The tug on Ruby's arm made her flinch in fear. The man was clearly not affectionate towards her, as evidenced by the cold stare and rough grip on the woman's arm that made her hiss.

"What, are you trying to escape?!" Eduardo snapped as he tugged on Ruby's body, nearly causing her to stumble. There was no warmth in his assistance at all.

"Don't be rough, Ed," the pastor tried to calm, but the warning merely passed by.

"How dare you try to run away!" Eduardo dragged Ruby inside, while Ruby trembled in fear. Eduardo was intimidating, not just because of his face but also because of his demeanor. Ruby was more afraid of his nature than of his current appearance.

"I'm not running. I just..." Ruby tried to defend herself, but it was futile. Eduardo didn't want to hear any words coming out of her mouth. The impulsive decision Ruby made earlier is now endangering her safety.

Eduardo continued to drag Ruby, who stumbled because of her flowing dress, into the living room, passing by several people who were chatting and drinking.

Ruby felt ashamed as she caught those people's gazes, especially with her disheveled appearance from the fall. It seemed none of them dared to question Eduardo's actions. They merely watched as Eduardo led Ruby up to his private room.

"You're just like your father, trying to betray me when I'm not looking!" Eduardo growled, tossing Ruby's slender body effortlessly onto the bed.

"No. I... I just got lost, Eduardo," Ruby sobbed. It wasn't just his angry face; it was Eduardo's voice, slicing through, that made her even more afraid.

"You're crying? You can still cry, it seems," Eduardo laughed mockingly.

"Save those disgusting tears for someone else!"

Ruby flinched as she felt Eduardo's grip on her chin, forcing her to look up. His green eyes looked at her so coldly, tainted with red in the whites. The party's abundance of beer appeared to have slightly intoxicated Eduardo. Ruby could smell the alcohol on his breath.

Ruby's trembling body became more apparent. Even when Eduardo was sober, he wasn't gentle, let alone when he was drunk.

"I won't let you go, even if you beg. You have to pay for all your father's sins!" Eduardo shook Ruby's shoulders.

Ruby wanted to say that it had nothing to do with her, but this was the core reason Esli paid her. Ruby now understood the true motive. Esli wanted to save Liz by sacrificing herself. A stranger girl who happened to look like his daughter, to deceive the man who hated him. There was no accident or coma. Esli's deception was just enough to entice him.

"After this, forget your old life. Your father decided you'd be a sacrifice, so it's up to me what to do with you, and you have to accept it!"

The absolute ownership he expressed made Ruby feel even colder. The freedom to do anything to her body could mean harm.

"Open up!" Eduardo had let go of Ruby and stood about a meter away from her.

Ruby didn't move except to tremble. She didn't know what to do—too scared.

"Open your dress! I need to see how worthy you are to be a wife who can fulfill my desires." Ed shouted while pointing at Ruby's dress.

Ruby knew she had sold herself for fifty million pesos. But she never imagined she would experience something as miserable as this. She was not only terrified for her life, but she was also facing humiliation. But all the regrets were too late; she couldn't retreat or escape.

She might die at Eduardo's hands before she can leave the house, and even after leaving, Esli will kill her mother.

"You're quite the actress. You look like you're suffering. I almost believed those tears. Is it your father who's instructing you like this?" Ed taunted while removing his jacket and belt.

Ruby indeed started crying again, and for Eduardo, those tears were worthless. They didn't soften him, let alone evoke any pity. Such was the extent of his hatred for Esli and his family.

"I...I'll open it." Ruby didn't know what Eduardo would do with the belt in his hand, but she didn't want her situation to get any worse.

"Fifty million pesos... Mama..." Ruby murmured very softly, choosing those two words as her resolution to lower the sleeveless white dress. She had to endure to get what Esli promised her.

Ruby could feel the cold AC hitting her exposed back as she lowered the white wedding dress sleeve. For Ruby, the boutique had prepared white lingerie with a sheer design. A type of clothing that only half-heartedly fulfilled its function because many parts of her skin were visible, even when worn.

"Not bad so far. I didn't lose too much. Keep going."

There was no yelling. Ed's voice became deeper. His hands opened the jacket and the buttons on his shirt, and his eyes never left Ruby's body in front of him.

Ruby knew that tranquility wouldn't last long. If Ruby stopped, he would yell again and become intimidating.

With trembling hands, Ruby pulled the string that tied the front of the white lingerie, exposing her front body as well as her arms and shoulders as the lingerie fell off. There was still another piece of cloth attached, but Ruby's curves and smoothness of skin were more noticeable.

"So far, so good. You've done well," Eduardo said, his tone surprisingly softer.

"What is that!?"A man's loud voice jolted Ruby awake, still feeling tired after a long night that left her sore down below. As Ruby opened her eyes, she was startled to see her husband towering beside the bed, looking at her with furrowed brows.Ruby forced her head to turn as her brown eyes met Eduardo's accusing finger. At that moment, Ruby saw the dark red stain tarnishing the bedcover where they had 'wrestled' all night."Bloody." Ruby answered in a murmur, unsure if her response was correct. The stain was clearly blood; there was no need to ask. Ruby suspected the question was just a trap."I know it's blood! But why are you bleeding?! You're not menstruating, are you?!" Eduardo's shout grew louder. Ruby naturally flinched, her face slowly reddening—embarrassed. She knew exactly where the blood came from, and Eduardo should too. That thought made Ruby fall silent. "Who do you think I slept with? I was drunk, but I can still distinguish faces!" Eduardo snapped. He was annoyed because Javier was arguing in an absurd manner. Eduardo knew he was drunk last night, but it was impossible to mistake the woman."How could it be? It's Liz. I understand very well what her social circle is like. She was lucky to escape my clutches... before," Javier added, because his current social circle was certainly different."I often met her in hotels, with different men each time. Wait! I remember now!" Javier furrowed his brow, then folded his index finger to point to the first count."I first met her in Cancun, then in Chilangolandia. The last time I met her was at the Playa del Carmen resort. She was wearing a bikini and holding hands on the beach—she was eighteen at the time." Javier presented a series of pieces of evidence that made it hard for him to believe that Lizeth Ramos was still a virgin."She was also rumored to be close to one of the actors, right? I

Ruby could walk better now. She was still feeling pain between her legs, but it was no longer torturous."One moment." Ruby heard a knock on her room's door earlier and forced herself to walk.Ruby was grateful she had tidied herself up. After crying her heart out earlier, Ruby soaked for quite some time in the luxurious bathtub in her room. Her appearance was decent now, though her hair was still half wet. Ruby hoped her swollen eyes wouldn't be too obvious."Senora* Rosas, you're awake and looking beautiful."Ruby heard the friendly and gentle greeting when she opened the door. Ruby clearly didn't know who it was. Everyone she saw at the wedding yesterday was just a passing glance—both guests and house dwellers."I am, Tita. A servant. I take care of food and household needs." Tita extended her hand while bowing. Her skin was dark, while her body was thin but sturdy. She neatly braided her hair into two, mingling it with gray."Ru... Liz!" Ruby, nervously making a mistake, even shri

"Allow me to introduce myself, Pedro. I also live here. I don't know if you remember, but I helped when you passed out yesterday."The man extended his hand. Ruby reluctantly accepted it. She didn't want to be impolite to one of the residents of the house. And, of course, Ruby didn't remember the man helping her. After seeing Eduardo's face, she completely passed out."Hello." Ruby nodded slowly, glancing down the hallway. She was hoping Tita would return soon. She didn't want to be alone with the man."I thought your marriage wouldn't happen. But finally, this house could be livelier. A new beautiful face makes a real difference."Pedro praised her, but Ruby was not happy to hear it. The kind of beautiful praise he gave was different from what she heard from Tita earlier. Ruby often heard this type of praise when she worked at a restaurant. As a restaurant server, Ruby certainly encountered sleazy customers, and it made her sick."You're quiet, it seems." Pedro hoped for a response f

"Senora Mía!" Tita exclaimed in surprise, looking at her hard work gone to waste. The woman named Mía didn't care, though. She continued to stare at Ruby with sharp eyes. Ruby didn't know who she was, but she could feel the woman's hatred towards her, just like Eduardo's. Her eyes were filled with resentment."Who told you you could feed her?!" Mía snapped at Tita, but her gaze remained fixed on Ruby. So Ruby decided to speak up, at least to defend Tita."Sorry, I didn't mean to...""When breakfast time comes and you don't show up, that means I assume you don't want to eat! Don't you dare ask for a special breakfast just for yourself!" Mía cut off Ruby's explanation. She didn't want to hear any explanation from the start."Senora, I was just trying to—"With a tongue click, even Tita's defense crumbled."I didn't ask for your input! Get to work, and clean that up!" Mía pointed to the mess on the floor, then her finger shifted to Ruby."Hear this, Lizeth Ramos! You may be married to Ed

"Hello?"Ruby answered cautiously. The old man seemed friendly and weak at first, but it was a deception. Ruby won't forget the slap the man gave her yesterday."You haven't messed up, have you?" Ruby could hear Esli's question, tinged with annoyance.Ruby's fear diminished considerably in an instant. She came to the realisation that the annoyance amounted to nothing but empty threats. She didn't need to be afraid; Esli couldn't touch her right now. If it was just scolding, Ruby could handle it."Messed up in what way?" Ruby asked a bit more boldly.Ruby had lost the respect she had shown yesterday, viewing Esli as a man grieving over his child's accident-induced coma. Esli was nothing more than a scammer taking advantage of her."Just don't screw things up!" Esli sounded increasingly angry."I'm not messing up," Ruby said, trying to keep him from getting angrier.Ruby recalled that her mother remained with Esli. If she knew Esli's true face as a scammer, Ruby wouldn't let Esli take

A sudden vacation always sounded enjoyable."Just make sure you don't run into anyone who knows you," Esli added."Huh? Why?" Liz pouted, stomping her foot. What's the point of going on vacation if she can't be with her friends?"Just go, and don't contact anyone from here! I'll be watching you!" Esli didn't listen to any protests and instructed more firmly."But...""LEAVE NOW!"Liz flinched and looked at her father with reddened eyes. It was the first time she heard her father raise his voice. Some were carrying firearms; others were wielding clubs. However, as they entered, everyone froze. No one came to greet them. The house was supposed to be full of guards, which was why they had come in numbers—ready for a confrontation. In reality, what greeted them was silence. He had already been emotional when Ed stood beside him at the altar, and it got worse when he saw Lori walking down the aisle, escorted by flowers. It was all too beautiful and dazzling for his eyes.“Sorry,” Otiz stammered, wiping the remaining tears from his face.“What are you apologizing for? At a wedding, shedding tears is not considered inappropriate. You're just too happy. No one will blame you.” Ed gently patted Otiz’s shoulder and then turned his gaze forward.Of course, Lori was the focus of the event.
