Talia's POV

"Did you just say that to Bran in front of everyone?" Serena, my only friend in the Pack, asks, speaking with a voice that combines unbelief and amusement. She's leaning against a tree, with crossed arms and her brows raised.

Nodding, I become aware of how exhausted I feel after what just happened. "I had to, Serena. He left me no choice." My heart is still beating from the encounter.

"I can't believe you're the same girl who once hid in the kitchen to avoid talking to the butcher's son. Now you're out here, taking on the Alpha?" Serena shakes her head and whistles.

I chuckle, though it sounds more like a sigh. "I guess desperate times call for desperate measures," I don't even know what I'm doing anymore, maybe he wasn't going to reject me? I didn't allow him to speak before I cut him off. But I was sure I heard him say he wouldn't take an oversized mate like me. So he was going to reject me.

Serena grins and moves closer to me. "Well, the Moon Goddess must've been bored out of her mind to pair you with Bran." She jokes, nudging me gently.

I can't help but smile, even though my heart feels like it's about to explode from pain. "Maybe she's just testing how much I can take before completely losing it. Every time I pray to the Goddess for an understanding mate, someone who will love me for who I am? And the Moon Goddess dare pair me with Alpha Bran? This is weird."

Serena smiles, and she wraps an arm around my shoulders. "Or maybe she knows you're stronger than you think."

Serena is good at making me feel good and here she is at it again. She and my family are the only people who give me the care and comfort I need. Being wolfless is nothing I want to be, but what can I do when the Moon Goddess decides to make me this way? I lean into her, "I don't feel strong, Serena. I feel like my life is ending even before it starts, and here I am, doing nothing to stop all these from happening."

"It's not a bad thing to feel that way, Talia. I don't expect you to have it all figured out right now. Bran's an idiot if he can't see how amazing you are."

I pressed my lips together to hold back tears. "But what if he's right? What if I'm not good enough?" I question.

"Don't you dare think like that? You're more than enough, Talia. You're kind and smart, and you have a heart bigger than this pack. If Bran can't see that, it's his loss," she answers.

"You always know how to make me feel better," I state, smiling weakly.

She grins, releasing me and resting back against the tree. "It's my job as your best friend. Besides, I can't have you moping around all the time. It's bad for my reputation."

I laugh, the sound shaky but genuine. "Your reputation? I'm the one who's been humiliated tonight and not you. So how does that affect your reputation."

"Details, details. You're still the most interesting thing around here in ages." Serena shrugs.

I sigh, I feel a little bit relieved now, all thanks to Selena. "I just don't know what to do to the bond pull. But I'm sure I can't go back to him after what he said."

Serena's expression turns serious, and she looks at me. "Then don't. You don't owe him anything, Talia. If he wants to reject the bond, let him. But you don't have to let that define you. You're more than just someone's mate. You're you."

My thoughts are a mess, "I just... I don't know how to move on from this."

Serena's quiet for a moment, her gaze thoughtful. "You don't have to figure it out right now. You need to take things one step at a time."

I nod slowly, feeling the truth in her words. "Yeah, you're right."

"Of course I'm right. When have I ever been wrong?" Serena grins

I laugh, and the sound feels a little freer this time. "Well, there was that time you swore eating a white lemon would make your hair grow faster."

Serena cringes, playfully shoving me. "Okay, so maybe I've been wrong once or twice. But this time, I'm right."

We both fall silent for some seconds, Bran's rejection is still on my mind, but it's different now, less suffocating, more bearable. I'm relieved to have Serena by my side and to know I'm not facing this alone.

Serena looks at me, her expression turning serious again. "You're going to be okay, Talia. We'll figure this out together."

I nod, a small smile playing on my lips. "Thanks, Serena. What would I have done without you."

She winks her playful demeanour back in full force. "You'd probably end up eating lemons to grow your hair."

I laugh so loudly that the sound echoes through the quiet night. It feels good though.

But the reality of my situation refuses to fade with my laughter. I am still mated to Alpha Bran and he has rejected the bond.

Serena notices the shift in my mood because she tilts her head, watching me closely. "You're thinking about him again, aren't you?"

I sigh, nodding. "I can't help but feel embarrassed. Why would the Goddess give me such a mate? It's like he's still here, even though he's not.",

"Do you think he's feeling it, too?" Serena asks after being silent for some time.

I hesitate because I'm not sure how to respond. "I don't know. But even if he is, does it change anything?"

She nods slowly, her expression thoughtful. "Maybe not. But it doesn't mean you must give up on yourself.",

I look at her, the weight of her words sinking in. "You're right."

Serena grins, nudging me playfully. "Of course I am. Now, come on. Let's get out of here before someone comes looking for us."

Talia's POV The night is creeping in, and I'm completely worn out. I've been walking all day, and the second day is about to wrap up. I keep feeling hungry, but the only thing I can find is some tart fruit to snack on. I'm seriously considering heading back home, just to put up with the teasing and everything. I’ll eat well, plus I’ve got a comfy bed waiting for me back home.I haven't seen a single soul since I have been walking. I don't see any towns, clear areas, or even a shabby structure to find some shelter and catch my breath. The woods are getting dangerous as I walk. I was starting to lose it, but there was no turning back; I had to keep moving forward. My stomach keeps growling, and I look all over for something to eat but only find some pine nuts. What options do I have? I eat hungrily and settle under a tree for the night.Morning came in no time, and I continued my journey. Walking a few feet forward, I see a clearing in front. Have I made the right decision?Alpha Axton's relaxed stance vanishes and he immediately replaces it with a commanding tone. "What is it?""There's an incident at the border." The guard's voice is urgent. "You're needed immediately."Alpha Axton turns to face me, and I can already see the concern in his eyes; I nod permissively, and, with a nod, too, he turns on his heels and strides off, his cloak blowing behind him. I watch him disappear into the night, questions ringing in my head. An incident and what kind? But before my thoughts can spiral too far, Luna appears at my side, bumping her shoulder against mine and rolling her eyes. Talia's POV Axton is gazing at me steadily, and even at that, I still can't read him; something tells me whatever he's planning to say is not going to hurt me, but how can I even listen to that when the only words I have ever heard from Alpha's like him are words of rejection. My head pounds with the expectations of what he is about to say, but I remain calm. Que sera sera. The festival hums around laughter, music, and distant clatter of plates- but at this moment, it feels like it's just the two of us, standing at the edge of something that neither of us can quite define."I see potential in you, Talia," he says finally. "You belong here more than you think. Do you want to stay here with us?"I let out a slow breath. "I don't know." It's the most honest answer I can give. The wolves here are kind, but I still can't bring myself to the conclusion. Not until I'm convinced that I will be fine here. I expect him to push, to convince me that I should stay, but instead, he only nods, as

  • My Alpha Mate Rejected Me: He Says I'm A Misfit    Communal Meal (2)

Talia's POV The festival is nothing short of magical. Lanterns glow softly, casting golden light over the town square. Long wooden tables are set up, covered in platters of food so delicious that my stomach growls just looking at them. Music drifts through the air, played by a group of werewolves with makeshift instruments, their laughter and voices filling the night.People dance, their movements are uncoordinated but full of joy. No one seems to care about looking perfect. There's freedom in that, a kind of wild happiness. Then comes the communal meal.I sit at a table surrounded by my new friends. Luna, Jasper, Finn, and even Greta-who I have since learned are not as terrifying as she looks (though still slightly terrifying). The food is delicious, but my appetite dwindles one by one, and people start sharing their stories."I was born the runt of my litter," an older werewolf named Rowan says, his deep voice carrying across the table. "Too weak to shift. My pack saw me as useless

Talia's POVThe morning air is crisp, carrying the scent of the earth and flowers as I step out of my small home. The traces of dawn can still be seen in the sky, painted in shades of pink and gold. I stretch my arms, feeling a slight ache from yesterday's activities, Jasper, Luna, and Finn getting covered in purple smoke and then surviving Greta's terrifying glare. For the first time in a long time, I don't feel like an outsider. I feel like I truly belong here, but I still have to be careful in making my decisions. I don't want to end up in a Pack just like Starlight.A knock at the door startles me from my thoughts."Coming!" I call, moving towards it.When I open the door, Luna stands with her calm smile in place. Behind her, Jasper rests on the frame, arms crossed over his chest. Finn is perched on Jasper's shoulders, grinning."Talia, we've come to kidnap you," Luna announces causing me to blink repeatedly. "Excuse me?""She means we have something important to tell you." Talia's POV For several minutes I have tried dusting off this weird purple smoke Jasper caused, but they won't go. "Can't you do something, Jasper? Are you just going to stand there watching me go around looking like this?" I rant, but to be fair-Jasper has tried, but the smoke won't budge."Talia, you know you look good in purple." Luna teases, casting me a smiley, almost laughing look."Uhm..uhm, let me try again." Jasper rummages his bag one more time. "I got it yeah," he exclaims, bringing out a fish-like small little container."Have this, Talia; it's a scientific soap; it will wipe the smoke off your body and return your normal colour." "Uhmm, Jasper, are you sure Talia is not going to turn pink completely after bathing with this soap of yours?" Luna questions scratching the back of her head. Jasper was about to talk when faint footsteps rummaged through the clearing towards our direction. Also, the voice of someone, probably a young Pup, talking from a distance. "Hold on Jas

Talia's POV I stand swiftly as the footsteps are approaching, the sound louder now as if the person is coming closer. I glance around and find a stray log, big and thick enough to break someone's head in case they're enemies. I don't recollect speaking to anyone except Alpha Axton, his guards, driver and some of his maids. Maybe it's one of them though. I'm tempted to let my guard down, but I brace again, holding the log with my two hands on high alert in case it's not any of them. "Aaarrrrr!!!" We both are screaming, I close my eyes, lifting the log so high that it falls back behind me due to its heaviness. I open my eyes slowly to meet the gaze of a pretty lady; she should be in her mid-twenties like me. Her cute eyes widen in fear and her trembling hand is holding a beautiful flower."Hi..." Did he think I'm going to allow him to show up here and destroy everything I've worked hard for? For some weeks now, he has been on my tail, telling me lies in the name of custom, "rouges can't be born outside their territory", and who cares about that fucking custom? I have to make him leave before Bran comes out. That might arouse suspicions in him, and I wouldn't want that. "Leave now!" I shout again, but it seems this is not going to work. "Do you think I'll leave without you going with me? You don't belong here; you belong to us...well, till that pup comes to this world." Bran's POV "Alpha, we should do something about this issue now and right here. We can't cross our fingers and watch our pups die just like that." A council member is finally speaking after several seconds of murmuring between them. I watch in silence, not because I'm weak or because I don't know what to say, but because I can't seem to figure out where all these are coming from."We've always respected you and your decisions since you were chosen to be our Alpha, but your silence in this issue is painting another picture." His gaze returns to the other council members like he is asking for their permission to proceed, and they nod, giving him the go-ahead to speak. "We can't help but think that there's something you have done wrong to bring us this calamity. Selene is angry at us for something done wrong. If not, why would our sacrifices not have been accepted by the moon goddess after a series of attempts, and she keeps on striking us with death and rogue attacks?" I look into spac
