Olivia ~•~I turned on the volume of the car stereo to the highest as I drove through the city. The street lights reflecting on the dark clouds were therapeutic to watch. It had been long since I drove out in the night. I always made sure I finished my day’s activities and was inside with my kids when the day became dark. But I had to drive over to my mother’s house to pick up the kids. After numerous failed attempts to reach me, Alexander settled on dropping off the kids with my mother. I knew she wouldn’t let me go off the hook easily because Alexander must have said some things to her when he dropped off the kids. Plus, I ended our conversation and I was certain she would want to continue from where she stopped. On my way there, Alexander was still blowing up my phone. He was so persistent. I thought he would have given up on trying to reach me. I felt a little bit bad for ignoring him, so I finally decided to answer his call. “Hey!” I said nonchalantly as I paused my music a
Alexander ~•~I didn’t hear a single word that came out of the host’s mouth. My eyes were focused on the entrance of the building. I was watching patiently as I waited for Olivia to walk through the door with the familiar dress I had picked out for her. It was a masked party, but I could certainly recognize her through her dress. Even if I had checked in with her the previous day, confirming if she was still attending the charity event, I still had some doubts that she would come. I already prepared my heart for the disappointment but a part of me still had hope. I wanted to confess my feelings to Olivia. I wanted to be real with her and stopped playing games or listening to my family. It had been over a week since she promised to speak to me but she never did. I wanted to talk to her about us but she never gave me the chance. The most frustrating part was that I couldn’t find anything about the mystery man she went on a date with. My private investigator was only able to get his
Olivia ~•~I spent most of my evening at the salon, preparing for the charity event. I had second thoughts about attending but I just decided to go because I promised Alexander I would be present. He had asked me multiple times to confirm if I was certain that I would attend and I assured him that I wouldn’t miss it for anything. I hadn’t been the nicest person to him in the past week and I wanted to make it up to him. I refused to call him even though I assured him I would talk about the Maxim situation. On multiple occasions, he had tried bringing it up but I always changed the conversation. I didn’t want to talk to Alexander about anything concerning my personal life. I didn’t owe that to him. The only thing I was allowed to speak to him about was issues concerning the twins. I was proud of myself for setting those boundaries and didn’t want to compromise them anytime soon. I felt bad for treating him that way but I felt bad for myself for having feelings for a man who had ano
Chapter 139Alexander Burke ~•~I had a confused expression registered on my face and it took me a minute before I realized that I should be chasing after her. She responded with a nod when I asked if there was still a chance of us being together, but ran away almost immediately. Her actions were really confusing. Maybe I had made her feel overwhelmed with everything I said to her. Or maybe she felt bad because she was already in a secret relationship with that Max guy. Panic surged through me but I tried to stay calm as I hurriedly walked through the crowd. I needed to find her before she could leave the premises. As I walked out of the building, my eyes darted around the parking lot to see if I could find her. But it was too late, I didn’t see any sign of Olivia at the premises. I facepalmed myself when I realized what I had done. The confession could have waited. I shouldn’t have said all those things to her in a crowded space like that. I had fucked up and pushed her away.
Alexander Burke ~•~She cut me off before I could even complete my sentence. “Yes, I wasn’t at the party. My zip got spoiled and I wanted to text you to inform you about it. That was when I saw your text.” Her voice sounded so genuine. “Huh? Wh….at?” I stuttered as I tried to make sense of the situation. If Olivia didn’t attend the party, who was the person in the same dress I had sent to her? “Are you sure?” I asked, my voice laced with confusion. I just poured out my feelings to the wrong woman. It was unbelievable. Olivia sent me a photo, showing me the green dress which was carefully placed on her bed. I zoomed in and saw the damaged zip at the back of the dress. I shook my head in disbelief, trying to make sense of what had just happened. “So let me get this straight,” Olivia asked with a chuckle. “Someone else was at the party and you thought it was me? Then the person ran away?” I nodded even though she wasn’t there with me. “Y…yeah.” I stuttered, still trying to make s
Olivia ~•~As soon as my eyes fluttered open, my mind went back to the events that happened the previous night. I couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. I was also curious to know what Alexander had said to the person to make them run out of the party. I also wanted to know who the mystery person was. My eyes were still thick with sleep but I couldn’t get back to bed because I had a long day ahead of me. Even if it was the weekend, I had office work to do. I also had to plan Amanda’s birthday party. Letting out a loud yawn, I stretched my legs before climbing out of the bed. I went into the bathroom and washed my face, so I would feel less sleepy. When I was done, I headed over to the kid's room. I opened the door quietly, so I wouldn’t disturb them if they were still asleep. A proud smile flashed across my face when I saw them sleeping peacefully. I always felt that way whenever I saw them. I mean, I was so lucky to be their mother. I was so lucky to raise two adorable babie
Olivia ~•~“I’m sorry,” Alexander added when he saw my flat expression. “Maybe I shouldn’t have said that.” He continued, letting out a deep breath. I didn’t know how to feel about what he had just said to me. I had no idea what to say to him. What of the deal he had with Tricia? If she could stoop so low to impersonate me at the event, she wasn’t going to let him go so easily. “And what did Tricia have to say about it?” I asked, arching a brow at him. “How did she react to your little confession?” I added, letting out a soft chuckle. Alexander replied, scratching his brows. “She asked me if I had forgotten about our deal.” It was as though we were going in circles. I already made it clear to Alexander that I couldn’t have anything to do with him as long as he had Tricia in his life. I opened my mouth to speak but Alexander stopped me before I could say anything. “I know what you’re about to say but it doesn’t matter, I won’t say anything about us being together until the year i
Alexander ~•~Olivia’s nonchalant attitude to the situation only fueled my frustration. I was confessing my feelings to her but she didn’t seem fazed about it. I wasn’t going to forgive myself if she eventually started a serious relationship with the Maxim man. I hadn’t even gotten all the answers to my numerous questions when my buzzing phone interrupted our conversation. I wanted to ignore the call but Olivia gestured for me to answer it. I pulled out my phone from my back pocket and saw that it was Emily calling me. Emily barely calls me except it was really important. I stepped aside to take the call. “Alexander, you need to come back home right away!” Emily’s worried voice echoed from the other end of the line. I ran my hands through my hair, my mind racing with different thoughts. Her tone made me so worried. “Why? What is going on?” I asked, my voice laced with curiosity. “It’s about Jason and his biological father,” Emily replied and I responded with a frustrated sigh.
