Chapter one hundred and twenty nine

Lucas’s POV

I patrolled the night as I thought of the pack I had left behind.

I wondered how they were doing without me. It had been a long time since I had been in this palace and patrolled the night.

I missed doing it.

I was in the garden when an elder whom I recognized to be Fiona’s father showed up to join me.

“Hey beta,” he said to me as I nodded to him. “What are you doing so late out here?”

“Patrolling the palace to make sure it’s safe here. I don’t want to neglect my duty as a beta and see rogues coming in to kill the alpha or its inhabitants. I would lose it.”

He smiled. “I doubt the rogues would attack tonight or any other night seeing as the guards are protecting this entire space. But if you still think it’s a good idea to defend the place then go ahead. I support whatever decision you take.”

“Why are you still here anyway?” I asked wondering what the man wanted anyway. He should be home by now but he was still here.
