Kia's POV

"The death of my parents thought me the never trust anyone."

_especially another pack. I hope they are proud of me now, I hope they are happy that I followed all the advise that was given to me._

"Which is an even more reason why I am standing by you," his line of words stunning me. Blinking severally and shutting my slightly ajar mouth.

"What do you mean?".I narrowed. My eyes searching for answers.

"I watched you grow Kia," he breathed, his shoulders falling lightly, "I was practically best nfrieds with your father" he began. My mind flashed back to the several paintings of my dad I had saved. Elder Jay was in almost every picture and I thought maybe he was only try to support the Alpha. So he was best friends with my dad?.

"Then why aren't you his beta?" I blurted out despite knowing that the system doesn't quite work that way.

"Because," he shrugged, " I did not want to be one. I prefer the semi peaceful life I am living."
