------ Mira ------
" Mira dear, it's late, you should come down for dinner. " I was surprised to see Josesph's nanny in my room later on. She was meant to be at home resting, right?
“ Nanny, you are here? ” I didn't bother hiding the surprise in my tone. “ I am, Baby. ” she gave me one of her best smiles.
I wrapped my arms around her the moment she got close enough. “ I miss you, Na. ” Words couldn't explain how much I really do. It's been almost two weeks, yet it seemed like forever. “ I miss you, Baby. ” she patted my hair as she'd always done since I was a preteen.
We broke the hug later on and I didn't realize I'd got tears in my eyes until she reached out and wiped them off with her fingers. “ Don't cry, Baby… ” she held my hands in hers and gave me a comforting smile.
“ Do you want to talk about it? ” I stared at her with a raised eyebrow.
“ Nothing can be hidden from the eyes of a mother, Miranda. ” She said my name for the very first time in a while. I'd being super used to being called Baby by her that I didn't know how beautiful my full name sounded on her lips. It's beautiful not only because of her unique accent, but because hearing her call out my name reminded me of my mother, Lydia Edison.
I tried not to reveal my emotions when a memory of my childhood flashed right before me, but seeing the look of understanding on Nanny's face. I realized how useless hiding what I felt was.
If one thing, Nanny was the first thing closest to a mother that I've got and I love her so much, I believe the feeling is mutual though as she loved me lotts too.
“ Jose and I had a misunderstanding more than a week ago…. ” I rolled off, not knowing how to continue.
The look of understanding on her face, reminded me that I don't have to worse it. “ We'll talk about it after dinner, Kay? ” She gave me a comforting pat on my shoulders. “ Yeah. ”
“ Let's head down for a nice dinner, shall we? ”
“ Yeah. ” I stood up taking her outstreched arm.
I wasn't surprised to see Joseph at his usual spot on the dinning table when we got there. He didn't even bother looking up from his food when we arrived.
Pulling out a chair, I sat at the edge of the table as I slowly uncovered my dinner. A grin made it to my face as I realized what it was; Lasagna
with tomato salad.I could already feel myself salivating simply staring at the food in front of me. “ Thanks, Na. ”
“ You welcome. ” Nanny replied as she filled with my glass with orange juice which was my all time favorite drink.
“ Bon Appetite. ” I grinned at her accent. “ Merci. ” The dinning room was silent as we simply focused on devouring our food. I stole some quick glances at Joseph occasionally and every time I did. His head was down, eating his food slowly. Only once did our eyes meet and I froze.
I averted my gaze, soon afterwards not happy with the emotion I saw in his eyes — Disappointment mixed with sadness.
“ When did we get here? ” I wondered yet again, trying not to sigh loudly.
After dinner, Nanny and I did the dishes before she invited me over to her room.
I followed her gladly, already feeling ecstatic about pouring out my heart out. Though I'd always being a secretiveperson, but when it came to Nanny. I simply remove my guard.
We entered the room and I was slowly adjusting to the darkness
in it when the light came on.The room was simple and had a unique vibe to it, there were no litters as everything was well arranged to it's place.
We sat on the bed cross-legged not like a mother and daughter, but rather like two best friends super ready to have a beautiful conversation.
“ So what led to the misunderstanding? ” Her question wasn't rushed so I didn't feel rushed to answer and took my time to do so. “ Someone uploaded some pictures of Joseph and Vera on a date on the social media and hash tagged the school. ”
“ Okay. ” Though she was quiet, her gaze were screaming for me to continue.
“ As the school president, Joseph and his assistant were the only ones that had the permission to do so. And since he claimed he wasn't at fault. The blaim was put on me as they'd claimed I'm the closest person to him. ”
“ Really? ” I heard her sigh and I honestly wondered what she was thinking. “ Vera is also close to him, isn't she? Why then wasn't she a suspect too? ”
“ Well, she is a victim, so — ” I trailed off, feeling too tired to continue.
Silence reigned between us before Nanny finally spoke up after a long while. “ You and Joseph really need to have a deep conversation about this. ”
I wasn't too surprised by her answer as I was kind of expecting it. “ I know, Na. But how can I do so when he practically ignores my existence? ”
“ You can at least try. ” She tucked a tendril of my hair behind my ear lovingly. “ I believe in you, Miranda. ” Her smile plus her sincere words, warmed my heart.
“ I will. Thanks. ”
“ My pleasure. ” I left the room feeling a bit relaxed and yet anxious at the same time.
How was I going to explain myself to Joseph when he won't even acknowledge my presence? This were my thoughts as I took the stairs up to Joseph's room.
I stood in front of his door, wondering if I'd made a wrong decision coming up her.
I was about changing my mind when the door opened and I froze. I didn't miss the surprise in his eyes on seeing me. “ We need to talk. ”
He squinted his eyes at me. “ Do we really need to? ” the coldness on his voice caused me to shiver.
“ Yeah. ” Seeing the disinterest in his eyes, I sighed. “ Why does it have to be so hard? ”
“ For ten minutes, Please? ” His gaze softened a bit and he opened the door wider for me to get in.
I entered in carefully as he shut the door behind me.
The room shone with blues as it has always been. Nothing had changed.
It's been barely two weeks since I've been here, yet it feels like forever.
> * Make every second count. * ------ Mira ------ As soon as we entered his room, Joseph sat on his bed and began pulling off his sandals, while completely ignoring my presence. I sat on the sofa in the room and stared at the room. Nothing has changed, his room still had the usual style and vibe, pictures of his artworks hang all over the room, one of them caught my attention.A painting of me? I stood up to the wall to confirm what I was seeing. It was when I touched it, did I realize it was real. I remember jokingly telling him once, that I'd love for him to paint me, I never would have thought that he really did. But why hadn't he shown me this? I turned to face him only to find him staring at me, but he averted his gaze the second our eyes met. I walked back to his bedside and crouched in front of him, Holding his hands in mine, I made sure we maintained eye contact. “ Jose, do you really think, I would have done that to you? ”He didn't say anything for a while, and when
>* Follow and focus on your own path regardless of others opinions. *****------ Mira ------I kept tossing and turning as sleep evaded me. My mind was hyper active as I kept wondering what Vera had said to Joseph that made him act like he did. He mentioned IP address, what's that really about? I wish I had my phone with me, then I would have checked the school group chat. Yet, at the back of my mind, I was thankful I didn't bring it along earlier today as I would have lost it. As a result of my lack of sleep, I ended up with huge eye bags, and when morning came, I was feeling more exhausted than I'd felt earlier. I freshened up and went downstairs after doing the laundry. I met Nanny Jenny on my way out. As it was still very early, breakfast hasn't been made as she'd just woken up herself.“ Good morning, Nanny Jenny! ” I embraced her desperately, in a quest to draw strength from her. “ Morning, Hon. How are you? ” she stared closely at me after we broke up. I felt naked
>* There's no such thing as failure until you fail to learn a lesson. ****----- Mira ------The day I met Joseph, is one I'll never forget. We've been in the same school for about a year and despite being the student's president, I never knew him since we weren't classmates and I was an introvert, who barely related with others. Due to all of this, I never knew him until that day.It was during break time on that particular day, I was in class pretending to study, though I wasn't able to as the pain in my stomach was becoming too much to bear. I’d been having the pain for about a month now, but it never got this intense. As time went on, I felt my consciousness begin to slip from me and my vision became blurry. It was at that moment, I heard a voice, close yet so distant calling out to me. “ Are you okay? ” The voice was like the sweetest music to my ears and for several seconds, I was hypnotized by it. “ You okay? ” The question came again and this time, I was about to an
> * Nothing worthwhile in life comes easy. * **** ------ Mira ----- Taking a taxi from Joseph's street, I soon arrived at the orphanage. After paying for the fare, I stood for some minutes in front of the big building, recalling the first time I was brought there. “ Precious Kids. ” I remember staring at those words feeling broken and disheartened. As someone who was raised in a rich home with loving parents. I'd never thought that a day would come when I'll have to end up in a substandard hotel. Even as a young child, the realization that I had just moved from grace to grass, from privileged to underprivileged had hit me greatly. It would have been better if I hadn't tasted wealth than to end up this way. But well, I'd accepted my destiny after a really long time, haven't I? The noise in the building didn't surprise me as I navigated my way to my room. The girls were chatting as always. I was probably the only one who didn't have anyone to talk to there as they see me a
> * Everybody has a dream, but not everyone is willing to put in the hard work and discipline required to achieve their dreams. * **** ----- Joseph ----- It's always said, the betrayal of a friend hurts more than a stranger's as you are never prepared for it. To think my lifelong friendship with Miranda all came down to this moment that I finally saw her true colors. Over the past few days I've been in doubt, not wanting to believe she's really guilty. But now, seeing the evidence right in front of my eyes, it hurts. Despite the fact that I've got all this evidence, somewhere deep in my heart, I still believe Mira is innocent, but the question in my mind is how can she be? Recalling the pain and longing in her eyes, when I’d thrown her out earlier made my heart ache. I desperately want to believe she's innocent, but how can I? It would have been easy to say she's innocent, if she hadn't acted out of jealousy once. I desperately want to go to her and tell her I'm s

Though we've been in no contact for almost three weeks, it still feels different, especially after our last encounter. The memory of how he'd thrown me out of his room the other day still haunts me, though I knew he’d only done that because he was pissed. Yet, it didn't stop it from hurting. “ How could he? ” As much as I try to make excuses for him, it still doesn't change the fact that he'd hurt me. I've always heard that being sensitive and understanding is a bad thing, I'd never known how true that was until now. On one hand, I'm very well aware of how hurt he is by what happened, but yet it still doesn't give him the right to treat me the way he did. It doesn't. My alarm clock went off indicating the end of my ten minute break. I went back to my desk and plopped my butt on my study chair, as I opened my bi

I'd thought my decision had been set and unchangeable until the conversation I had with Nanny. “ Am I really blinded by Vera's words, that I'm failing to see the truth? ” “ Am I paying more attention to logic than to my heart? ” ‘ Always listen to your heart, Jose. ’ Mira's words from two years ago rang in my mind, making me wonder if I'm really doing that. Am I really not listening to my heart? Is that why I've been way too confused? “ What should I do, Lord? ” I stared at the painting of Mira, I had hung on the wall with mixed thoughts. I desperately wanted to believe that Mira's innocent and Nanny's right. But how can I do that, when all odds are against her? Especially now that believing in her will mean betraying my girlfriend. “ I'll never hurt you, Jose. You know
> * If you live each day as if it were your last, then one day you most certainly will be right. * *** —Joseph — I arrived at the canteen in no time and found it crowded as usual - it was filled up with my school mates; chatting, gisting, laughing and eating. I covered my hair and half of my face with a hoodie, trying hard to go on unnoticed but failed. “ Isn't that Joseph Winfrey? ” I heard a girl say and all eyes Immediately turned on me. “ Yes, it's him. ” “ What do you think he's doing here? ” “ What do you think? ” “ Haven't you seen how depressed Vera Lynn had been ever since he was suspended. ” “ Oh… I wouldn't be surprised if he came here to see her. ” “ What do you expect? ” Ignoring the chatters around me, I walked into the canteen in search of Vera and soon found her at our usual spot. Vera Lynn, she lived up to the beauty of her name as she's an epitome of beauty. With straight brownish black long hair, well blossomed pink lips
Epilogue.“ The end of a thing is better than its beginning. ”****—- Miranda —-It's said that friendship is the backbone of every relationship, I can't help but agree more at this point. I stared into the ever beautiful eyes of my groom and the love and adoration in it couldn't be denied. It's been fifty years of friendship and thirty eight years of marriage, yet it feels like a lifetime. Is this really how beautiful love is?I've always heard about love being beautiful from my parents and now? I couldn't help agreeing more. Years ago, I had questioned why some things happened to me which weren't meant to. I know better now that God has been in my story all along. Slowly crafting and editing out unimportant details, to create a wonderful masterpiece. And now? After so many years and me being surrounded by my friends, family, kids and grandchildren, I can only say. God is good and his timings are always perfect. “ Didn't I say we'll celebrate fifty years of friendship? ” I s
“ Smile because your world brightens up when you do. ” *** —- Miranda —-“ Mom… ” It felt like my heart got caught in my throat at the sight of my daughter in white.I couldn't form a word as emotions rushed through me, I could see flashes of our moments together. The first time I'd held her, the first time she'd said Mom. Her first day at school, the day she'd finally opened up to me about her crush. I would never forget how long the conversation was that day on a small picnic by the lake. The blush on her cheeks and the glow in her eyes made me realize just how smitten my daughter was. “ I love him, Mom. ” I would never forget so soon how beautiful the words sounded when they echoed in the blue sky. And now? The same girl I had held as a baby and vowed to love and protect was now getting married to the love of her life. “ Babe. ” I couldn't control the tears that fell out of my eyes, as I stared at my daughter in the most beautiful dress I've seen. I've always admired supe
“ Having a guy best friend who truly loves and cares about you is indeed super priceless. ” *** “ Dad. ” “ Yes, Baby girl? ” He stared his little sweet sixteen who was looking more and more like her mom on a daily basis. “ Do you know I have a crush on someone? ” Her words made him pause from swinging the swing they were currently on. He'd made it a routine to spend quality time with both his children every weekend so he could get to know them and their personalities better. Though lately, he'd been spending more time with his daughter as it seemed the latter needs his time and attention most.“ Oh, really? Who's the lucky guy? ” He grinned, on seeing the red blush on her cheeks.“ He's Noel. ” She replied in a chicken-like manner. “ And he is? ” “ My Best Friend. ” “ Oh wow. ” Joseph instantly felt history about to repeat itself as he stared at his daughter.“ Does he know about it? ” He inquired softly, taking her hands in his. “ No… I don't think he sees me that way thoug
“ Pain is temporary. ”***“ I wish we can always choose the one we fall in love with. Perhaps it wouldn't be a big deal now that I'm in this case. I am Ava Smith and this is my story. A year ago, I fell in love with a young man who was 20 at the time of our meeting. He wasn't the most beautiful man I've ever come across but in my heart, he'll always be the best definition of beauty. Black beauty is what I'll call him. His smile was ever beautiful and never ceased to warm my heart. His voice was like the sound of many waters and the sound of his laughter was like a waterfall. I fell for this innocence, his honesty and thoughtfulness.I was attracted to him by his love for dancing and acting. I've never met someone as talented as him. Matthew was his name and I must say, his name did great justice to his personality, but I would have preferred for him to be named Daniel. I loved him in a way, I've never loved anyone before. When asked what I love about him, I get confused a
“ Be with someone who is afraid to lose you. ”*** “ How do you feel, Jose. ” Joseph turned to face his beautiful wife, who looked ever stunning at thirty. Perhaps it's true that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, cos even after so many years he still found her as stunning as she'd always been. “ You've asked that question three times already. ” He smiled seeing her pout. “ But it's okay, I get it. ” He turned to face her. “ It's Vera's wedding, I know. ” He pulled her to a seat on the bed beside him as he cupped her face. “ I'd once been infatuated with her, and couldn't imagine a life without her once. ” He paused to search her eyes. “ But that's in the post now, you know. I love you and you are my forever so you don't have to worry about me, Kay? ” “ Um… ” “ Besides, you look unusually beautiful today. ” He tucked her hair behind her face, as she blushed. “ Should we roll on the sheets for a few minutes before we leave? ” “ In your dreams. ” She stood up in an attemp
“ I cry when you cry. ”*** Five years later,Miranda opened the door to her daughter's room and sighed helplessly when she didn't find her there. She matched towards her son's and there she met them spooned together on the bed. “ Gosh, how many times do I have to tell them not to sleep together. ” She muttered under her breath. She'd thought the doctor had been over exaggerating when she said they'll be literally inseparable. Now? She figured Angelina was more than right. They couldn't even stay a moment without each other. “ Nuel, Nuella. ” She patted them lovingly and slowly but steadily she was welcomed by two deep blue eyes. Ones she'd come to fall in love with. “ Mom… ” Nuella was the first to react as she detached herself from her brother's embrace and went into her mother's arms. “ Good morning, Hon. ” She pecked her cheeks and straightened her short hair which was tied in two messy buns. “ Morning, Mom. ” She rubbed her head on Miranda's chest as she'd always done
“ Forgiveness sets you free. ”*** “ Can I take a seat? ” The duo stared at each other before nodding. “ I know you guys have a million and one questions to ask me. ” She smiled, “ That's not unexpected, right? Since I disappeared months ago and suddenly reappeared. ” The duo nodded. “ Well, I was imprisoned for three months due to my involvement in a crime relating to Miranda. ” “ What crime? ” Evie inquired, staring at the two.“ I planned to have her miscarry, but my plan failed as always. ” Her tone was solemn. “ Um… ” Evelyn sighed, realizing her Bestie had forgiven her already. So what right does she have to overreact?“ I heard God for the very first time in the police’s van. ”“ God? ” They were left completely stunned by her words.“ As you both know, I've always been an atheist. But for the first time, I heard the deity which you and Joseph had always spoken about. Prior to that, I've always believed he was nothing but a figment of your imaginations. But the single enc
“ Hard Work sets the difference between great and average. ”***“ You are pregnant, Bestie? ” The latter blushed heavily at the question directed to her.“ Yeah. ” She replied shyly.“ But why didn't you tell me? ” Miranda felt happy, yet a little disappointed at that. Best friends are meant to tell each other everything, right? So why hide that important detail from her?“ I just found out, okay? ” Evie replied defensively, not totally comfortable under her accusing gaze.“ Okay. ” Miranda nodded with a tight smile. ***Later in their car. “ You've been silent, Honey. ” He mused, pulling her into his arms. He'd never totally understand how quickly her mood changes. Thankfully he'd read a lot on post childbirth depression and understood that her feelings and reactions are absolutely normal. Though not totally normal to him as he craves for his wife to be completely alright. “ I feel Evie should have told me about her pregnancy earlier. ” Joseph sighed hearing her words. He'd nev
“ God never comes too late, he comes right on time. ”*** The day seemed to go slowly until the middle aged bride was handed a mirror. “ Oh my. ” Hannah couldn't stop the gasp that escaped her lips at her reflection in the mirror. For some reason, she'd always believed she'd never be as beautiful as she was at her previous wedding ceremony. But who knew. Her short almond colored hair was beautifully styled on her head, her makeup and mascara was perfect further adding to her stunning look. “ You make a beautiful bride, Nanny. ” She turned to hear the exact words she'd said at the latter’s wedding. “ Thank you. ”“ I'm super glad I got to witness your happy day, Mom. ” Those simple words made her emotional. She'd always believed she would never experience the joy and gladness this day brings. After her husband left her. She'd literally lost all hope in finding love again. She believed she can never be happy again as she'll never find a man better than Joshua. But who knew.“ Th
