’t grab hold of the life rings on her own. Two men dove into the water to rescue her.By now, the yacht had come to a stop, and everyone onboard—bridesmaids and crew—was focused on the accident. The men managed to get a hold of Amanda, securing a life preserver around her as she coughed from swallo

Sara Brown's P.O.V."Didn't we agree you wouldn't come, Mom?" Richard asked, his voice low and disappointed."Richard, you too?" Victoria exclaimed, her voice trembling with a mix of hurt and indignation."What else did you expect, Victoria?" Julian interjected, crossing his arms. "We practically had to beg Sara for permission just to see Matthew. Meanwhile, you've done nothing to make amends yet here you are, demanding things. That's not how this works.""Do you want me to apologize to Sara?" Victoria's voice cracked as she looked at me, her emotions on full display.I would never trust Victoria, and I certainly would never leave my son alone with her unsupervised. But in this moment, her vulnerability chipped away at some of my hardened resolve. Life had been so good lately, so full of joy and love, that my heart no longer had room for resentment."You don't need to apologize to me," I said calmly. "The people you owe an apology to are your sons."Victoria's eyes widened, her

Sara Brown's P.O.V.Six months later.Becoming a mother was one of those adventures I never knew I needed, but I'd never been more grateful for taking the leap—especially with Lawrence by my side. Now, here we were, standing in front of a flower-draped altar nestled in the woods of the Brown family estate.Getting married in this spot felt symbolic. It had been our sanctuary as kids, the place where we'd escaped from the grown-ups and shared secrets. It was fitting that my best friend, the boy who'd been by my side through thick and thin, was now becoming my husband.Behind us was a small gathering of family and close friends. The Browns—ever-expanding with a small army of kids—were all present, as were a handful of Lawrence's relatives, including his brothers, Richard and Julian. We'd kept the guest list to just sixty people, making this a more intimate celebration than anyone would've expected from a Brown-Lewis wedding.Still, it was perfect. Everyone we loved was here. And the

I looked at our baby's tiny face, and the urge to cry overwhelmed me again. He was absolutely perfect."Are you going to keep crying?" Sara teased with a mischievous grin. "If you don't stop, I won't give you another one."I wiped my tears immediately, not wanting to take any chances. She burst out laughing, her radiant energy filling the room."So," quickly shifting topics, she leaned forward slightly, "what are we naming him? We agreed we'd know when we saw him. I've got a name from the shortlist in mind. Do you?""I do," I replied, smiling."Okay, let's say it together," she suggested, and I nodded. "On three. One, two, three—""Matthew!" we both exclaimed in unison. We stared at each other before breaking into matching grins. Sara started clapping in excitement over our perfect sync. I laughed at her enthusiasm, but something on the hospital TV caught my attention—a news report about yesterday's gubernatorial election. Images of Isabelle, the winner, flashed across the scree

Lawrence Lewis's P.O.V.Three months later...Just when I thought I couldn't be any happier with Sara loving me, life proved me wrong. Every day felt like a new peak of joy. A few months ago, I believed I had reached the ultimate high when she accepted my proposal during our trip to Finland. I'd asked her under the northern lights in a private and intimate moment, just the two of us—just like our entire relationship had been. The fallout from canceling my engagement to Emma had been relatively manageable for me. There were no financial or legal repercussions, and I narrowly escaped the disgrace of almost becoming the son-in-law of a criminal like Mark. But to say I avoided all drama would be a lie. The rumors and gossip surrounding how Sara and I had gotten together were relentless.I was usually a calm man, but any criticism aimed at Sara, accusing her of "breaking up" my previous engagement, turned me into a beast. Sara would always tell me to ignore the noise, that only we knew

I stood there frozen, feeling every gaze lock onto me. It was as if time had stopped. No one spoke, no one moved—they just stared. Sweat started trickling down places I didn’t even know could sweat.“Hi… how’s everyone doing?” I asked, my voice hesitant.I braced myself for the shouting, the dramatic exclamations, the scolding even. Instead, the extroverted ones in the room simply smiled at me while the quieter ones went back to what they were doing, almost as if nothing had happened. The initial wave of attention just… evaporated.“As I was saying,” Uncle Lucius continued, picking up right where he’d left off, “if you don’t finish your vegetables, we’ll give them to the lion in the forest.”My jaw dropped. This table—the entire Brown family—was completely unfazed. Even Lawrence had that knowing smile on his face, almost as if he’d expected this exact reaction. Before I could recover, Aunt Lucia and Aunt Marianne came over and pulled me into tight hugs.“You look gorgeous, Sara. A

Richard's voice broke the silence as he gathered his courage. "We'd like to add Duke and Monarch for me, and the boat for Julian. With that, we'll be ready to sign the agreement."I rubbed my ears, almost certain I had misheard."The horses and the boat? That's all you want?" Lawrence asked, his tone tinged with disbelief."Yes," Julian confirmed, his voice hesitant. "We believe... they're of great sentimental value to us. And they were gifts. They just... weren't officially transferred to us."Lawrence's eyes darted between them as if trying to confirm whether these were the same brothers he'd been fighting with."That's it?" he repeated, his suspicion evident."That's it," Richard said, though his discomfort was plain to see."What are you two plotting?" Lawrence asked, narrowing his eyes. The twins exchanged confused glances."Nothing?" Julian said, his tone growing defensive. "What are you plotting? You told us you wouldn't give us anything but then sent this offer out of

I couldn't help but notice the sadness etched onto Lawrence's face. He'd always said he wouldn't give his brothers anything. Yet here he was, not only offering them a portion of the inheritance but also bracing himself for their inevitable demands and negotiating with them."Wouldn't it have been easier to just offer them exactly what you were willing to give from the start?" I asked as I leaned against his shoulder, wrapping my arms around him. His sadness was palpable, and it was breaking my heart. Just moments ago, he'd been so happy. "Just say 'Take it or leave it' and then forget about them."Lawrence sighed, his gaze distant. "I know them. And I know myself. I can't lay the blame for all my hardships on them like I do with Victoria. Despite what I said during the will reading, I know they deserve more than what my father left them.""You have a heart of gold, Ren," I murmured, kissing his cheek. "Don't let those brats melt it down, okay?"He chuckled softly, though his sadnes

I swayed my hips rhythmically against his body, the two of us joined in that intimate connection we'd rediscovered nearly every night since the chaos with a certain corrupt official had come to an end.As Lawrence neared his release, he called my name, his voice rough with passion. I teased him by sucking on the thumb he'd slipped into my mouth, which was all it took for him to shut his eyes tightly as the force of his climax overtook him. I followed him into that blissful release just a moment later.Utterly satisfied, I collapsed beside him on the bed, both of us completely naked, basking in the warmth of each other's bodies. My breathing was still ragged as Lawrence shifted closer, his hands roaming gently over my hair, my chest, and finally, my stomach. The way his hand lingered there told me exactly what he was about to ask—again."Are you sure you're comfortable with this?" he asked."No. It was terrible. I never want to have another orgasm for the rest of my life," I replied

"What's going on here?" I asked Sara suspiciously."Just go with the flow," she replied, opening my car door with a grin.I hesitated but decided to follow her advice—or at least try. After exchanging cheek kisses, I walked over to where Jason was waiting. I tucked the envelope with my test results into my pocket. As I reached him, he took my hand, and we started walking up a hill in the park."When did you ask Sara to bring me here?" I asked, curious."That's a secret," he said with a chuckle. "And since you two are such close friends now—""Close friends?" I interrupted, raising a brow. "You think we're really friends?""That's how it seems. You smile a lot when you're with her," he replied."Do I?" I considered it for a moment, warmth spreading through my chest. "Maybe we are."Jason smiled but kept silent. As we climbed one of the hills, I was taken aback by the breathtaking view of the city spread before us. But even more surprising was the blanket laid out on the ground,
