Time had never moved so slowly for Ruby. Each second seemed to pass more leisurely, giving her longer moments to absorb her surroundings.
Her eyes were still darkened, and Ed's hand was still covering them, but Ruby didn't feel blind at all. Her other senses took over, providing intense stimulation and heightening every tickle in her stomach, as well as every nerve ending throughout her body.
When he felt her pull away, Ed cupped and held Ruby's head. He knew she wasn’t avoiding him. Ruby wasn't scared, just weak.
Ed wouldn't let her pull away. However, he couldn't resist the allure of her delicate lips. Ed wanted every inch of her, and every response from Ruby was like a fire igniting his body. Ruby didn’t reciprocate properly, but instinctively, her lips parted, inviting Ed to explore.
Ed kissed those soft, innocent lips, brushing and playfully biting the corners. He inhaled deeply, taking in the warm pheromones she exuded.
Ruby felt
“I don’t want to be cruel, but it seems impossible. She doesn’t appear to love you.” Javier gave his honest opinion, smiling apologetically.“If she’s really scared of you, I think it’s unlikely she likes you,” Javier emphasized.Ed glanced briefly. The affirmation stung a little, but he knew Javier was just being honest. "Well, I offered to leave, but she said she'd stay right away. And she didn’t reject me again.”Javier frowned, trying to understand the context. “Oh, you slept together again.” Javier chuckled, amusingly patting his brother's thigh.“Is that why you’re talking about love?” Javier laughed again.“Stop!” Ed hissed. The mocking laughter, regardless of its appearance, annoyed Ed.“Hermano…” (Brother)Javier stifled his laughter and put down his cup. No longer mocking. “I think you already know t
“Gone? What do you mean? Dead?” When Otiz delivered the unpleasant news about Carlos, Ed had just sat down.“No, but someone helped him escape.”Ed immediately frowned. “You’ve been disappointing me a lot lately. Are you sure you still want to live?”“Forgive me, Don Rosas!” Otiz bowed. He didn’t dare lift his head. He didn't defend himself, knowing his mistake was grave.“How could this happen?” Ed asked.“The doctor ordered another CT scan because Carlos had been complaining of a headache since last night—they were worried about a fracture besides the jaw. There were people following him during the CT scan, but he didn’t return. It seems someone was waiting in that room and helped him escape through the window.”Otiz explained it as thoroughly as possible. Very honestly, despite the severe consequences.“Your skills seem to have rus
"What's up?" Lori inquired, puzzled by Ruby's sudden stop."Nothing. Come on, let's just go to the beach." Ruby pushed Lori out through the side gate, and Lori's suspicion vanished.Ruby had never been to the beach near that house, so she just followed Lori, who kept talking about clothes. But Ruby wasn't listening at all because she was busy thinking about what Lori had just mentioned."Oh, I want to ask about this," Lori said. "While I remember. Where did you get it?"Lori turned and held up her phone, showing a photo from social media. Ruby nearly choked in shock. She felt like she was in a bad horror movie, staring at someone who should be her but knew it wasn't.The photo showed a woman who looked almost exactly like herself. The real Lizeth Ramos. The hair, eyes, and overall appearance were all the same. The hair was the only slight difference. Slightly curly, but the same length. But Ruby had never worn a dress like that. The ki
Esli read the message and frowned. It was from Ruby. It wasn’t like her to send a message first. The message asked him to call her.“How bold. Just like her mother,” he muttered. Esli pressed the call button. “What do you want?”“Tell Liz to stop posting photos!” Ruby immediately yelled in a panic.“What are you talking about?” Esli didn’t understand.“Photos! Liz is posting photos from who knows where on social media. Ed will see them! He’ll start wondering how I can be in two places at once.”“Damn it!” Esli cursed. He grabbed his laptop and opened social media—something he had never done before and never thought of doing.“You need to tell Liz to delete everything,” Ruby repeated.Esli groaned. It was already hard enough managing Liz. But Ruby was right; Esli had seen Liz’s posts.“Do your job properly and
Ruby tightened the knot at the bottom of her shirt, ensuring that the bikini underneath wasn't visible and the fabric covering her waist didn't slip.It was difficult because Ruby was running until she finally arrived in front of Javier's room. She took a deep breath and knocked on Javier's door as hard as she could.“Javier! Help me!” Ruby shouted as panickedly as possible, and of course, the door immediately opened.“Liz? What's wrong?” Javier was instantly panicked, too.“It's Lori! She's drowning. I pulled her out, but she's not breathing!” Ruby pointed towards the sea.“Where?” Javier ran out of light speed.“Over there!” Ruby pointed to a body in the distance, lying still on the sand near the waves.Javier immediately ran down the beach, now nearly dark, with Ruby behind him.Javier's chapel was separate from the house but still shared the same coastline.
“You…”Ruby stammered, but before she could pull away, someone suddenly yanked her hair.“AGHH!” Ruby screamed as her body was dragged away from Pedro.“You whore! We just got here, and you're already throwing yourself at him?!” Mia shouted as she continued to pull Ruby away from Pedro. Ruby's eyes welled up with pain from her scalp.“Mia… enough, Mia… Stop…” Pedro pleaded, trying to release Mia's grip on Ruby's hair.“How dare you flirt with him when I'm right here? You really have no shame!” Mia swung her hand to slap her, but Ruby blocked it with a grimace.“I wasn’t flirting! I didn’t even see him!” Ruby pulled Mia's hand, which was still gripping her hair, closer.“Nonsense! You’ve intended to seduce him from the start, haven’t you? You wouldn’t keep staring at Pedro if you didn’t have bad intentions!” Mia tried to attack again.“Staring at what?!” Ruby dodged and swatted Mia's hand away. She couldn't understand how Mia co
"The less pain you feel, the more stable your mental state becomes. You don’t need to rely on medication anymore.”The psychologist standing in front of him smiled and nodded with a satisfied expression. This was the second time in a week he had met with his client, and there had already been significant improvement.“If the pain suddenly returns, please don’t take medication right away. Try to calm yourself first, so you won’t be at risk of becoming addicted to the medication. Your body will naturally crave higher doses if you’re not careful.”Ed just nodded. Yesterday, when the doctor advised him to consult with a psychologist or psychiatrist, Ed was skeptical, and even now he remains skeptical.Of course, Ed knew that the psychologist wasn't the reason for his improvement, but he would continue the therapy sessions since he had already paid for at least ten more sessions.“One more thing: please ma
"There’s nothing." Ruby denied it, covering the part of her head that hurt."What do you mean? Nothing? I'm not blind."Ed really wanted to insist on checking her head again, but Ruby had already moved away. Ed hated seeing Ruby distance herself. It reminded him of her fear of him."Okay, I won't touch it. But tell me what happened." Ed softened his insistence, but Ruby still shook her head. Ruby's primary defense strategy was to steer clear on a consistent basis. To some extent, Ruby was quite affected by Mia's curses. Given her position, she is currently weaker than Mia, the original Rosas family member. No matter how rotten, Ed didn’t seem to oppose Mia. Pedro's foul mouth, fully supported by Mia, was the problem.Ruby wasn’t sure if telling Ed was the solution. Yesterday, Ed had asked her to dress more modestly, even buying new clothes to avoid 'disturbing' Pedro's view. Ed asked her to adjust, and the earlier issue partly fel
“Such chaos,” Liz lamented as she watched the crowd of rowdy children, who had become the main guests at her wedding.“Yeah, I didn’t expect it to get this wild either.” Ruby sat beside her, watching AJ hand out chocolate-covered strawberries to the other kids.He wasn’t alone—Claud, Val's second child, was helping him. They eventually grew close, even though their conversations were sometimes limited because Claud was more fluent in Italian than English. Still, they got along well enough.“How did it all start?” Ed frowned.“I don’t know.” Ruby was also unsure.“Maybe I shouldn’t have agreed when AJ asked.” Liz deeply regretted it.Somehow, AJ had convinced Liz to provide a chocolate fountain for her wedding, and it had become the source of chaos. The younger children were enjoying it, but soon chocolate stains appeared on the white tablecloths, as wel
"Do I have to? I already checked that document yesterday. Can’t you do it instead?" When Ed saw another email from Otiz, he complained. It was a financial report. Since Matteo had spread his investments in every direction—across more or less thirty companies—the financial reports Otiz received came from all directions, across different types of businesses. Ed hadn't anticipated this.Being an investor wasn’t as straightforward as it seemed. He still had to work.“You’re the one who has to check it. I’m just the middleman,” Otiz firmly refused. He could refuse because the request was made over the phone. Perhaps if they were face-to-face, Otiz would be more compliant. He was no longer blindly following Ed's orders, carefully sorting out what should and should not be done. He was only responsible for delivering financial reports, not reviewing them.Ed grumbled. He was quite used to reviewing company pa
"‘What do you want to show me?’ As she approached Ed, Ruby inquired. She left AJ's side; he was busy reading a story to his two younger siblings. Elena and Elisa sat quietly, either really listening or getting sleepy. It was already time for their afternoon nap."Read this," Ed shifted, making room for Ruby to sit beside him, and handed her a phone displaying an article in Spanish. Less than two hours had passed since the publication of this hot news story.Ruby didn’t pay attention to that, though, because she was immediately stunned by the headline.‘DEA ARRESTS MAJOR MEXICAN CARTEL AND EXPOSES BILLION-DOLLAR BUSINESS NETWORK’"What... you...?" Ruby turned pale and panicked, of course."Read it to the end," Ed said, pointing to the rest of the text that she had not yet seen.Ruby read quickly and frowned. There was no mention of Ed or Rosas anywhere. Only Reyes. Marco Reyes. He was the story's
Two black vans speed down a deserted road. It was already nighttime, and they were the only ones there. The end of the road was in sight—a black iron gate.“Ram it!”A shout rang out, and the vans didn’t slow down. The passengers inside, all dressed in black, held on tight as a deafening crash echoed. The gate fell, bent, but opened. The two vans barged through and stopped right in front of the brightly lit house.“Get in and kill everyone!”Another shout, and the people inside the vans scrambled out, storming into the beachside house. Some were carrying firearms; others were wielding clubs. However, as they entered, everyone froze. No one came to greet them. The house was supposed to be full of guards, which was why they had come in numbers—ready for a confrontation. In reality, what greeted them was silence. Not a single person appeared, even though the house was brightly lit.“
"AJ, don't make Abuela tired!" Ruby reprimanded AJ for running away with something, while Mia pursued him.But it was impossible to make AJ stop, especially since his younger siblings were laughing joyfully at his antics. Elisa and Elena had just learned to walk, and they happily followed him around.AJ couldn't stop when he had such an audience. Mia seemed to be scolding him, but everyone knew Mia could never really be upset at AJ.Ruby had to step in, followed by Ed to watch over Elisa and Elena. Although falling on the sand wouldn't hurt, the beach had sharp rocks that could scrape them."Mommy! They should chase me! Don't pick them up!" AJ didn’t want his little sisters to be carried away and stop the fun."Alright," Ruby said, intending to supervise them closely."How about we take a vacation?" Ed abruptly proposed the idea, having just finished reading a message on his phone."Hm?" Ruby was surprised. There had been no suc
"Here."Ed gave Otiz a handkerchief to wipe away his tears. If it had been just a few, he would have let Otiz cry—and wiped the tears with the sleeve of his jacket. The problem was that Otiz couldn’t stop crying. He had already been emotional when Ed stood beside him at the altar, and it got worse when he saw Lori walking down the aisle, escorted by flowers. It was all too beautiful and dazzling for his eyes.“Sorry,” Otiz stammered, wiping the remaining tears from his face.“What are you apologizing for? At a wedding, shedding tears is not considered inappropriate. You're just too happy. No one will blame you.” Ed gently patted Otiz’s shoulder and then turned his gaze forward.Of course, Lori was the focus of the event. Her choice of dress was perfect, blending seamlessly with the entire garden decor. Flowers, ribbons, music, and all the other elements were carefully and precisely chosen—now showcasi
Ed tapped his finger on the glass in his hand. His eyes were fixed on a single point—Marco Reyes. The man was speaking with Otiz. Nothing important. Marco was just making small talk, and Otiz was doing the same—being polite, answering Marco's questions about his law firm's progress. Ed actually needed to speak to both of them, but he chose to start with Marco first.Ed just needed to gesture with his chin, and Otiz understood immediately. He excused himself, making up a reason, and left Marco alone."I need to talk to you," Ed said as he approached."Oh? What is it?" Marco immediately followed Ed, moving to the quiet side yard. The other guests filled the living room."I want you to handle the shipment to Ecuador and Brazil next week."Marco looked as if he had choked. This was incredibly surprising. Ed had never let him touch the South American market before. Ed had always handled it himself. Marco had only been managing North A
"Mommy, I want to try! You be Elena, and I'll be Elisa."AJ reached out his hand, asking for the milk bottle from Ruby. He wanted to try feeding the babies—and he chose Elisa.Usually, Tita was around to help Ruby, but today Tita was busy, so Ruby had been on her own since earlier."You can, but please be careful, okay? Don’t let her choke, and don’t squeeze." Ruby guided AJ's hand to hold the bottle filled with pre-warmed breast milk, helping him apply just the right pressure so it wouldn't press too hard against Elisa's lips."Wow! Look, Mommy! She's drinking!" AJ exclaimed happily, eyes sparkling with joy. This was the first time he was directly involved—doing something for his little sister. AJ usually watched, but at first he was afraid to hold the babies. He would look in awe but wouldn’t dare touch them.“See? It’s not a big deal, right? You don’t have to be scared anymore.”&l
From their disheveled appearance, it was clear that Liz and Asher had either just rushed out of a room or possibly run over here. One thing was certain: as soon as they heard the news about Ruby, they had hurried over."Where? Ruby... You're pale. Why... It shouldn't be happening now."Just like Lori, Liz was out of breath as she approached Ruby, panicking. The news had shocked everyone. Liz had already planned to stay in Puerto Vallarta next week to be there for Ruby when she gave birth.Of course, Liz no longer lived at Ed’s house. She had managed to buy her own apartment.“I’m fine, and they’re fine too. But the nurse hasn’t brought them here yet. Calm down… breathe.”Ruby was already able to speak clearly and now had to calm Liz down. She was the one lying down, barely conscious, yet had to reassure everyone else."Are you really okay? No problems? Any complications?" Liz touched Ruby’s bo
