Olivia could sense that something was wrong the very moment she stopped in front of her apartment building. Something was different, the air seemed tensed, and every person around was staring at her as though she was a stranger. They knew who she was, she doubted anybody in the city was unaware of who she was. Yet, they glared at her with such an odd look on their faces.
Her eyes scanned the surrounding, searching for something that could be the reason for the sudden attention. Her eyes fell on a few things she hadn't recognized, the most notable being a brand new sports car that rested by the far end of the building. The people who lived in this apartment weren't poor, so seeing a new sports cars wasn't exactly a big deal. Olivia only came to find out the reason why she had been getting those glares when she walked up the stairs and found Noah Grant standing in front of her door. Her heart had almost jumped out of her body, and she felt like turning around and leaving the moment her eyes caught sight of him. However, Noah had spotted her, and he didn't give her the opportunity she needed to make her escape. "You're finally home, I was getting a bit worried." Noah said, his voice smooth, betraying none of the darkness Olivia knew lurked beneath the surface. He pushed off the door, taking a step toward her, and she instinctively took a step back. "What are you doing here? How did you find me—" She paused after she figured out the answer to her second question. Her home address were probably on the files that she had submitted to Rock Enterprise when she had requested for their cooperation. Now that Noah was the owner of the company, he likely had access to that information. "Shouldn't we get inside first? People are staring, and it wouldn't be nice if they got the wrong idea." Noah suggested before moving aside to give Olivia the space she needed. Olivia took in a deep breath, her hand shaking out of fear and rage. She wanted to scream out, to yell at Noah and ask him out of her apartment. However, there were too many eyes and open cameras for her to act so irrationally. With a forced smile, she walked to the door, opened it gently and walked inside, almost slamming it on Noah's face. But the man was swift, pushing in a part of his feet to prevent the door from all the way. Now, Olivia had no choice but to act like it was a mistake before eventually letting him in. "What do you want from me, Noah?! What is your problem with me?!" She inquired, her voice filled with inquisition and anger. Noah closed the door behind him with a soft click, his movements slow and deliberate. Olivia stood rigid, her heart pounding in her chest, every instinct telling her to run, but there was nowhere to go. Noah's presence here had already stirred a commotion, and taking this drama outside would not do anything good for their reputation. "Come on, Olivia, don't be like that," Noah finally replied, his voice dripping with feigned concern. He took a step closer, and Olivia took an equal pace backwards. Noah smiled, before resting on the counter beside him. "I just wanted to see you, make sure you're doing okay. It's been a while, and what sort of husband would I be to not care for his wife.." Husband? Did he really just say husband? Olivia wondered, her eyes burning with confusion and hate. "Husband?" She chuckled mockingly. "You're sick if you ever think that you're still my husband. We're divorced—" "I never signed those papers, Olivia." Noah interjected, raising the documents he had kept hidden for Olivia to see. "We never went to court, did we? You never stayed back to finalize anything, right? And I didn't bother signing those papers, so legally you're still my wife!" Olivia's breath caught in her throat and she felt her body stop moving as she stared at the paper in Noah's hands. He wasn't lying, it was the same paper from that day, and now she couldn't stop her body from trembling. His words echoed continuously in her head, and the more she thought of about it, the more her body seemed to lose its functionality. How could this be happening? How had she overlooked something so crucial? Everything Noah had said was true, and the realization was slowly driving her insane. "You… you can't be serious," Olivia stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes darted from the papers to Noah's smug expression, her mind racing. She had been so desperate to escape him, to put everything behind her, that she had left before ensuring everything was finalized. She never imagined Noah would use that against her. "Oh, I'm very serious," Noah said, his tone cold now, the pretense of concern long gone. He casually waved the papers, letting them dangle in the air between them like a noose. Desperately, Olivia snatched the papers from Noah's grasp and reduced it to shreds. "Nonsense! You're insane if you think you can come here and lie to my face!" She closed in on Noah, her finger pointed at him in a threatening manner. "It doesn't matter whether you signed the papers or not, I honestly don't care! You ceased being my husband the day you left me to die in that hospital. I waited for you, but what did you do? Nothing! If you really think these papers would force me to do anything you're gravely mistaken. Now get out of my house before I do something we will both regret!" Noah backed away, not because he was afraid, but because he didn't want to cause any scene here. "It doesn't matter how much you try to deny it, you're still my wife, Olivia! And until we're legally divorced, I'll never leave your life!" Olivia's hands trembled with rage the shredded pieces of paper fluttered to the floor like a flurry of dead leaves. She wanted nothing more than to squeeze the life out of Noah Grant at the moment. But why was he doing this, why did he suddenly want her back after all these years? Was it because she was now successful? It couldn't be, Noah wasn't after her money, not when he had more than she did. So what exactly did he want? She was curious, but at the moment she wanted nothing more than for him to leave her apartment.A week had passed since Olivia encountered Noah in her apartment, and while they hadn't run into each other in a week now, she had managed to find out why exactly he had come back to taunt her after a whole decade. She hadn't really paid attention to his life after she had left him, but after a couple research, she finally fell upon Noah's problems. His half Brother, Damian Grant, was out to destroy his life. Olivia knew about Damian, the illegitimate son of the Grant family. He had been one of the few people who made life bearable for her while she had still been married to Noah. Since he hadn't been raised and spoiled as a child, Damian was a better human being than Noah, and while he had his own faults as well, he was a lot more tolerable than his half brother. From the article she had read online, she had come to know that Damian had contested Noah's ownership of the family's company. Ten years ago, Damian had been single, but had gotten married three years later, and had a daug
Michael glanced over his phone for the millionth time, expecting Amelia to call anytime soon. He was still going over everything in his head, and the more he thought about it, the more strength drained from his body. He had no idea how to break the news to Amelia or Olivia. But it was necessary he does, he wouldn't be able to cheat on Olivia, he cared for her and genuinely loved her with all his heart. After half an hour of waiting, the long awaited call finally came through, and Michael wasted no second in answering. "Where are you?" He demanded the moment he answered the phone, moving away from places where he could be overheard. "At the airport, you said you'd come pick me up, right? Or should I come straight to your office—""I'm coming to pick you up!" Michael interjected sharply, not letting Amelia finish her words, or the idea of ever visiting him while he was at work. Amelia wasn't the quiet type of girl, she always loved being the center of attention, and Michael was certa
Micheal remained stunned for a good minute, unsure if he was actually staring at the sweet Amelia he used to know. He hadn't seen this part of her, and it had genuinely scared him. "I..I'll drive you home." He managed to squeeze out after a minute of awkward silence between them."No, that's no fun at all. Show me around town, let me get to know your new life." Amelia suggested, a clever scheme to find out the lady who Michael had tried to replace her with. If Michael succumbed to her request, then chances were that she would meet this lady that Michael had fallen in love with. Michael on the hand was quick to catch on to Amelia's plans, and immediately dismissed that idea. "You're exhausted, you should get some rest. We'll save the tour for another day—""I insist! It's my body, I know what's best for me." Amelia interjected sharply. Michael clenched the steering wheel, unsure how to deal with Amelia's stubbornness. He knew what she was up to, and she wasn't doing much to cover he
Olivia paused for a moment, her gaze shifting from Amelia to Michael. She arched a curious brow at him, still unsure if she had heard correctly, or if all this was some sort of prank. Nevertheless, she took Amelia's outstretched hand, a practiced smile playing on her lips as they shook hands. "It's nice to meet you, Amelia. I hope you enjoy your stay here." Olivia said before turning to Michael a second time. She expected something from him, a sign perhaps, or even a shift in his nervousness. However, Michael stood still, his gaze focused on the ground instead of her eyes. She didn't push further, she merely turned towards Amelia who had a snarky smile on her face. "Enjoy your tour." She concluded before walking away from the two of them. She had completely forgotten why she needed Michael in the first place, all she could feel right now was anger and betrayal, but she didn't act on those feelings. She wouldn't act on them until she had heard what Michael had to say. "She's g
Olivia found herself staring blankly at the computer screen, the way she had for nearly the past fifteen minutes. With a shake of her head, she drew herself out of her thoughts and tried to focus on getting some work done. But no matter how she tried, the events that had happened downstairs continued to play out in her mind repeatedly. That other woman, Amelia... The way she had acted with Michael spoke of a very long term relationship. She had introduced herself as his fiance, and the hesitation she had seen on Michael's face had been nearly enough to break her heart. Michael had been something she had never thought she would meet after what she had endured with Noah. Noah had done terrible things to Olivia's mental and physical state. All the times he had treated her like she was worthless, and she had been unable to realize all the signals. But once she had, it had almost been too late. She had lost her child but she had been fortunate to come out with her life. In the years aft
Olivia's eyelids drew back just seconds before the alarm clock beside her bed released a particularly aggravating ring that was guaranteed to wake the dead. Her pale blue eyes flickered around the room for a few moments before the ringing became too much to bear. Placing a firm hand on the device, she turned off the alarm and moved the soft blankets off her body. "Sometimes I wonder why I even still keep that thing around," the woman monologued, her gaze momentarily fixated on the annoying machine. Olivia had always been a light sleeper and an early riser, which meant she did not really need the clock. But she still left the small shoebox sized object sit on the bedside table everyday. Just in case. Olivia went down the stairs and straight to her laptop where she wasted no time in pulling up her emails. There was a notification there for a new one and she pulled it up quickly. It was a message from Damian expressing his personal thanks for the invitation to the city and an affirmat
Olivia inhaled sharply as she stepped through the heavy double glass doors of the restaurant. The cool air of the street felt soothing on her skin, although it did nothing to alleviate the sting of emotion that had coursed through her body just moments earlier. Even though Olivia had come here with her own mind full of suspicions, to actually hear them being confirmed was something else though. No, not confirmed. Damian himself had sounded uncertain when he had told her what he had. But still, it was too much of a coincidence that both of them just happened to have thought of the same possibility. And considering the situation and the man involved, that possibility was already most likely the truth. Olivia took hurried steps towards her car, doing her best not to let her emotions show on her face. In all honestly, she should have known better than to have thought that an irredeemable piece of trash like Noah could possibly have any positive intentions for her. That man was devious an
Olivia woke up with a splitting headache, balls of perspiration trickled down from her forehead as she gently tried to get her breath under control. It had been ten years already, yet she was still haunted by the same nightmare. She had been to therapy countless times, and had bills to help her calm herself, yet the nightmares persisted. It had been a while since she got one, but it wasn't a new experience. Why now? Could it be because of the call she had gotten a few days ago? She said it wouldn't let it bother her, but apparently she hadn't told herself the truth. It had been a prank call, some stupid hoodlum who thought that pretending to be her ex would be funny. Olivia was already used to these types of calls. Noah Grant was a well known figure, and their relationship hadn't been a private affair. It might have been ten years ago, but people still asked her about him in interviews and press conferences. While she would love to avoid speaking about her ex as much as she could, i
