Chapter One hundred and Twenty Two

Marc's POV

"We need more men at the eastern section" one of the guards said to me

"And why is that?" I asked him

"The people feel insecure, and unsafe. It gives them the impression that you must have abandoned them" the guard said again to me.

Abandoned them? That was so untrue of my leadership. Perhaps I must have forgotten about the others and focused only on the elite, and this was probably what could have caused a deviation in the hearts of the people away from me. I needed to set things right, and make sure that the people understood my greatest concern for their safety.

I stand at the window, my heart heavy with sorrow. The sun is sinking below the horizon, but it does little to lift my spirits. All I can think of is Harlow, the woman I love with all my being. But she is gone, her memories lost to some cruel twist of fate.

I can't even look at her picture without feeling the pain of her absence. It feels as if a part of me has been torn away, leaving a gaping hole in my chest.
