Chapter 4: Desperate

Being desperate wasn't in my vocabulary but thinking about losing the man I love and losing the father of my child, I am willing to be one. I can sacrifice everything if it means bringing my family back. I won't let anyone ruin the family I cared about. I will not hesitate to do everything I could just to stop those who dared to ruin the family I built.

Today, I woke up so early despite the pain I went through last night. Alpha James didn't throw me away from his Mansion but we're no longer living in the same room. Katie was with him all night and thinking about them made me hurt so badly.

“What's your plan now?”

I was walking the hall when my wolf, Lilian, spoke up. I let out a deep sigh and wiped the tears from my eyes as it started streaming down again.

“I don't know, Lilian…” I uttered, almost breaking again. “I don't know what else to do, but let's see.”

I heard my wolf let out a sigh at the back of my head. She didn't say anything because she already knew me. Lilian doesn't want me to be in pain and she made the right decision of not speaking again. I can still feel the same I've got after James rejected me last night.

My plans of not letting him are still there. I will not leave nor let him go, not until I was the one who gave up now. I have to do something in order to get him back. 

Katie. I have to talk to her and beg her to reject James, so I would have my husband back to me. I don't care if I'm being selfish. It's my rights and my child's that I fight for.

“Katie.” I called her name.

Katie was in the living room, currently served by the maids. She's living like a princess and that made my brows arched. Katie tells the maids to leave us alone and now she's staring at me full of disgust.

“What's the disgusting woman still doing in here?” 

I looked at her in my pleading eyes. I don't care anymore if Katie will make fun of me. It won't stop me from begging her to let go of James.

“Please, I need you to let him go. You have to leave him, Katie. I am his real wife and you can't change that.” I uttered.

Katie looked at me, her eyes filled with empathy but that changed when she laughed. I clenched my fists, calming myself after seeing her laugh.

“You're really ridiculous, Emerald. I can't believe you are this desperate to force a man to stay,” she shook her head. “Isn't it obvious? Your husband chose me because I am his mate and you are so desperate to take what's already mine.”

I kneel in front of Katie with tears falling from my eyes. I can do everything just for James. Katie will not have him. I will not let that happen. 

“I am pregnant. He's the father of my child and you can't take him away from our lives. Please understand. You are a woman, too, and I'm expecting you to understand the situation.” 

I can no longer stop myself from telling this girl about the child that I was carrying as I hope that she will listen to me. I was expecting that Katie has a kind-hearted heart but then I am mistaken. 

Katie grabbed my hair, forcing me to look at her. I can't believe she will do this. Katie changes abruptly and I know why. Alpha James is not here. She was showing me what she really is.

“Being the Alpha's chosen mate was already a jackpot to me. I have sacrificed a lot just to be near him. Living on the Alpha King's side, I can have what I want. I can live the life I've been dreaming of since then and then you will ask me to leave him?”

My mouth agape. I stared at her and her words made me realize one thing.

“You are just using him? You don't love him, don't you?” I asked between my gritted teeth.

Katie let me go and she began bursting out with laughter. I could feel my blood boil when I saw that reaction. 

Alpha James was mistaken for his mate. Katie was only using him for her personal reason and now I have evidence to convince James that Katie was an impostor.

“You're right, Emerald. I am just using your husband and I can't believe he listened to me so easily. Don't worry, I will still love him. I will learn to love him during our time as a couple.”

My fists were still clenched as I stood up from kneeling. I don't have to beg Katie because I already have evidence to push her away from our lives. 

“I will tell James about it. You will be thrown out in here once I told him that you are using him. I will make sure of that!”

I turned away to leave but before that, Katie had mentioned something to me again.

“You can't do that. He's already mine. I'm now pregnant with his child. If there's someone who will be thrown out here… It's you.”

I gritted my teeth from what Katie had told me. My eyes felt darkened as my blood started boiling onto Katie. I felt hurt from what she said and I can't accept it. Having no control of myself anymore, I shifted into Lilian and without remorse, I attacked Katie. 

It was an accident that I scratched her face with my long claws. I was driven by my anger and once I realized what I did, I shifted back. 

“I…I am so sorry…”

Just before I could reach Katie's direction, Alpha James arrived and he found out what happened. Katie, being a good artist, pretended to be the victim.

“She wants to kill me, James. She… She wants to kill our child!” 

I stepped back when I heard Katie's lies. James stared at me, his face already dark as if he wanted to kill me.

“You're really that desperate and that you're ready to kill my child and my mate, Emerald!?” he yelled at me. 

I could feel my heart pounding so fast, my tears continued streaming down my face. The look on James' face startled me so badly and I didn't know what to do.

“It was an accident, James. Katie—”

“You better leave the pack now, Emerald!” James yelled at me.

“James…” I tried to beg him, but he's about to shift into his wolf form, making me step back.

“I said leave before I can kill you!” 

And that's it. Alpha James threw me out because of his mate's lies after everything I did to him, but I won't let Katie ruin me.

“You can't do that because I'm pregnant, James.”

And I can't believe what James did to me next after I told him my pregnancy.
