A Hint Of Manipulation
Maria’s POV
Ailene and the lady stopped in front of our table and that was when I realized that they were standing arm in arm with pleased smiles on their faces. Smiles that were focused on Sebastian and Keith.
“Hello big brother. Hello Keith” Ailene greeted cheerfully then slightly waved at Helena and I as if she was forced to do that.
“Ailene, what are you doing here?”
“Well, Svetlana accompanied me for the conference and we decided to come check out your restaurant’s menu. It’s been a while since she sampled this gorgeous place.”
“This restaurant belongs to Sebastian as well? Just what does this man not have?” I asked myself quietly then stopped talking when I caught Sebastian staring at me.
“Svetlana accompanied you for this conference?” Sebastian asked then laughed in disbelief before he picked up his menu and perused it as if his sister and the gorgeous lady was not standing there.“Oh come on, Seb.” The lady spoke up and I raised my brow. It wasn’t her russian accent that pushed ny brow upwards but the way she called Sebastian’s name as if she was inviting him to bed. “You sound like you don’t believe that I would accompany Ai to the conference.”
“Well, that’s good. You can go ahead and pick another table and eat what you want.”
“Nah,nah. This is not the Sebastian I know. The Seb I know would have offered us seats.” Ailene shook her head then half dragged Svetlana to the empty chairs aroud our table and they sat down.
I saw Keith blew out his breath as if exhausted then he rolled his eyes and leaned backwards on his seat.
Sebastian stayed quiet but I could see that he was getting angry, and I felt sorry for him.I haven’t met all of his family members but the only two I have met were so selfish, they didn’t even care about his emotions. All that mattered was all they wanted.
“Guess what, Svetlana. They have the seafood you love so much, on the menu tonight.” Ailene and Svetlena discussed as if they were not aware that they were causing some form of discomfort among the occupants of the table.
My phone buzzed and I checked to see a message from Helena.
Helena: I don't know what this is or what she's trying to do but don't allow her to win this second round as well.
Maria: Got it!
I smiled after I dropped my phone then asked Sebastian. “Have you decided what you want to order?”
He looked up at me in surprise and stayed quiet for a while before he replied. “Yeah, here's mine.”
He showed me the menu from across the table and shifted his chair closer to mine so that I would see better.
Keith and Helena took the cue from us and started having their own conversation.
“Is it just me or are we being ignored on this table? Is that what's going on, Sebastian?” Ailene asked almost petulantly.
“No Ailene, you are just being extra.” Sebastian decided to reply her bluntly. “First of all, who invited you to this table? You walked in, pulled a seat for yourself without asking and expected us to encourage you, nah, not when your behaviour is somewhat foul.”
Immediately when he said the last sentence, Helena snorted in her infamous sneezing style which was a snort but you wouldn't know and would think that she sneezed.
I laughed softly then agreed with Helena who talked about the last sentence that Sebastian made.
‘Somewhat foul? Her behavior is nasty. It's foul.’ I thought to myself.
“I am sorry.” She replied and gave Sebastian a face I suspected had worked magic previously and it did again because Sebastian sighed and said. “It's fine.”
“Thank you.” She replied then turned to me. “Hello Maria, hello Helena. It's nice to meet you too.”
I was surprised for a brief moment but then I caught myself and replied her.
“Your speaking session was good. I enjoyed it. I have a question for you though.” She continued in a surgary sweet voice that made me narrow my eyes at her.
‘She must be up to something.’ I thought to myself.
“Okay, what's your question?” I asked her in a neutral tone.
She leaned forward as if she was about to share some conspiracies. “While you were speaking, I heard some phrases you used that made me wonder if my brother assisted you with your preparation. Tell me please, did he?”
“I prepared it myself and he assisted me with a few corrections. Is there any problem?”
“No!” She clapped her hands in response. “No problem at all. It's so sweet of you, Sebastian. It reminds me of when you would help Svetlana with her presentation.” Then she turned to me and said. “Svetlana is Sebastian's girlfriend, uhhh, I mean ex-girlfriend.”
“Ailene!” Keith exclaimed loudly and Ailene turned to look at him with an innocent expression on her face.
“You're pushing.” Keith simply reprimanded her and she shrugged as if she had done nothing.
“Oh, that's good to know.” I replied in my still neutral voice because I had resolved within me that I would not allow Ailene spoil my mood or my evening.”
I turned towards Sebastian and asked. “Do you like your food? I am really enjoying mine.”
He looked at me with surprise in his face as he replied. He then realized what I had done. I had blocked out Ailene just as I did to his father and my ex family members.
“So Svetlana” Helena spoke up in a sweet voice and I knew immediately that she was up to something on her own.
“What do you do?”
Svetlana forced a smile on her face and I felt sorry for how pinched she looked.
“I am an international model and I work with some of the top brands you aspire to wear.” She replied with a smile.
Helena smiled. “Aspire to wear? I am wearing a dress from one of the top designer brands in the world and you do not recognize it? Maybe the international model means you've travelled to two other countries at most.”
I started laughing hard after Helena's reply but changed it to a cough so that I would not be tagged as rude then gave an excuse. “I'm sorry. The food must have gone in the wrong direction.”
I caught Sebastian staring at me with an amused smile on his face. He knew that my food had gone down just fine.
“Where do you work?” Ailene asked Helena and then turned to me as if she just realized that I was there. “And you too Maria.”
We told her and she nodded her head with a gleam in her eyes.
“Maria, isn't your company the little one that was crashing due to bankruptcy? You started looking for investors?”
I chuckled softly. “ I don't know if you've read the business news recently but my company is not small and far from being bankrupt. If we will look out for investors at all, it will all be for investment purposes.”
Sebastian spoke after I did. “Ailene, If Maria does not know what she is doing with her company as the CEO, there's no way she would have been one of the speakers in this conference.”
“What do you do, Ailene?” Helena asked with a knowing smile on her face.
She looked at Helena quietly and when we thought that she would not answer, she quietly replied. “I work for Bolt.”
“In other words, your brother gave you a job?”
Sebastian knew that Ailene would be hurt because all the darts she had thrown this time had come back to pin her but he decided not to do anything about it because she was wrong.
“I want to leave this place.” She said to Svetlana.
I half raised my hand and said. “Oh please, don't leave on our account. Allow me to leave on yours. Then I turned to her brother and asked. Sebastian, let's go check out the wine stand and sample some of them.*
“Yeah, let's do that.” He replied and stood up just as the same time Ailene angrily stood up and left the table.
Keith and Helena on the other hand, stood up and waved goodbye. I had an idea but eeiuuww I won't think about this.
“What are you thinking about?”
Marco scratched his beard lightly. “Oh! I am thinking about today. I love your speech session, I love your outfit, and most especially how you both chased my sister by talking about yourselves and how you worked for the positions you both attain now.”
THE MARRIAGE PROPOSAL Maria's POV "Will you marry me, Miss Belluci?" The question has me eyeing the man before me as if he had grown two heads over the past half hour he had been in my office. If anyone had told me my perfectly boring morning would take the route it had now I would have called them insane. I had woken up in a good mood, earlier than usual because I wanted to drop my son off at his kindergarten before heading to work for a meeting that would essentially change my company for good not expecting to be interrupted by the last person I had expected to see. Sebastian Bolt. Even his name sounded attractive. He was the CEO of Bolt Industries who had hounded me with proposals to buy my company despite my continuous refusals. He had come to apparently convince me in person but soon changed his proposal. "What happened to buying my company?" I asked stepping away from him. I couldn't help but wonder if he remembered me from that night five years ago when I had
Family Reunion Maria’s POV “You sneaky little bitch!” A feminine voice screeched and I turned barely in time to see a flash of blonde hair launch herself at me. Thankfully, Hilda, one of the members of my team, had been quick enough to pull me out of the way before a set of red painted claws dug into my face. I nodded my thanks to her and turned to see the blonde glaring at me with hate in her eyes. “It’s been a long time, sister.” I told her, brushing a hand over my suit. “What brings you to Amsterdam?” I feigned a cold expression even though deep down I burned with curiosity. I hadn’t seen my half-sister since I had left London five year’s prior after my family had taken her side when I had caught her in bed with my fiancé so it was a marvel she would show up now in Amsterdam glaring daggers at me. “Don’t play coy, Maria.” She spat. “It doesn’t suit you.” Knowing whatever she had to say couldn’t be any good, I turned to look at my staff who were watching us with bate
Dinner Date. Sebastian’s POV “Is there a reason you didn’t inform me you were engaged?” Maria asked. I smiled as I could hear the anger in her voice even through the phone. I had hoped to tell her eventually even though I didn’t see that bit of information as important. “Good day to you too, fiancée.” I greeted knowing it would irk her. “Who told you?” She scoffed. “Your ex fiancée just visited me.” She answered. “Cassandra Kidman.” I hadn’t bothered telling her about the engagement because it had been a match planned by my father and it wasn’t important because nothing had been done, at least on my part. If the Kidman’s had thought I would agree to the match they had truly overestimated their worth because while they did have an impressive reach with their shipping company, in the last few years they had secured such terrible losses under Cassandra’s leadership that they had become a laughing stock in the financial world. I was watching them closely, bidding my time
Meeting The Inlaws Maria’s POV “Wear something elegant.” I read Sebastian’s text again and glared, checking my reflection in the crystal door of the restaurant he had chosen, satisfied my hair hadn’t been mussed on the ride over. I had chosen a sleek red number that Helena had insisted I wore because it was both sexy and elegant despite my protest because it hugged my curves too much. “There is no such thing as too much curves, dear Maria.” The annoying woman had said. “Besides it has been an age since you’ve had some…” “Please don’t use such language around my son.” “Alright but I do hope you sample some of that fine wine tonight.” I shook the conversation out of my head, fixing my face into a neutral mask as I spied Sebastian coming to meet me. He looked painfully handsome in the well-cut black suit he had worn with his beautiful dark hair artfully cut and styled. My breath hitched as he smiled revealing a perfect dentition and laugh lines which had been my weaknes
Family Reunion Maria’s POV Sebastian’s laugh had his father red with rage. He rose from his seat, coming to stand by me with a protective hand on my low back. I was much too angry to give mind to the sparks that traveled up my spine from where he touched me. “You forget, dad, that if I hadn’t taken over Bolt Industries when I did, the company would no doubt have folded under your leadership.” He said with a bored tone. “Even if you were to present that case to the board, they would no doubt agree with me.” “How dare you?!” The man spat rising from his seat. “I raised you when your whore of a mother dropped you on my doorstep. I took you in with no questions asked. I made you what you are today.” “And you have made sure to remind me of it at every turn.” Sebastian scowled. “I have paid my dues in the billions I have made you and if you choose, I will leave you to see just how well you can manage those billions.” If I wasn’t upset and if he were any other man, I would have
I Cannot Marry YouSebastian’s POV It took everything in me not to pick up Maria’s father by his neck and shake him. I wondered how he could treat his own daughter so poorly despite seeing how his words hurt her. I had gotten out of my car to talk about what had happened at dinner and to know why she hadn’t said anything about her relationship to Cassandra. “Is that really what you came all this way to say? After five years?” She had looked so broken when she had said those words that anger had coursed through me for her. I knew how it felt to be berated by family so I understood her pain perfectly. It was honestly for her good she had been disowned by him. Such a selfish bastard didn’t deserve her. The man looked dejected and stood for a long minute after the elevator doors shut. Sebastian it is a pleasure to see you. I was hoping we could…” “Why are you here?” I asked interrupting him. “Excuse me?” “Why are you in my fiancé’s apartment building?” I asked again. He frowned
The Frightening VisitMaria's PoV“Are you sad, momma?” Nathan, my intuitive four year old, asked me this question a second time.I forced a smile on my face and picked him up and kissed all over his face while tickling his body. He loved it when I did that. Then I hugged him tightly and inhaled his baby scent. “Momma is happy, munchkin and momma loves you a lot.”“I ‘ove you too, momma.” He mumbled on my chest with his baby voice.“Momma needs to rest now, baby. You should go play with your toys in the toy room and I will join you when I am done resting, yeah? We'll build a gigantic house this time around.”“Yeah!” He pumped his little chubby hands in the air excitedly and I couldn't help but smile with delight. This is one part of my life that is very much intact and I cherish this part with everything in me.“Emily will take you now, darling. See you later.” I kissed his chubby cheeks and handed him over to his nanny who came in and carried him to his toy room just as Helena came b
Anticipating The StormMaria's POV“Let him in.” I told Helena then rushed to my room to wash my face again, comb my hair out then change from my skimpy gown to a cashmere loungewear set. After checking my appearance in the mirror to be certain that I looked presentable, I headed to the living room where Helena engaged in casual conversation with Sebastian. He stood up immediately I entered and gave me a slow once over, momentarily forgetting that Helena stood close to him.Helena cleared her throat loudly and said “I'll leave you two to talk.” then she exited. We stared at each other quietly for a while but I didn't bother to initiate any conversation not because I was being proud but I honestly didn't know what to say at that point, after the embarrassing stunt I pulled.“I received your message.” Sebastian finally broke the silence.“I know.” was all I could reply.“What changed?” He asked softly.“Look, it was just a momentary thing. I was angry and irritated and for a brief momen

Sweet Then SourMaria's POV It was the day of the conference and I would soon be called up to speak. My nerves were in shambles and Helena was squeezing my hands from time to time. I craned my neck and looked towards the west wing section of the hall and the door for the umpteenth time. “He'll be here soon. He has to be. Sebastian has never missed a day in this conference and he won’t start now, darling.” Helena whispered and I didn’t bother arguing with her that I wasn’t looking for Sebastian. After the intimate moment we had, he still came around and helped me practise for my speaking section and each time he did that, it was as if a higher level of confidence was unlocked in me. “Let’s welcome on stage for the third speaking session, Miss Maria Belluci.” I heard the host announce my name and the sound of applause that accompanied the announcement. “You’ve got this, baby girl.” Helena whispered fiercely and kissed my hand. As I walked to the stage, I became increasi
The Conference IISebastian's POV I left Keith's penthouse apartment and realized that Maria would be alone in her apartment. The urge to go and see her was strong but then there was also the fact that she had been distant since the encounter with my sister, Ailene. I didn't blame her though, because I would do the same if I had met Ailene as Maria. Giving up the idea, I turned to go to my room but the urge to see her was so strong, I found myself walking towards her door. “Seriously Lena, what do you want this time? More condoms?” I heard her shout and laughed because I couldn't wait to see her face when she found out that it wasn't Lena but me. But when she opened the door, I was the one who became speechless when I saw her outfit. She wore a silk camisole and a matching pair of small silk shorts. They were the smallest pair of clothing I had seen on her and I was going crazy already. I tried to get my acts together so I cleared my throat. “I uhh, I wanted to come
The Conference Maria's POV After the flopped dinner event with Sebastian and his sister, I buried myself deep inside work and life as Nathan's mother to avoid him and the troubles that came with him. Whenever he called I was either busy with work or Nathan hence there was no time to have lengthy conversations or even see him. Two weeks later, I was invited to be a guest speaker in one of the biggest conferences that was held in the legal sphere in collaboration with the business sphere. “Man! I am so excited about this conference. I am so excited to be in Paris again.” Helena shouted as we exited our plane to head to the SUV that would take us to our suite. I had guest speaker privileges and Helena was enjoying every single moment. “I am nervous, man.” I stated plainly. “Oh, come off it. You will do fine.” She waved me off, more interested in the glitz that came with being a speaker at the conference. “The crowd.” I stated and Helena turned. “You do realize that Se
Aftermaths Of DinnerSebastian's PoV “What just happened?” I asked no one in particular as soon as Maria and Helena entered the elevator and left. I really didn't understand what happened in the space of forty minutes. One minute I was admiring the exotic beauty that Maria was and the next minute she was leaving indicating that she had lost interest while my sister sat there with a satisfied glow on her face. “Someone tell me what the hell just happened.” I demanded hotly in a loud voice which made Ailene jump in surprise. “What happened, Ailene? What was all that about?” Keith asked my sister with a subtly accusatory tone. “What happened where? Why are you asking me? Why don't you ask the person who walked away in the middle of dinner? A phone call should clarify details.” “Shut the hell up, Ailene. Don't make me angry.” I growled in a low voice and she gasped. “What is going on, Seb? You've…you've never talked to me this way before.” “That's because you've never do
Meeting AileneMaria's POV “Why exactly am I attending this dinner with you?” Helena grumbled behind me as we wore the pointy toe stilettos that we bought from the fashion shop a few days ago. “You will attend the dinner with me because I get to meet another Bolt family member. Look at it as a uhh support system kinda thing.” “Support system kinda thing? Since when do you need that level of support Maria Bellucci?” “Since the craziness that is called the Kidman family and the craziness that is Sebastian's father. You saw their actions recently, right?” “Yeah, you have a point. Which family member are we meeting this time around? His mother?” “Nope! His younger sister.” “Okay, younger sisters do not bring trouble.” Helena replied with enthusiasm then her face fell as she remembered something or someone. “Well, Maria. There's your younger sister.” “You better watch your mouth, missy. She's no sister of mine.” I replied with a fierce tone and Helena raised her hand in sur
Plans And Counterplans Mr. Bolt PoV I waited until Sebastian left then picked up my phone and called Max Kidman. “Max, we have a problem. Meet me at the club now. Also, come along with your daughter, Cassandra. I’d like to make a request of her and also ask her some questions concerning her last meeting with my son.” The situation seemed to be getting out of hand and if I don't curb it now then I have a lot to lose. In fact, I will go down with the Kidmans because I know that Max will surely take his pound of flesh. Cassandra's wedding to Sebastian was all that Max wanted to keep him quiet because if he had Sebastian as a son-in-law then there was no way he would go down and I won't have to go down with him. I don't want to go down so I have to do everything humanly possible to ensure that Sebastian married the Kidman girl. If I look at it logically then I would agree that Sebastian was going after the right Kidman daughter. Maria was smart, bright and doing well with h
Kindling FlamesSebastian's PoV “What do you mean by what happened?” I asked Maria, admiring how gorgeous she looked even though she was obviously angry. She tsked and fixed hot gazes on me. “What happened between you and Cassandra? How and why exactly are you two even together in one picture? Where was the location in the picture? I need details. I can't just wake up and get surprises from the news. It shouldn't be my norm. I need details so I know what I am possibly facing soon.” “Maria, please take a seat. I will share every detail soon.” “Okay.” She simply replied then sat down and crossed her arms in front of her and I clamped my hands to prevent myself from smiling even though I was very angry. I was angry at myself for not flowing with my instincts because I knew immediately Cassandra showed up uninvited that something fishy was going on but I didn't act on it. I was also angry at Cassandra, the Kidmans and even my father for all these tantrums and naughty games and
News FlashMaria's PoV I woke up thinking about Maria's statement about me and Sebastian, and even as I got ready for work, the statement still won't leave my head. “What did she mean by oh Maria you are so wrong about you and Sebastian?” I asked myself as I styled my hair. I heard a knock on my door and turned to see Nathan followed closely by Emily. “Who's there at my door?” I asked dramatically then gasped and half shouted. “Oh look! It's my son! And he’s sooo ready for school.” Nathan laughed and raced towards my ready arms. I grabbed him and started tickling his chubby baby body until he raced his hands and started shouting amidst laughter. “I surrender! I surrender!” Laughing hard as well, I placed him down and planted many kisses on his face. He looked at me and said, “When I grow up, mommy, I will tickle you many many times.” “Well, that's when you grow up but till then I will….” I crouched low and started for him but he screamed and raced out of my room amidst
